Taking a snapshot

Is there a way in iMovie '08 or iMovie HD to create a photo or snapshot from video footage that I have?

Is there a way, other than taking a screenshot, of getting iM8 to Share a frame...?
As gorgous as the images look, especially in HiDef, it's disappointing not to be able to take advantage, if nothing else to create titles/chapters, etc.
I suppose you could open the clip in QT, and do it that way, but hopefully
there is an as yet undiscovered way to do from within iM8 itself?

  • Things I should know before taking a snapshot?

I have a client that is running exchange 2010 as a VM on hyper-v 2008. Exchange server has not been updated for almost 9 months now. Although exchange server and exchange is being backed up daily it scares me to have to install so many updates knowing
that something could go wrong. Btw, all updates pertain to the OS and non to exchange.
To be on the safe side, I was thinking of creating a snapshot with hyper-v, install the updates, and then delete the snapshot (if all went well). I’ve used this method before with other servers, but not with exchange. Do you think this is a good idea? What
things should I know before taking a snapshot? If I need to revert back, does the database need to be restored?
    Thanks,
    Alex

Some hypervisors include features for taking snapshots of virtual machines. Virtual machine snapshots capture the state of a virtual machine while it's running. This feature enables you to take multiple snapshots of a virtual machine and then revert the
virtual machine to any of the previous states by applying a snapshot to the virtual machine. However, virtual machine snapshots aren't application aware, and using them can have unintended and unexpected consequences for a server application that maintains
state data, such as Exchange. As a result, making virtual machine snapshots of an Exchange guest virtual machine isn't supported.

  • Why does my PDF appear blurry after taking a snapshot?

I need some assistance. I'm working with a client who is trying to do email blasts. They create a flyer in Publisher (probably switching to Acrobat exclusively soon), and then import it into Acrobat or Reader and take a snapshot of it. They then paste it into Outlook and it looks great before they actually send the email. Once the email is sent, it's blurry and pixelated.
Here's what we have to work with on their computers:
    Outlook 2010
    Acrobat X Standard
    Publisher 2010
Any advice would be greaty appreciated!

There's some weird stuff going on here.
    - 'Switching to Acrobat exclusively soon' - what does this mean, Acrobat isn't a replacement for Publisher or any kind of design tool?
    - 'Imported to Acrobat' - how - Acrobat doesn't actually have a function called Import?
    - 'Pasted into Outlook' - how, Acrobat can't Copy a PDF to the clipboard?
It may be that they are doing things that are not at all right, or it may just be the way they are described...
In any case, Acrobat and PDF _cannot_ be used to make stuff for seeing visibly in an email...

  • Taking memory snapshot freezes browser

    Vista / Flash 10
When running the flash profiler on my app (running in any browser), if I take a memory snapshot, sometimes my whole browser locks up.
    The profiler keeps runnng.
Sometimes the app unlocks about 2-3 minutes later.  In the interim, I am prompted many times that my browser has become unresponsive.
Is there something I am doing wrong?
    Thanks

I believe you're running into http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-17854. It was fixed after Beta 1. I can tell you that the experience is slightly better, but memory snapshots still take some time.

  • Taking Video "snapshots" on my Mac

Hello, I was looking around for an answer, but was uncertain as to how I should word the question and Didn't find any posts pertaining. So I will try my best to ask what I mean.
Is it possible to record video of my computer activity. In other words, like I wanted to make a tutorial for someone, I can start record and it shows everything on my screen like I were showing someone in person pointing to my screen etc. I want it to record the cursor, opening apps, closing, what ever it is.
Is this possible on Leopard? I know it was possible on my old mac through an application called SnapzProX. I was wondering if Leopard came with such an aplication, and if not, can you point me into a direction of downloadable one (free)?
    Thank you.

    Here is a nice list;

  • Taking a snapshot/running photobooth

This is a two part question.
    1. How to tell automator to take a still picture using the isight camera.
    2. Something analogous to the "set value of variable" action in leopard
    Thanks

You might be able to do something with the java.awt.Robot class to create a screen capture.
I'm guessing that your Applet would need to be signed in order for it to be allowed to view the user's desktop, though.
You might need some supporting JavaScript to figure out where the other Applet it on the screen.
    Hope this helps.

  • "Sounds" like someone is taking a snapshot of g5 without my permission

    Hi There,
I'm concerned I'm being hacked because from time to time I hear the sound of a camera lens shutter.
Is there a way of detecting if there has been activity?
Any advice or help will be much appreciated.
    Kindest regards

Sorry, Console is in Applications>Utilities, run that and watch the System & Console Logs around the time of the click.
But if you don't have an iSight or Camera hooked up, then the Sound is likely a Hard drive going bad, or a Fan, or...
If you wish to check further on the Hacking possibility, (doesn't sound like it to me, but), might look into this...

