Taking my UK 5800 to australia

Hi,
I bought a pre paid 5800 with O2 in the UK but have now moved to australia.  All O2 phones are supposedly unlocked, but I cannot use an Australian sim card in my phone, it says that the sim card is invalid.  I have tried my parents pre paid optus sim card and also another bloke i met in malaysia with a black berry.  Can anybody help me?  Having no phone is killing me.
Thanks
John W

You say you bought prepay. In the UK almost all service providers only sell locked phones to prepay customers to prevent fraud. It's postpay (contract) phones that are supplied unlocked ( by o2 and most of the others).
Sorry - but it's bad news. you'll have to get it unlocked (if they do that in the land of Oz).

  • Taking a Mac purchased in Australia to Canada

    Hi,
Could anyone advise if there are any problems taking a Mac Mini or iMac purchased in Australia to Canada? i.e. powersupply voltages and international support.
My friends are really interested in getting a new Mac for their family but are moving to Canada in the new year and would like some assurance it will work in both countries.
    Thanks.

    Hi wjharvey,
All LCD iMacs and mac mini's sold in Australia will work in Canada, however the reverse is not true - for some reason, Apple decided to make the first iMac G5s sold in Canada, US and Japan will only work on those countries' 100-110V supplies.
They will need a power cable converter or new power cables, but they are easy to find.
The DVD drive in the machine only has 5 changes available, which may be a problem, but there's not much that can be done about that (without warranty voiding drive swaps and firmware flashes).
They may also need a different modem to comply with legal requirements, and they shouldn't set the Airport to use Channels 12-13, which are legal in Australia, but not north america, but aside from that, there won't be any issues.

  • Carrier unlocked but problem unlocking iPhone

I have received confirmation from my carrier that I can now unlock my iPhone 4s (the 2 year contract has finished and I've received an email with instructions). However I've followed all the carrier instructions, Apple instructions, on-line forum advice etc and I'm not getting the "Congratulations, your phone ins unlocked" message in iTunes after I do the Restore. I did a back-up and then Restore to Original Settings.
I want to stay with the carrier for a while yet so am doing all this with the orginal SIM card in the phone. I'm taking the phone back to Australia in a couple of months but want to make sure it is unlocked before I go, so I need to keep the same SIM card until I go. I'm currently in the US.
Do I need to have a new SIM card in the phone when restoring to unlock it or can I do it with the original SIM card?
Can someone walk me through exactly what the steps are?

    iPhone: About unlocking
Yes, or instead of buying new sim, if you have friends or relatives that are iPhone users and on a different network why not borrow sim card

  • 5800 release date for Australia

Does anyone know when the 5800 Navigator version will get released in Australia. I can only see non Australian sellers. From what I understand is that the navigation version has spoken GPS commands which the music version does not.  However I don't really know  what other differences there are.

Voice navigation is available for both. It normally requires a subscription, and the Navigation Edition includes two years subscription and I think a dashboard mount. However earlier this year Nokia released Ovi Maps 3.03, which made voice navigation free. This will run on every version of the 5800.
    http://maps.nokia.com/ovi-services-and-apps/ovi-maps
It does require software update version 40 though. If the handset has been customised by an operator or is for an obscure region that's not necessarily available.

  • Investing podcasts from UK and Australia taking over?

I have produced an investing podcast for years and suddenly notice that the top investing podcast category is now loaded with podcasts from Australia and the UK. Did iTunes combine all of the English speaking podcasts recently? This change seems to be doing a disservice to listeners in each of the countries, as every country has a very distintive investment system. Americans can't access UK funds, and vice versa. Does anyone know who to contact at iTunes to suggest that these changes be reconsidered. Plus, no offense toward Australians, but I can't see how Money News with Ross Greenwood (from Radio 2GB in Sydney) can possible be more popular than nationally syndicated hosts in the U.S. like Dave Ramsey, Jim Cramer, or Suze Orman. It's a pure numbers game with 313 million people vs 22 million.

You can email them at podcasts 'at' apple.com but to be honest I doubt you will get a useful reply. No-one outside Apple knows how these results are arrived at.

