Target collection

I am new to lightroom 5.5.  I have created a number of smart collection.  As I wanted to control the photo order order ( I know I cant do this in a smart collection) I thought I would create a target collection from selected (B key) based on a smart collection . I did not work.  ( may be it is not possible)
I then simply created a new target collect, avoiding smart collections, and secting photos from other collections.  Again it did not work.  What is curious is that earlier I had managed to inser one photo into the quick collection, which I then deleted.  Except that it reappears after repeated deletions. 
Is this my stupidity or has my lightroom prog got corrupted?

Target Collection only works with Static Collection.
Smart Collection membership requires a photo meet a series of conditions met in the SC setup.  You can't add a photo which doesn't meet all of those conditions into a Smart Collection.
Static Collections can be Target Collection as they are built by picking photos at the whim of the picker.
My guess is that the accidental success was due to coincidence of the image meeting the criteria already.

    You could try to create your custom report based on Software Updates Status views.

  • Set as Target Collection

    When I create a Collection and want to set is as Target Collection I have to do a 2-step process:
    (1) Create Collection
    (2) Right-click the new Collection and set a starget
    I propose to include the option of setting the Collection as target into the dialog of creating a Collection.
    Natuarlly we also need the possibility of right-click target setting.
    And since I am on this topic:
    I would like the possibility of setting more than one Collection as target (i.e. target 1, traget 2, etc).
    We can set the rating by numbers, why not set the target by Ctrl. + #, or Shift + # or b1, b2, etc ?

    W-W, I completely agree with the option to have more than one target, that would really work for me.
    Reason Hilrg is that you are working through a folder of images, and then one pops up that you should tag / mark / place / refer to / remember and without losing a train of thought - your main task, you can assign other images to other important collections
    At the moment I wade through many folders / collections  whatever and just mark all the good images, then I need to wade through that collection to place them into
    equine photos
    interior design photos
    exterior design / architectural photos
    details of design photos
    etc etc
    the ability to mark several collections and place photos in collection 1,2,3,4 would be inormously helpful and speed up my work flow.
    There may be important things that adobe engineeers should be doing, but  W-W and I think this is a cracking idea.

  • How to set a Collection as a Target Collection

    So what do you get when you right-click on the Collection name?   • Targeting Collections with SUP in 2012

    Hey newbie here to SCCM 2012 and SUP -- I've been using SMS since the 2.0 days.  I have a concept that I’m trying to wrap my head around and maybe someone can point
    me in the right direction.
    The process that I have works great in SCCM 2007 R3 -- i need to port this same process over to 2012 R2.
    Background
    In my SCCM 2007 R3 environment my servers fall into two categories:
    Ones that have MW and can be scheduled rebooted automatically.
    All others that don't have any pre-defined MW and need manual intervention.
    2007 Collections Setup
    I have two collections for this
    SUP - All Servers --
    This is made up of direct membership of servers who get the patches advertised to them but the admin can install when they choose due to various reasons.
    SUP -- MW All Servers --
    This is an empty collection made of up 20-30 sub-collections that have the various different defined MWs based on the application and business requirements.
    This works great in 2007 as i can target my distribution at the two collections. 
    SUP - All Servers &
    SUP - MW All Servers.  When I target the top level
    SUP -- MW All Servers (which includes) all the sub-collections with predefined MWs, they get the updates and install based on their individual MWs.  It keeps it pretty simple and clean.
    2012 Collection Setup
    In working with my SCCM 2012 R2 deployment and SUP's I've discovered that the concept of sub-collections is gone, it’s seemed to be replaced with folders.  This
    is what’s caused me headaches on how I can get this to work as it did in SCCM 2007.
    Once again in 2012 I have created two folders.  For simplicity sake I’ve limited the collections in the MW folder only to 2.
    SUP – Manual - All Servers (folder)
    |--- SUP – Server Patching – Manual (collection)
    SUP – MW - All Servers (folder)
    |--- SUP – MW – 3rd Fri of Month 4-5am ET (collection)
    |--- SUP – MW – 2nd Wed of Month 2-4am ET (collection)
    I’ve setup two Software Deploy Groups in 2012
    SUP – ALL MS13-XXX Approved Updates
    SUP – All Non MS13-XXX Approved Updates
    Each one of these update groups is deployed to the non MW collection with a type of
    available.  This works great – as they are notified on the server that they have patches and need to be installed when they can schedule it.
    Using the same set of two update groups I create a new deployments with a type of
    required to be targeted at my MW collections.  This works great – however I can only target this deployment at
    one collection – that is why the sub-collections worked so well in 2007.  How can I accomplish this same thing w/out having to create 20-30 different deployments each specifically targeted at that specific MW collection?
    There has to be a simpler way to target all my servers that have MW with one deployment.

  • Target Data Collection in ASCP

    I was NOT able to see "Target Data Collection" parameter in LOV of Data Collection Concurrent Program.I was able to "see" ONLY Complete Refresh Parameter in LOV.
    Is there any Profile Option?

    set "purge previously collected data" to 'NO' in the parameter list. you will able to see "targeted collection" and "Net change Collection" in Collection Method parameter LOV.

