  • Firefox runs in background (appear in Task Manager Processes Tab) only and does not appear on Desktop

I have been using Firefox on my Desktop PC with Windows XP for a long time. However, today possibly due to some virus (I attached an infected flash drive to my PC) a suspicious change in homepage (www.delta-homes.com) of my firefox occurred. Simultaneously an error message of "WinZip" appeared on screen. I figured that there must be some software in "C:\Program Files\" which is also causing problem to my firefox. I opened Program Files and removed that folder named WinZip. (Tried to uninstall it but it won't happen so I had to use "Unlocker" to kill processes this folder was associated with and then deleted the folder.)
From that point onward, My FireFox started to behave weird. Whenever I click on Firefox icon or access firefox.exe from any source (start menu, quick launch, program files, Run Command), it starts but appears only in "Task Manager Processes Tab". In that Processes Tab, firefox.exe is continuously using 50% of CPU but it does not appear on Desktop at all.
To go a step further, I uninstalled firefox and tried to re-download from Firefox official website but the download fails in the start saying "Download is interrupted". (See attached Image). So I downloaded a previous version of Firefox (v 34.0) from www.filehippo.com and installed it but the same problem is happening with this version too.
I am confused and surprised what might be causing this problem. Everything else on PC running fine. Kindly help me restore my Firefox so that I may not lose any precious Bookmarks, Settings and other Data. thanks

  • How to close Acrobat.exe from the task manager processes through plug-in?

I have a plug-in in which we have a functionality of defining some keys and they are displayed as annotations on the PDF. Now, if the user defines such a key, an annot (i.e.a rectangular box) gets displayed on the PDF and if the user does not click custom menu say 'Close Key' then annot remains visible on the PDF.
My problem is if in such a case i.e. the user has defined a key & if the user does not hit 'Close Key' and instead closes Acrobat by directly hitting close (i.e. [X] button at top right corner), then Acrobat exits; but the Acrobat.exe remains running in the Processes.
If the user tries to open the same PDF again then a message pops up saying 'Cannot open file for viewing as its already in use...'.
Note that any other PDF gets opened fine.
Could somebody help me in giving me any ideas/suggestions on this? I want to exit the acrobat.exe from the processes so that the same PDF could get opened. As described above, the cause is the key (annot) was opened and user abrubtly exited Acrobat. Is there a way, that we could catch this Acrobat exit event in the plug-in? That way, I'd be able to clear off the annot (key) and then close acrobat.
    Please let me know asap.

Hey, tnx for ur response! But, the issue is reproducible on Acrobat 7.0 Professional.
I do have the 'WillClose' event registered in my plug-in. Below is the event that is wired up with 'WillClose' event:-
    static
    ACCB1 void ACCB2 NotifyAVWillClose (AVDoc doc, void *clientData){
    UNREFERENCED_PARAMETER(clientData);
    UNREFERENCED_PARAMETER(doc);
    CloseTemplate(TRUE);
The 'CloseTemplate' method performs the closing of the annotation, clearing of objects and deleting the PDFfile class pointer.
And this all works fine with Acrobat.exe getting closed from the task manager processes in acrobat versions 8 & 9. However, in Acrobat 7.0, the process remains in the Task Manager.
Could you suggest any ideas on what else needs to be implemented to end the process in Acrobat 7?
    Thanks!

  • Sir my firefox is mot starting.. whin i check in task manager processes it is running in background....please tell me what i do .......

when i double click on icon it will not open......
when i check in task manager processes it will be seen .....
what i do..... i have many passwords stored in firefox..... what i do please tell me ....

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • I-tunes 10.2 will not Launch, but appears in Task Manager Processes

