Tascam US-2400 with Mackie C4 and Logic

Anybody using Logic with Tascam US-2400 (USB) control surface and a Mackie Control C4 plug–in controller (MIDI) at the same time?
Wonder if there would be a conflict using both, but seems like a nice Logic setup if it could work.

Typically, its not about if a piece of hardware works with LPX.. It's whether or not it works with 10.8.x and if the Devs have written drivers that are compatible with 10.8.x that really matters....
In the case of Tascam, sadly, they don't have a good track record of providing support for newer OS X versions and instead just "end of life' their older products....
You will see from the following thread that the problem caused by Tascam not providing updated drivers for Mountain Lion, affects other DAWs Like PT and not just Logic...
http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=342253
As for the 2400 and ML 10.8.4 itself...
At the moment, there doesn't appear to be anything new forthcoming from Tascam.... and they are not being overly helpful in regards to the non compatibility issues of the 2400 and ML 10.8.4 because as far as they are concerned they have "end of life"d that model...... Contact Tascam to register your wishes for a ML 10.8.4 driver.. Maybe if enough users do so, they might have a change of heart.. but based on their past history, I wouldn't hold my breath.
A few users have reported that they got their 2400 working under ML 10.8.2 but when asked how, none have been forthcoming with any answers.. The majorityof 2400 owners have stated its basically a 'no go' in regards to things like Fader movement etc... even using HUI compatibility mode... under Mountain Lion and have either moved on to new hardware that is fully supported under 10.8.x or have rolled back to 10.6.8 and Logic Pro 9 or whatever other DAW they use that works under Snow Leopard.
Finally, Apple made a mistake including the 2400 as a 'supported' hardware in the info for LPX and ML.... (They just copied the list over from the one they used with LP9 and Snow Leopard) They have since suggested that they will be updating the list and the 2400 will be removed from that list as Tascam are seemingly not intending to update their drivers for it any further....

  • Problems with Presonus Firestudio and Logic

I am having problems with compatability with my brand new Presonus Firestudio recording interface and Logic pro 8. I am new to logic but not to home recording, and i cant understand what might be the problem. When i use the firestudio with garageband it works easily. In the garageband sound preferences there are input AND output channels that the user can define. (i.e. you can set your input channels to come from the firestudio while the output channels go to the computer speakers or headphone jacks or whatever you define it as).
From what i have seen in logic, there is only one option for your audio settings. when in preferences and under audio, there is a "device" setting in which you can define your audio device. Wheather this is input AND output for the program, i do not know. but the problem i am experiencing is that whenever i choose the firepod as the input device, no sound from logic will play from the speakers whatsoever. My first thought was that maybe ouput was going straight to the firestudio, but after plugging headphones into it this also did not work. Has anyone had success getting their firestudio to work in logic? if so let me know what settings you had to use, and how you got to moniter your input from from the firestudio via your computer.
    p.s.
another WIERD problem i have run into, is that if i shut off the firestudio while logic is open, alot of times it will shut down my whole computer. i have never heard of this happening. what am i doing wrong?
    thanks!

ah, I was hoping to find my solution here, but alas the thread is gone...
I recently bought a Macbook running Leopard, and am having difficulties with my PreSonus Firestudio Project thru Logic and Mainstage. I can get audio input and output just fine, but there's a ton of distortion/crackle. Kickstarting the sample rate seems to clear it up for a minute or two, but then the crackle comes back. The recorded tracks sound clean if I unplug the Firestudio, so apparently it's only in the monitoring stage?
On the PreSonus board, they're claiming it's Apple who needs to update drivers for Leopard; PreSonus says the "Firestudio Project is Leopard compatible."

  • Any experience mixing with VRM box and Logic?

I was interested in anyone's experience using Focusrite's VRM box and Logic.

