Taking down DAG member for maintenance

Hello I need some advice on what to do.
I have a two-member Exchange 2010 DAG.  One is an active server where everything is mounted.  The other is simply the passive server.  I will need to power down the passive server in a few days for some extended maintenance.  Roughly
several hours.  I know for a fact (because I've been through this before) replication will be cut off during this time and as a result I cannot run a full Exchange backup to flush all the transactions logs and secondly, the copy queues will be very backed
up.  Last time they were so backed up all efforts to reseed the passive copy of the mailbox databases failed.  In the end I think I had to delete and copy the active server's databases over.  That took a really really long time.
So to avoid all that headache what should I do for this upcoming maintenance to make life easier?
- Is there a way I can literally STOP replication or even delete the passive copies of the mailbox databases just so I can run full backups and truncate transaction logs?
- Otherwise, assuming I have backed up copy queues, should I simply try reseeding or resuming synchronization?  Or should I not even waste time and delete all the passive copies and their files and start fresh with NEW copies?

I've seen the "Failed and Suspended" status and recovered using the Update-MailboxDatabaseCopy
command below. For example:
PS] C:\>Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus DB1\EX13-2 | fl Name,Status,CopyQueueLength,ReplayQueueLength,ContentIndexState
Name                 : DB1\EX13-2
Status               : FailedAndSuspended
CopyQueueLength      : 3
ReplayQueueLength   : 0
ContentIndexState    : Failed
We then update (or reseed) the failed database copy with the data from a good copy:
[PS] C:\>Update-MailboxDatabaseCopy DB1\EX13-2 -DeleteExistingFiles
I understand the reseed process can be lengthy but I'm not sure there are better (supported) methods.

  • Taking a server down for maintenance

    Hi,
I have two weblogic servers (6.0 sp2), running on separate machines, participating
    in a cluster.
I have 2 apache servers on the front-line using the weblogic plugin to handle
load-balancing the requests to the weblogic cluster.
How do I deativate a server? How do I stop all NEW requests going to a particular
server in a cluster so that I can take the machine that the server is running
    on down for maintenance?
I do not want to stop the server as I would like to continue serving the requests
that have been directed to that particular server by the proxy plugin. I would
prefer to stop NEW requests going to box, and then take down the server once all
    sessions have ended.
How do most people take physical machines down for maintenance?
    Thanks

  • DAG member, PF database host, and hub maintenance (6hr power-off)

    Hello,
We have an EPO test coming up in one of our data centers that requires me to power off 2 of our 4 DAG members. In preparation for this I’ve been reading up on DAG member maintenance best practice as well as deconstructing the Start[Stop]DagServerMaintenance.ps1
script. After testing in my lab I noticed that the iteration of Suspend-MailboxDatabaseCopy is followed by the parameter -ActivationOnly and sets ActivationSuspended to True. Why only suspend copy activation and not database copy processes? Does the script
assume that DAG member maintenance does not include server shutdown or is suspending database copy processes not actually necessary?
Also, one of the DAG members I have to power off serves 1 of 3 of our PF databases. I’ve noticed that the Start[Stop]DagServerMaintenance.ps1 scripts do nothing for PF databases. Should I just unmount it and rely on standard PF replication to update it when
I mount it back? Do I need to change my databases over to use a different PF database?
The power-off duration is 6 hours so I'm not too worried about log build up. Our CAS servers are VMs and will be “motioned” to our other data center. We have two Hub Transport servers, I plan to simply power one of them off. Am I missing anything?
    Thanks!

    Belinda,
Your understanding and the article you provided on Managing Database Availability Groups seems to be inline with what I've described. However,
just our of curiosity can you or anyone else explain why the script StartDagServerMaintenance.ps1
only runs Suspend-MailboxDatabaseCopy -ActivationOnly? In other words, why does the script only suspend copy activation and not the copy process?
"Did the two Hub Transport servers locate in the same AD site?", yes they are in the same
AD site but different physical locations. The article on HSS helped explain HT HA.
    Thanks again!

  • Shutting down for maintenance

got 2 mbx nodes in one dag.  I will be shutting them down for maintenance.  Node A, I will put in maintenance mode and shutdown.  whats the best way to shut down nodeB.  Should I put that also in maintenance mode bfore I shut down?
What about the cas/ft role server ... I can leave that running I guess?
    thanks

    Hi,
For the HT/Cas if you are having high availbilty then you can do the maintenance activity then restart the server for mbx if it si dag start by Move-ActiveMailboxDatabase -Server  SERVERNAME. similarly for other nodes once done run the script  .\RedistributeActiveDatabases.ps1
     based upon the activatiion

  • Here's a fix for Safari hanging and taking down the system..

There appears to be a serious bug in Mac OS X's lookupd which can pull the rug right out from under Mac OS X Tiger. While this bug could possibly be triggered in a number of different ways, there has been a recent rash of reports that have been tracked to some mainstream Web sites such as FoxNews.com using links to an adware site js.adsonar.com. This document describes a quick way out of the hang and a simple way to block links to js.adsonar.com from taking down Tiger again. While this doesn't fix the underlying lookupd bug itself, it prevents Mac OS X from hanging, while allowing you to continue using Web sites like FoxNews.com with full Java and JavaScript access enabled.
The symptoms of this problem are as follows:
    • You're surfing the web and the page you are on fails to completely load.
    • No further pages will load in your browser.
    • You can switch to other applications that may already be running and save any open files.
    • You can no longer launch any additional applications, their icons will bounce in the dock for a while and then they will just stop bouncing.
    • You can no longer use any other Finder functions.
    • You can no longer use command-option-escape to force quit.
    • You can not log out, restart or shut down.
Apparently these symptoms indicate that a low-level component of Mac OS X, lookupd, has hung. Since lookupd is used by many other parts of Mac OS X, it effectively hangs Mac OS X itself.
If this sounds like a problem you are having, try the steps in the following link to fix it.
Mac OS X Tiger lookupd bug & adsonar fix
    Hope it helps,

