Taking music off my iPod
Hi, hopefully somebody will be able to help me,
I had to have the harddrive changed on my new computer and lost all of my information including my songs, because it always crashed before I was able to back them up. I was wondering if there is any way to take the music off my iPod Touch using iTunes. I know there are ways to do this without iTunes using third-party programs but I would like to refrain from that. The music I would like to remove from it was not purchased on iTunes but is from my own collection. All help is appreciated.
better to do it as soon as possible, becaouse later it can be too late.

I keep trying to sync music and its taking music off! Idk whats going on!
So I downloaded music for my phone, and i have never had this problem, but it keeps taking music off and not putting what I want on there.. I dont get it.
If the music is not on the iPod or on the new computer you may be out of luck. Can you copy the music from your old computer?
You may be able to contact the iTunes and them MAY allow you to redownload the music at no additional cost. To contact them go here:

I have not had a computer for several years and I just got a new one. My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. Thank goodness I had it all on my Ipod Nano 2nd GEN. Now my problem is that I don't know how to get the music off my Ipod Nano onto my new computer!!! I was able to get the songs that I purchased thru ITunes by just authorizing my new computer. But I have alot more music that is on my Ipod nano that I can't put into my ITunes library. In fact, I can't even get my music into a file folder on my computer!! I really need help. I don't have any copies of the music anywhere else and some of it is hard to get. How do I get my music either into ITunes or into a file folder on my new computer or even if I could get my computer to recognize my Ipod and sync all the music into windows media or something like that. Every time I connect my IPod all that happens is that it tells me if I sync the IPod that it will replace all the music from my ITunes library on to my IPod. And I am guessing that means all my music on the IPod will be erased. PLEASE HELP ME!!!! Thanks from the bottom of my songsters heart
From the OP: "My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. "
They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod. -

Hello - I have been getting error message 13019 all afternoon and I have never had that before. I have listened to all the suggestions on this site and nothing has helped. And know I have lost all the music off my ipod (luckily it is still on itunes) I really need this figured out asap since I leave on vacation in 4 days! Please somebody help. I have never had so many issues
When you open iTunes and plug in iPhone (iPod) to computer, it appear in the left bar. Then just simply right click on you iPhone (iPod) and choose Transfer Purchases, this should copy your purchased items to your computer.
Hope this help -
My hard drive is corrupt even though I can listen to the music on the Ipod. Itunes says it is corrupt so obviously cannot read it properly. You can hear the disk reader resetting every few seconds preventing the data recovery.
We can see the track listings and playlists which we used for our wedding in 2005 and desperately want them back.
Sadly we lost the hard drive that had Itunes on it with all our music which we dont have a back up of.
Is there anyway it can be repaired and then we get the music off the Ipod and get it back on a new pc....and back it up of course?!!!From the OP: "My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. "

You need to copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to the new one.
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. The exception being itunes purchases: File>Transfer Purchases -
How do I retrieve the music off my iPod after installing a new hard drive on my laptop
My laptop harddrive was just replaced, and I didn't have my iTunes backed up. When I went to sync my iPod with my new iTunes, it says that my iPod is already synced to another iTunes library, so I can't sync it to mine. But that old one was on my dead hard drive. How can I retrieve my music off my iPod?
Copy the entire iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.

Call me silly but how do you get your music off your ipod....
My old computer crashed, lucky me all my music was on my ipod, but now how do i get it out!!! and on to a new computer?? help
Hello there,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

Hi! My computer recently crashed and i lost all my music and i can not seem to find the cd i burned with all my music. I have been dying to update my ipod, but I am afraid I will loose all of my music already on there. My question, is there anyway i can get the music off my ipod onto my computer? And if so, how do I need to congfigure itunes to put my old music and my new music back on to my ipod. Please be kind, for i am not the smartest person when it comes to how ipods work.
ThanksYou can't sync your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
PodPlayer Windows Only
iGadget Windows Only
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you are using the iPod in manual update mode, your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased when you connect to an empty iTunes after reinstalling your operating system. However if your iPod is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual.
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. -
Getting Music off of Ipod Touch
My computer crashed and the hard drive had to be replaced. I foolishly didn't have any of my music backed up. I have all my music and movies still on my Ipod Touch. Is there any way I can get my music off my Ipod, and onto a external drive, so that way I can reload it into ITunes??? I talked to Apple, but they really weren't any help. I'd appreciate any suggestions!
You can transfer itunes purchases:
Without syncing: File >Transfer Purchases
