Dear all,
I am tying to install oracle secure backup media library server in solaris SPARC 64 machine.
when i was try to run run SETUP command always miss to copy drive .please look my output.

The update_drv command does not remove the /tmp/AdDrEm.lck lock file immediately,

At some point in time, you may have selected the option to prevent that dialog from appearing again when trying to delete tracks from your library. To reset all of iTunes warning dialogs, click the Edit drop down menu and choose Preferences from the list (on a Mac it is *iTunes -> Preferences* ). When the window pops up, head over to the Advanced tab and click the *Reset Warnings* button. Then quit iTunes and relaunch it. That do the trick for you?

I library and external drive

I think i am nearing the end of my problems. I have rebuilt my iphoto library and seems to working fine except for a few blank photo's, which I don't understand. I presume I will have to rebuild my ilibrary in my external HD, which i intent to do. I then hope to delete the 75GB of photos off my ilibrary and start afresh as it has'nt worked properly for the past year,although i mostly use aperture now.Is there a safe way to delete pics from iphoto, making sure that it works well when I use iphoto again. Thanks for all the help and I hope I am close to the end with this . Its taking up a lot of time in the past week and I need to get back to making a few bob. DH

The only safe way to delete photos form iPhoto is to use iPhoto - in event or pictures view drag the photos to the iPhoto trash in the source pane on the left and empty the iPhoto trash (iPhoto menu ==> empty trash) - iPhoto seems to have problems with deleting large numbers of photos at once so do in batched of 100 or less is you have many

Managed LIbrary and External Drives

I want to transfer my Aperture library to an external drive, continuing to operate on a 'manage' basis, as I'm rapidly running out of room on my internal drive.
This external drive will be exclusive to Aperture and I wish to back this up to another external drive (again only to be used for Aperture back up) using time machine.
Currently I'm backing up to a 1TB drive which I wish continue to use via time machine for everything else.
Am I asking too much? If not can anyone advise how to do.

Currently, I do my primary editing on my rMBP, with a dedicated Thunderbolt drive as the host of the Managed Library (about 2 TB current). I now do my first clone backup to a USB3 drive, which can then be used as a source to further clone back to a dedicate drive in my old Mac Pro.

I have an older "cheese grater" which I may just hang onto for capture via the DV2500. I need a newer system and was going to get the imac quad i7 but this makes me nervous...

AirPortExtreme and Hard Drive Configuration...

Okay this question is two fold...
Does OSX come with a Partitioning Software for Hard drives?
And if so How would you go about telling Time Machine to Back up your computer to only 200G of a 1TB hard Drive?
((All while the Hard Drive is hooked up threw a AirPort Extreme))
I know this is an in-depth question... let see how much you guys really know!

The TM backups can be on the same partition. TM will create a separate sparsebundle for each machine. This would help you avoid having to shift your free space to accommodate the backups as they grow. As a side note, Apple Time Capsule isn't even partitionable without removing the HDD. Another note: the video or any files on the HDD connected to Extreme will NOT be backed up by TM. TM can back up local drives (direct USB/FW), but not a NAS (TC and USB HDD on the Extreme). If you want to have a separate backup drive for your video, it would need to be connected directly to your Mac for TM to back it up.

How do I delete large numbers of photos from library and hard drive without clicking on each one individually?

For instance by dragging across them like you would do to move a block of type. Or any other way. I'm editing about 5,000 images.

The Short answer is the Same Way you select multiple files on the computer system of your choice. Windows would be to click on the first image then hold down the Shift key and select the last image or if they don't run concurrently select the first, hold down the Ctrl key and click the individual files. Once that is don't hit the Delete key and select whether to delete from the just the catalog or Remove from Disk.
On Mac it is the same except the hold down key for selecting non concurrent images and there really isn't a Delete key on a Mac. IIRC you hold down the shift or command key and hit the Backspace key which is labeled Delete.