  • Taking a new unlocked iPhone from Australia to the USA

    Hi all,
A thorough search of the net has failed to answer this question and I'm hoping you can help. There are a few threads that explore using an unlocked Aus iPhone in the USA but they all seem to deal with phones unlocked from a carrier.
I have bought a new factory unlocked iPhone from Apple Australia. If I insert a local SIM (like a Vodaphone) to get the phone operating in Australia do I need to unlock it to use it in the USA or does it stay unlocked? I would like to remove the Vodaphone SIM and use an American network while I am there.
    Thanks,
    Shannon

No, if it's officially unlocked by the carrier or factory-unlocked from the Apple Store, it will work with an AT&T SIM card here in the US. But, apparently there are some issues with getting pre-paid SIMs from AT&T, so check into that (the only other GSM network in the US is T-mobile, and their 3G network is not compatible with the iPhone, so you're stuck sorting out the SIM issues with AT&T or using EDGE-only on T-mobile.
Also, be aware that iPhone warranty service is only provided in the country of purchase.

  • Nokia 5800 and Virgin Mobile (Australia) data setu...

Has anyone here got their 5800xm working with Virgin Mobile Australia data plans?  I have been having much trouble getting the browsing to work on my phone and have spoken to Virgin a number of times.  Any help would be appreciated.  Perhaps there is a setting in the phone that I need to change etc that I don't know about?

The reason virgin won't give you the settings is because it's not a model they sell.
What you need to do is call them and tell them a different model. For example ask them for the settings for a nokia 2330 instead as they do sell that model and the settings will work on your 2220.
The settings may also work through the link below but i'm unable to test it.

  • 5800 v50 - screen orientation change taking EIGHT ...

When using the keyboard to enter text, if I switch from vertical to horizonal it is taking up to 8 seconds for the change to occur
It seems that "upgrading" to v50 has been a complete waste of time.
The performance is far worse than any other update I have applied v2x,v3x
How can I stop this from happening?
Bizarrely, whenever I tried to do a firmware update from v3x, it said none were available.
I did a hard factory reset [red green camera], then suddenly I am allowed to update to v50
    This is pretty poor behaviour.

There are several possible reasons for this, possibly RAM issues for instance. Many people have reported varying things about v50, ranging from it stabilized the phone to slowing it down to the point that it needs a format of either phone, memory card, or both depending on the nature of the problem. One of the most possible causes are the previous applications and settings we had.
My first advice would be to try removing your memory card to see if the current behaviour still would continue. If it works better after removing the card and rebooting (and using without card), then the problem lies in the card.
If it doesnt, you may have to do a hard reset. A hard reset is advisable if you encounter problems after update since we have to take into account new settings data and features which the firmware adds that may come into conflict with old settings and apps.

