  • Email notification of backup through DB13

    Hi,
    I am running backup using BR Tools scheduled through DB13. Is there any way out through which I can get email notification weather backup was done successfully or not & error msg if not.
    I appreciate all your help in advance.
    Thanks,
    Murtaza

    Setting up a monitoring for a system is not a "fast" thing and without understanding what's going on behind the scene I can already read your next post "Mail from RZ20 is not working" in the forum.
    I'm NOT blaming you but it's better for you if you read the provided (good) documentation on the given site and understand the concepts and prerequisites (mail setup etc.), otherwise you will be lost if it's not working.
    Just my 2 cents.

  • Configuring backup through DB13 on windows system with mssql as database

    Hi
    I m using ecc 5.0 with mssql database on windows system.
    I have to take backup using DB13. wht configuration steps are there to take backup using db13.
    plz suggest me the configuration steps.
    plz do the needfull.

    > Actually my client wants to take backup using db13 on disk..as i m new to mssql.i have configured it on oracle database bt i dont know hw to configure it on mssql.so plz do the needful.
    The "needful" thing to do now is to read documentation.
    Doing backup is a very crucial part of running a SAP installation, it's just not enough to follow a "click-guide" without knowing what is done. I told you a few approaches to start to dig into that but you seem to ignore them.
    I'm really not sure why I should repeat here all the steps listed in the online documentation, such as
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/5b/1f2d61f80f4b26a0a4a96c8bb791ec/frameset.htm
    which clearly explains how a backup is set up in DB13/DBACOCKPIT...

    "BR157E Value 'QAS_TUE2_00' for option '-v' longerthan 10 characters"
    This is the pertinent bit.  Your naming convention for your media does not comply with the limitations ..... i.e, change your tape name to be 10 or less characters.

  • BACKUP THROUGH DB13

    Hi Gurus ,
                    In DB13 T-code , what is the difference between the Full Database online + redolog backup and Whole database online + redolog backup ? Kindly tell which type the best one to take backup daily .
    Regards
    Selvan

    Dear,
    As per me there is no difference.
    You can use full offline backup + redologs.
    If you can able to take downtime you can go ahead with full offline backup + redologs.

    Hello,
    Just to add some more information.
    We have 3 servers, X(Database + CI),Y(Dialog instance),Z(Dialog Instance).
    Server  X is the primary node and Y is the failover node.
    Gateway is already installed on Database server and I can verify it by giving ps -aef | grep gwrd.
    Thanks,

    I try to solved this with SAP Note 776505 but still doesn't work.

    Hi,
    Execute the following command at sql prompt.
    grant dba,resource,connect,sapdba to OPS$<SID>ADM  OPS$ORA<SID>
    grant dba,resource,connect,sapdba to O OPS$ORA<SID>
    grant dba,resource,connect,sapdba to  SAPSR3 or SAP<SID>(YOUR SCHEMA NAME)
    Also check owner of SAPUSER table
    SELECT OWNER FROM DBA_TABLES WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'SAPUSER';
    If it returns value OPS$<SID>ADM than its ok, otherwise you have to drop this & recreate with command
    CREATE TABLE "OPS$QASADM".SAPUSER
           (USERID VARCHAR2(256), PASSWD VARCHAR2(256));
            INSERT INTO "OPS$<sid>ADM".SAPUSER VALUES ('<sapowner>',
    '<password>');

  • Spfile restore from RMAN Tape backup to different server

    Hi All,
    First of all let me thank you to the forum from which I keep updating my knowledge on oracle.
    I am having issues when trying to restore spfile from controlfile autobackup to different server. Problem and other details are below:
    Target version : 10.2.0.2
    Netbackup : 6.5.6
    Taken the tape backup through rman on server ABC and trying to restore the spfile from controlfile autobackup to server XYZ. Tape backup has been taken today morning and trying restore now.
    Both servers ABC and XYX have been added (as clients) to netbackup policy.
    Below is the syntax I used for restoring spfile and getting error as mentioned.
    RMAN> run {
    2> set controlfile autobackup format for device type 'SBT_TAPE' to '%F';
    3> allocate channel ch00 device type 'sbt_tape'
    4> parms='ENV=(NB_ORA_SERV=Mediaserver,NB_ORA_CLIENT=XYZ)';
    5> restore spfile to pfile '/oracle/product/10g/dbs/inittest.ora' from
    6> autobackup maxseq 5 maxdays 3;
    7> }
    executing command: SET CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT
    allocated channel: ch00
    channel ch00: sid=36 devtype=SBT_TAPE
    channel ch00: Veritas NetBackup for Oracle - Release 6.5 (2010042405)

    Not sure where I am doing wrong. The same can be restored onto same host (I.E ABC) without any issues .
    Request your help and guidance.
    Thanks,
    SSS

    I don't know whether you can restore to a different server. The easier way should be
    RMAN> restore spfile to pfile 'YOUR_PFILE_NAME' from autobackup;
    then copy this to the new host.
    Check this link
    restore spfile to another host
    Hope this helps

  • Brarchive through Db13

    Hi Support Team,
    Here we have an issue while taking backup of our Golden Master.We are
    trying to take backup
    through db13 ( whole database online + redo log backup).We are copying
    the whole databse backup to the
    local harddisk of the golden master server and while scheduling redo
    log back-ups we are choosing function '-cds'
    AS we found that our brbackup was successful and brarchive will be
    successfull only when we choose function
    '-s'.When we chosse function '-cds' for brarchive we get an error
    saying that :
    BR0181E Option '-cds' not supported for 'disk'
    Our basic doubt is can we try restoring the database in case of
    disaster recovery using the function '-s' for
    brarchive.If not could please provide us solution which is the best
    function to choose for redo log files while tacking backup
    to local hard-disk.
    Regards
    Sandeep

    Hi Varadhu,
    Thanks for the reply.
    The process which we follow here is we schedule the backup (whole database online +redo log back up) to the local hard disk of the server.After the suxcessful backup we move the backup data to the external hard disk which is in the same lan.Like this we have last 10 suxcessful backup till now executed in consequetives suxcessive friday, end of the day and now my external hard disk is getting filled up.
    Now my doubt is :
    How many suxcessful backup data i require for brrestore in case of complete database recovery or disaster recovery.
    Kindly let me know at the earliest.
    Thanks in advance.