Hi,
Currently, Windows Hyper-v does not support tape libraries on the Vfc - this is covered in the following TechNet article.
Hyper-V Virtual Fibre Channel Overview
Tape library support
Tape libraries are not supported on virtual machines configured with a Virtual Fibre Channel adapter.
Consequently, DPM cannot support something that Windows does not support, so we have documented that Fvc tape is not supported in a VM
Preparing for installation in a virtual environment
So your current options are to use Iscsi attached tape library, or use a Physical DPM Server.
Good news is both the Windows and DPM teams are working with tape library vendors to get their tape libraries certified to work in a Hyper-V VM using Vfc - expect more news about that in a future release of DPM.

Configure tape library with SUN HBA

I am new to tapes and libraries, very familiar with SAN however.
I am using a Sun OEM of QLogic 2342 HBA. Since there is no config file and no BIOS to boot into I am unable to configure the library.
When I run cfgadm I see the library and tapes but when I scan for the library using NetBackup software I do not see any devices.
Any help would be appreciated.

First thing first, make sure the path to the WWN in cfgadm -al shows
"connected configured"
THEN, you will need to go through the fabric tape attachement instructions in the netbackup media manager guide, which involves
configuring the sg driver.
After that, you'll need to run sgscan to see the library and the tape drives. Only after that will you be able to configure the library on your media server.
I think we're missing the first step, in your case.

Integration of RMAN with virtual tape library

I would like to test something about RMAN and writing directly to tape. For this I installed mhvtl, a virtual tape library. The installation was pretty easy. http://sites.google.com/site/linuxvtl2/
RMAN does not recognize any tape in the system.
ORA-19554: error allocating device, device type: SBT_TAPE, device name:
ORA-27211: Failed to load Media Management Library
What I found out is that in order to make backups to a media manager, RMAN must communicate with a media management library, which is a 3rd party library that is not supplied by Oracle. So I guess unless there is a Oracle MML library available for mtx I' out of luck here.

I installed Oracle Secure Backup Express and spend all afternoon with this strange product, mainly to troubleshoot the installation and setup. I'm not really sure everything works - it's quite a piece of software, as usual.
I ran into a couple of issues that were not mentioned in the installation documentation:
- install sg3_utils
- use obtool to register the server as mediaserver

Document ID 396046.1 solution outlines to correct the hostname or mediaserver name. However, this was not the problem. I finally figured that /etc/obproxyd is a symlink to a .wrapper script which points to the actual proxy application. The fix was:
#chmod +s /usr/local/oracle/backup/.etc.linux86_64obproxyd
After this the error changed:
RMAN-03009: failure of backup command on ORA_SBT_TAPE_1 channel at 01/23/2011 02:43:36
ORA-19506: failed to create sequential file, name="3cm2q2an_1_1", parms=""

The fix for this error:

Strange, backup to tape with 'mtx' and 'tar' works, so the problem might be OSB.

I finally got it running. I deleted the current library and drive configuration and used the webtool to configure the other library at /dev/sg17. it was also necessary to use the webtool to load a volume into the drive. Unfortunately I did not note down the steps in details. Maybe next time.

Disaster Recovery from tape library!

Hi,
I am using oracle 10g and Backup Exec 12 as the media management software. How do i perform the disaster recovery. My entire scenario is like this:
Server A has the DB (Database).
Configured Backup Exec with RMAN and took full DB backup along with autobackup of controlfile to the tape.
Server A crashes and is unusable.
Installs Oracle on server B and needs to restore the DB on this new server.
I know the DBID of the DB but how to configure RMAN to work with Backup Exec, so that I can restore the db from the tape library?
When you configure the RMAN integration with Backup Exec, it finds the database running on the server and will perform the integration. But in my case, since the database does not exist, how will the Backup Exec agent configure the integration?
How do we go about the restoration to Server B in this case?

I am still not able to restore the db. The scenario is like:
Took a full database backup to tape from server A with controlfile autoconfig
Trying to restore the db on server B. The following is the script used to restore.