How to update the firmware of Nokia 5800 to v21
It is good news that firmware update for Nokia 5800 was released already. New firmware v.21 is available. If you also own a 5800, just follow the simple instruction to update your v20 or v10 to the newest v21.
Make sure that your battery is full (VERY IMPORTANT)
    1. Go to Dial screen and press *#0000#
    2. Press Options -> Check for updates
    3. Connect to the Internet with any APN (WiFi is recommended, however EDGE is fast enough for this). 4. Wait until the download finished. Phone will launch the dialog asking for update, just press Now. 5. Press Accept and Accept and the phone will be switched to Updating mode.
    6. It takes around 10 minutes to update, so be patient. After that, the phone will be rebooted automatically.
    7. Check by *#0000# again. Congrats! Your 5800 is now v21!
As I can see, there are so many improvements and worth to update for example, better camera functionality and the phone operates faster than previous version.
Best Settings for Video Playback on Nokia 5800 Xpress Music
Nokia 5800 as the multimedia phones makes you able to enjoy watching the video and music with it. The question is, how’s to do to convert that videos and what are the best setting used for. I have convert many videos into my phone, I found that most video files can play with this phone such as mp4, 3gp, rmvb and flv files. But of them plays well but some are not. After many tries, I finally got the best results for Nokia video files. My video in 5800 was full screen, high quality and sounds very well. Here are my settings:
    Video Resolution: 480*320
    Video Bitrate: 768 kbps
    Audio Bitrate: 128 kbps
Video Format: MPEG-4 (be sure not to use H264, as it’s not supported in the current firmware)
    Audio Format: MP3
    Audio Channels: 2 Channels
You can apply these settings above in whatever application you used when converting videos into 5800. Then I am sure you will get full screen, high quality and flawless video in your phone.
Settings for video playback on Nokia N97, N95, N85 and other Nokia phones.
Nokia N97: Video playback formats are 3GP formats, Flash Video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4; the video resolution is 360*640. Audio formats are AAC, M4A, MP3, WAV, WMA etc.
Nokia N96: video playback formats are 3GP, Flash video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, RealVideo, WMV 9; the video resolution is 240*320. Audio formats are AAC, MP3, WAV, WMA etc.
Nokia N95: video playback formats are MP4, 3GP. Video resolution is up to 640*480, audio format is AAC stereo.
Nokia N85: video playback formats are 3GP formats, Flash video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, and WMV. The resolution is 240*320. The audio formats are AAC, M4A, MP3, WAV and WMA etc.
OK, I will not list all settings of Nokia phones. If you are interested you may get more relative information on Nokia official website.
How to transfer video files into Nokia 5800
I have download some videos from video website such as Youtube, Google video. But I can’t watch these videos in my phone. As these videos were flv files, Nokia 5800 can’t play such videos. I use Internet Tablet Video Converter to convert it, but it shows “Unsupported Video File Type”. Then I got to know some best video converter  that seems professional for Nokia phone, I free download its trial version and tried it, and it works very well. Below are what I do:
Click Add button to add video files from your computer, set your videos according to the above settings and select Nokia 5800 Video MPEG-4 format for your video. Then just click convert button to start the conversion. After the conversion complete, you may watch these videos with Nokia 5800.
Also you may get music from video in this way. But pay attention to the format. As Nokia 5800 support mp3 audio format, you should select “MP3 – MPEG Layer-3 Audio (*.mp3)”.
How to convert DVD files into Nokia 5800
Obviously phones don’t have DVD drives, so to watch DVD on a phone you have to convert it into a video file on your PC then drag it into your phone. I also follow the above settings and convert DVD files into MPEG-4 video with Daniusoft DVD Ripper. the results are excellent.
After insert your DVD into the DVD Drive click the Open DVD button to upload DVD files on to this program. Click Settings button to set your videos according to the above settings I listed. Click Profile drop list to select “Nokia 5800 Video MPEG-4 (*.mp4)” format for your Nokia video. Then click Convert button to start the conversion. In few minutes the whole process will completed.
If you select audio format “MP3 – MPEG Layer-3 Audio (*.mp3)” you may also get music from DVD.
To transfer files into Nokia 5800
In the above tutorial I have explain you how to convert Nokia videos from DVD and other video files. Then you need to transfer these videos into your phone.
    1. Make sure your computer and phone are both switched on. Also make sure your 5800 have a memory card in its slot.
    2. Plug the small end of the microUSB cable into the phone’s USB socket, which s under a plastic flap in the top left corner.
    3. Plug the larger end of the microUSB cable into a USB port on your computer.
    4. On your 5800 it should ask which mode you wish to use. Choose “Mass Storage”.
    5. Open the memory card window (probably called “Removable Disk E:”), drag your video files into the video folder.
    6. After finished transfer files, do not disconnect the cable yet. You should make it safe to disconnect the cable. You may do this by click a small icon in the bottom right corner of the screen that appears when the phone is connected.
    7. After you have made the device safe to remove, you can unplug the cable at both ends.
Some useful tips to make the Nokia 5800's battery last as long as possible
Sometimes you may have to stop talking with your friend or watching videos with your phone as low power of your battery. It is more inconvenient if you are in travel and have no alternative battery. Here are some tips to make your phone battery last as long as possible when using telephone.
Do not switch the phone off. As switching a phone on uses far more battery power than simply leaving the phone on.
    Shut down unnecessary applications.
Turn down the 5800’s screen brightness to the lowest acceptable level.
Switch off your 5800’s screen when not in use.
Use headphones instead of speakers when listening to music or watching movies.
Avoid using the camera flash unnecessarily.
    Use 2G instead of 3G.
    Switch off Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi.'

