Taking forever to open PSE 10- searching for plug-ins?

I'm back, Community Professionals!  Why does the Photoshop 10 take so long (5min.) to look for all the plug-ins every time I try to use it?  Once it lets me know that 3 are unavailable... the program shows up on the screen and I can start working.  It sure slows down the creative juices.  What is the difference between the Editor and PSE?  I have two Icons on my tool bar.  Only Editor opens.  I have not used it since I talked to you last in November.  My old PSE 6 won't recognize my scanner/printer anymore (must be that newer Twain that I installed) but the new software PSE10 does.  I know what you will say... it's the plug-ins.  Anything else you can comment on in PSE 10 that I will need to address?  I know that yoiu don't work for PS.  Thanks, OMI

Yes, I think you damaged it pretty badly by removing those plug-ins and trying to open it. Here's what I would do:
1. Uninstall via the uninstaller.
2. Go to your username>library>preferences and delete:
com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 paths
Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 settings
Also anything beginning with com.adobe. that mentions Organizer. If you are using lion your username>library is a hidden folder. To see it, in the Finder, click the Go Menu and then hold down the Option key. It will appear in the menu just below the little house for your account.
3. Reinstall PSE.
4. Repair permissions before starting PSE, and then launch the editor directly, not the welcome screen. It's this file:

  • Open/Save Panels taking *forever* to open

    Hi all
The last few months, the open and save panels have been taking forever to open on my mac (by forever, I mean I will have to sit and watch the spinning beach-ball for at least a minute while the computer thinks about it). It normally (well, always) happens the first time any app has to open them, but then they open fine after that. (until the next application wants to open one).
Is this a global problem with the recent builds of 10.4? Or is it my computer being weird?
    Adam

    Ah yes.
I seem to remember back in the 10.3 days there was a similar problem with certain applications (actually, I think it was iTunes taking forever to open if you had the iDisk mounted). Anyhow, I shall simply have to change how I store my files (i.e. not on the iDisk by default).
    Thanks for the suggestions!

I'm running Windows 7x64 and Firefox 6.0.2 is taking forever to open any website, the little spinning circle is driving me mad. Once it has opened my bookmarks and history haven't loaded. Once in ten attempts it does load correctly but this is happening less frequently...

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    * You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • Am I correct that Photos does not support external editors? i.e., in Aperture, I click Photos Edit with.... and can open in Photoshop or various plug-ins. Changes are then automatically saved back to Aperture. Nonexistent in Photos?

Am I correct that Photos does not support external editors? i.e., in Aperture, I click Photos > Edit with.... and can open in Photoshop or various plug-ins. Changes are then automatically saved back to Aperture. Nonexistent in Photos?

Thanks Larry. That certainly gives me some understanding. Can't imagine I'm the only Aperture user with that concern, so I certainly hope Adobe and others will fill the void. Without that feature, Photos is pretty much a non-started for me.

  • Very Long Lag at "Scanning for Plug-ins" in PS CS3

PS CS3 lags for several minutes while the splash screen displays "Scanning for Plug-ins". PS loads and seems to work properly after the 2 - 3 minutes lag, but it's annoying.
I have deleted the preferences file, the plug-ins cache file and even the entire settings file in PS. I've tried shift-ctl-alt. I've chkdsk'd my primary drive.
This is a fresh install on a new os install (winxp sp2, current updates).
Any ideas? I swapped mobos to improve performance and this is a drag.

Update: Connecting the scanners to complete driver initialization did not resolve the problem. Even rolling back my changes and removing the Nikon Scan and Epson Scan software did not resolve the slowdown at the PS plugin scan.
I noticed that the Epson software took 4 minutes to load when I ran the app (Epson Control Panel or something like that). This is really strange. I removed the scanner software but that has not resolved the problem. I do have a network HP all-in-one. (OfficeJet 7310xi). Does that have twain drivers? Nothing shows up under scannners in control panel.
This is really weird. My system has a dual-core processor and 4 gig of memory.

  • Photoshop Elements 10 - takes over 4 minutes to load - hangs on "Scanning for plug-ins..."

Since mid-February 2014, having problems with both Photoshop Elements 10 and Photoshop CS4 extended (v 11.0.2) - both take around 4 minutes to load, when previously they loaded very quickly.
In Photoshop CS4 there is no activity on-screen for 2 minutes, then it hangs on the start up screen for another two minutes on "Scanning for plug-ins." Similar issue with Elements 10.
I am running on Windows 8.1, 64-bit. I also have Lightroom 5.4 installed.
Any help gratefully received, as this is driving me mad!

