Taking a trip to Ireland

And i have been reading that my iPhone 4 will not work, it will work but just for texting, or it wont work but i can still use my apps...
So i am looking for some clarity - can someone please let me know what the iphone will and wont do in Ireland?

I was just in Ireland a few months ago - you will see no service in the top left corner. but you will be able to use all your game type apps or kindle app - stuff that does not require immediate internet - you will not be able to use the internet on the road, the phone won't work to make calls or text. but it is still very handy because you can use it when hooked up to wifi.
- wifi is very common all around, even in the back country - I was able to hook up all the time - even just pulling up to a local bar or even at the gas station centers.
A very handy thing for us was while we had wifi we would search a web page or search something on maps and then hold down the home and off key and take a screen shot(photo) - that way at anytime I could look at my phone and have that info handy in my photos.
also the GPS does work without wifi, as long as you download the map and area of where you are or are going while you are on wifi - you can track your location(the blue dot) once you are off wifi - you will not be able to search for things or get a closer map other than what you have downloaded while you were on wifi - but again it was very handy for us.

You can usually find an adapter at Radio Shack or a luggage store like Mori's. Airport shops also sometimes carry them. Another way is to buy Apple World Travel Adapter Kit. In my opinion this is a little expensive unless you travel to different countries and need the assortment.

IBook G4 and a trip to Ireland

Hi all. My wife informed me last night we are going to Ireland in September. (She's a witch and is going to some druid gathering there...) So here is my question... is there anything special I need to do to use the electricty there? I've never been to Europe before so I want to be prepared in order to have my iTunes and email available working safely on my iBook.

All you'll need is an adapter for the plug. They're available at any travel store and online at the Apple Store.

Sounds like you have a wonderful trip ahead of you, jroal! We do suggest keeping the data package on the account for two billing cycles. If the package is removed early or not backdated when added it will cause proration.
For example, if you were to take the package off as of the 7th day of the bill cylce you would only have a 14.28 MB allowance. This is why we suggest keeping the plan on there for the whole bill cycle to ensure that you receive the full 100 MB allowance.

IPhone 5s global service not working in Ireland

My daughter is on a school trip to Ireland.
Got her the global plan for her 5s. She can get wifi but the phone is picking up vodaphone but she can't access internet except via wifi. Purchased the global plan for piece of mind and am frustrated . We were told she wouldn't have to "do anything" to activate the international service . Checked her settings and roaming and LTE are on . Help !

How to down load information to take on a trip where there is no internet access?

I am taking a trip where there is no internet access and want to download maps and touring information onto my mini Ipad - how do I do this? Is there a storage app? Have Mini - want to travel....

You can sync PDF files onto your iPad. Just drag them into iTunes - they will then show up as books and you can select which books you want to synch to your iPad.

Map app to mark places for trip?

i am really in need of an application that will let me /mark/ a series of places and retain this data so that i know where this marked place is when i travel.
for instance i am taking a trip to paris and i would really like to put my "places to see" in a map that will let me access this while browsing something like google maps.
does this exist already? is there some site in particular that would be good to ask this?

i started researching online and i have to run some more tests tonight when i get a minute.
i heard there is a "Mac Map Apps" coming with iOS6 and i looked on the Google site and i see that there are a bunch of goodies - including an ability to make a MAP always available even without internet connect but his seems only available on droid. i think this is called Google Maps and i downloaded this to my phone from the site even though a lot of the stuff only seems available on droid?
can you help me with how things stand now for me?
i have a "Maps" app on my iPhone (i think it came with it but not sure) and i now downloaded the "Google Maps" application. both show up as icons on my home screen now.
are both these google products and both do the same thing or are their differences?
also, have you tested either of the products in the links by any chance?
i am tempted to d/l iOS6 as soon as it comes out but since i am going on a trip overseas i may wait until i get back to do this...

Trip to Canada

Hi Guys i'm taking a trip to canada in a few weeks. Called an made sure my service was active for international. They had me go to network and turn off Data Roaming so i wouldnt get charged. Is it true that texting is free aslong as you have unlimited texting. I dont want any suprises lol.

Where did you travel to? I'm not purchasing a data plan. So before i am going over the boarder. Disabling Mobile Data and roaming to be extra sure i dont get charged data / mms. Plan on using texting for updates to the family. Calling only if i need to. Wifi and skype to call when i'm at the hotel.
I also have a company nextel / 8350i that will have data available in canada at no extra cost. But everyone knows how slow IDEN lol.

