Tap to Click - Second Finger

This is a suggestion to improve Trackpad.
An enhancement on "Tap to click" opstion.
While we are navigating pointer with a finger (which may be index or middle finger) when we want to click on an item, we have two options:
A- Push hard on trackpad until we click
B- Raise our finger an tap Trackpad.
My suggestion is we use second finger and tap on Trackpad to make the click action.

Thank you! This was driving me crazy too.
I'm not even sure why I'd want to "smart zoom" on a laptop. I hope that at some point Apple will back off on the idea that the mac needs to look and act exactly like the iphone.

  • Windows 8.1 Two Finger Tap Right Click

So, for anyone who has upgraded to 8.1 and suddenly lost their two finger tap right click functionality, I highly suggest that you use this: http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-enable-two-finger-tap-for-right-click-in-windows/.  It restores the functionality of the trackpad and does not interfere with the synaptics clickpad.  Just make sure that if your synaptics two finger scroll still works, you turn OFF that feature in the downloaded app.
Until HP figures out how to make their software compatible with 8.1 (which, if they're listening, SHOULD NOT BE AT ALL DIFFICULT NEARLY TWO WEEKS AFTER LAUNCH), this is an acceptable workaround.  Also, I'm sure many of you have already figured this out, but HP customer service is atrocious and definitely not worth your time.  If you ask them how to solve this, they'll tell you to restore your PC to factory settings and completely reinstall Windows 8.1.
I hope this helps anyone else who's experiencing this problem, as I only decided to post it after spending several hours fruitlessly searching for a solution.

On updating from windows 8 to windows 8.1, my Synaptics touch-pad lost the two finger right-click gesture.
Even after frustatingly trying to install-uninstall new driver software, problem didn't solve.
Finally I find the solution in registry entry:-
Go to Start > Run and type Regedit in Windows 7, or in Windows 8 type Regedit at the start screen.
    Once open navigate to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Synaptics > SynTP > TouchpadPS2
There, right click and select New, DWORD Value. Name the value '2FingerTapAction'. Once created, double click it and set the Value Data to '2'.
If '2FingerTapAction' is already there, double click it and set the Value Data to '2'.
On certain systems the registry folder where the "2FingerTapAction" key is located may be named differently. e.g. On Envy x2 it is called "TouchPadRMIHID2c".
Then log off and log on, and it should all work. Easy.
I hope the problem is resolved.

  • Magic Trackpad's One Finger "Tap to Click" Not Working in Login Window?

Magic Trackpad's *One Finger* "Tap to Click" Not Working in Login Window:
All of my iMac's accounts have *One Finger* "Tap to Click" turned on (checked) in System Preferences. However, in the Login Window where the user decides which account to login to, the Magic Trackpad's clicking ability does not work even though moving the arrow does work. How do I turn on the Magic Trackpad's ability to click in the Login Window?

After accidentally pressing down on the Magic Trackpad, I realized the trackpad has tactile feedback, that is, it is a big button that can be pressed down and pop back up like old computer mice. Though this will allow the trackpad to select the account I want to open in the Login Window, it still doesn't explain why "tap to click" isn't working in the Login Window. Nevertheless, my question can be considered as answered.

  • Significant delay when using the "tap to click" trackpad function

(I accidently post this in the wrong forum -- for the old MBP -- so this is a repost)
Hello everyone! I bought a 2.4 Ghz unibody MBP like 3 weeks ago. I had an issue and they replaced the computer with a new one at the store. Today is the first day of using the new laptop. They switched out the ram upgrade and the hard drive.
The issue seems to be that when using the tap to click function on the trackpad, there is a relatively significant delay (at least for a click). With the regular mouse button the delay isn't there. Such as if I'm clicking on the finder or the file tab, there's a bit of a delay before they pop up, compared to instantaniously with the mouse button. When using the trackpad for regular types of tasks, there is a bit of a delay sometimes too. Such as I'll be moving the mouse across the screen and it will stop.
Please help me out. If I could solve it without going back to the Apple store that would be great. Thanks everyone in advance.

Update: I think the 1/2 second delay is too long of an estimate, but the delay is significant enough to make me notice something has to be wrong. My previous MBP had no delay.
When moving the mouse around, I'm not sure if it's a MBP issue, but occasionally the mouse seems to "get stuck" on the screen and I have to begin moving my finger again on the trackpad. This happened on the first MBP too.

  • Tap to click trackpad function comes and goes?!

Tap to click and two finger tap for left click mysteriously come and go. When they go I can uncheck and recheck the appropriate box in system prefs and it works again. Sometimes it starts working again all by itself. Anybody else? Virus?