Someone mentioned the BSF2000. I have the same and it is very useful.
In the default BSF mode there is no feedback into the sliders (they don't move with existing automation), however you can send up to 117 CCs, PCs and some other kinds of data on each preset from up to 16 MIDI chanels and Logic picks them all up with no problems.
However, you can start the BCF 2000 in Logic Control mode, (for those who have BCF 2000 and haven't seen this option yet, swith off the BCF 2000, then swith on holding down the 3rd upper button– the one just below the Parameter rotary controller. When you start the display will show LC instead of bC. To return to BCF mode, restart holding the 1st upper button, the one just below the Type rotary control.) install the Logic control driver in Logic and you have feedback into the faders and rotary controls. The downside of the Logic Control mode is that is doesn't have instructions and I've spent days trying to work out what all the presets are.
Remeber too in BCF2000 mode you can not only use the controls to manage automation of ANY midi parameter, but you can also use them to replace keystroke shortcuts. eg I have one button that toggles all tracks between latch and read, another that moves through screen sets another that shows and hides global tracks etc.
    Well worth every penny.

  • Serious issues with motu interface and logic, advice?

i use a motu 828 mk2, updated to logic pro 7 from 6, everything worked fine for awhile. Sometimes I can spend hours playing and recording software instruments before the program malfunctions. All of a sudden the audio being played becomes out of tune and crackly, fading in and out. Then the screen of the motu begins flipping out, the faders become dim and move kinda erratic and sometimes theres letters that appear NIAG. If I save and close logic, turn off the interface then back on again the problem is gone. (actually sometimes it will work fine again and others it won't. Right now for example I will use logic for a minute and then it comes back again. I keep up on all the mac and logic updates. does my computer cause the problem to the interface or vice versa. Is the interface broke? Do I have the wrong driver?( I downloaded it from motu so I don't believe thats the case). does it have to do with the way all my folders are organized on the hard drive? Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? No? who else could I ask. motu's forum wasn't much help. I almost want to call the geek squad or something like that but I thought all you could give me some ideas. thank you for reading this. I really hope someone replies, even if it's to say which set up you have that works fine, maybe I'll reconsider mine.

Hey, thanks for the tip. Though, that didn't work. How frustrating, The same problem has occured. Today is the fourth day in a row that I can't use logic. In the past it would act up for a day two then work again. Tuesday ( tomorrow) I'm supposed to have a recording session, It doesn't look too hopeful that this issue will be resolved. Please , if anyone has another suggestion I would greatly appreciate it. Maybe some ideas to isolate the problem. does anyone out there use an mk2? I lost my install disk and downloaded the driver from motu's website, could their universal driver be the problem? I'm getting pretty burnt out with this b/s. Maybe resetting something in logic would help. Any ideas. thank you. I think any response could help.

  • Issue with Axiom 25 and Logic 9/9.01

New user here of Logic 9 and now Logic 9.01. Yesterday I received the M-Audio Axiom 25. I've noticed on certain plug-in patches I'm getting static (or sounds like digital distortion) with Massive, Mtron etc...Some of the patches are fine but a number of them sound highly distorted. Anyone else experiencing this issue or has any insight as to what the problem may be? Thanks.

I would say I'm somewhat disappointed that with 171 views not one person has made any suggestions for this issue. Well I ended up resolving my own issue! Turns out that this issue was being caused by use of a sample rate of 192khz with my Motu Ultralite mk3. Once I dropped the sample rate down to 9600 all the distortion was gone. Now to be fair, I presently reverted back to OSX 10.5.7 for testing purposes, but it behaved exactly the same as it did in OSX 10.6.1. So my bet is all along the issue has been the high sample rate of 192 causing the problems with 3rd Party apps (Massive) etc.... Interesting, that I don't notice these distortion issues at 192 with the instruments/sounds in Logic 9. Oh well, I'm glad it is resolved, now on to making music!

