When I open Host home page I get error message:

I have 6 hosts HP-UX IA64. 2 hosts whith this error. 4 working fine.
I tried to remove and add host terget, agent reinstallation. Error still.
How to fix it?
Yes,
I am able to ping the server. I can also telnet to the server. But, I cannot tnsping. I even set up an environment variable: c:\ora805\net80\admin\tnsnames.ora.

I am not sure if the first 3 connection entries are even needed in here, are they?

Thank you both for your responses, my findings are as follows:
1. HOST=X.X.COM, ensure host is reachable : PING works and host(s) are reachable.
2. In RAC Env, ensure TNS Name is correctly spelled, spelling fine, i can connect with the tns name (is TNS name same as SERVICE_NAME?) by: sqlplus 'user/user@racenv'; but my efforts still will not allow me to use:
sqlplus 'user/user' it tells me that the host or object is does not exist, does this refer to the actual physical machine or the service name, or the instance name?
All host entries in my tnsnames.ora file refer to the vip addresses of both servers holding the rac installation, and both are resolved just fine, testing with ping; any other way to test this?
tnsnames file contains CONNECTION strings in the following order (does the listener entry need to be in the file? on the machine that i am trying to connect from?):

My database is in RAC on a RHEL 5 and oracle 10.2.0.4 release, when i connect from client at the first time it's connected and after exit and connect again it gives the error ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist. and trying to tnsping i can reach the server and connect again it's connected and after disconnect and reconnect it gives the same error.

Hi All,
We are using Oracle EBS R12 on Linux x86 Enterprise Server.
We have installed vision database (both apps and db on same machine)
Host name: ERPDEV
IP:192.168.1.211
We can connect from client machines to our database using sqlplus i.e.
sqlplus apps/****@vision
Similarly tnsping is also successfully returning results.
Also following commands are returning results
ping erpdev
ping 192.168.1.211
ping erpdev.domainname.com
All above commands are running fine.
However we are trying to create new "Legal Address Entry" through "Legal Entry Manager". After filling all the details like Location,Country,City etc, when I push the apply button, getting following error messages:
ORA-29273: HTTP request failed ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_HTTP", line 1674 ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist in Package xle_legal_address_swi Procedure create_legal_address
I dont know why this ORA-12545 error is occuring through application although all of the above tests are running fine from client terminals.
Do any one have any solution for this???

or simply ping the server.
if client able to communicate server then check HOSTNAME in listener.ora
is represting correctly your Host.
is hostname map with virtual ip in host file of Operating System if not using DNS.
check ur hostname with command hostname.

I've installed XE 10.2 under Fedora Core 7 from the downloaded .rpm. The RPM installs fine, and I've run the config from the command line. I've edited my bash file to load the environment variables. Here's my hosts file:

Hi,
Problem with Rman catalog and target database listener...
My target is running 9.2 in Linux. Rman catalog in Windows 2000..
from my catalog host, I am able to connect the target only if my target is mounted.If it is shutdown or in nomount stage, lsnrctl status says status BLOCKED
and thus, I can't connect from my catalog.
And even I can't connect as sysdba from sqlplus..
Error says : ORA-12523 Listener Could not find instance appropriate for the client connection..
If I try to shutdown and start my target from rman (if the target is on), I am getting disconnected after shutting down the target database telling I m not connected to the target..
Any Help??I don't understand why do you need to connect from your catalog host ( i mean the box where is running the database containing the RMAN catalog ) to the target database, especially when the target database is not mounted. You must launch RMAN on target database and must be able to connect from the target host to the catalog database.

"Connect Failed" error may be related to the resolution of the name of your hosts. In this case, the client is not able to resolve the names of the database servers to the corresponding IP addresses. To resolve this issue you may;
1. Make your client host a DNS client and enter the name entries for the database servers to the DNS server.
or
2. You may enter this information into your client's local hosts file. This is /etc/hosts in UNIX and like operating systems.
If this doesn't help, please let me know so i can suggest you a few more things to implement.

I installed ODT 10.2.0.2.20 and I'm trying to debug a SP in VS2005. I have followed the instructions at http://cshay.blogspot.com/2006/07/plsql-debugger-in-visual-studio.html
I am able to debug SP using the "Run debug" in the Oracle Explorer however I am not able to get any "live data" debugging working in a Winforms application.
my problem is that whenever my application tries to open a connection I get the following error message:

There is one other bug that sometimes catches people... you can follow along the steps I provided in this thread and see if ORA_DEBUG_JDWP is getting corrupted as it is passed from Visual Studio to the database:

How many $Target/Host or $Target/Host/Host ... etc do you need to go

Can someone please help me with the following question as I am learning authoring at the moment, thanks
I see from Brian videos that some times you need to use just $Target/Property... and other times $Target/Host/Property...
or even $Target/Host/Host/Property... and so on.
I get the idea (or at least I think I do), in as much as the further you are away from the Host (e.g. the deeper down embedded in the XML) you have to step back up using Host or Host/Host etc. a bit like when transversing a file system using ..\.. or ..\..\..
So for a registry discovery you would say $Target/Host/Property... e.g. use Host one time.
My question is.
is this always the case for a discovery?
How do I know when I should use $Target/Property and when to use $Target/Host and $Target/Host/Host etc.. is there any easy well to tell?