    Hi all,
apologies for the repost here, but i have yet to find a solution and im new to the boards (i hope im not breaking etiquette!)
My problem is with Itunes not launching in windows 7 64 bit.
    * I have uninstalled/reinstalled all itunes/quicktime components - no luck
    * I have tried disableing the bonjour service - no luck
    * When i try to launch the application it shows in task manager as a running 32bit process, but there is no GUI.
    * I have tried a new user account, no luck
    * I have gone through the apple support suggestions around launch issues
    * I have run msconfig and closed off all processes bar itunes, still no luck.
    * I have deleted the itunes config files.
    * I have tried loading with another library.
    * I have updated windows with all updates and SP1.
    * i have tried to download an old version of itunes and install it, and even now it wont work!
At this stage i have tried every suggestion on every forum i can find, barring two that i found this morning which i will try in an hour or twos time (im in work haha), 1 - to simply repair the installations of itunes/Qt/Bonjour, i think thats a longshot, and 2 - to delete replace the icuuc40.dll file with a version from an older release of ITunes.
im beginning to think that i-tunes 10.2 just doesnt work on the windows 64bit OS! At this stage im thinking ill have to use songbird or winamp to transfer files to my apple devices, what a shocker.
I would greatly greatly appreciate any help or advice anyone can offer as im pretty stressed about it now!
    Many thanks,
    Dave
p.s. as ive ran a clean boot is it fair to say that its not a conflict issue?

Wow, Amzingly guys i think ive stumbled upon a solution. i used system config (msconfig) to reboot stooping all startups and all service (hiding microsoft serviced before disabling all)
upon reboot i ran itunes... nothing happened and i went into control panel, thinking id uninstall some bits n pieces... 5 minutes later i was prompted from itunes telling me that bonjour was inactive and asking if i wanted itunes to attempt a repair, i said yes. Sure enough a couple of minutes later itunes was up and running.. i had hope.
I used MSconfig to reinstate a normal startup.
And sure enough itunes seems to be working fine now.
This was an UBER frustrating time. I hope my post might help SOMEbody out there!
    regards

  • Firefox won't start. The program is running in the task manager processes, but the application won't open. I have restarted the computer, uninstalled and reinstalled, now I am lost!!!

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop running Windows Vista Home edition. Firefox was working properly just as it has for years. All of a sudden when you click on the icon, nothing appears. I open task manager, no applications show. I go to processes, there is firefox32. I kill the process and start over...endless loop. I shut the computer down and restarted. Same issue. I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled, same issue. I idon't know what else to try.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Why do I have 2, 3, 4 copies of Firefox shown in Windows Task Manager Processes Tab?

After a few days, Firefox will get real slow, has lots of disk activity when opening a new Tab or going to another website. When I look in Task Manager, I'll see as many as 4 instances of Firefox in the Processes Tab. Even if I restart Firefox, some or all of these processes remain and I have to manually stop them to get Firefox back to speed. What is wrong or is it something I'm doing?

    Hello there,
You can test to see whether one of your plugins is causing Firefox to use too much memory by selectively disabling some of them:
    1. Click the menu button and choose Add-ons.
    2. In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Plugins panel.
    3. Click on a plugin in the list to select it, then select Never Activate to disable it.
Repeat for some of the plugins in your list.
After disabling some of your plugins, close and restart Firefox, and observe its memory usage. If you don't see an improvement, you can enable those plugins again and try with a different set.
If none of the above solutions work then please see: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-uses-too-much-memory-ram
    Hope this helps!

  • When firefox is closed and all I see is desktop, if I look at Task Manager, processes, Firefox is running and utilizing about a gig of memory. If I try to open firefox a box comes up saying firefox is running and must be closed first?

This appears to have begun happening about the time of the Plug in container, but that is a guess. I do experience more firefox crashes now though. I just closed every item on my computer, was looking at desktop on screen, hit task manager then processes and FireFox is still running (as is plug in) along with other processes.
This is a bit perplexing. I am not an IT expert, but not computer illiterate. Any help will be appreciated

This link should help - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs#Hang_at_exit
You have old versions of Flash and Java plugins, yous should update them to see if that solves your problem.
You can get Java from http://java.com/
For Flash I prefer using the manual installer, for details see http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html#main_ManualInstaller

  • In task manager, process is named xxfirefox.exe is this legit ?

Upgraded to Firefox 9, When I look at Task Manager, the name is XXFIREFOX.exe. Has Firefox been hijacked or is this the new v4 name?

The main Firefox process is still named '''firefox.exe''' in 32-bit Windows Operating Systems.
I would be very suspicious of a process named XXFIREFOX.exe. My advice is to run a full scan with your anti-virus application, and if that doesn't find a problem do a "Search > For Files & Folders" for that executable.