  • 5800 XM lifestory - get your popcorn ready people

Hello everyone. This is my first post here as I don't know where else to put it. It is quite long as it will go through alot of problems I have occured and I dont know what to do so please help. It may give you soloutions to some of your problems too.
I recently got a Nokia 5800 XM with a 1 year music store download subscription card. I got this in August 2009. I started off using the phone as a rookie to Nokia s60 5th edition phones. All I could say was that I was greatly, very greatly, satisfied with the product. It exceeded all expectations and work flawlessly. Until the day when the phone did NOT recognise the 8gb memory card within and the photos in the gallery had their thumbnails missing (even though the photos were listed!). It was strange, this never happened before.
This happened a few months later from the day i got it. I turned the phone off, took out the battery, put the memory card in, put battery back in and turned it on. The splashscreen with NOKIA in blue came up (as the phone vibrates and then starts). After that these things happened (to keep it short):
A1) The first time i did this it asked for a lock code (i set it). I put it in and everything is OK.
A2) Next day I turned my phone on, entered code, went onto home screen and stayed STUCK on it. I tried pressing the menu button but it would take about 2 minutes to get to the menu 2 5 minutes to load any sort of application!
A3) Same day: I tried accessing the memory card from Windows XP computer (SP3). The computer froze and crashed.
A4) Same day: I tried accessing memory card from PC suite by choosing PC Suite mode from the phone. This worked for a day and then this too would crash and cause the computer to end the program.
A5) Same day: I tried accessing memory card by putting the phone into Mass Storage mode. This worked completely and I was able to back up some files (pics, songs, vids etc).
A6) Next day: As a test I tried accessing the memory card from a different computer. I got the same results as in (2), (3) and (4). This test made me conclude that the memory card was corrupted (which was pretty strange as I never did take it out of the phone ever since I got it!).
A7) The day after that I turned the phone on and guess what? It took about 20 minutes to get to the lock code and the touch screen was not responding to me pressing the numbers.
I made the decision to format the memory card by using my computer (windows XP). I could access it through Mass Storage mode so it made things alot easier. I formatted the memory card WITHOUT uninstalling ANY of the applications  that were originally installed to the memory card. This, of course, was a bad move but I was desperate as I needed the phone to work. If you ever do install lots of applications onto a memory card (install them one by one) you will notice that even the phone memory gets used up very slightly. What happened was that I had half a program on the phone (including all of my music Licenses, phone locks and registry for alot of programs and themes).
SO after the format I put the card back into the phone. It recognised it and showed the message that said something like, "Readying memory card". This took a few minutes but after that it went. I then immediately updated my phone to the latest firmware (which was v21 at that time) and put my backed up files onto it again. That fixed a whole load of errors from before.
A few months later a few of the thumbails for my pictures went missing again. The day this happened the phone became slow and unresponsive too. I decided to update the phone's applications and firmware again. This, again, fixed the problem but not for long.
In November 2009 my phone was slowly 'failing':
B1) It would randomly switch off even during a use of any application and even when I was making a call.
B2) NEW: every time my phone was left on its own for about 5 minutes the screen would only display lines of colour, not text or anything related to the GUI of the phone. Just lines. I noticed that the phone was stone-cold at that point. So a little heat (rubbing it in hands or leaving it in my warm pockets) would solve it and it did.
B3) Making phone calls would take AGES! It took about 5 minutes for the sound that shows a connection to the other phone would come up!
B4) No dial tones - sometimes when I dialled a number there would be no 'beep-beep' of the integers being put in (regardless if I was in Silent profile or General with the volume put at maximum)
B5) Internet fail - the phone would not connect to any sort of connection wether it be mobile internet to any Wifi spot.
B6) Transparent images - web graphics and transparent images that should normally blend in witht the background had, for some reason, a grey filling. This never happened before and I took note of it.
B7) Facebook malfunction - when the new 'touchscreen site' for facebook came out, I was enthralled to see a site that uses the functions of the phone only (just touchscreen). However it worked fine for a few weeks but after that if I clicked on a name of one of my friends it would 'glitch' Basically the same page would load (before I clicked on someone) and the header of the page (that said 'Facebook' with the tabs 'home', 'profile', 'friends' and 'inbox' in a blue background) would all be DUPLICATED to the bottom of the page. This would happen again and again and they would act like separate 'processes' or 'pages' in one page only.
B8) Facebook transparent glitch - the new touch site has a notifications area on the top-left of the screen. Normally it would show an image of a whiteboard with lines on it if there were no notifications. If there are it would show up as a red square with a number in it showing how many. This happens but the number has white 'cut outs' like scissors cut around it harshly leaving jaggy edges and pixels and NO transparency.
B9) Connection to WLAN lost - this happened between 20 seconds and 30 minutes of connecting to ANY wifi spot.
I checked for firmware updates and updated to v31 or v38 (one of those two). This fixed problems (3), (6) and (8) for another few months. After that I was happy with the phone even though it still had all the other problems.
January 2010. A new year, a new hope and, of course, new dilemmas