  • Multiple Monitor control with Mackie Control and Behringer DEQ2496

    Hi,
I have recently moved over to Logic from Cubase due to the support for Mackie's C4 control. In Cubase I was used to having really excellent monitoring options but I have found this really lacking in Logic - maybe I'm missing a trick or two.
What I'd really like to do is at the click of a button, preferably on my Mackie Control, switch between monitor speakers.
If possible, I'd also like to be able to change the program via a MIDI program change on my Behringer DEQ2496 graphic eq as I have different settings for both sets of monitors - is there some kind of macro functionality that could do this?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Answering my own question.  Apparently, I had substituted one bad Midi interface for another. In a desparate move, I picked up a MIDISPORT UNO (took out the Korg PadKontrol) and problem resolved.  The MIDI OUT port on the PadKontrol introduces big time latency.

  • Having trouble with condenser microphone and Logic Pro. please help

I purchased a condenser microphone that runs only with phantom power. I have an XLR cable from the mic into the phantom power interface and have an XLR to USB plugged into my computer, when i go to logic audio preferences it doesnt show that the microphone is even connected (ive checked input and output). Ive even tried it on other programs and i still get nothing. Please Help.

I have an XLR cable from the mic into the phantom power interface
What phantom interface is this, make and model.
XLR to USB plugged into my computer
What is this? Just a cable?
    What microphone is it?
Trying to get an idea of your signal chain as, in your original post, your signal chain makes little sense. Do you have an audio interface or is that the phantom power interface you are referring to? A microphone isn't an interface and a mic, in itself, won't show up in Logic prefs (unless it was a USB mic, which it is not).

  • Bank Select with Famton X7 and Logic Sttudio

    Hi,
I'm a new user of Logic Studio and of this forum ... but I'm familiar with MIDI.
My Question: How can I send the right MSB and LSB for a program change to the Roland Fantom X?
For example the Patch *PRA 001* (So far ...)
There is only one Program Box in a track. I see no possibility to send these two Midi numbers together with my program number ...
this problem - with your help - will not be a big problem I hope ...
Many thanks in advance for your ansers.
    Greetings
    - Frank Schweizer

    Hi Frank
In the instruments parameters box to the left of the arrange window you see the word program and a check box. Check that box to enable program changes. just to the right of the check box (by default) is a small dash - click there to select your bank change command. and just to the right of it, you see a 0 and an up and down arrow, there is where you choose your program change
By default when you set up and instrument it uses control 0 and 32 for bank select commands, which I believe is standard for Roland. If yours is something other than that you can assign custom bank change messages in the environment
    Hope this helps

  • Distortion with USB mic and Logic Pro/Garage Band

I have read a ton of posts, but I have yet to find an answer to this question. I have a USB mic that used to work wonderfully before upgrading to Leopard. When I make a recording now, it usually works well for about 5 minutes, and then out of nowhere I get horrible distortion. I have read that if I changed the frequency from 48000Hz to 44000Hz it would correct the problem. It seemed to work, but the problem keeps coming back. If I switch the microphone profile from built-in mic back to USB Mic in Preferences>Audio, it corrects the problem for a little while. It happens in Logic, Garageband and any other program that I try to record to.
I read in a Leopard update note that one of the past few upgrades was supposed to fix this issue, but it hasn't been fixed for me. Does anybody know of any solution to this problem? I would be greatly indebted to you!

Nope. The larger buffer didn't work. What did work was running a cord out of the 1/4-inch jack from the direct box to a 1/4-to-1/8-inch adapter and then into the mic/line-in jack on my computer. I set GarageBand to use the built-in line-in and had no static problems. It's a stopgap until this gets fixed.
A post by LinuxMercedes on Oct. 3 at http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8158914 may provide a solution.

  • [LP 7.2] Tascam US-2400 detected as both Native and MCU + XT.  Help.

I just purchased Logic Pro 7.2 last week and for whatever reason my Tascam Us-2400, which has the latest firmware and is set for Native (Send + AUX5) mode, is detected twice when I launch Logic Pro 7.2. LP sees it first as a US-2400 Native and then also as a Mackie Control Universal + 2 Extenders. With all of this overlap I am unable to use the US-2400 in Native Mode and have reverted to Logic/MCU mode for now and it works, but I lose some key functionality compared to Native Mode.
Has anyone else ever experienced this? I've seatched around and cannot find any additional information. Any help would be appreciated!
    Regards,
    Mark

Doh! Nevermind. Tascam PDF says to use SEND + AUX 5 to put the US-2400 in Native mode, but the latest/greatest info on the Tascam web site says to use SELECT + CHAN if using Logic 7.1 or later. Works perfect.