  • I am trying to print a snapshot taken from a PDF multiple times on one page.

Reader Will not print multiple copies of a snapshot on one page. I read the help files for Acrobat itself and all it said was take the snapshot and print it. Does anyone know if Acrobat can print multiple copies of the snapshot on one page?
From some reading in another forum page it looks like Acrobat can do it by saving the snapshot repeatedly with different names and the printing all of them at once. I really hate that workaround as I need to do this often.
    Message was edited by: duckles10

I tried to do it using Reader. I have a one page PDF document with a UPS shipping label on one side and a special box label with a barcode on the other. This is designed to print on a standard 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. There are many times when I need to be able to print the box labels more than once. At home, I do it by taking a snapshot of the box label and printing it to a Label printer as many times as I need it. The distributor who also ships items for me only has a full page printer but he can print 4 on a page labels on UPS provided stock. Reader won’t print a snapshot multiple times, the option is grayed out. What I wanted to know is if Acrobat itself can print that snapshot multiple times. I don’t think it can without being able to cut and save that PDF multiple times as separate files. That would be a slow and cumbersome operation. If it would take a snapshot or a single cut and save and print that PDF 4 times on a page it would be a reason to spend the money to buy the program because we need to perform this operation OVER and OVER on a regular basis. On some shipments we might need to print 12 or more extra box labels. We tape smaller boxes together for one UPS label and need to make sure EACH box gets a separate label. Otherwise they sometimes get lost on the other end.
Doing the save 4 separate PDFs process we might actually need TWO copies of Acrobat unless reader can print 4 on a page if it has 4 PDF’s to work from. I have not yet found a good way to save those snapshots from reader. I have tried since I found that it was possible to cut and save them in other formats but not PDF’s as reader can’t save them. The quality of the saved items in other formats is not acceptable. I recently discovered that Microsoft publisher which I have can save a document as a PDF. I’m going to see if I can import to that program next.

  • Take a snapshot of the user at login

I just read the Apple Pro Tip about adding tasks to your login (start-up) items. It gave me the idea of automatically taking a snapshot of the user when logging in. A little searching came up with an applicagtion called iSightCapture at ScriptBuilders: http://scriptbuilders.net/files/isightcapture1.1.html
    and some tips by "Neoporcupine"
    http://neoporcupine.blogspot.com/2006/06/automating-isight.html
    The steps are:
    1) Create a SNAPME folder in Applications and add the iSightCapture executible to it
    2) Create a LOGIN_PICS folder in <Home>/Pictures
    3) Start Scrip Editor and paste the following code
    tell application "Terminal"
    do shell script "/Applications/snapme/isightcapture ${HOME}/Pictures/login_pics/snap.`date '+%y%m%d.%H%M%S'`.jpg"
    delay 4
    close the front window
    end tell
    4) Save it as a runtime script SNAPME.SCRPT in the APPLICATIONS/SNAPME folder
    5) Test it (run the script then look in the LOGIN_PICS folder for the snapshot - the filename is cleverly date and time stamped)
    6) Add the script to your logon items (System Preferences - Accounts)

    Oops
Step 4 should say save it an an application (not a script)

  • Hyper-V Snapshot Issue on Exchange server

    Hyper-v 2008 R2
    I have a 2TB host in which I am running 2 VM's
Exchange was a 900gb Fixed disk VM
    Terminal server 200gb Fixed.
I was working remotely on my iPhone on the Exchange server (I know, don't ask) when I think I accidentally hit the snapshot button inside of Hyperv Manager.
The user called and said the server stopped working and I quickly realized it unexpectedly rebooted and the Address Book service failed to start automatically. I was trying to navigate my way around on my phone and thats when I think I hit the snapshot button.
I didn't realize this until 2 days later when looking inside my VHDS folder that a new AVHD file was created that was 818gb and timestamped exactly when I was working on it remotely.
The original VHD file was dated 2 days earlier and 825gb
The snapshot is NOT showing up in Hyperv Manager at all so I'm not sure what the best next steps are.
I figured I would first take the VM offline and export it to a another location before doing anything to preserve the Exchange server. I am running a Barracuda so I'm not worried about losing any email as that will trap everything.
I noticed in the settings of Hyperv Manager for Exchange that it is using the AVHD file as the primary file.
    Questions
1 - If I take it offline, shouldn't the 2 files merge without me doing anything else? I just wasn't sure since the Snapshot does not show up in SCVMM or Hyperv manager.
2 - I should be able to see this process in SCVMM?
3- How long will it take to merge 800gb? I've seen varying results depending on disk speed, etc.
With an exchange server, this obviously needs to be done delicately without data loss. I assume my statement about the original Exporting of the VM will cover my bases for that?
    Thoughts on how to proceed?
    Thanks!
    Jim

