Tape rotation on EBS 7.2 Legato Networker

I have Sun Enterprise Backup Software aka Legato Networker 7.2 with autochanger.
How to make scheduled tape rotation?
Every weekday a new tape should be loaded.
Peter

A bit strange.
Just removing and adding Networker packages again solved the problem.

    Some times it is as easy as configuring the client (ensuring it is Unix) and having it assigned to the appropriate schedule/pool/etc, some times you will have to specify a specific schedule, client, server in your RMAN create channel env='{..... &#93;' parameters.<br />It's usually the rman channel parameters.<br /><br />If you can't figure it out have a look at EMC/Legato's website.

  • Howto integrate rman 9 with legato networker 6

    Hi,
    I have the following on one node:
    SUN os 5.9
    Legato Networker 6.1.3 (client)
    oracle server 9.2.0.5
    How can I integrate rman with legato networker? Which is the library needed?
    thanks in advance,
    Fernando

    Hi,
    many thanks for the info. I've created the symbolic link, but when I make a backup to sbt, rman says:

    I also tried with sbttest:

    -- sbtinit2 succeeded

    It seems that rman cannot connect to legato's libraries.
    any clue?

  • Rman and legato networker

    I have an installation of oracle 8i on AIX, and legato networker 6.1.1.
    I need to link the legato networker 6.1.1 to oracle so that I can trigger rman backups.
    The liblsm.a provided in the installition cd of oracle is for version 5.5 as documented in the installation notes for AIX. What must I do for legato 6.1.1 ?
    Thanks for your help

    A "restored" controlfile can be from either of
    a. An RMAN Backup (ie a backup created by a BACKUP CONTROLFILE command in RMAN or CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP)
    b. A manual / scripted Binary Backup (one created with the SQL command "BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO filename")
    c. A controlfile recreated from a script (eg where the script was generated by the SQL command "BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE ")
    In the first two cases, the restored controlfile also contains information about RMAN Backups made as of upto the point of the controlfile backup . Therefore, even in the absence of an RMAN Catalog, such a controlfile can be used to issue RESTORE DATABASE commands -- it can only restore from backupsets that it knows -- backupsets that were "registered" into the controlfile before the controlfile backup was made.
    In the third case, since the controlfile is recreated afresh, it has NO "knowledge" of database backups (backupsets). A simple "RESTORE DATABASE" cannot be used. Either backupsets must be re-registered into this controlfile with the "CATALOG" command OR an RMAN Catalog must be used (as the Catalog has information about Database Backups and the names of the backupsets containing these backups).

  • ZFS backup -- Legato Networker / Solstice Backup - supported?

    Does Legato Networker/Solstice Backup support backing up ZFS file systems?
    Has anyone tried backing up mounted ZFS snapshots?

    Specifically I am looking at being able to break the pool up in to various daily backups, but I noticed naming a filesystem doesn't back up the filesystems beneath it. (ie, /zpool/home doesn't mean /zpool/home/group2/bob gets backed up)
    Is there a good strategy for backing up snapshots instead of the live filesystem?I think your only choices are to either use 'all' and let the client gather all the live filesystems, or name what you want to gather explicitly. There's not really any other choices. (This is a problem for some Networker admins even without having ZFS involved).
    One option is to have a script maintain the save set list. At least then you don't have to do it by hand. You could make it smart enough to add in new filesystems, and you could easily have it reference snapshots instead of the live filesystem.

    Instructions for using Solstice/Legato Networker to back up iPlanet Calendar
    Server
    <P>
    The following discussion expands upon the instructions for using the
    Solstice/Legato client software to back up Calendar Server in the iPlanet
    Calendar Server: Administration Guide. You can find this documentation at
    the following URL:<BR>
    <P>
    http://docs.iplanet.com/docs/manuals/calendar/ics21/ag/calagadm.htm#1064539
    <P>
    If the Solstice/Legato Networker is installed under the default directory (as

    To initiate the Networker backup directory image, use the command<BR>
    <P>
    csbackup -l

    This command creates a directory named "
    backup/" in the bin
    directory and corresponds to Step 1
    under the procedure for Backing Up Calendar Server Data in the
    iPlanet Calendar Server Documentation.
    <P>
    After you have initiated the directory image, you can use the following commands
    to back up or restore 1) a Calendar database, 2) a specific user's default
    calendar, or 3) a specific calendar. The following commands assume that the Networker
    client software is installed under the /usr/bin/nsr
    directory and the iCS 2.x server is
    installed under the /opt
    directory.

    <P>
    You can also use the Networker graphical user interface to schedule backups.
    For example, you could set up a client saveset to back up
    /opt/SUNWicsrv/cal/bin/backup
    periodically.

  • IT Manager of EBS impl looking to network with other EBS managers

    I'm an IT manager responsible for, among other Oracle applications, an extensive enterprise EBS implementation including Financial, Procurement and HR modules. I'm looking for a forum (blog, conferences, local Pittsburgh organization, etc.) to network and collaborate with other EBS managers. Would love to pick the brains of my peers, learn best practices, exchange lessons learned, etc. One of my co-workers, the Manager of our Help Desk organization, used to attend an annual conference for Help Desk Managers. I'd love to find a similar conference for EBS Managers. Anything out there? Look forward to hearing back.

