Taking audio off a DVD

Other than playing the DVD on the Computer, connecting an audio cable from the headset jack out to a vtr or similar device, recording the dvd audio to tape and then re-digitizing that audio back in, is there an easy way to get audio off a DVD into Final Cut Pro 4.5?

You know, I'd answer this question (which is asked about 15 billion times a week) if it was someone who just registered today and this was their first post ... but you've been here for 2 1/2 years and post here regularly....
No time like the present to finally learn the 'little used search function' !
Try it, set an example for the noobies!

  • Rip audio off DVD

    Hi Gang
    I did a show someone video taped and they sent me a DVD, Is there a way to separate audio off of a movie DVD to get it into Logic? other than real time?
    Thanks
    Don

    I got a star also and I guessed at half my answer... oh, where has quality control gone these days? Before you know it we'll all end up getting stars just for participating in a thread even if our answer is 180º out of phase with reality... We'll be just like kiddies in a baseball league (that's "rounders" to you, Rohan) who all get trophies even if they didn't win... What is the world coming to anyway??? Donald, man, you are contributing to the decline of civilization, one star at a time.
    Again!

  • Need help getting audio off of a dvd...

    [You can skip this paragraph if you don't need the backstory.]
    So, for several weeks I've been trying to get some audio off of a DVD of mine and into a simple mp3 file. A couple days ago I found and followed this guide, and thought I had succeeded. But after a while I realized that the file I got does not play nice with my handheld mp3 player, or mpd, or mplayer, or anything whatsoever that is not gstreamer-based. MPD goes especially berserk - after playing the file, it can no longer play anything else until I reboot (yes reboot - restarting mpd doesn't fix anything). I should also mention that I'm aware that the guide is not 100% correct; I followed the advice and corrections of some commentors there too.
    Anyways, I guess I need to ask for help with this. How would you go about getting audio off of a DVD?

    I usually use the following command to rip a music dvd to wav:
    OUTPUTDIR="/Some/Rip/Dir"
    TITLE=2
    FIRST_CHAPTER=1
    LAST_CHAPTER=13
    CHAPTER=$FIRST_CHAPTER
    AUDIO_ID=128
    echo "Ripping Audio..."
    while [ $CHAPTER -le $LAST_CHAPTER ]; do
    let NO=$CHAPTER
    mplayer -dvd-device /dev/dvd1 dvd://$TITLE -vo null -vc null -ao pcm:waveheader:file=$OUTPUTDIR/track$NO.wav -af lavcresample=44100 -aid $AUDIO_ID -chapter $CHAPTER-$CHAPTER
    let CHAPTER=CHAPTER+1
    done
    Resampling to 44100 is important since most mp3 players cannot handle 48000.
    Then I have another little script that converts it to flac, sets the correct tags, and finally converts the flac to oggs as well..

  • What's the simplest way to edit the audio on a DVD using a Mac?

    I appreciate you taking the time to read/respond to this post.
    Here's the deal:
    My church records its service on DVDs to pass out to members.  This past weekend an annoying, high-pitch hum found it's way on to our DVD.  We also record audio versions of our service to pass out on CDs, and (scratching my head) this week's CD turned out just fine, no hum.
    Is there an easy way to detach the "bad" audio from the DVD and replace it with the good "audio" from the CD?  I know I could do what I want using iMovie, but every time I do something like this using that program, the picture quality on my new DVD looks worst than the original, plus it takes a ton of time converting and reauthoring.
    Your help and suggestions are most appreciated.

    I've never really used IMovie cause I have Final Cut, but I'm surprised its degrading your video , This makes me wonder what format your movies are in , are they .dv ( digital video ) ?
    You may even take a look at your burn settings in IDVD , I cant think of anything else outside of video editing software that will do what you are trying to do, in short its your only real option..

  • Help! Trying to get a Video File off a DVD so I can use it in Final Cut Pro

    Okay. I'm trying to cut together a project and I need the video and audio off a short DVD. The DVD is under 5 minutes in length and is not copy right protected. For the life of me I cannot understand how to convert the files off the DVD to something I can work with. When I open the DVD I have 2 files: 1) AUDIO_TS and 2) VIDEO_TS. I would like to convert these to something FCP can understand (AVI, MPEG...anything). I have searched and searched the message boards and have found no useful information. I have a feeling it's something to do with Disk Utility but have found no clear instructions. Half the sites want you to buy their software. Surely there is some way to do this without buying additional software. Any help would be greatly apppreciated.

    There are four ways that I know of:
    1) Play the DVD and have the player's analog outputs connected to your DV VCR or camcorder, which then acts as a convertor to bring it into FCP
    2) MPEG StreamClip - FREE, rips the video and audio from the VIDEO_TS folder
    3) DVDxDV - $20 or so, does the same thing as MPEG-Streamclip only a little easier, IMO
    4) Cinematize - $70, same thing, more options

  • Recording audio from a DVD

    Does anyone know of a good freeware or shareware program for recording audio from a DVD into any format?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   80G HD/1.33GB RAM/ Too Much Music

    A nice tool for ripping and demuxing the audio part off a DVD is OSex.
    You will get ac3 track - convert them with mAC3dec. http://sourceforge.net/projects/mac3dec

  • Audio from a DVD

    I'm not sure where this should be posted, but I'm wondering if it's possible to "strip" the audio off of a dvd. In particular I have the Elton John Dream Ticket DVD that I would love to have the music from on my iPod. I guess if I upgraded to a video iPod I could do it, but short on change right now.

  • Can I import just the audio from a DVD into itunes????

    I'm a beginner to this Itunes and have been wondering this. If I can take audio files off of CDs and put them into Itunes. Can I take just audio from a DVD and put that into Itunes. Example: Can I take the audio from a live concert DVD for just one song?