  • Magic Mouse randomly enabled tap to click

Hey guys. I've had a magic mouse for over a year now, and I've loved it for all those years.
Until recently, when it decided to randomly enable the "tap to click" feature.
I didn't even know there was a tap to click feature, and I can't find a way to disable it in system prefs.
I've tried disabling MagicPrefs, restarting the mouse, restarting the computer, restarting bluetooth, and putting new batteries in the mouse, all to no avail.
    It's driving me insane.
How do I get rid of this?

There isn't a "tap to click" in standard OSx mouse preferences, only a physical click. This must be coming from MagicPrefs. Open the preferences for MagicPrefs (it should be listed under "other" in System Preferences) and select the "clicks & Taps" tab. Under Taps, uncheck all the one finger options.

  • Tap to click nonresponsive in center of trackpad

As the title states, I just started noticing that when I tap to click on the center of my trackpad, it does not respond. I was on my Macbook Pro 13" last night streaming a program and it was still working perfectly fine. I tried browsing a few sites this morning and noticed that whenever I tried tapping the center of the trackpad when say selecting a link or placing the cursor in a search field; it doesn't do anything.
The odd thing is when I tap anywhere else on the trackpad (any of the 4 corners or in those areas) it responds with no problem, only the center does not respond. It does not seem to be a dead spot in the center either because when I navigate with the trackpad it does so flawlessly. in other words, lets say I were starting from the left side of the pad and slide my finger to the right, the pointer on the screen replicates that. It does not move and then stop when I've reached the center of the pad and then continue to move as I reach the right side, same thing goes for up and down and diagonal movements.
I've updated to Yosemite for quite some time now so I doubt that has anything to do with it. Could the site I used last night to stream said program cause this kind of problem??? Anyone else encounter or heard of such a behavior? HELP!!!

I also have this behavior. It seems all trackpad preferences fail to persist after reboot and logout/login. I also disable Pinch Open & Close and Rotate settings and those also revert.

  • Touchpad "Tap to click" misbehaves badly

The tap-to-click function misbehaves really badly for me (xf86-input-synaptics). It is mainly 2 problems:
When I move my mousepointer short periods of time (doesnt seem to go by distance, but it is in the range of 16px-64px depending on how fast I move) and then lift my finger of the touchpad, it reponds as a click.
When I tap-to-click on something that needs precision(a 8x8 button) I notice my pointer moves away alot, causing misclicks and irritation.
I am certain both of these are fixable (even if it requires some C-coding), since I get none of these problems in Windows 7.
PS. My touchpad has a really shitty design (you have to click on the touchpad itself really hard to press the mouse buttons) which makes "tap-to-click" pretty much obligatory.

    hi,
thanks for your reply.  i haven't had time to deal with this issue since i wrote about it in october.
i found the 'properties' window for the touchpad mouse but there is no reset button.  i continue to have this issue and it is becoming more frequent although i have not been able to identify what triggers the sudden shut down of the tap-to-click function.
but something new has cropped up: when the tap-to-click stops working, the next time i tap the touchpad, the pointer goes to the Start button!  this happens every time.  i don't know that anything is different?
any further pointers (forgive the pun) would be most welcome!

  • How to eliminate 'tap' or 'click' sound of a button in CAPTIVATE3?

I have created a button in my project to proceed to the ne
xt screen. When i click it, it gives a 'tap'or 'click' sound. Please suggest me procedure to remove it. I have tried removing the same from the setting, but still the problem persists.

    Hi there
    Just a couple of things.
First, the dialog presented above is from Captivate version 4, not Captivate version 3. The Version 3 dialog is below:
Click the image below to view at larger size.
Second, I'll be totally surprised if the suggestion works to solve the issue. I tested on my own Captivate 3 and despite ensuring the aforementioned options are clear, I still hear a clicking sound when clicking buttons. The only way I'm able to achieve no clicking sound is by renaming the actual clicking sound file that is played. The file is named Mouse.mp3 and is found in the following folder on a Windows XP installation:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 3\Gallery\Mouse\ClickSounds
I changed from Mouse.mp3 to something like Mouse2.mp3. Published again and the clicking sound is gone.

  • Tap to click does not work. Is there no solution?

I have XP SP3 with the latest 2.1.1 update. Tapping doesn't work. Keyboard backlight does not work. Eject does not work. Scrolling is hyper active even with mouse set to 1 click scroll. But worst of all, NO MOUSE CLICK.
If there is a special setting to make, please let me know. I can live with the other problems but not being able to tap is extremely irritating.
Help! Any Apple Certified Techs out there?