Hyper-V 2008 R2..  This was prior to live merging of snapshots.
What I am guessing is: the snapshot was taken, and in panic the snapshot was deleted.
This means that the VM remains in a snapshotted state, but the snapshot is removed from the GUI.  Deleted snapshots do not show up in the GUI, but remain in place until the background merge process happens / is allowed to happen.
The only way for this snapshot to merge is to power off the VM and wait
    for the merge to happen.
You can verify this by looking for pending merge events in the Hyper-V event logs (  events -> applications and services -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Hyper-V*
if you want to before scheduling your offline time.
Merge speed depends on the amount of change.  You cannot predict it, you can only test to know.
Exporting the VM will keep the disk structure as it is.  Taking a snapshot then exporting the snapshot will create a single VHD (but will take just as long as the merge itself if not longer).
I would check the logs for pending merge events (just to confirm, safety), if they exist then schedule some downtime and power off the VM for the duration of your maintenance window and watch for the merge.
Or, don't bother checking for the merge events and just schedule the downtime and power off the VM and wait.

  • Key figures with Heirarchy in Bexquery not showing up in Snapshot/ Explorer

    Hi,
I am taking a snapshot of a multiprovider in Explorer using T-code RSDDV.
In the related bex query I have a few calculated Key figure which I want to get it into the explorer tab / Key- figures. The idea here is to use these as measures within the Explorer portal.
The problem I am running into is if any of these key figures use Hierarchies I am not able to bring it in but without the hierarchies I have no issue.
    Has someone come across this?
If you need more clarification please feel free to ask.

  • Creating an Azure VM from an existing snapshot, does not automalically create a certificate for remoting

    Hi,
As the title says, I have problems with an Azure VM created from an image I captured of an Azure VM.
For easier deployment of my server I created one, running everything on localhost, such that I could take an image of it and re-deploy this image, by which I will speed up the process of creating a server substantially. However, this process requires me to
be able to remotely control the azure VM, such that I can reconfigure the server to use the new name.
My problem is that the certificate which is usually created automatically for me (under the cloud service on which the VM is created), is not created when I deploy a server on a new cloud service from this snapshot I have made.
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards
    Magnus

    Hi Susie,
Sorry for the late answer, I've had a busy last week. Thank you for answering.
You're quite right. The scenario you describe is exactly what I've done. The reason for doing this is because I am creating a script for installing my company's product on an Azure VM. I am using powershel for this purpose and therefore I need to be able
to remote control it from powershell.
So far I manually transfered everything, but as it is ~70GB of files it takes alot of time. So I tried installing everything on localhost (which works perfect) and taking a snapshot of the machine, but when I spin a new Azure VM up from this image I need
to change a few database references and IIS settings in order to make it work. To do this I was hoping to be able to remotely control the machine with powershell, but since it does not create a certfificate I cannot do this.
Furthermore creating and uploading a certificate will, from my understanding, require me to install it on the server, which in turn will need me to manually do some work anyways, where as the whole idea of automating the process is lost.

  • Materialized view and snapshot

    Hi gurus,
Could you please tell me what is the difference between materialized view and snapshot.
    Regards
    Koustav

A snapshot, is in general terms, a picture, a click of a camera, an image that captures the position/state of something at sometime.
Snapshot in a database can take many points of view.
Materialized view (MV) is an object in Oracle database. It "materializes" a view, by taking a snapshot, of the view when you actually create the MV, and preserve it for future use. It can be refreshed in several available ways.
A view doesn't occupy any space, a MV does.

  • Server backup Faliure Wth failing with snapshot error

    Hi Team ,
One of my VM guest Machine's backup job is getting failed again and again with snapshot error .
When I checked logs I can see Event Warning  " VM disks consolidation failed "  where currently there is no snapshot is available  on this machine.
But When I manually run the snapshot by using by using quiesce Method and then again run backup Job from Symantec , Backup runs fine 7
We are using Symantec Netbackup 7.6.1 and My VM Machine is running on ESXi01 , VM version 9 , Guest OS MS Windo 2008 R2
Any Help Would be really appreciate

    Hi,
    DO THIS FIRST
                 a) Try to do a storage vMotion of that VM and delete the file which are left behind along with the VM folder (if any )
                 b) Take a VMware snapshot and after completion , Go for DELETE ALL --> This will update the snapshot records in the VMX file and snapshot configuration file with latest number which is unique while taking the snapshot as per the process.
    DO THIS AFTERWARDS
               a) STOP and set to manual service for Volume shadow copy ,VMware snapshot provider and Virtual Disk inside the Guest OS. Wait and Check for schedule backup.
