Tapping to Align...

PALM T/X –  MAC OS 10.4   –   I recently started to have problems with the alignment of "Tapping" on the screen. I went to the alignment page and started to TAP to correct the problem. As I continued to TAP, it just kept requesting another TAP with no end in sight. Luckily my device was recently backed up because it got to the point that I had to do a HARD RESET. NOW THE PROBLEM.... when I restarted my palm, it goes directly to the TAPPING / ALIGNMENT window and I cant' get out of it.
(The instruction PDF that came with the Palm shows a "DONE" button at the bottom of the ALIGNMENT window, but my ALIGNMENT window doesn't have this button.)
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
Please refer to this lengthy thread stickied near the top of the Hardware board.  It discusses every possible fix or work-around for digitizer problems.
Note: if your TX is out of warranty (over one year old), you would be better-served to contact either www.pdaparts.com or www.usedpdaparts.com rather than Palm.  They can either replace your digitizer, or sell you one to do the job yourself, at a fraction of what Palm would charge you to either replace your digitizer with another potentially problematic one, or send you a refurbished device.
And, I am moving this thread to the Hardware board.

  • Importing problem w/ mini DV (missing frames)

    Hi all,
I have two different sets of mini DV tapes (shot with 2 different cameras). They are both game footage for football. Each set provides a different angle (wide angle and tight angle views). I imported both onto iMovie however I had problems with the tight tapes.
The wide angle tapes import just fine but when I try the tight tapes they don't register in the "frame boxes" to the right of the monitor. To be clear, the video itself shows up in the monitor just fine but doesn't appear in real time within the frames...and eventually it does but when I play it back the video is missing frames and is very jumpy.
Because the wide tapes work I know I'm not doing some basic thing wrong- I'm curious as to why the tape from the tight DVs doesn't register. I know the two cameras were different so consequently the two mini DVs are different. Does this have anything to do with the settings of each? It's very odd...any thoughts?

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
Were the poor tapes shot at LP or Super-LP speed?
Could the heads in the poor (narrow) camera need cleaning? (Camcorders, especially Sonys, sometimes replace poor frames 'on-the-fly' while you're watching in the viewfinder, or on a monitor, but that doesn't happen when the poor recordings are exported via FireWire.)
What happens when you swap the tapes between the camcorders and then import? ..In other words, is it the tapes or the camcorders?
(NOTE: a Super Long Play tape swapped into another camcorder may not play back properly because of discrepancies in head alignment ..which may be causing the poor importing anyway - tape and heads shrink and expand in temperature extremes, so shooting a Super LP tape outdoors on a cold day and then replaying indoors in the warmth may produce poor tape/head alignment.)
Which cameras were they, and what happens when you swap the tapes between cameras?

  • IMovie Transitions rippling video

    I have a G5 2.7 running 10.4.2 with 6 gigs of ram. I am using iMovie 5.0.1.
When I use a transition between clips I get an unwanted 'rippling' video effect which looks similar to an old video tape head alignment problem. It is only when I use a transition and it is on every different transition I pick.
Any thoughts on what is going on? Prior to this I had a G4 and I didn't have this issue.....
    Thank you.

I have noticed these flaws with the transitions. Are you seeing something else?

  • HP Officejet Pro 8000 -- keeps printing alignment page

I was having troubles with the black ink not printing correctly so after doing many cleanings I decieded to manually clean the print head. I took the printhead out of the printer then wipped the part where the ink comes out with a most paper towle. After I put the printhead back in the printer printed a print alignment page. OK. Now when ever I print anything the printer will after the print job is done print another alignment page. Is there a way to make it stop? Thanks for you help.

  • How to align or sync video and audio?

In Premiere 13,  once I have added a video/audio clip and then either slow down the clip or add photos in between the clip causes the video and audio to be out of sync.  How does one re-align or re-sync the clip once it has been edited?  Thanks

    mrsndmn
On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running?
There are several ways to avoid disturbing an existing Timeline when you are adding to it.
    1. Using what are called keyboard modifiers, such as Ctrl or Alt (Windows).
    2. Grouping block of clips so that the clips move together
The following video tutorial is offered for informational and not promotional reasons
Premiere Elements: Arranging clips on the Timeline using modifier keys | lynda.com - YouTube
It uses a version of Premiere Elements earlier than 13, but the principles involved are the same.
The video and audio that are going out of sync.... are they linked or grouped before the addition to the existing Timeline?
After the fact, you will need to move the Timeline components back in place.
If the video and audio are not linked or group, you can
    (a) highlight the clip, hold down the Alt key of the computer main
keyboard and tap the appropriate arrow key for a 1 frame per tap nudge of the clip.
    (b) highlight the clip, hold down the Shift+Alt key of the computer main
keyboard and tap the appropriate arrow key for a 5 frames per tap nudge of the clip.
Please review and consider. If questions or need clarification on the above, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thank you.