I have the 3GS iphone and we are taking a trip to London and Norway - will I be able to use my phone there and will I be able to charge it there?
I am worried about outrageous charges, but also worried about not having a phone to use.

Download Skype and make calls anywhere in the world for about 2 cents a minute. However, you'll have to find a wifi signal for this price. Wandering around Athens last year, I found several free wifi signals "floating" around in the air and I just bootstrap on to them whenever I felt like calling.
Note: You will have to setup an account before hand. I think the minimum deposit is $10 which is nearly 500 minutes. That cheap enough for you? And I think you can make absolutely free calls on Skype IF you call a Skype number.
If you want to avoid being dinged by ATT, be sure to have roaming turned off even if you have an int'l data plan. Only turn it on when you actually want to check mail/surf web. Otherwise, you will quickly exceed your data plan.

Manually Transfer Podcasts - Don't Show Up in iPod "Podcast" Area

Here's the scenario. My wife and I each have iPod Shuffles for use at the gym, etc... We each have our own computer and different iTunes libraries. For our anniversary, I bought her (us) an 80gb w/video. The thought was that we'd share both of our music libraries here along with videos/podcasts for us to use when we traveled (separately or together).
I've found that the best/easiest way for us to manage the iPod's library is to set it up for manual management. This was after doing a lot of searching forums on managing between two computers... unless that's changed, then no worries there.
My wife took a trip a couple of months ago and downloaded some individual podcasts (not subscribing) into her computer, from iTunes, and transferred them into the 80gb iPod for watching on the plane. They're in the Podcast section as expected. I'm taking a trip in a week and downloaded some additional podcasts from iTunes, and also did not subscribe to them. I did a drag and drop into the 80gb, but I couldn't find them looking through iTunes and through the iPod itself - except through the recently added files folder.
The only place I can find them is in the "Recently Added" folder, but that won't last long. So now that I've "found" the podcasts, how do I get them libraried (is that a real word?) into my Podcast section of my iPod? They do reside in the Podcast section of the iTunes program. I have version 7.2.0.35 of iTunes if that matters.

I don't know if this will help, but I was experiencing the same problem. Searching the discussions didn't help other than to confirm that I was not alone. So, I started poking around.
Background
I had been manually copying podcasts to iPod. Noticed this weekend new podcasts weren't showing up under podcasts, some did show up under music, and videos weren't showing up at all.
My Solution:
selected iPod device. Selected Podcasts. Selected sync. (wasn't syncing before). choose a couple podcasts to sync. Clicked apply. podcasts synced. wiped out all my existing podcasts but the new ones showed up. Still no videos though. Chose Movies. chose sync. Got message something like "The iPod "<my iPod>" is synced with another iTunes Library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library." I chose no (cancel), because I didn't want to wipe everything out without thinking about it.
Now Podcasts and videos show up on the iPod.

HELP! My iMac wont respond to install disc or any commands

I know I'm taking a trip in the "Way back" machine. But I'm pretty resourseful and haven't been able to find my problem. Either I need a Mac super genius or it’s something stupid simple that I’m overlooking.
Specs:
iMac G4 Serial# XXXXXXXX Sep. 2003 – July 2004
1.25GHZ/ 256MB/ 80GB 17” Screen
PowerPC 7445
History: I bought this used with the computer’s monitor backlight out. I could still barely see the sign-in page when I looked at a certain angle, so that was an indicator to me that the OS was working. So I replaced the monitor. At the same time because of owner exchange I had to replace the hard drive with a fully wiped blank one (Deskstar ATA/IDE). I purchased an install disc set 10.4.8, which according to Apple this computer is compatible with 10.2.3 thru10.5.8.
Problem: After reassembly, the replacement monitor works fine. But the system won’t respond to anything. All I get is the gray screen with the apple smiley face folder that alternates with a question mark. It won’t respond to the install disc, or any commands for that matter. Of course I double, triple, and quadruple checked my connections from reassmebling. Here’s what I’ve attempted, all ending up with the same screen display.
During power-up
C (…of     course to boot from the install disc. It just ejects the disc after about     30 seconds)
CMD-OPT-SHIFT-DEL
D (wont     respond to hardware test)
CMD-S     (won’t go into single user mode. It just goes to the same gray screen)
OPT (this     is the only way I get a different screen. It shows the recycle page symbol     and continue symbol. It will recycle the OPT process to stay on this     screen, but it won’t continue if I press that selection – nothing happens
I’ve reset the PRAM
I’ve tried different keyboards (all Apple)
I’ve tried plugging the keyboard into different USB slots
I’ve replaced the Hard Drive with yet another just in case. I’ve tried alternate jumper settings on the hard drive. The original wasset to “Cable”, so I set it to that. But I also tried “Master” jumper settings– no change in results. I can’t say for certain that I hear the DVD/CD drive spin up. But I figure even if I had a bad install disc or bad optical drive, I should still be able to get to the black screen single user mode, yes? So I’m at my wits end. Can any of you Mac geniuses out there please help me? Thanks