For those who care to know, the tap to click pretty much does NOT work at all no matter what version of Windows you have.
I called tech support twice today. The first "expert" told me to try using XP service pack 2. He claimed his tap function worked during his training program.
I said OK and proceeded to erase and reinstall the whole thing. No go.
The second tech reviewed my case number and flat out said, "we don't support windows, I can't help you". I understand that some things are beyond the scope of support but to me, this was an apple boot camp issue. Every salesperson I spoke to said it was no problem. There are problems. Probably to be fixed at a later date, however, it is obviously not a priority.
I do have some good news. I discovered that spyware programs such as Webroot Spy Sweeper seem to make the bootcamp manager crash (you'll see a popup at startup).
But if you just reinstall bootcamp again it will rebuild the drivers and should work.
Also, you can reduce the amount of hyper scrolling across the trackpad by setting the mouse click wheel to 1 (3 by default) in control panel. Be sure to check out the bootcamp panel and enable stuff like the fn keys.
I am now considering Parallels as a solution. If it runs inside OSX then maybe it won't suffer the trackpad issues.
I am staying with SP2 until someone says SP3 is better. Anyone else have any thoughts?

  • Trackpad Tap and Click problem (won't click sometimes)

    Hello,
    I have a Macbook Pro Mid 2012 (MD104)
I had this problem since the beginning (i'm a new mac user for almost 7 months now), i'm really getting tired of this
sometimes (maybe 5-10 times a day) when i tap to click (or even really click with trackpad) it does not work (trackpad is fine , this is a software problem because i have also Windows on my mac and its fine there)
for example it happens when im clicking the Close button to close a window
then "i have to click elsewhere, any where, and then it will click just fine where it didn't work before"
I have Tap to click and Three Finger drag enabled (maybe it is related)
i searched a lot and did many things, neither of them worked
What should i do? any help is appreciated

See if deleting the System Preferences plist solves the problem:

  • Solved problem of too sensitive "tap to click" function on "magic" trackpad

After futzing around I found a solution for myself.  I started using my ring finger to move around and my index finger to click or just stuck with the ring finger for everything.  I got rid of those unwanted annoying false clicks this way using the tap to click function.  I haven't figured out the physiology of why this works for me.

I opened a guest account but unfortunately the same problem persists. Do I continue with a safe boot? Do you yourself experience this problem with your MacBook Pro? Hopefully it'll work soon, I just got mine 5 days ago and am new to Mac.
Safe boot will tell if it is interference with third party plug-in and extensions.  The guest account problem is telling us it is a global problem and not just isolated to your admin account.
Given the information the MAc is 5 days new,  I would just return it for one that worked trouble free out of the box.
No I do not have this problem,  and have not heard it before.

  • Tap to click not working properly in Mountain Lion. How do I get apple to fix this major issue with mountain lion?

The tap to click does not work with mountain lion as it did before the mountain lion install. I purchased a brand new imac in August of 2011 and got a wireless keyboard and selected the wireless trackpad instead of a mouse.  The trackpad worked wonderful pre upgrade with tap to click. Now after the install of the newest beast, I have to actually press the trackpad rather than a slight tap. I have carpel tunnel and this is causing great stress upon my hand. How do I get apple to fix this major issue with mountain lion?

Perhaps, I was not clear enough.
I have an imac purchased in Aug. 2011 which came with Lion 10.6 (two uprades before mountain lion)
Recently, I just purchased a macbook pro retina with Mountain Lion
On my imac, my settings allowed me to "tap to click" everything EXCEPT the initial log in at the star up of my imac, again running Lion 10.6
On my macbook pro retina which has Mountain Lion, I set up the "tap to click" option, but notice that a "hard" click was neccessary when trying to click things. I thought this was a macbook thing (my first one) so I went and upgraded my imac to Mountain LIon, BIG MISTAKE! Now both my imac AND my macbook only have limited "tap to click" options. Before mountain lion I could "tap" to highlight and select text, tap and drag, and many other thiings that Mountain Lion has disabled.
I am truly surprised that no one has noticed this MAJOR issue.
Is there a way to uninstall this update, similar to how on a PC you can go back to a restore point.
On another note even the way PREVIEW has changed is less user friendly, there used to be icons on the bottom right corner of the screen, now I have to double tap and select the option I would like to switch between contacts and thumbnails. This is really annoying and is causing me time when reviewing files.
Just in case anyone was wondering, I did go to system preferences -> trackpad -> select tap to click
In fact almost all of the trackpad functions have been selected.

    Hi Rhondavas77,
    To enable/disable Just-In-Time debugging
On the Tools menu, click Options.
In the Options dialog box, select the Debugging folder.
In the Debugging folder, select the Just-In-Time page.
In the Enable Just-In-Time debugging of these types of code box, select or clear the relevant program types:
    Managed, Native, or Script.
To disable Just-In-Time debugging, once it has been enabled, you must be running with Administrator privileges. Enabling Just-In-Time debugging sets a registry key, and Administrator privileges are required to change that key.
    Click OK.