  • Firefox won't start, no error message, firefox.exe showing in Task Manager Processes

Firefox (v3.6.6 on Windows Vista) will not open. When the icon is clicked, the hourglass shows for a few seconds, goes away, and nothing else happens. There are no error messages. 'firefox.exe' shows on the Task Managers Processes tab. I also cannot open Firefox in SafeMode or with the ProfileManager.
I have tried restarting the computer, uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, deleting my firefox profile. I have tried all of these things multiple times in different orders with no results.
    Please Help!

dmcritchie, thank you for your reply!
Before I received your response, I tried something that seems to have worked. I used Chrome to go to the Firefox website and downloaded Firefox (without uninstalling it first) and went through the installation process again. For some reason, this worked, even though I already had the latest version of Firefox, and I can now open Firefox successfully.
If it stops working again, I will try your suggestion. In the meantime, thank you much!

  • Task Manager Process failing along w/ Hello World example

    Hello Edwin,
Thank you very much for the word document on how to install Oracle BPEL into the oracle database. I was able to install according to your word document into my oracle 10g database. I have other problems though. When starting up the BPEL Process Manager, it gives me the following error message in the console:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/xerces/xni/XNIException
I guess this in turn leads to the TaskManager process failing as it has a yellow exclamation point next to it in the BPEL Console. The oc4j console window later displays this error message:
    04/08/07 13:25:01 java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: bpel._1_0.TaskManager__BPEL4WS_BIN
    Error while creating process.
An error has occurred while attempting to instantiate the class "bpel._1_0.TaskM
anager__BPEL4WS_BIN" for the process "TaskManager" (revision "1.0"). The exception reported was: bpel._1_0.TaskManager__BPEL4WS_BIN
Please try recompiling your BPEL process again. The current BPEL process archive "TaskManager" may have been compiled with an older version of "bpelc".
An error message similar to this occurs when I try and work through the "Hello World" tutorial. Any idea why these error messages are occuring? "classnotfound" exceptions tell me there is a classpath issue. Thanks for your help.
    Kenny R.

    Edwin,
Nevermind. I fixed it. I just copied the xercesImpl.jar file to the %ORABPEL_HOME%/system/appserver/oc4j/j2ee/home/applib directory and the processes function fine now. Thanks. Is this a bug that I found? Or was something messed up with my initial installation?

  • Firefox 6.02 became non responsive in my XP SP3. Once started, never respond to second click and dragging. Can't be closed in Task manager process. Still there after reboot. Only can be stop by shutting PC down and wait a few minutes. !How to fix it?

At the same time; both Chrome; IE8 and Opera remain working. Whenever it became non responsive, there is no way to stop the process unless I turn the PC off completely(and it drag this process too). I reinstalled a few times but problem remains. It even drag the PC reboot .

  • Firefox froze up. So I removed from computer and reloaded. If I close Firefox, can't restart by clicking on the icon. Have to end process in Task Manager. It then starts. Some links on some web pages won't work.

    Hi,
As I say in the question I don't know what happened but Firefox just stopped operating and then became erratic. So I removed the firefox programme from my computer and reloaded Firefox.
It now runs normally but I can't run Firefox on two tabs, only one, and if I close it down during a session I can't reopen it using the desk top icon. I go to task manager, processes, and end process for Firefox - then I can start it using the icon on the desktop.
I have also noticed that some links on a web page won't work - javascript is involved.
    Thanks for your herlp,
    Mike FD

It sounds like you are getting in a hurry.
If you force Firefox to close in a hurry, then it won't normally start until you re-start the computer. There are ways around this, but I'm not going to go into them right now.
None-force way to close Firefox down: Close the program and wait. Do something else. Firefox appears as if it is closed, but it's not. Firefox cleans out cookies and it's cache after you close it. That takes a few minutes. You can't restart it while it's doing house cleaning.
After it is done, then you can restart Firefox normally. You can watch it in the Task Manager.
The same applies if you are installing javascript. You have to wait a few minutes.
As for running it with multiple tabs, I usually have 5 or 6, or more, tabs open at a time. Have no idea what the problem is there. Firefox needs special permission by use of a pop-up option to close with multiple tabs open.