Phone was fine until the memory card got corrupted. How did that happen? I took a picture of my new barbecue machine and when it says 'processing image' underneath the battery DIED and the phone shut off. *sigh* I charged the phone and went to that picture that I took (when the battery died) and it had no thumbnail. This was expected. I opened it and it said 'corrupt file'. After that I deleted it but it couldnt delete it! I tried deleting it through 'File mgr.' and 'X-Plore'. Didn't work. Tried it through windows through USB mass storage. Computer crashed.  Took MMC out of computer. Computer magically fixed! Corrupt memory card. I didnt try it on another computer but I was sure the card had 'gone bad'. So this time I first backed up the stuff I wanted from there, uninstalled everything from the phone (except for some themes which I forgot) and then formatted the card.
After the format I realised I missed the sisx themes to uninstall. They had not gone from the themes list but It showed that they were installed to the phone memory - something that I had NOT done before the format. I installed everything to the memory card.
I slowly worked out (over the weeks) that everytime I installed something to the memory card there would be some sort of 'remnants' left behind after a format. I got this because after the 2 formats I got another problem and a solution:
C1) Music player custom Equalisers - all had been deleted after the format and there were none in the list. However when I went to make a new setting and pressed 'OK' after choosing a name for it and setting the levels it would sound as if all the levels were back to 0. I rechecked and found that the name was saved as Preset 1 and NOT what I chose it to be (I named it 'My Own') and the levels were, in fact, back to 0. What I worked out was that if I wanted them back then I would just leave the name how it came up (Preset 1, Preset 2) and leave the equaliser levels on 0. Guess what it would be saved as?? The first one in the list before the format! It was called 'Pop my way' and the equaliser levels were exactly the same as before the format. I did the same thing 5 more times and I recovered all of my old custom equaliser levels and settings.
C2) This is EXACTLY the same for the notes application. I had a full list of notes before the format and a blank list after the format. I just entered a blank note and they came up magically as my old ones with all the info' saved on them!
February 2010 - I made a habit of checking for updates every week. The last update was on 29th December 2009 (software version 40.0.005 custom version 40.0.005.C03.01). Ever since then there had been no software updates. Just application updates. I updated my Nimbuzz application and there was something called Scribble Powered by Python. It was a drawing tool (4 MB?!?!) and turned your phone into a mini version of MS Paint. Rubbish! Didn't need that. Didn't install it. Got errors installed it and error gone.
March 2010 - Unexpected breakdown of phone. Same problems as (A7, B2, B7, B8. B9) and a few new ones:
D1) I went onto the Download! app. It wanted update. I gave it update. It changed to Ovi store. Looked nice, a bit sluggish and hard on the RAM but it was fine. I downloaded lots of stuff from there, it was a great app! UNTIL the dreaded update of version 1.05(611) which installed halfway and then somehow, unexpectedly, the progress bar would stop and then it would say 'update error' and close, leaving me blinking foolishly at the screen. I tried again and again and again. Same update, same error. Now there is a new one out and I cant update to that either because it says 'Update error'
D2) Nokia Music Store application for my phone now cannot even get to the main screen from where i can search or choose tracks from. The only place I can get to is the store selector from which you choose what country you are from. If I click on UK (where I live) it displays an error message saying, "Music Store: Unable to perform operation". I had this error before on the web browser but it soon went later on. No matter how many times I click on it the same message will keep on coming and coming. I even tried the Music store from my PC which leads to the next problem.
D4) Nokia music store for windows XP. Now updated to Nokia Ovi Player cannot and will not recognise, connect and sync the music from my phone in any of the USB modes the phone is on (PC Suite, Media Transfer, Mass Storage, Image transfer << NONE OF THOSE) this is something completely new and did NOT happen before the formatting of the memory card! The phone isnt even recognised in Music Store/Ovi Player and asks for a phone to be connected whereas PC Suite/Ovi Suite recognises it and fully works. I even tried pressing the 'Sync' button in Ovi Suite on the music page and it says something like 'Could not transfer'.
D5) The ovi store application will NOT update from Ovi Suite. The error message given says: "Internal error - could not update ovi store".
    <<<<<<<<<<ALMOST FINISHED PEOPLE, JUST 2 MORE THINGS>>>>>>>>>>
After all this rubbish I decided to do a full master phone reset to the phone memory only. I took out the memory card and did a hard reset. Everything back to normal. Updated everything on the phone. Put memory card back in..... 'readying memory card'... the smart thing was that it scanned the memory card and automatically installed ANY sisx, sis, JAR files automatically and put all the media files into the library automatically. Hence the name smartphone. I, on the other hand, didnt wait for it to finish as it was taking a good hour to do so and I tried cancelling it, tried to turn the phone off, took the card out and then put it back in (which worked but restarted the 'card-readying process') so i took the battery out as the phone went stuck on the readying bit, put it back in and turned it on. The apps were installed but only some of them were and the had their icons missing. This was expected as I had force-stopped the installation processes. I manually installed everything and all was back to normal.
And now, I am here writing to you people to help me out because I have almost all the problems listed back into operation and I dont know what to do. I am not giving up yet - it took me a year of torture to get to this stage and I think I might win this battle
So... any ideas for salvation?? lol