  • UCM Migration: can not find the source collection in target content

    Hi,
    I'm trying to migrate our content to new instance.
    I have configured the outgoning provider in both servers(source and target), and tested they are ok.
    but I can't continue the step 4:
    Set up an automated pull transfer from the Contribution server to the HR Portal
    server:
    1. On the Contribution content server, create an outgoing provider to the HR portal
    content server.
    2. Open Archiver on the HR portal content server.
    3. Open the target collection and make the target archive “targetable.”
    *4. Open the source collection and select the source archive.*
    5. On the Transfer To tab, select the target archive as the target destination.
    6. Run a manual transfer.
    7. Set the transfer to be automated.
    Any suggestion is appreciated!

    Actually, I have tried both the admin applet and the $UCM_HOME/bin/Archiver. I can't find the remote colletions.
    indeed, there is browse proxied... and browse local. when i click the browe proxied, I can find the remote collection, when i try to open it. but there is alway an error:
    'Unable to retrieve lis of proxied servers. A collection with this name already exists in the system'
    I'm not sure if it caused by the same instance name for both source server and target server?

  • I have and existing collection.  How can I merge images in a Quick Collection into the existing one?

    I wish to add images to an existing collection.  Currently I want to add images in a Quick Collection into an already named collection.  I am using LR3.  How do I do that?

    Select and then right-click the collection that you want the images added into. Select <Set as Target Collection>. A "+" sign appears besides this collection.
    Then select your Quick Collection (or whatever images you want to add to this collection) in the Grid Mode. Click Ctrl/Cmd + A to select all images in this collection. Then press letter "B" on your keyboard. That will add all these images to your target selection.

  • Add photos to a specific Collection from Survey view?

    When I'm doing my edit from a shoot, I often use the Survey view to look at groups of images. Also, I use collections as a way to store selections into future use categories like Contests 2010, Portfolio, etc. In Survey, it seems only possible to add photos to a Quick Collection or view it in an existing collection, but I want to be able to add it to other collections either via drag & drop or by contextual menu. Is this possible to do this and if not, is this something other users find useful enough to add as a feature request?

    I think the drag and drop would be difficult to implement as all the images in Survey View have to be targeted.
    However, if one had the ability to set more than one target collection rather than a single collection or the Quick Collection I think that could be useful for organizing while in Survey View. Just as we can change the meaning of the color labels we could be able to select say, five different collections and assign a target shortcut to them. So whie in survey view (or any view for that matter) I could hit 22 and the image)s) would be added to any collection I deemed to have a target of 22. Add the shift key so as not to confuse with Ratings.
    Currently I cannot suggest a simpler way for you since you state that you are in Survey View. A feature request? Sure go ahead and make one.

    I have created a Device collection for UK region (2000+ machines)
    Now i have been given a list of 1000 machines to which i need to deploy an application.
    I have to create a device collection for this 1000+ machines. as an input i have a excel or CSV file with a list of machine names.
    Please suggest me how can i create a device collection with CSV file as input. Is my CSV file should be in particular format.
    Or is there any other way i can create a collection for this 1000 specific machines.
    Please suggest.

    In the Operating System Deployment section of SCCM right click on Computer Association and choose
    Import Computer Information
    when the wizard appears select Import Computers using a file
    The file itself must contain the information we need in this (CSV) format

    the file can be a standard TEXT file that you create in notepad, and you can rename it to CSV for easier importing into our wizard...
    so, click on Browse and browse to where you've got your CSV file
    on the Choose Mapping screen, you can select columns and define what to do with that mapping, eg: you could tell it to ignore the GUID value (we won't however)
    on the next screen you'll see a Data Preview, and this is useful as it will highlight any errors it finds with a red exclamation mark, in the example below a typo meant that it correctly flagged the MAC address as invalid
    so edit your CSV file again and fix the error, click previous (back) and try again
    Next choose the target collection where you want these computers to end up in
    review the summary
    in SCCM collections, we can now see the computers we've just imported from File,

  • Drag and Drop into quick collection

    Since 5.4, the only way I can add images to a quick collectoin is to set it as the target collection and use the B key or click the target collection icon on the image.  Before i could drag images from the grid of filmstrip just like any other collection, that no longer works.  I prefer to keep a different colleciton my target collection because the quick collecton is always at the top and easy to drag to.
    Seems like a bug?  Tried it on 3 different macs all running OS x 10.9.2

    Yes it does look like a bug. It works fine on all of my catalogs apart from the one that I use to sync with LR mobile....in that catalog it will work if I sign out of LR mobile, but breaks again when I sign back in.

  • Is there a way to add new photos into an existing collection even though they are located in a different folder in Lightroom?

    I am trying to add my favorite photos  that are currently located in multiple folders in Lightroom into a single Collection and am not able to do so. I also do not understand the concept of a Collection Set, which might be the solution here. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!

