Double-tapping to switch between or clear running apps is not working with iPhone 4s.
when I double tap to close out or switch between running functions, it does nothing ever since yesterday. I have the most current update since last week and the home button works for all other purposes so it's not broken. Now my battery is draining because I cannot shut off running apps. Please help!
Hi Kate,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’re running into a multitasking issue that’s preventing you from switching between apps or forcing them to quit. Try restarting your iPhone, as shown in the article linked below.
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If that doesn’t do it, you can always try restoring the iPhone to factory settings too.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support

Do I have to run Apps in b/round? - How to "Close an App" quickly?
1. Is there any way to "toggle off" background Apps? I have no need to keep newspapers, books, games, etc running in the back only to have to "Double tap the home button, hold the icon till it wiggles, tap the negative sign, close the bottom panel" - useless wate of time.
2. If no, any shorter way to close an app other than the method described above?
How about just flick up on the Home screen to get to the running apps bar (what do you call that bar anyway?) instead of having to click the home button twice?
(You wouldn't believe how much noise that stupid button makes when it clicks when your partner is sleeping and you are reading in bed!)
3. At the very least can't Apple just make the background Apps already have the little negative sign on them when they come up (like the close program "x" PC programs now have)? It would at least save the "hold till it wiggles step".
4. Don't even get me started on the Mute button that only mutes system sounds (which I have turned off anyway) yet makes be do a whole bunch of steps to be able to screen lock! Can you say "user selectable function"?+1. Is there any way to "toggle off" background Apps? And unnecessary. Maybe once/week you would want to enter the multitasking tray just in case you have a thousand or so apps in the background.

Again, there's no reason to close an app.

I have to repeat that there's no reason to close an app.

I don't have the time to give all the reasons why that would be undesirable.

Don't get me started regarding an issue where Apple did exactly what I had hoped they would do. -
How do close running apps?
You still double tap the home button and the apps are lined up across the screen. Swipe up on the app preview thumbnail - drag it up off of the screen - and that will close the app.

When i tap "update" on an app, or try and download a new app i get the loading wheel for around a second then it goes back to showing "update" and does nothing. Any solutions for this? This is relevant to an iPhone 5S running iOS 8
If you're really running iOS 8, you should be posting in the Developer's Forum, as you well know since you signed an NDA when you signed up for the Developer's program.

Anyone here use the nike+ running app with the ipod touch?
i just got the new ipod touch 5g and wanted to get the nike+ running app because it's free, the alternate would be nike+ sensor is $20 extra.
so i wanted to know:
1. how accurate the nike+ running app is in term of recording distance? since i don't have the iphone i wont be able to use the gps function and im not sure if that'll be affecting the distance measurement.
2. how accurate is the speed tracker? same as above, since the ipod doesn't have a gps function.
3. in the setting for the app, what does it mean to reset calibration?i just used it for the first time. it recorded that i ran for 2.5 miles, i went home and checked an online map and i only actually ran 2.03 miles. if i calibrate it, will my future runs be more accurate? also, what if one day i decide to run at a different pace or i walk a lot more, will this affect the distance recorded?

With the iO7 and the apps running in background. Can you turn thescreen shot of the running app off? If you have read an email or text or been on a site they are all still open and sitting there for display unless you go in and close app after use?
Thank you, I am up to speed with the closing of the app and swipping up but I wondered if you must have a preview window of the open app or you can close that feature. I don't like that the last text I read and email I read is there in full display?
Hope that makes sense? -
Coreservicesd crash (com.apple.LaunchServices) screws up most running apps
I've been seeing crashes in the coreservicesd process that screw up most running apps and force me to restart the entire machine. When this happens, the Dock disappears and then reappears showing no running apps. The menu bar also gets stuck on a single app, even when I try to switch to another window with the mouse. The symptoms are very similar to those described at http://discussions.apple.com/thread/3289125, but I am on a MacBook Air running Lion 10.7.1.
Here's what gets logged to the system console:

Running apps--not wasting data
i am new to the iphone, but love apple and their products. Could someone try and explain how app's and the data plan works? I have the 2g data plan, and do not want to go over. When i click the top button to get out of the app, or the home button does that automatically shut the app off and stop streaming data? same thing with the internet?
thanks so muchOn April, Apple introduced Multitasking. Multitasking permits the following:
* Fast App Switching - The app is paused and resumes when opened at the home screen or in the bar.
* Background tasks like Music - Plays music locally or over the internet
* Background location - Apps such as social networking or Navigation can run the GPS/Tower track modules until the app is force closed or task complete
* Transfer continual - Uploading or Downloading a file in the background until done
Double tap to bring up your running apps. You can choose your app there or even force close it to end file transfers and thensome.
* Hold Home to wiggle the apps
* Press the END button to close them
Internet Apps (Music, News, Social, Navigation, and a few others) run in KBs or MBs in task running. If you are worried you'll go up to 2GB, use very little in apps like quick MMORPGs or avoiding chat rooms. -
I just upgraded to iOS7 and now am no longer able to kill running apps using what was well know sequence
1. Double-click the Home button to see all Inactive Apps
2. Hold the Apps down for a second or two until you see the minus sign
3. Tap the minus sign to close App
Now when I do this I can get to the app but no longer appears manageable.
Its said that very few apps run in the background, alas this is probably a rumor as I find my battery charge is greatly shortenned unless I kill the apps that are in the background.Double-tap the home button and then swipe UP on the open app preview window that is above the app icon.

why can im not run apps on my ipad 2, they were downloading to itunes and synchrosied to the ipad but if i will run they do not start.
does someone knows a solution as i have my ipad new and it is my first apple product. thanksIn addition to King Penguin's advice you could try closing all the apps in the task bar just in case an app that may be running is causing you problems. It's worth a try if nothing else is working.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. -
My ipad run apps automatic open and close
Run apps auotmatic my ipad how i solve it
THANKS for your prompt reply Bluetooth is off in my laptop and IPhone.. and in fact the reset is the only thing that can make it back to normal. But for a lil while. I wonder if it is the touch, or the home botton... both things are very expensive to replace, so I wouldn't like to spend $$ and continue having the prob.....

I'd like to add snow leopard to my macbook pro which runs leopard 10.5.8 in order to run apps. I do not want to mess with my original system and risk losing data. Is that possible by just going to utilities and partioniong my drive?
15 is probably enough. And if you kept your home dir in a separate volume then you could use your same home dir on both leopard and snow leopard. This is one of the reasons I recommend keeping the home dir on a separate volume. Very convenient for switching OS's or needing to use a (backup) copy of the current OS.