UPDATE: After having had my iPod plugged in for TWO HOURS, it has finally been detected by iTunes.

  • "scanning for plug ins" it never finds....

I installed photoshop elements 12 but it doesn't come up, when I click on the icon it says "scanning for plug-ins" and never does anything else.  what should I do to get it working?

Without proper system info nobody can tell you anything.

  • Dreamweaver cs5.5 opening files after searching for text code

This just occured this afternoon.  I was working on a page and when I went to search for text in the code (ie "/head") dreamweaver would open a previously opened page.  In other words I was working on "walk.php" and when I did the search for "/head", dreamweaver opens "add_rsurvey_data.txt".  I know what the 2nd file is but I haven't opened it in months.  It's just a temp data file that my partner sent me.
    I'm using cs5.5
    Adobe will not help me.
    Thanks
    Glenn

We don't get attachments from email replies here.  You would need to use the Camera icon in the actual web forum to a post screen shot.
If this began yesterday, try deleting your Cache & restarting DW.

  • My I Mac is very slow or not responding.  Mail takes forever to open and pinwheel continues for along time

My I Mac, using 10.8.4 is very slow, mail takes forever to open and the spinning pinwheel starts every time I try to use mail.  any suggestions?

What year, screen size, CPU speed and amount of RAM installed?
How full is your Mac's hard drive?
How full is your Apple Mail?
How many applications do you run simultaneously in the background while working in another application?
Do you run any antivirus software on your Mac? Antivirus software can slow down the normal operation of OS X.
Do you run any "crapware" like Mackeeper or any other type of "crapware" like so called hard drive "cleaning" apps?

  • In CS4, "Cannot open file" "Please upgrade your plug-ins..."

    Greetings,
I am using InDesign CS4 on a PC. I am trying to open an .indd file created by our marketing department. I don't know what version of InDesign they use nor whether they work on Macs or PCs.
When I double-click to open the file, I get a "Cannot Open File" popup box. The box reads "Cannot open docname.indd. Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign." It then lists 18 different plugins:
    ASSIGNMENTS.RPLN
    TEXT.RPLN
    SPREAD.RPLN
    MASTER PAGE.RPLN
    TEXT ATTRIBUTES.RPLN
    .... and 13 more.
When I go to Help > Configure Plug-Ins, I can see that I do have all of these plug-ins. But apparently they are not the latest versions.
Anyone know how I can update these plugins? I have searched for them on the Adobe website, but no joy.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jen

It's a safe bet that they are working in CS5. The only way to get those plugins is to install CS5 on your machine.
You could ask your marketing department to export an IDML file from CS5, which you can open up in CS4, but it might fail horribly (and it's guaranteed to lay out incorrectly if they've used any tools in CS5 that aren't in CS4). If you rely on this workflow, by regularly using a document going back and forth between CS5 and CS4, chances are very, very good that it will fail at a critical moment. The only really safe thing to do here is to get everyone using the same version of InDesign.

  • Unable to open documents because of missing plug ins

I am unable to open documents in CS3 (version 5.04)
    I am getting a message:"Missing Plug Ins: Conditional Text.InDesignPlugIn, WorldReady.InDesignPlugin.
The document "xxxxx.indd" uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?"
If I click on OK I get another window, stating "Cannot Open File", a list of all kind of missing Plugins and the message "Cannot open "xxxxx.indd". Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign.
I don't want to switch to CS4 and as far as I know version 5.04 of CS3 is the latest.
Any ideas of what I could do to get the latest PlugINs or anything else that would help?
    Thank you!
    Anne

Probably, but it's 100% not necessary when going from CS4 to CS3. It might be a case of 'half read, then half-understood'.
As this is a really frequent question and there are still no sticky posts: anyone up for a "feature request" that makes InDesign check the version number before opening? (Of course that wouldn't work backwards to CS3. Still, it'd avoid these kind of posts when CS6 comes out. Note: not CS5, because that would have no problems opening CS4, but CS4 would have problems with Cs5! Oh, for planning ahead ...  )

  • Is any Logic 8 (Studio) user able to open STP with audio units plug-ins?