  • Pattern Swatch Alignment

    Greetings!
I've been trying to figure out how some patterns I've been working on are deciding how to align themselves.
I have a set of patterns that alter in size. 25 of them. I am adding these to a set of radial circles. On 20/25 of them, everything is perfectly aligned. On 5, it won't be.
The shapes are centered with a diamond as a spacer element. Nothing is poking out. Each diamond is exactly the same size. They are stepped evenly to create the pattern, same distance. Then the whole thing is cropped into a square. Each square is exactly the same size, pasted back in after the trim, unfilled and sent to the back. But. When I fill the objects with my patterns, 3 or 4 of them will not line up with the rest. I can move the filled shapes all over and yet, I can't seem to adjust where my pattern starts filling. And I'm not sure why 3-4 of them would start at a different spot when 20 of them are all working perfectly. At the moment, the only way I have to resolve this is converting the rogue ones to bitmaps and manually adjusting them. As that is a ton of memory I'd rather figure out what I can do to fix my vector patterns. Any ideas?
    Thanks :)

I can't post a picture but maybe I can be a little more clear.
Think of it this way. You have 20 checkerboards. Each one is exactly 1.555"
The only difference is, between the first and last, you add a few checkers to the center of the board. All boards are 1.555" with a black square in the top left. Each one has the board's shape, unfilled, behind the squares. Yet, if you make a pattern tile of each of these 20 boards, 15 or so of them will start at the top of the first black square. 5 will start halfway down it that first black square.
I assumed (I know, THAT word!) that AI was starting each pattern off the top leftmost corner. But now, I'm not sure this is the case. And, if there is anything I can do to adjust it. The closest thing I see right now is to turn on the option to adjust fills with transform and tap things around. I suspect I really need finer measurement to go by. If I step a board, I can see where one can end up a thousand of a millimeter wider than the others. But, I can't see the discrepency in the originals. I've been digging trying to find an option to turn on measurements to the .0001 of a millimeter so I can prove or disprove they are even.

  • Alignment issues between timelines?

I am stumped. I am not a newbie, but this is driving me crazy.
(not my file, supplied by client) I have a movie clip in the main timeline, which in its own timeline has rollover buttons which coincide with popup panels in the main timeline. I need to add a callout line between the rollover buttons on the movie clip timeline with the popups on the main timeline.
I have tried to do a quick copy/paste thing from the MC timeline just to add the callouts (and then delete it) to the main, but everything shifts over to another place, and that does not help me at all, and I really dont know why! Like I said, driving me crazy.
Any clues on how to align a main timeline object(s) with a object(s) on its own timeline? And, am I a moron? : ) why can I not copy paste and/or use the properties x/y to place it in? When I do it shifts to a way different location on the main timeline. Seriously, stumped.
    Help?
    Thanks!

oy, what a tedious task. Are all the symbols you need to copy/paste in one symbol? That would at least make things a little easier. Either way do this:
    1. keep the mc you are copying from on the main timeline for reference.
    2. go into the mc, double click or Edit>Edit in Place
    3. with the layers you want to copy from unlocked, highlight all your frames. Its easy to do if you just click the layer names, shift click to select multiples in order.
    4. right click on the selected frames, and chose Copy Frames. (the layers all need to be adjacent). See Image 1 attached.
    5. go to your main timeline and make a new layer
    6. highlight all the frames on that layer, same way in #3
    7. right click and choose Paste Frames.
Now you just need to align. we kept the mc on the timeline for reference, so this now gets easier.
    1. Lock all the layers you DONT want to move.
    2. Turn on Onion Skin. See image 2 attached
    3. click the Modify Onion Markers buttons and choose Anchor Onion. See image 3.
    4. click it again and choose Onion All.
    5. Hit cntrl/cmd+A to grab all the frames to move
    6. Now reposition all your mcs to where you need them. You could drag them with the mouse, or tap with arrows. But I like to just do the math, its percise. You can check them against the mc we left on stage.
With so many symbols to move you may want to do them in segments. A set of maybe 10 at a time.
When you are all done copying/pasting frames, Delete the symbols you dont need on the main timeline. Then, in the Library, click the little drop down in the top right and choose Select Unused Items and hit delete. You might need to do this twice. once to clear the symbols not in use, and again to clear out bitmaps or sounds or other symbols that were inside of the first group deleted.

  • Photosmart - Printing alignment page problem

You can change the schedule, then make a custom filter to look at future scheduled tape backup jobs and see when they are scheduled to run.
Alternately, you can use the Power shell script in this post to list all the scheduled tape jobs. It usually takes about 20 minutes after changing the schedule before the below script output is populated.

  • Aligning stylus touch screen / keeps looping

    Hello,
I am trying to align the touch screen on my Palm Tungesten E2, using the built in touchscreen configuration tool.
It tells me to tap exactly on the center of the target. I do that three times or more, and it keeps looping still telling me to tap exactly center of the target.
This is a problem because whenever I using the letter or number function , I get a period (.) symbol. The stylus is not aligning properly.
The only option to get out of the touchscreen configuration tool is by pressing the reset hole on the back of my device.
Can somebody out there help me?
    Regards,
    Mike

Hello, if you get a period when you use the on-screen keyboard, it could be that you have turned on the full screen graffiti function.  This is what allows you to write on the full screen rather than just in the graffiti area.
There should be a small icon in the status bar on the bottom of your screen, which looks like a little squiggly line or a snake.  Tap it to toggle this function on and off, and see if it helps.

