Target display is iPad - How do I tell FCE?

I'm creating a family video of some thirty five clips, with one sequence running 11 clips at the same time in different part of he screen.
I want to be sure the video will fill the 1024x768 iPad screen but cannot seem to find where you set the resolution of the target device.
Appreciate any guidance.
Thanks

Easy Setups have two purposes:
• Determining how your video is captured from a camcorder
• Determining the settings for your Sequence(s)
Whenever you create a new sequence, FCE uses the current Easy Setup to create the sequence. So, if your easy setup is DV-PAL, then when you do File > New > Sequence, you get a sequence whose settings are appropriate for DV-PAL (video codec, audio sample rate, frame size, etc.) Your sequence settings determine the underlying characteristics of video you export from FCE.
It sounds like you could use some basic training - here are some very good resources:

  • How Do I Tell FCE to use 16:9 Automatically?

I use a Canon camcorder and when I've imported movies using FCE 4.0.1, I generally haven't had problems with aspect ratios.
At this point all the video I shoot is in 16:9, but sometimes I'm using video a friend shoots.  The aspect ratio was only a problem with one project in the past, and I can't remember what I did to fix it, but it has been working.
Today I took a video file from my friend.  It was in 16:9, 1920x1080, a .mov file, but I'm not sure what the "under the hood" details are.  I imported this file into FCE, then dragged it from the browser to the timeline, did my work, and when exporting, noticed that what I seem to be getting is a 16:9 box with letterboxing and the 16:9 video within that letter boxing -- so I'm squashed and look even more overweight than before.
I did some experimenting and found when I'm working with my own video, as I usually do, it shows up in the canvas window as one 16:9 image, but with my friend's video, it showed up as 4:3 - which I didn't notice because it was letterboxed and the black just seemed to be background.
I found that if I started a new project and dragged in video I knew was 16:9, then deleted that, then dragged in my friend's video, it was treated as true 16:9.  So it seems that FCE determines the aspect ratio of a project according to the first clip dropped into the timeline.
What can I do to tell FCE: "Make all my projects 16:9 unless I say otherwise?"  And is there some way, manually, to tell FCE to make a project either 16:9 or 4:3?  The only way I can find to control the aspect ratio used in a project is by which video I first drop on the timeline.  This is awkward, since it means to start, sometimes I'll have to find and import a clip of the raio I need, then delete it, and start with my project.

Yes you can change the Sequence manually and it is done by selecting an Easy Setup first then starting a NEW Project or Sequence.
There are a variety of Easy Setups to works with various footage from DV, HDV anf AVCHD cameras.
You are correct regarding dropping the first clip into the Timeline, usually you see a message asking to conform the Sequence if it's different to the existing one.
This is an Auto setup of the Easy Setup.
Doing it manually means you know exactly what the camera is sending to FCE and what the FCE Sequence needs to be set to, prior to starting editing.

  • HT4061 I think I have a virus, yesterday I opened this message from verizon about me owning 1,000 to them. and today I have 8 messages from someone on my ipad. how can I tell or fix my ipad of this virus?

I think I have a virus, yesterday I got an email from Verizon that I own $1000 and I tried to open it and now I have 8 emails from the same sender. DO I have a virus and what should I do to clean my ipad?

Chances are your iPad is fine. when you clicked on that e-mail, you confirmed to them 'hey, real person' so now Mr Spammer is working towards his 'make money from home' quota of spam by sending you multiple e-mails. You can block him - I'm not sure what e-mail client you're using so no idea for exact instructions, but you'll probably need to do this on a computer not via the iPad) and you could report him....wouldn't hold my breath that the report will actually accomplish anything beyond the person being blocked.
The iPad's operating system is different from the OS of a PC or Mac. Viruses written for one can't run on the others. (and iPads dont' get viruses in the strictest definition of the term, malicious programs that propogate themselves across the operating system)
The down side, even if you block this person, they know your address is a 'live' one so you'll need to be alert and aware because I'm sure more spam and phising mails are on their way.
If you did enter ANY info, make calls and start changing passwords ASAP.

  • I'm too old to learn iCal.  How do I tell iTunes to synch with Outlook for Mac for all of the Contacts and the Calendar on my iPhone and iPad??  Thanks

I'm too old to learn iCal.  How do I tell iTunes to synch with Outlook for Mac for all of the Contacts and the Calendar on my iPhone and iPad??
Also, once I figure out how to replace iCal with Outlook/Mac on iTunes, how do I synch the phone and pad so that the information on those devices over-writes onto Outlook as a backup, rather than having a blank Calendar on Outlook wipe out all of the information on the phone and pad???
    Thanks

If you haven't tried already, plug your devices into iTunes, and on each device next to the "Summary" tab at the top is another tab called "Info." Click that and scroll down to Contacts, Calendars, etc. There should be a pull down bar under each category for "Sync contacts from..." and you should be able to select from that pull down list Outlook.  Hit Apply at the bottom and see if that does it.

