Taking Notes

Thinking about getting one. One of the things I'd like to do with it is taking notes in meetings, etc... I played with one for ~10min in the Apple store yesterday, and I think the on-screen keyboard isn't that great for keeping up with the pace of a meeting (though, maybe I would just need to get used to it...).
Also, I'm thinking it may be easier to use a stylus for scribbling notes. Is this an option with either the basic Notes app or any other? Do any apps have handwriting conversion?

Tablet?  Do you mean like a notepad or notebook?
TextEdit is included as a part of Mac OS X.  There are plenty of other word processor programs available- Microsoft Word, Apple's Pages, OpenOffice, to name a few

I'm looking for a good note app with pen function for taking notes ( in English and German ) during business trips. Can anyone help?

Really sorry to hear about this, particularly when you're putting your life on the line. But Apple cannot track your iPhone in any way unless you had set up Find My iPhone prior to it being lifted.
It's possible that AT&T might be able to do something, but it's probably that they cannot track it, or will not without a request from an authorized law enforcement agency, but rather would only disable the device. You'll have to try and find a way to contact AT&T directly and ask if they can do anything to help you; the chances of any AT&T employee in a position to help you spotting this thread it pretty small.
Good luck, stay safe, and come home soon.
    Regards.

  • Anyone have any idea which is the best application for taking notes and essay writting?

im starting my first year of university and i was wondering what would the best application for taking notes on be? and also whats the easiest, most reliable and effective way to transfer documents off the ipad? Any thoughts on printing aswell?
will be appreciating all the help i can get!

You're going to get as many answers to that question as there are people to answer it. You don't state if you want to take handwritten notes or if you will be typing. For handwritten notes, I really like Noteshelf. It has lots of export options, my favorite being to Evernote (which you might want to look into as well for storage). For typing notes, I'd go with Pages, Documents to Go or QuickOffice. For working with PDFs, I like PDF Expert.
I've recently heard good things about Note Anytime. It is free for a limited time, so it'st probably worth downloading to try out.

  • Taking Notes within Keynote presentation

Has anyone found a way to take notes within a Keynote Presentation (like in Powerpoint)? I know there is the comment option, but i wonder about a plug-in or something allowing taking notes within the slides.

I use Keynote to take notes in meetings all the time. Just create a slide for each topic point, then create text blocks or bullets as needed. If you need to instead make notes on an already created presentation, it's as easy as creating a text box. Highlighting can be handled, too, but a bit slower than a more dedicated app.

I Recommend the iPad Mini Retina, it's not to big, and not to small. It has the speed of the iPad Air due to it having the same 64 Bit chips. ( And it's a lot cheaper!!) I have one myself and it's perfect for my school work!

  • Taking Notes In Ibook's PDF files (Ipad)

Although it is possible to take notes in the Books presented in Ibooks, which is for my purpose a very nice feature this function does not function does not be present in the pdf files. And since 98% of the stuff I use are pdf files (music books) I did not succeed in taking notes within the files. Converting the pdf files into an epub format made a complete mess of the indexing and the size of the sheets so it was no longer possible to select to use the books in a proper way. So I'm stuck. Will there be an update from Ibooks to take notes also in pdf files from Ibooks?

    Thanks pogopossum,
I'm using now Goodreader. This has also the advantage of a good interlinking to other available documents.
This is also not functioning with ibooks. Goodreader has some drawbacks compared to ibooks.
You cannot recognize the books easily since no frontpages are present and you need to scroll more to find the correct document. A annoying thing is that once you enlarge the index and jump to a linked page that page will show up in the enlarged fashion. So you always need to resize the new page. This problem is not present in ibooks. An enormous good feature of Goodreader is the easy and many ways to import files.

  • Best Pen for taking notes on the twist

Hi, I'm curious at what pen can be best used for taking notes on my Twist.  When I use OneNote it won't let me use my finger or the rubber tipped stylus to write with, but instead requires the use of the keyboard, very annoying when in class.  I've been struggling with this for several months now.  I'm unsure what the difference is between a capacitive pen vs a digitizer pen?

Thanks, that's what I've heard from other sites, but I figured other Twist owners may have different opinions.  Have you used any other apps that use the Jot pro?  I'm curious as what apps are available for use with it before I purchase it, which will hopefully be tonight

  • I ALREADY bought iWork on my imac... [any tips on taking notes?]

i just bought a new imac a couple months ago and now i plan to buy a macbook in a couple weeks. i need Pages '08 on the macbook to take notes, but I just bought iWork for my imac.
    1) is there anyway to legally transfer the program without having to buy twice?
    2) better yet, i only need iWork so i can easily take notes in class, but can anyone recommend a better program to use for taking notes?

Always read the end user license agreement that flashes up when you first install your program. Usually the first or second paragraph details your installation rights. iWork may legally be installed on only one computer at a time though the program does no checking to see if you have installed it on more than one computer. Unlike some companies we can mention, Apple doesn't assume its users are criminals. The more typical license allows you to install software on more than one computer (often stated as one desktop and one notebook) but only permits you to use one computer at a time.

  • How to get rid of timestamp when taking notes in preview?

