Tango-Green icon theme screwed my home folder!

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show. … tent=38211
I switched to the tango-green icon theme.  Ever since, my home folder has been screwed up.  Half the folders are at the top, the other half at the bottom after a mile of scrolling.  Also, the little picture that's usually on the Desktop folder is chilling at a random place (not even on an icon, weird).  This fixes itself when I switch back to the standard theme.  I really like this icon set, though.  Is there a way to fix this?

Hi Martijn,
See if any of this applies...

  • Why Does OS X Change the Display of my Home folder?

    Howdy,
I prefer an icon display of my HOME folder with 32x32 bit icons and a fairly tight spacing. I set this using Finder's Show View Options (Cmd-J) menu item. this seems to stick for a while, even through boots, but, at some point, it goes back to 24x24 bit icons with maximum icon spacing. Why won't the OS respect my display options in my own HOME folder?
    Good Luck,
    Herb Schulz

The .DS_Store file should be owend and accessible by you, but if not for some reason then sudo will be needed. That is why I included it in the command.
The settings in .DS_Store files can be inherited from parent folders as you browse the system, so one option is to remove all of them and have the system recreate them from scratch. There are a number of ways to do this, but an easy one is to use a tool like OnyX. In OnyX, go to the Maintenance > Rebuild section and uncheck everything except "Appearance of folders' content," and then click the Execute button.

  • My home folder and my Hard disk icon have dissapeared from my mac. How do I get them back?

My home folder and my Hard disk icon have dissapeared from my mac. How do I get them back?

Try a restart. If the problem is the same, try deleting the com.apple.finder.plist.
Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command
and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist.  Move the .plist to your desktop.
Relaunch Finder (command - option - esc) and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • Home folder icon has changed ??

My home folder icon has changed from the house to a folder with an applications symbol on it??? The name is still the same(my name)
Can I change it back??? And if so this won't effect any programmes etc will it? Have read somewhere that you should never re name the home folder???

    GavRich79,
You should be able to, get info on your home folder. Click on it then type Command + i, you will see a little icon in the top left click it and press the delete key. Although I am curious to why it has changed?
No it shouldn't effect your programs, and No you should never rename your home folder. If there are any changes to any of your programs what would happen is they would act like they did the first time you opened them. All customizations would not exist as well as all content you added would be gone.
    Hope that helps,
    Weston

Open Finder. Under Preferences > Sidebar > Devices > check Hard disks.
Navigate to your home folder from "Macintosh HD" (or whatever the name of your boot volume is) in the finder. Set the view to column.
Once you reach the path of your home folder, select it, hold down the key combination option + command and drag the alias to your desktop.

  • Home Folder Icon gone

The title says it all. The icon is gone, and it appears as a normal folder now. I've looked in the System folder, and apparently the Home Folder icon is just gone. I don't know if it got deleted or something. Can someone please help?

I'm not sure if you can find the actual icon on your hard disk or not? If you can, just open that file in preview, do 'command-a' (select all) and then 'command-c' (copy to the clipboard.
Click on your (iconless) Home folder, and press 'command-i' (or control-click 'get info').
See the small folder in the very top left of the 'get info' window. Click it once, it should be surrounded by a blue border. Now hit 'command-v' to past the home folder icon on the clipboard in place.
If you don't have the icon, go to
     > System Preferences > Users & Groups
Click the '+' sign to make a new account. Go to the home folder of that account and do 'get info'. Click on the tiny icon in the left, do 'command-c' (copy). Open Preview. In Preview menu, choose 'New from clipboard'. Save the file to your 'shared' folder (Hard disk > Users > Shared). Go back to your own account, open the preview file and do the first part of the procedure I gave you above (i.e., command-a, command-c, go to your home folder, 'get info', click the icon to get the blue border and hit command-v).

  • Created Multiple Users & Home Icon Is A Plain'ol Folder Icon?

so i finally took the advice of every OSX security article i've ever read, and created a separate Admin user account. After doing so, i noticed that the 'home' icon in my sidebar, and in my user folder has changed to a regular folder icon. how can i fix this or change it back?

    Hi Aldo!
If you navigate to Computer > HD > Users: isn't there still a Home folder for the original Administrative Account, with the House icon?
When you are logged in with the second account, I believe it is normal to see the Home, appear as a folder, rather than a House icon.
I think there can only be one account with a House icon.

  • Tango-icon-theme gone?

I just ran my desktop build script and I've noticed tango-icon-theme is gone from the repos. What's happened?

I've just noticed that http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Icon_Library is back.
I don't know if this means we'll get tango-icon-theme back into the repos, if this is important or not..
I just thought I'd mention it as I noticed the site was back when checking something else.

  • [Solved] I have Tango (Tango icon theme), but GTK ignore it

I have set "Tango" in config file of GTK (.gtkrc-2.0):
    gtk-icon-theme-name = "Tango"
    and installed tango-icon-theme form AUR:
    /usr/local/share/icons/Tango/index.theme (I see it!)
but PCManFM ignore it when I start new thread... (GTK greeter and etc.) Installation was so simple: ./configure; make; sudo make install... What can I do?
    Thank you!

  • Makepkg modprobes nvidia on tango-icon-theme

    Hi,
I wanted to install tango-icon-theme but it fails when I run makepkg:
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'nvidia': Operation not permitted
This message is repeated around once per second until I kill it.
Of course it fails in doing this because I don't run makepkg as root. But why is it doing modprobe?

In my installation it currently provides mainly ...devices/multimedia-player-... icons.

  • [SOLVED]Gnome icon themes - folder icons

    I think it belongs here.
I made some folder icons for  retrofukation icons theme and tried to apply them as documents, music etc. folder icons, but did not succeed. Then I thought the theme was written wrong, and tried to apply 100% working (in that u-distro) Humanity theme, but with the same effect.
Then I updated the system, but nothing happened.
Then I googled for a while, but found nothing worth reading - maybe because of bad search query...
Anyway, does anyone know how to make 'places' icons work?
//I run a standalone wm and use lxappearance. When I downloaded and tried gnome-control-center, it did not help as well.
    P.S. The icons:

Yes, that works just fine, thank you! xdg-user-dirs was not installed, because I did not install the whole gnome. I installed it and updated the directories (xdg-user-dirs-update) and now the icons look just like I want.
But I have a couple of folders (like ~/Distros or ~/Source) for which I would like to set custom icons too.
So I have ~/.icons/retrofukation/scaled/places/folder-source.png and ~/Source directory. Any chance to set an icon for it?

I was trying to rename my home folder I then restart my computer and now all my stuff are gone. Can anyone help?

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, provide /Users/ as the path, and move the files to your current home folder. Alternatively, open the Accounts or Users & Groups pane of System Preferences, unlock it, control-click your account, choose Advanced Options, and change the path to the home folder.