All of my 3rd party audio units plug-ins work with Logic 8: UAD, Powercore, PSP, NomadFactory, and RND.
MainStage and WaveBurner open without any problems.
Soundtrack Pro will only open if all of my AU plug-ins are removed to a "Components (Disabled)" folder.
I tried adding a few AU back into the components folder. Some seem ok, but if STP crashes after more AU's are added, then those that previously passed inspection seem to then cause STP to crash on start up.
I've tried trashing the com.apple.soundtrackpro.plist, EffectsCache.plist with temporary benefit.
I would like to use STP for mastering Logic audio mixes before burning in WaveBurner. Isn't this one of the benefits of purchasing Logic Studio???
    What to do???

    A little patience pays off...
The problem is...the +_*&^%$#@!!! TC PowerCore plugins!!!
And I'm somebody who actually likes them.
After receiving a suggestion that the TC Assimilator in particular might be problematic, I decided to gradually add everything but TC plugs. STP is now well behaved. I tested the waters by adding TC ClassicVerb and MegaVerb. So far...OK. The TC ClassicVerb is one of the best out there besides the $699 TC VSS3.
I can live without the other TC stuff for right now.
Again, I really appreciated the support.

  • Preferred package naming conventions for plug-ins?

Every combination seems to be in use already...
    VIM plug-ins are vim-plugin_name
    XFCE plug-ins are xfce4-plugin_name-plugin
    GIMP plug-ins are (mostly) gimp-plugin-plugin_name
I plan on making some plug-in packages for a application what dose not currently have any available. So as the topic says what's preferred package naming convention? I personally like the GIMP format best but just figured I'd ask first (should really be in the guidelines IMO).

Ok well I guess I'll use the third option for now them.
While we're talking about naming conventions I was just searching for the python cairo library noticed binding library's could do with some guidance to...
    cairo-perl
    pycairo
    ruby-rcairo
IMO language-library_name would be a nice guideline.

  • Doc for plug-ins

    Hi all,
This is more of a "design/structural" than a "what button do
    I press" question.
I have a rather large application that has a "base" .chm file
associated with it (already quite huge). Our customers may also
purchase plug-ins, but won't necessarily all have the same set. So
while one user's application may look like this:
    Main-app
    +plug-in A
    +plug-in B
    another's may look like this:
    Main-app
    +plug-in A
    +plug-in E
I distribute a .chm file with the main-app.
In the table of contents for my main app's .chm file, I'd
like to have a section called "Plug-Ins" that could be dynamically
populated. I'd like to achieve that by distributing a small set of
help with each plug-in that could be 'dropped' into a help
directory and extend the help system after restarting.
Since we're dealing with compiled help systems, I think I
already know the answer. I don't think this is possible right now,
but has anyone had a similar problem/solution? Any options for
    dynamic loading at runtime?
    Alternately:
    1) If I have to do separate .chm files for the main-app and
each plug-in, can I at least force them to open in the same help
    window?
    2) If I have separate .chm files, I'd like to have
cross-references from the plug-in projects to the main-app project.
Are cross project references possible without entangling the two
component projects? (I'd be fine if the links in the plug-in help
didn't work if used without the Main-app help in place.)
    Thanks in advance,
    -Greg

    Thanks again, Elisa & Anne.
Wanted to give you an update.
I think you're right, copying the target .chm to the current
project is just for setting up the cross references. However, if I
have lots of subprojects, this will make for a nightmare on
Windows, given that I have to copy a 25 or 30 Mb file into each
subproject just to do cross-reference. (If I could set up a unix
type link on a windows box, that problem would go away, but
    alas...)
So I've arrived at the following choices:
    1) Stick with a .chm for the main project, create stubs for
each plug-in project, but don't do any cross referencing between
projects. <<sigh>> This lets me have a single TOC, and
I can distribute doc for each plug-in separately, so it looks like
one system. I'd then always regenerate the master project to get an
    updated .h file.
    -or-
    2) Looking at a merged Webhelp project. I've been posting
over in that forum, and have already tried the process using some
ideas on Peter Grainge's site. The advantages are that you can do
true cross project references, distribute new projects without
having to create stubs in the "main" project, plus you get true
cross platform compatibility. I'm sorting out how to merge .h files
and use them to call help sections in webhelp, but if that works, I
may have to tease things apart and go that route.
So while not a 100% success, I've at least found the
boundaries, and I can decide what to do.
Thanks very much for all your help!
    -Greg