  • Anyone using Tascam DM-3200 with Logic

Anyone using the Tascam DM-3200 with Logic? Sure seems like an easy solution combination of converters and DAW control, plus onboard effects.

    Hey Joseph,
I have this combination. I like it so far. I'm not really a "mixer" person but I am resolute in learning how to use this thing in depth!
Anyways, as far as controlling Logic, I got it working pretty easily. It seems that the faders don't seem as "sensitive" as my Logic Control (I think I mean resolution, perhaps?). I also have not played with the Tascam enough to know what other features are mapped out besides just level faders. It is very easy to switch between a fader layer and the Mackie control layer: just one button press. One thing though is if I have logic set to auto-sync in, and play, it will receive some timecode from somewhere and then stop after 2 bars. Don't know why this is, and it means I'll have to disable the Tascam's midi if I want to sync Logic to, say, Protools.
I connect my old 828 via Adat to Tascam and it sounds so much better than the Analog ins to the Tascam, so I'm happy about that. I have also the 8 Analog input card so I have a total of 24 Analog Ins which is nice too.
If you have any specific questions, I'll try to asnwer them, but so far, i like the combination a lot. My one complaint - they put the Control Room volume way up at the top of the mixer. My keyboard (Roland XV88) protrudes a bit from the front of the mixer, so i can see myself getting back spasms if I reach that volume control a lot!! I guess I'm shorter than the average user! Anyways, the mixer sounds good enogh to my ears.
    Cheers
    Ken
PS The manuals for the mixer are at Tascam's website. You can also take a peek at them to get a sense how things are setup.

  • Problem with Fader Banks and Channel in MCU PRO with Logic Pro X

I purchased a Mackie Control Universal Pro earlier this week, and I have talked with Mackie support techs twice and they have not been able to help me. My problem is that everything seems to work well with Logic X talking with the MCU with the exeption that the Fader Banks function will not move left to channels 1-8, they are stuck at channel 9-16, and will move to the right on to 17-24 and so on,  but it doesnt move to 1-8 when the left fader bank motor is pressed.  However when you toggle tany channel 1-8 levers on the computer screen, the corresponding lever on the Mackie goes up and down,  but the reverse does not occur. The Mackie folks say this is a problem with Logic Pro X, not the MCU.  Perhaps they are correct,  because I still have Logic Express on my Mac and when I close Logic X and Open Logic Express the fader banks move perfectly from 1-8, 9-16, and so on as do the tracks.   My computer is update with Mavericks.
I would appreciate any help! I am not a techie, an old guy who used to record on 4 track computers, and want to get away from a mouse control,  but I'm going to take the Mackie MCU back if I cant get this straight,  I've spent a lot of time on this.  Help!

thank you Pete in Denver,  I actually made some progress today, in setting up the control surface of the Logic Pro Control Surfaces Support Manual, around page sixteen gave me a partial answer.  I had the Mackie icon first, then the Logic Control,  and it said to drag and drop the preferred icon to the left or first place.  that solved my not being able to access channels 1-8, I was able to press the fader bank left button and - voila!.  so that saved my initial problem,  but I still have some issues in moving faders and banks in existing projects,  some tracks show up lit up in the tan colors others don't,  but that is probably due to the way i would move tracks around once I received tracks on drop box from a friend and created new tracks, and I changed a lot of the order of the tracks.  ANyway.  I did make progress.  Thanks!

    It's not crap at all.
It's not that simple. For example, I've 3500 songs on my MacBook but don't want them all on my phone, so I have to manually select each song again???
There has to be a solution.
Why not simply make a playlist with the songs you want on the iPhone?
and maintain a current backup of your computer.