    Hi,
I frequently annotate (using the 'take note' function) when reading pdfs and I would like to get the date and timestamp off of the notes when I am taking them. Is there any setting where I can "disable" the date and timestamp from appearing? So that way, the notes will only have my notes on there and not the date and time at which I took down those notes?
    Thank you!
    Bryan

you can prevent your name from appearing but not the date (Preview > Preferences > General)
to remove; select the date, time and delete (trebleclick and press delete)

  • Taking notes in PDF

I want to create a digital manual for seminar participants who will only have Adobe reader. I wanted to create a manual they could take notes in without changing the materials I wrote in the manual. To do this I wanted to create a narrow margin so they could take notes in the right hand margin using their computers. A friend of mine created such a manual a few years ago with Adobe Acrobat Pro and it worked well. People could type in notes and save them without being able to change the other materials in the manual.
I've tried to do this but cannot figure out how. Has anyone tired this before in Acrobat X Pro?

Why not just provide copies of the output PDF of your manual and, if necessary, provide individuals with Adobe Reader X.
Adobe Reader X, out of the box, supports use of both Sticky Note and Highlight annotations.
Sticky Notes are specifically there for taking/making notes.
If the Highlight is used it has a pop-up available into which notes may be made.
Annotations, unless "flattened" using Acrobat Pro, are not part of the PDF page content and will not alter the content.
If you should want to "distribute" Adobe Reader visit http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/distribution.html
Other than your upfront "sweat equity" a no cost solution.
    Be well...

  • Auto formatting when taking notes

the auto formatting during note taking is one of the most annoying things about word, so i was not so happy when i ran into even more trouble with pages. can anyone help....
I will start with a line and then add bullet points to that line, indented by pressing tab once.
however. when i want to stop adding bullets and go to the next line it will not allow me to go all the way back to the left. i have to start the next line where the next bullet point would begin begin. i press delete to get rid of the bullet and then press it again to try to go all the way to the left, but it just brings me to the end of the previous line.
does this make sense? is there just a shortcut that i am missing? i tried it at an apple store to make sure it wasn't just my machine, and it did the same thing there. the guy helping me was also confused. hopefully one of you can help me.

    Jimi,
I think I understand what you're talking about. You're saying, if I've got it right, that you're using the Bullet list style to take notes. After the last one, you still find that it's indenting for the Bullet style, even though you don't want to be using that style anymore.
The way to fix it is to click on one of the paragraph style, like Free Form. That should move your cursor back to start of the line, assuming the style you clicked on is defined to move it there.
Let us know if this helps.

  • Notes, taking notes, graphing, audio recordings, etc

Is there a good to great note taking app for mac os? Something that makes it easy to do quick graphs and record audio and add text notes with the keyboard... dream app for a student is what I'm after, and, no, Curio and Jarnal are not it. Thanks.

The Windows version of Office 2004 has this application called One Note. On the MacOSX Office 2004, you can open Word and switch to View / Notebook Layout, which is similar in functionality to One Note.
Then, there are apps from www.omnigroup.com They were once bundled with Tiger on Powerbooks (at least).
    I hope this help.

  • In Need of a good Notes App for taking Notes in Mathematics.

I am a college student and do everything on my iPad now. I take notes on my iPad, but in math I need to draw my notes. Anyone else take math notes on their iPad 2? What app works best for you? I've bought three different apps and they are difficult to use. I use a stylus to draw math notes as well.
    Please assist.
    Thanks

You can try good notes. I've heard rave reviews about it. Here's a link to the free version to try: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/goodnotes-free-notes-pdf/id483679173?mt=8
Notes Plus has shape recognition and great reviews, but supposedly its performance is sub-par. It also offers a purchase that will allow you to convert your handwriting into searchable text.

  • I need to take a lot of notes in my daily customer/sales meetings. The very reason for buying an ipad is to try how I can avoid taking notes and then again typing them in emails etc. What are the market leading apps which can help me to avoid this?

Are there any apps which helps resolving this? Say as for example it can turn my wiriting to some ascii text and then it becomes highly reusable.
Advanced features can be that it understands drawings and convert them into separate jpegs which can be reused as well
I need some suggestions. I think sales perople who use ipad a lot can give really good avice

    Hi AReyes42,
Given you had just purchased this phone 20 days before it became defective, I of course can understand you being upset by the described experience. I honestly wish the representatives you spoke to had been clearer in their advice to you.
Our return or exchange period for contract based phones is 14 days from the date of purchase. After that timeframe has past any defects or damage would need to be addressed by any coverage on the phone. Your phone has two types of coverage. It has its manufacturer’s warranty and the Geek Squad Protection (GSP) plan.
The manufacturer’s warranty should cover any defects within the first year of owning the phone; while your GSP would cover beyond that time, and any covered damage within the first year. Since you are claiming the unit is defective it should be covered by LG’s warranty, and you will need to work with them to get the phone repaired or replaced.
We could request a refurbished replacement under your GSP, but per the terms of your GSP you would be charged a service fee, and for a smartphone the service fee is $150. Since LG should not be charging to repair or replace your phone, under their warranty, I once again highly recommend you work with them towards getting this resolved.
I have filed a formal complaint on your behalf, and if you do have any questions for me please post back to this thread.
    Thanks for posting,