That was something to read! - I don't know any exact solution to your problems.
It might be your phones hardware, might be a false fw install, might be a corrupted memorycard or even a faulty memorycard making problems again and againg. And you might wanna take it to a Nokia care point for an inspection.
But what I would check out is those themes and apps youre mention.
I have both n97 and 5800 with no such problems, but I once had similar issues with my n95 8gb after installing a couple of "homemade" themes from different websites, zedge.com amongst others.
I use nimbuzz on both of my phones, but have no trouble with it, but there could be other problems.
Try also not to force stop any installation as things can get corrupted even though it seems ok in the first place.

  • So many wireless questions in my move to australia--HELP

I'm moving to australia and I have many questions--please forgive the length of this. First I had been waiting for the Palm Centro to move to Verizon because my Tungsten E is dying. Now that I'm moving I'm going to need to buy a cell phone in Australia--versus trying to get an unlocked one here I think. I see that they have Centro, but not with the big server Vodafone, which leads me back to the iphone. I avoided it because I don't want to pay for all the services I don't need. All I want is the PDA to link with my iBook G4 (still with Panther) easily to have all my contacts from my Tungsten E. I hear Palm may even be discontinuing the PDA's all together so I really do need to make the move. Yet the other big PDA, the blackberry doesn't sync easily with the mac from what I hear and read. Anybody have suggestions about a good solid phone/pda that I can use in Australia with my iBookG4? Can I spend just $199 here on an Iphone bring it with me, hook it up there with Vodafone and just use it as a phone/pda without any of the internet features?
Second question is related to communication when I first land in Australia to my husband in LA. I was told that I could use my ibook at any airport with Skype. Is this true? How? I have airport for our wireless SBC modem here, but Im guessing I would need some special USB unit. but is that the way to go. I was thinking to buy an international Mobal phone for $50 just to have for the first few days until I get internet set up over there and can start trying to figure out skype? I suppose I could try a phone card from a payphone but $50 seems like a small price to pay for communication in the beginning...unless there is a brilliant idea I hadn't considered (hence my writing here)
I am really clueless here. any suggestions, websites, links I should consider would be very appreciated. More than I can say since there are a million other details about this move that are taking up space in my head.
    thank you in advance.