  • Simple question re miniDV tapes

Let's say I use a Sony camcorder to record some video.
Would I be able to put that tape into a Canon camcorder and import it into my Mac?

    Beverly,
I may be wrong, however, I believe Sue's advice pertains to tapes recorded in LP/long play or extended mode rather than SP/standard play mode.
When playing back a tape recorded in LP mode in another camcorder unless the heads (and all those other big techical terms Klaus mentioned)are in perfect alignment, sync (or whatever) poor playback (eg. dropped frames) is usually the result.
Even identical camcorders, same make/model assembled only minutes apart by the same personnel won't have the same alignment (with the exception of random chance, something like the lottery - the odds are against this happening, but it could).
In this paticular instance it appears the recording speed would be the issue.
For tapes recorded in LP/EP etc. you need the same camcorder to import the footage without problems. Tapes recorded in SP are no problem.

  • VHS import (via Sony DVcam), some tapes display video only in fast forward

I, like many others, have been copying my VHS tapes to iMovie. This has been going fine, but I have part of one tape and all of another where no video displays when the tape is played on the VCR, UNLESS that is, one is fast forwarding or reversing, when it looks fine (though a bit faster than desirable for capture).
My old VCR died, and I picked up a nice used Panasonic at Goodwill (couldn't even find one at the local electronic store except as dedicated VHS to DVD). It seems to work fine (much better than my old one in fact).
Any idea on what my problem is? My old VHS camera was an Olympus that could also record SVHS (I think that was what the higher-quality mode was called). Is that something that requires an SVHS VCR to play? I did use to know this stuff, but it's lost in the distant-past memory cells.
    Many thanks,
    Steve

It sounds as if the questionable tapes may have been recorded in LP (Long Play) mode. This gives a much narrower recording band on the tape, which may not match up with other tape decks unless the head alignment exactly matches the original.
Maybe your new, er 'used', Panasonic doesn't have an LP playback speed, or - as it's a 'used' machine - the heads aren't quite as properly aligned as they should be ..or perhaps that was the case with your old VHS camera.
S-VHS video won't play back at all on normal VHS equipment - although the sound should be OK if it was recorded on the normal lower-quality 'longitudinal' track (..S-VHS also embeds higher quality audio on an audio track within the video, just like digital video).
So yes; S-VHS does need an S-VHS machine to play it.
LP recordings need an LP-capable VHS player (..most are..) but tolerances between the original equipment, on which the tape was recorded, and the playback device need to be fairly tight.
Have you tried adjusting the Tracking control? ..or try playing the tapes on a JVC player which has a 'BEST' facility, and which tries to adjust the tracking for you.
Otherwise, as Bengt suggests, try to play the tapes on various other machines till you find one which gives a decent picture!

  • Align audio to video

I had a project where the audio did not record. I took a cassette tape of the event, imported into a new movie then as a clip into iMovie. I extracted the audio and aligned it with start of the video clip. The audio starts to run ahead noticeably and by the end of the clip, is about four seconds ahead. Is there a way to compress the audio so that it lines up with video from start to finish?

Well . . . "built in audio" is the option you need to select. And unless you have another audio device plugged in (and by that I mean a USB or Firewire audio interface) it will be the only one you will get. You will never be able to select your mini disc player directly from Audacity's input selection. It doesn't work like that.
By selecting "built in audio" in Audacity, you are selecting either the built-in mic on your Powerbook, or the line-in socket, depending on which option you have selected in System Preferences. If you have it set up like I suggested in my earlier post, it should work. If you have got it to work once, and not changed any settings, it should work again. Make sure you check the following:
1: System preferences, Sound, Input - should be set to "Line-in"
2: Your mini disc's output is plugged into the Powerbook's line-in. Volume is set at about 80%.
3: You should get a signal in Audacity if you have followed these steps.
Any problems should be solved by the help pages on Audacity's website: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/
If Audacity just isn't working for you, you might try Sound Studio (Which may have come free on your Mac) or can be downloaded from http://www.felttip.com/products/soundstudio/ for 1 15-day free trial.
You could even have a bash at doing it with GarageBand, if you have it.

  • Synching footage from two tapes

Synchronizing footage from two tapes always takes me a lot of time because there are a lot of brakes on both tapes. There must be a way that the computer can help with this. I was thinking it would have to do something with the time codes on each tape. I usually have two tapes that I need to align so that I can cut back between the two. So my question is: Is there a filter or a plugin for FCE 4 that can figure out the time codes of the two tapes and then align the footage on the timeline in final cut?
FYI, when I use my camera to log and capture the footage I can see on the camera display the time and the date when it was filmed so I know the information IS there- but how do I transfer it to the computer?

Piero has a timecode reader plugin that will help you but it depends on the format you're working in. HD, out of luck. DV it'll work.