    Welcome, Don, to the Apple Discussions!
    No, you can't do that with iTunes.
    There is third-party software available that allows you to do so, though.
    You might want to pay a visit to Google and enter

    or some such terms.

  • How do I get good audio feed from DVD player to my MBP using an optic cable

    I have successfully recorded audio off of concert DVD's using Sound Studio 3 by connecting my DVD player to my MBP using left/right outputs to a 35mm input. I purchased an optical cable, connected it to my DVD player and used a 35mm adapter to connnect it to my MBP input. All I get is a weird popping interferance type sound instead of clear audio. Any tips on what is going on? I have correct settings in system preferences (recognizes an optical connection) but all I hear is noise?
    Thanks for any help!

    I just use mac the ripper with the following instructions
    http://www.ripdifferent.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1249&sid=de5cc9506c05b6ba98d6 530884489333
    It gives you a few options for audio, I generally save as AAC though you can rip as AIFF and then encode into just about anything with quicktime.

  • Why can't I browse jam packs right off the DVD?

    I'm trying to use my jam pack DVD's without taking up space on my hard drive. There must be a way to browse jam packs straight off the DVD without installing them. How can I do this?

    You'll probably need to show invisible files in the Finder. Try this, for instance:

  • Turning the Audio off...

    Hello !!
    I would love to turn all of the audio off for my entire project.
    However, my media files were captured with audio. It is taking up extra room on my hard-drive and I do not need it. Thank you for your help...

    Audio is captured with video; both are in the same clip file.
    First, you need to understand that audio takes up a trivial amount of disk space compared to video; and even if you do delete the audio you are only going to free up a small amount of disk space, perhaps none if your clip files are small.
    You can turn off the audio (as compared to deleting it) in the Timeline in FCE. One way is to simply +mute the audio+ by clicking the green audibility button on the left end of the track. Or you could +separate the audio+ tracks from the video track; +and then delete+ the audio tracks from the timeline - however, this does not physically delete the audio from the original clip on your hard drive, it only removes it from the timeline.
    If you really want to physically delete the audio then you have work to do. Open the clip in FCE, place it in the Timeline, then Export the clip to QuickTime Movie - make sure that you CHECK the option called "Make Movie Self-Contained" and *Include > Video Only*. After you have exported the clip, you will have a clip that contains video only. Then you will have to delete the original clip from your hard drive and replace it with the clip you just exported.
    Or you could use QuickTime Pro. Open your clip in QT Pro, then Export it to QuickTime Movie, select Options & then UNcheck 'Sound'. After it's done, you will have to delete the original clip from your hard drive and replace it with the clip you just exported.

    iphone wont let me recieve yahoo mail, tried switching off phone,taking account off and on. did a restore on my phone the yahoo server says on but it is pale so you cant switch off or on.  my phone will recieve bt mail and internet not affected.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hello there stidhambr15,
    I was researching the issue you are having and recommend a couple of things. First it might be a good idea to reset the device following iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    Resetting your device
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    If that doesn't quite get the device going again, I recommend restoring the device.
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software

    Might even be a good idea to turn off the phone, reseat the SIM card, and turn it back on.

  • After upgrading to mountain lion, i cannot play any video at all, be it directly off a DVD, or through streaming like youtube, BBC iplayer or even off my iTunes library

    after upgrading to mountain lion, i cannot play any video at all, be it directly off a DVD, or through streaming like youtube, BBC iplayer, love film or even directly off my iTunes library. in each case, all i get is a black screen and no error message.

    Hi, i had the same problem and tried this,
    Somehow iTunes is tied to Safari. Try this:
    Someone mentioned to clear all website data and history in safari, stupid but it was either this or the below that fixed it
    or this,
    Disable Wi-Fi Networking Services
    Many users have reported that they’ve solved their issues by disabling Wi-Fi Networking under Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services. This only relates to your location being used for Wi-Fi Networking, so it doesn’t disable Wi-Fi entirely.
    Please let me know if it works.

  • Ripping audio from a DVD - Any ideas for Macs

    Hi
    I found a nice and simple piece of software from www.imtoo.com which can rip the audio out of a DVD and save it as an audio file for import to iPod. For a whole bunhc of reasons I'd rather have just the audio from films and comedy shows than the whole video.
    Oddly this was listed in MacWorld, but they don't do an Apple Mac version. I am after a one stop solution if anyone knows of one - guess there must be as the IMTOO product works so elegantly, am sure someone has done this for the Mac.
    Cheers
    Sammy

    I am not aware of any tool for the Mac that can rip audio from a DVD-A (audio only) disk.
    I am also not aware of any 1 step tool for ripping the audio from ordinary DVD video disks.
    The approach I took when I did this involved using MacTheRipper to copy to a hard disk, another tool to extract the audio, and then if I remember correctly, I used QuickTime to save the tracks as individual files (with the correct track lengths are listed on the cover). I was then able to burn the results files to a CD (audio format), and incredibly the resulting CD was recognised by iTunes (and Gracenote CDDB) with the correct tracks names etc. (The DVD was of a concert.)
    This as you can tell was not a simple one step operation, it took most of an afternoon trying various tools.

  • Extract audio from a DVD how to

    Is there a FREE and ease way to extract audio from a DVD?
    Thank you

    Set a tape recorder next to your speaker? Seriously, though - what kind of DVD? If it's a commercial DVD, it's copyright protected and people here shouldn't give you advice on how to do it. There are other places besides Apple's discussion forums to get that kind of info, and I don't see why this question belongs in "Using Mac OSX Leopard" in the first place.