Same thing happened to me and I did a reset twice but the problem doesn't go away. It's Apple's video player that has problems. You don't want to reset it every time it happens, right? Get another video player, any player will do. I got flex player for free. Now I don't have any problems playing my videos any more.

  • 5800 freezes on start-up and doesn't recognise ser...

    hi,
i have a 5800 XM which i got from vodafone last year.   I have a problem when starting up the phone.  First the vodafone start-up screen/symbol doesn't come up. then the phone manages to load the main screen but it has no vodafone symbol, no signal and none of the buttons work, including the on/off button.  plus the back light stays on.  this has been happening on and off from when i recieved the phone.  I have up dated the software to the latest version, with no joy.  i was able to solve the problem by taking the battery and sim card out and re-starting the phone but this hasn't worked this time.  vodafone are refusing to fix the problem.  any one else had this problem or know what is causing it? thanks

You could try returning the phone back to its out of the box state by carrying out the deep reset. Click here for the procedure. Make sure you back up your phone beforehand because you will lose all your data. Try to backup as little as possible because you may reintroduce the problem when you restore.

  • Nokia 5800 Questions.

I posted this in the nokia 5800 problems topic but it actually wasn't a problem and also it got ignored. So I decided to post it in a new topic.
I just bought this phone 4 days ago and I am in total love with it Now the pros of this phone are too much to list but there are a few cons which slight bugged me.I have version11.0.008 from the begining and have not faced a single problem - no lag , no peculiar behaviour Now I have a few queries that I was hoping to get answered on.
    1. Is it possible to add more stuff below the Search word in the Shortcut bar theme. Maybe a Calendar memo reminder or anything. I already know of the music now playing bar that comes there during tracks but other than that are there nothing else to be done?
    2. Is there any way to use the 2nd camera?
    3. In the silent mode , for some odd reason I might have missed a call ( i.e did not feel the vibration ) Now is there a option to turn on so that the phone will emit little vibrations after a period of time to remind me or notify me of a miss call? I have this on my razrv3i so missing it now The menu button just flickrs on off to notify of the missed call but is there no way to know I have a miss call without taking out the phone from the case and looking at it?
    4. I heard theres a new update to v11.0.009 - But my NSU doesn't show it . I was wondering is it that necessary to update to this firmwire at this moment? I live in Bangladesh.
Thats about it The 5800 is a exta ordinary phone and I have not regretted my purchase yet and have no hope of doing so. It costed me around 272.74 Euros. The price to quality ratio is mind bogling

    1. The Calender memo will show by itself if you have any entry made in the Calender.. It will come up as "Next Entry on ..." a few days in advance and the Actual details a day before...
    2. Open Camera application.. Goto Options -- > Use secondary camera..
    3. There are 3rd party applications like T-Reminder for this.. It has options of Sound/Light/Vibration reminders for missed calls / SMSs / other events at user defined interval...
    4. Firmware versions are different for different regions.. Connect the phone thru' OVI Suit to a computer and check for the latest available for your phone. It says that version upgrade is for good but there are newer complains associated with them. So its up to you whether to take that risk or not.. If you are satisfied with the current version so be it..

  • Problem with Nokia 5800 Xpress Music

Hello. I have a Nokia 5800 Xpress Music for about a year now and been taking great care of it. I don't know why but a while ago it started freezing at times when i would try to turn on the camera..had to multiple times restart the phone and remove the battery in order to make it work (In the open applications menu it would show the camera running but you wouldn't be able to use it). Then i noticed that the two touch buttons it has in the main screen (dialing and phonebook shortcuts) wont work either, no matter how many times i press them nothing happens. Same goes for the Green and Red button on the left and the right side of the phone (Accept/Decline buttons), they won't work either when i'm on the main screen (wallpaper), they do work in the main menu though. I tried resetting my phone to manufacturer settings but nothing happened. What is wrong with my phone? Can anybody help me with it very please?

    Welcome to the forum!
When you say restored "factory settings" I don't know whether you mean that you backed up essential data then keyed in *#7370# followed by 12345 (default Nokia lock code unless altered by yourself); I would remove any memory card first and see if any difference before restoring device.