    A Collection is the way to provide a quick link to any group of images you select. (Maybe ones you want to sent to a printer, or email, etc)
    A Collection does not make a second copy of your images. Collections appear like folders, but the thumbnails in a collection are only "links" to your original images.
    Any Development edits you do to images from a Collection set will show the edits in the Library grid view.
    Collections are great for any projects like a Book, or Slideshow, etc.
    To place image links in a Collection:
    Method 1)   "easy"
    First- (if you have created a collection set by the + on the Collection PANEL HEADER)- Right-click the collection NAME in the Collection Panel and choose "Set as Target Collection".
       This will place a small + sign to the right of the Collection NAME. (you only need to do this once to 'Set as Target')
    Next- (In the library grid view, this can be "All" photographs.!!))- Select one or multiple images, Press the "B" key.
        This will (Bounce, Bump, Bag, Bop) selected images into your "Target Collection"
        So if you select ALL your favourites with ALL photographs visible in grid- you can do it with ONE press of the "B" key.
    Method 2) "almost as easy"
    Select one or multiple images in the Library Grid view.
    Position your mouse cursor in the middle of one of the selected images, hold a left-click and drag your images 'onto' the collection NAME.
    (Note: this does not work if you drag from the border frame of an image.)

  • Importing two sets of pictures into same collection

    I have two sets of pictures on 2 different CF cards and would like to import them into the same collection because they belong together. I already imported one set of photos from one CF card into the appropriate collection name. Since there doesn't seem to be an ADD TO EXISTING COLLECTION option how does one add pictures from another folder to an existing collection? I know one can drag and drop them but I have over 100 additions.

    Are you splitting the shoot into 6 folders just because one CF card happened not to have enough room for all photos? Why not just put the into one folder?

    Select photos in folder view, right-click the target collection and choose "Add Selected Photos to this Collection".

    If the collection are based on metadata, then smart collections indeed is the best way. Use the proper fields in the metadata panel to add towns and cantons, then define a Smart collection that says "City contains Zurich". And you're done. Automatically.

  • Filtering the library by collection status

    I've been using LR for adjusting photos for about 6-8 years now, but have just recently gotten time to start better organizing my stuff. I have about 40,000 images that mostly have keywords and descriptive file names, but are generally without ratings, color labels and are mostly not in collections. I must admit that there's a lot of junk in there (duplicates, mostly) that I have to purge. I can probably work it down to 10,000 images.
    In addition to putting ratings and labels on things, I want to sort them into collections, but that task would be easier if I knew which images were NOT in collections so I could concentrate on them and work that set down. I don't see a way to set up smart collections to show images that are not in a collection. Looking through help  it appears that the smart collection criteria can be selected from whatever text selection criteria are available, and I don't see inclusion in a collection as one of them. I also don't see collection status as one of the metadata items that could be used to filter things.
    In a previous thread from 2007 I found the following workaround:
    Clear the quick collection and set it to the target collection.
    In the library view, select all the collections. Select all the photos.
    Go to the catalog and view all photos.
    In the Edit menu, click on "invert selection".
    That selects all the images not in a collection. Pressing B puts them in the quick collection.
    The only problem with this is that when you select an image from the quick collection and place it in a collection the image remains in the quick collection. In a smart collection filtered by collection status (not in a collection) it would disappear from the smart collection when it goes into a collection. So it would be much nicer if there were a way to filter for "not in a collection" for a smart collection or even in a metadata filter.
    The above workaround does work, but you will have to refresh the quick collection whenever you lose track of which images you have placed into a collection.
    Of course, the best solution would be not to get into my position in the first place. Always dump the junk out of the catalog and place all the keepers in appropriate collections. It never hurts to have multiple ways of finding something.

    I guess I missed the selection source --> collections in the new smart collection dialog box.
    I tried it out and it almost worked the first time. The number of images shown with all the collections selected plus the number of images listed in the "Not in a collection" smart collection didn't add up to the total number of images. The first thing I had to do was to clear the quick collection, which isn't listed with the collections, but is counted by the filter. That came closer, but didn't quite get them all. The next thing I did was to change the filter criterion to "A E I O U a e i o u 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9" since the filter appears to be case sensitive.
    Now it works fine. Thanks for the new smart collection filter.

  • Workflow suggestions, please - Folder to Collection?

    I need some suggestions please of how to efficiently get images from Folders to Collections.  Within each folder I need to select images and place them in the same collection.
    What I'm currently doing is to set the required Collection as Target Collection.  However, when I select the images in the folder - either all (Ctrl+A) or random (Ctrl + L.click) and then press B, only the first image gets placed in the Target Collection.
    Is this a bug or feature?
    I can work around this by dragging the selected images to the collection but then have to keep switching between the Folders and Collection view.
    Any help would be gratefully received.

    Answered my own question
    The problem for me is that I was using two monitors.
    The second display was set to Grid view and this is where I select the images.  If you then press 'B' to send to the Target Collection then only the first image gets sent.
    If you have Grid View on the first display and then select the images and press 'B'  all the selected images go to the Target Collection.
    The same effect happens with Flagging or setting Colour Labels.  Only first image on second screen (Grid View) but all selected images if on first screen (Grid View)