Install discs are specific to the machine they came with. You cannot use them on any other machine, so the ones you bought are useless. Buy a retail black faced copy of either Tiger or Leopard and you should be able to boot your machine, you need to format the drive as Mac OS extended (Journaled) when you first boot from the new retail disc.
I have also asked that your serial number be removed, it's not a good idea to post it.

I am trying to download my photos from my iphone to my mac-iphoto. It keeps trying but about halfway through it says there is an error with a photo therefore it wont download any of my pictures or videos. It wont tell me which picture is the issue.

I took a lot of pictures and video on my recent trip to Ireland. Now I am trying to download the photos and videos from my iphone to my mac - iphoto. I have tried 3 times and each time (at a different point) I get a message telling me that there was an error with one of my photos and it wont load the pictures. Help!!

Try using Image Capture to download to a folder on the Desktop. If there's a damaged file on the iPhone that's preventing the download you can isolate it with Image Capture and then delete it from the iPhone.

How to connect an iPad without Wi-Fi

I recently bought an RV and it has a couple of built-in TVs and an HDMI port for connecting BD Players and other things. I want to connect my Apple TV so I can steam movies from my iPad to the TV in the RV when taking road trips with the family. But the problem is no Wi-Fi in the RV, and short of actually installing a router, is there any other solutions to connect my iPad to the Apple TV? I heard of things like VPN, but don't know how to use them.
Any instructions would be awesome. Thanks!

buying a airport express would give you a wifi both ipad and appletv could connect to
other devices like hotspots or wifi routers would do the same job
other option is to buy the hdmi adaptor for the ipad and connect the ipad directly
or you could maybe use a phone or computer to make an adhoc network or hotspot
but that is a bit more work to get working

Questions on

I just have some questions on the RMA process through creative. I have a Zen Micro (5GB Silver) with the back button and play button sensitivity problem and I'd like to get it RMAed to attempt to get the issue resolved.
What contents should be packaged up? Should I only put the player itself (without the batter) into the original package and ship it or should I include all accessories?
Also, what type of shipping does Creative use to send the repaired/replaced product back? On average, how long does the entire process usually take?
I am taking a trip to London next Thursday April 4th (today is Sunday April 4th) and was wondering if I would possibly get an RMAed product back before that date?
And I would like to confirm that I will have to pay for my own shipping to Creative.

How do I "move forward" photos in a photobook (after removing a photo from being placed)

New to iphoto and Mac. I've created a Book from 3 projects. As I'm reviewing the photo book, there are photos I've decided I don't want and they have become Unplaced.
I'd like the remaining photos to be "moved forward" automatically - can this be done?
Same question when changing a layout from say 2 photos per page to 6 photos. All I end up with is a bunch of empty slots and I don't want to manually move forward a bunch of photos.
Any tutorials or resources you can suggest would be helpful. I've tried googling this problem, and am faced with too many answers about people and deleting the photo libraries etc.

I think what I'm looking/hoping for, is that iphoto could (at least in the beginning stages) "repaginate" my album if there are photos I want to remove. Just like when making a word document, when you delete some text, the rest of the text moves up and the document gets shorter.

there is no way to move photos forwards or backwards
so I created an album and iphoto slotted photos in there. On further review - there are certain photos I just don't want (i.e. not nice enough, detract from overall book etc.). If I remove something at the beginning, it's alot of manual work to move other photos forward.

The other situation is, when iphoto inserts the photos, it might not necessarily keep certain photos together (in this case, it's my parents' trip to Ireland) and we have a preference to keep photos from the same venue together on a page, not split by a page-flip. This is where I'd want to change a layout from say 2 photos to 6 photos and would like to automatically move the previous pages photos forward to be placed in the new empty slots.

You can ask - but what you want is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.
As to your use of the existing features - totally your choice - some people use certain features and other do not - do what you please
I generally find that if I am careful in selecting photos then Autoflow is a good start - but not always - just depends
And I usually fill holes with additional photos that I did not originally choose or change the number of photos in the layout I use for that page