  • I am having to run v3.5.10 because even now with latest 3.6 that version - every 30 seconds or so I hear a process open and then close. Can't track it down even in task manager - too brief but it's insistent! So stuck having to use 3.5

I have to use V3.5.10 despite wanting to run 3.6 (just updated to 3.6.6 too). However when I run 3.6 I hear thru my sounds set up a process open briefly and then close every 30 seconds or so - it's very regular and insistent and I'd like to know what it is and why. It's too brief to spot in Task manager processes listing. This did happen once under 3.5 I seem to recall but was cured when it upgraded.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Pretty much soon after I first applied and ran 3.6

My Win sounds give me a sound each time an app or process opens and another when it closes - thus I know from that any time something happens.
I have 3.6.6 on as well as 3.5.10 - so can run either. But running .3.6.6 despite being update still has this odd process open and close every half minute.

  • Multiple instances of firefox in task manager but FF doesn't open

    - Windows XP SP3 (up to date with all critical updates)
    - FireFox 25.0.1 (Note: Originally I had version 31 but a few days ago that stopped working)
    - Norton Security Suite (the comcast version) up to date
    - I have IE6 and Chrome 37 as backup browsers (Note: when FF stopped working, IE8 had also stopped working - page would open, only one system process, but page would never load)
    Ran the following scans:
    - SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition
    - Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    - Ad-Aware Antivirus
    - Spybot-S&D Start Center
Found a few non-critical yet potential infections (nothing too crazy)
    Symptom persists as follows:
    - fresh boot of computer
    - open task manager (no instances of FF)
    - open firefox - process appears in task manager and immediately goes to 50%
(nothing opens and nothing listed in Applications)
    - open a second instance of firefox - 2nd process appears in task manager
(still nothing opens and neither instance appears in Applications
(the two instances continue to run at a cumulative 50% CPU usage - one might be 15% and the other running at 35% - or both running at 25% each)
    - open a third instance of firefox
(still nothing opens, and all three instances show in task manager processes and cumulatively run at 50% - example:15 +15 + 20 or 10 + 15 + 25)
    Troubleshooting:
restored a drive image from May 2014
    - Note: Dec 2013 I had done a complete FRESH new install of Windows XP in prep for EOL and installed all updates, including SP3, so the image I chose from May was only 5 months old, but I chose that one because of some of the other programs I had installed that month and didn't want to go through that again
    - Note #2: I have drive image run a monthly PQI backup of my C: drive and my R: drive) I have two hard drives 300G each whereas C: drive is OS only and R: drive is all my downloads, my documents, my photos, etc)
    - after the image restored, I tried to open FF and IE8, neither app was problematic. FF auto updated from what version, I don't know, but it was on 31 when I realized the problem was BACK. Also ran some WIN critical updates, and IE8 stopped working too!
uninstalled IE8 (rolled back to IE6 and now IE works - but obviously I can not live with IE6 - I need to update that!) uninstalled FF31 (and deleted all temp and profile account folders) and installed a brand new copy of FF25 - whereas I immediately force stopped autoupdater and deleted the update files so I could remain on FF25.
Now FF25 will open only on the second instance of the process (the first will always go to 50% CPU, the second will open and run between 0 and 10 CPU, and only one application in Applications)
    - I have learned that I can kill the 50% process using task manager or process explorer and total CPU usage will drop down to 0% - 10%
I can open many many tabs without any problems, and I can right click a link to open a new window and all is good, BUT if I use the desktop ICON, the quick launch ICON or the START > Programs > Icon, then the NEXT process will go to 50% and no second window will open
I have seen dozens of forums that have reported similar memory issues, but none have been resolved.
Can you help me? I don't want to upgrade IE6 to IE8 just yet, but I will not use it for anything but testing until I can upgrade. Note: besides being painfully slow, I have been switching to Chrome, but I have never enjoyed Chrome.... I am using FF right now to ask for help.
    Any suggestions?

I have the "techie" answer for all of you. According to the tier 2 support at Norton Help Desk, the latest live update from Norton "utilizes Visual Studio 2012 which enables SSE2 instructions" and my processor can not handle that.
He said they are "working on a solution" and offered to reply back on Wednesday / Thursday this week if a solution could be found...