    Welcome to the forums !
    There are plenty of resources to help you get connected.
    For starters, become a member of Oracle Applications Users Group (OAUG) - http://www.oaug.org. The price of admission is a steal compared to the benefits. OAUG also hosts a week long annual conference (details on the website) in the spring. The OAUG has a Pittsburgh chapter that meets more often. Details at http://pittoaug.oaug.org/
    There are Oracle forums dedicated to EBS where technical questions are discussed & debated - http://forums.oracle.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=3

  • What is the best way to tap into my work's Window's network?

    I have a new MacBook Pro (with Parallels and Vista).
    My work has a typical ethernet network of Windows machines. (They gave me a Dell laptop running XP. Yuck!)
    The office has no wireless anything. I have one ethernet outlet in my office. Assuming the Dell has bluetooth, can I use bluetooth to get onto the office network? Do I need Airport Extreme/Bonjour?
    I suspect that anything "out of the ordinary" will raise an eyebrow, so I want to be as unobtrusive as possible. I don't need to access any printer. Primarily I want to access the Internet, and then the company server.

    Ah I have the same question. We tried using the script from both the Apple and MS support sites as follows
    sudo su
    $ cd /usr/sbin
    $ cat > EnableUnicastDotLocal
    #!/bin/tcsh
    echo domain local > /etc/resolver/local.1
    grep -v domain /etc/resolv.conf >> /etc/resolver/local.1
    echo search_order 2 >> /etc/resolver/local.1
    [Control-D]
    $ chmod +x EnableUnicastDotLocal
    $ exit
    These steps create an executable shell script named "EnableUnicastDotLocal" that will create and populate the necessary configuration files to enable dual lookups of .local hostnames.
    To run the script, execute this command:
    $ sudo /usr/sbin/EnableUnicastDotLocal
    We get stuck on the error message
    "/etc/resolv.conf doesn't exist"
    does anyone know anything about this. The MAC is running MAC OS X 10.3

  • How do I backup shared folders in SIMS 4.0 with Legato NetWorker?

    They are not included in backup directory structure by 'mkbackupdir' tool.

    Hi Strontium90,
    Thanks for your reply!!
    I tried your command, but unfortunately i got the following error msg:
    "too many command-line arguments (first is "devicemgr_v2m0")
    Try "pg_dump --help" for more information."
    Please correct me if I'm wrong: assuming command was successful, I should've seen 'profileManager.sql' file at my desktop(output path = ~/Desktop/) which is the Profile Manager's database file I guess, right? and where is the restoration path located? in case I want to restore Profile Manager's database with the created backup file('profileManager.sql').
    Also you mentioned: "Automate to perform daily", how can I automate this command?
    Thanks a lot for your support!
    Have a nice day.
    Yours sincerely,

  • Legato networker incremental backup hangs

    Hi All,
    I have once a week database level 0 backup and the rest of the days level 1 cumulative backup. Problem I am facing is level 1 backup always hangs, whereas level 0 backup finished in an hour. Here I am posting all possible info I know of to investigate why it hangs.

    There is no information after "starting backup" even after 4, 5 hours. The most of the waits are being observed at "SQL*Net message from client". Also, there is no high load, no cpu usage or no disk activity going on. Everything on server appears to be idle. Also, catalog server is Oracle 9i where db server is 10g.
    Any idea ? ?

    Dear Tycho,
    The script executed fine for like more than a year, so that's not the syntax issue. Otherwise, it might have given a syntax error just in the beginning.
    The problem has been solved. Issue was the recovery catalog was having entries for many expired backups for more than a year and was never cleaned up. I crosschecked and removed all expired entries and backup now completes faster than even before.
    Cheers !

  • EBS/Networker Client savepnpc scripts

    I am running Sun Enterprise Backup (aka Legato Networker) 7.1 Business edition. The server is running on a Solaris 9/Sparc machine. The server is also a client. I also have Linux and Polaris clients.
    I am trying to get client savepnc scripts (for pre/post commands) working. (this would be to shutdown specific applications while a client was being backed up.) Under /nsr/res, there is a *.res script for each backup group. On the server, template ones were created by default for each group. I modified them to send me an e-mail
    type: savepnpc;
    #precmd: "echo hello";
    precmd: "echo server1 precmd | mail [email protected] ";
    #pstcmd: "echo bye", "/bin/sleep 5";
    pstcmd: "echo server2 postcmd | mail [email protected] ", "/bin/sleep 5";
    timeout: "12:00:00";
    abort precmd with group: No;
    I created similiar files on the clients.
    These scripts are run for the server's "client" instance. (They don't run if the server is not defined as a client in the backup group.) They don't run on the other clients. The log files don't show any indication that there was even an attempt to run them.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    Never mind- I had accidentally typed the "savepnpc" command in the "save operations" field and not the "backup command" field.

  • Legato Single Server Version

    Hi All,
    I want some information regarding LSSV and Oracle Secure Backup. Wether both are same or is there any difference between them. Also want to know that if LSSV is the part of Oralce Companion Tools then how to install the LSSV.
    EMC Networker for Oralce is also integrated with Legato or it is seprately a third party tool.
    Thanks & Rgards,
    Adil Mukhtar

    Oracle Secure Backup is an Oracle product. EMC / Legato Networker are 3rd party products. Oracle Secure Backup Express is bundled with the database providing tape backup for one server direct attached to one tape drive for no additional cost (free). For more advanced functionality, Oracle Secure Backup may be licensed. Please refer to the Oracle Secure Backup licensing document for specific functionality differences between OSB and OSB-Express.
    LSSV was an EMC / Legato product which did ship with the database a few years ago. While product differences exist, you would compare:
    Oracle Secure Backup Express ------ LSSV
    Oracle Secure Backup ----- Networker