    Hi Bee,
There is indeed "such a bug", though you may be fortunate enough to not be affected. Unfortunately MANY others are affected by this. I spent three days helping track this down (many of those 38 posts were while tracking it down in the Tiger discussions) and find a fix to this and thought that others might benefit by my efforts... By the way it's NOT a Safari bug, it happens in any browser, it's a "lookupd" bug which may be triggered by surfing to certain sites which contain links to "js.adsonar.com", which if you have JavaScript enabled can hang lookupd and take down your entire system... consider yourself lucky that it hasn't happened to you...

I only posted this fix to the specific threads where people were having Safari hang, incase it might help them. Forgive me for trying to help them... I thought that was the point of these boards and that was why they started threads about their issues... I'd be willing to bet that this fix will indeed fix many of their problems...
I also posted one additional new topic here on the Safari board and one on the Tiger board for new readers looking for solutions to the same system hangs they may be getting while surfing.
If this fix does indeed help any of you other readers, please post back here so that Bee can indeed see that I'm not just posting here to waste my time...

  • How to disable alerts when OMS is down for maintenance?

    Hi,
When we bring down OEM 12c application for maintenance for a period of time, lots of alert e-mails got sent out due to the fact the OMS is down. These alert e-mails contains the following info in the e-mail subject line:
EM Event: <Severity>:<target-name> - Agent is unable to communicate with the OMS. (REASON = Agent is Unreachable (REASON : Agent to OMS Communication is brokenFailure connecting to https://oem12-stg:4900/empbs/upload
These alert e-mails are not necessary and annoying. Does anyone know if there is a way to disable these alert e-mails temporarily during the OMS maintenance window?
    Thank you for the help.

  • Is iTunes Connect down for maintenance?

I'm in the process of signing up for the first time and all day I've got a message saying I should try again later because it's down for maintenance. Now, I wouldn't normally doubt Apple over something as straightforward as an error message but there's no other sign that it's down. Not in Apple's System Status for instance.
And over the weekend I lost an hour because an application threw up a similar message when it was really a completely different issue that was stopping me.
Have you noticed whether it's down for you? And if it is, do you happen to know how long it usually stays down for, please?
Thanks for any help: I am, of course, trying to do this against the clock so that I can at least get something started on the process before I go on holiday.
    William

I am trying to use the Autoingestion jave tool for the first time and I am getting these error messages:
The username and password parameters have been deprecated. Please use the properties file for user credentials.
The report you requested is not available at this time.  Please try again in a few minutes.
Before I drive myself crazy, is the system up and running at this time?
    Thanks

  • Temporarily disable STMS/MPXIO for maintenance

    Hi-
Looking for advice. I have six active/active arrays using STMS/MPXIO, Sun/Qlogic FC4 hbas and V40z's running S10_U3 x86. Each array has 84 LUNs, with 8 paths, presented to around 20 hosts. Periodically I need to bring down one of the arrays for maintenance (firmware upgrades). When the array is offline STMS/MPXIO generates lots of inquiriy traffic trying to get the paths back online. During a particulary nasty maintenance cycle, my Oracle RAC system (connected thru the same SAN) paniced since it was taking too long to get to the Oracle device.
During my maintnenance cycles I'd like to disable MPXIO for the particular array, so that the retry/inquiry traffic is suppressed and will allow my other arrays to continue production.
I think I could use luxadm disable /dev/rdsk/cXtYdZs2 for the mpxio devices of all luns in that array (create a sceript to do this) and follow up with an enable after the work is done.
I'd like to know if anyone has done something like this and if it is also something I could do with the new mpathadm command that is/will replace the luxadm command.
    Thanks

  • How to create transaction code for maintenance view

    hai friends,
i hope every thing goes good.
i have doubt, how to create transaction code for maintenance view. I created view for tranperant table and now i want to create transaction code for the view.
i tried and i donot know the screen number and program name and where can i give the view name.
if any one know please post in details.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi Elam,
You need to create a "Parameter Transaction".
What this means is that you will have a transaction (let's call it "ZMAINT") which calls "SM30" and passes in your table name.
Go to transaction SE93 and enter your new transaction code. Enter in the Tcode description and choose "Transaction with Parameters" (it shouldbe the last radio button).
Enter in the default transaction "SM30" and tick the "Skip Initial Screen" check box. Hit Enter.
Now scroll to the bottom of the screen and you will see a Table Control where you will need to enter in the values to the SM30 selection screen.
Because you hit ENTER, the program will have loaded in the Selection Screen parameters into it's memory. Hit the drop down for "Name of Screen Field" and select "VIEWNAME" and then enter in your Z Table in the "Value" column.
Now go to the next line and hit the drop down and select "UPDATE" in the "Name of Screen Field". Enter in a "X" in the value column.
Now save the transaction and there you have it.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Pat.

  • I've been a GCU member for awhile. Forgot about the 3 game limit. How can I fix it?

I've been a GCU member for over 2 years. I forgot about the purchase limit on new games. I grabbed 4 copies of a game yesterday, and they shipped today. At some point today while I was spacing out I remembered about the limit for the program. What can I do for this, can I just return the 4th copy or will that not help?
If a mod could get back to me about this I would appreciate it.