Go to Settings/icloud. The Apple ID at the top of the screen is the only one you need to be concerned about. That one MUST be a working ID, and you must know the password for it, or you will be unable to use the phone if it ever crashes, you want to update it, or you want to sell it.

The amount of storage that is shown on the box and in Settings are calculated differently - the package uses 1 billion bytes as a gig (i.e. decimal), whereas in Settings it's shown as the binary definition : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2419
Also some space has been used for iOS, the built-in app and some space is lost due to formatting.

  • How can I use my 27" iMac (2010) as an additional display to my Windows 7 PC (target display mode)?

So I have purchased a windows machines so that I can play all my favourite games on, and it's not so much a problem rather I have a 27" iMac that I would like to use as an additional monitor for said games.
I have had a look at this article on using the iMac as a display for another computer and things looked promising. I think I need a bit of help getting there though as I can't find definitively anything online to tell me exactly what I need. Most stuff talks about connecting other Apple computers that have mini display ports.
My PC's video card is an nVidia Geforce GTX 650 Ti that sports 2 DVI ports and a mini HDMI port (adaptor to full HDMI was included). The iMac has a mini display port. I went out and got a HDMI cable and Moshi Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (with audio) to try to use the iMac as the additional display. I connected the PC with [a generic] HDMI cable to the adaptor which ran to the iMac and went through the appropriate steps (ie. pressing CMD + F2) to initiate target display mode. Nothing happened.
I have read that other people with different situations tried an SMC reset, but this didn't work for me either.
At this stage I wanted to see if the DVI port would do anything, or perhaps looking at a particular kind of HDMI cable, but wanted to see what the community can offer up as advice.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • I have bought an airport express after being assured that I will be able to print from my IPad. I have installed airport utility on my Hp laptop and it is configured correctly but the printer I have is showing neither on laptop nor on IPad. Can u tell how

I bought an airport express after being assured that I will be able to AirPrint from my IPad. I have set up airport utility on my Hp laptop and configured it properly with the express. But still I'm not able to detect the printer attached to the USB port of airport express, neither on my laptop nor on my IPad. Can someone tell me if and how it can be done?

Who assured you that an AirPort Express would allow you to use AirPrint from an iPad. They were incorrect.
AirPrint from iPads and other iOS devices is only supported on a select few wireless network printers that expressly advertise that feature. An AirPort Express will not add that feature to a printer that does not support AirPrint. Also, for printers that do support AirPrint a wireless access point is not required since the printer needs to support wireless networks connections internally.
The HP laptop should however be able to print to the printer connected to the AirPort Express. Try also installing the Bonjour Print Services for Windows. It will make printer discovery a lot easier when using Bonjour enable devices like an AirPort Express.

  • HT4914 How can you tell which songs are downloaded from the cloud on an ipad

How can you tell which songs are downloaded on the iPad from the cloud?

I know ipad albums are more like tagging photos rather than putting them in folders. I just have a nagging feeling I missed some pics and I have too many to try to go figure out one by one. I don't look at my photos from the camera roll, only from albums I tagged just because I imported photos from different sources and the dates and order is really messed up. I just want to know that I am viewing all the photos from like this vacation or that event and there's none I missed that are only in the camera roll.

How can I tell if my Ipad is about to overcharge?  I can I avoid overcharging it? Thanks!

There are no modern day consumer electronics that you can overcharge... they all have protection for this, i.e. they stop charging when full.  This may not be completely true for some really cheap Chinese knock-offs.

  • How Can I Tell if My iPad Air Replacement is New or Refurbished

I'm getting a replacement iPad Air because mine had a problem with it, there were loose magnets in it. I've heard that people have another person's data on apps they have just downloaded and that makes me really uncomfortable.
How can I tell if my replacement is brand new or just refurbished? Is there info in the serial/model number?
    Thanks.

You might hear a lot of things on the Internet but that doesn't make them true.
If you got a refurbished iPad from Apple it would be completely empty.
Refurbished iPads are identified on the packaging.
You can see the model number in Settings > Genera l> About > Model. The model number has a two-letter code, a number and some more letters. The last part stands for the country/region. The first letter can be "F" (refurbished), "M" (normal retail), or "P" (personalized / engraved).
