Taskbar buttons

On my laptop, my taskbar disappears unless I have my language
bar/google search thing on. The buttons on the taskbar do not come
up. I wil pull up a program (like Internet explorer, for example),
and it does not make a taskbar button. If I minimize it, I have to
go to the Task Manager to pull it back up. I have searched all over
my computer, but cannot find a way to bring my buttons on. I have
seen ways to fix it, but they use terms that I do not understand.
If you know what wrong with it, and can simplify the solution, your
reply would be of great help. :)

Taskbar down the bottom? or menu bar at the top?
If up the top right click and choose customize.
If bottom
Go to start and right click and choose propertites and then
choose task bar and then make sure the "keep task bar on top of
other items" is checked.
I think this is what you are saying?

  • Taskbar buttons are disappearing

Several times in the past couple of weeks, taskbar buttons have mysteriously disappeared. This is apparently XP, where the buttons are rectangular, and each one represents a web site. On another site, I was advised to use Alt-Tab, and that usually helped, but once, it would only allow me to go to the two windows whose buttons were there. The missing buttons mysteriously reappeared in most cases (usually on the right, regardless of where they had been before) , or at least the windows were still there when I clicked on the red X in the upper right corner for the rest.
One clue is that when an ad was slow to come up on the screen--an ad which only supported the web site I was looking at, but was not what I intended to look at--I would switch to another window and then the button for the window I had been on disappeared. I have also seen the button disappear when a site froze, even if it wasn't for a very long time. This also happened on a computer with IE7, but mainly when the site had frozen permanently. I also lost the button for a window I had been on when a popup ad came up.
On another site I was asked if this was taskbar grouping. It was not. Each button represents an individual window. Sometimes there are multiple tabs, but I try to avoid letting that happen.
I could not follow some of the advice given because this computer is at a library. The person who was in charge of the library's computers did not know what was going on.

I forgot how to come here Saturday but I posted this on another site:
I got on the computer about 30 minutes ago. It was the first time it had been turned on all day, but the Internet was already up and I just typed in the site I wanted to go to. The Internet was very, very slow. The button on the taskbar eventually disappeared but the window was still there. The site required me to select a sponsor before I could continue. The sponsor's ad came up as a popup (but very slowly to begin with, with just the blue border and the name of the site, the minimize button, the maximize button, and the red X at the top), with the toolbar so I could type in a new address. At that point, the taskbar button for the popup ad appeared, and so did the button for where I had been, but on the right instead of the left, which would be normal. No problems since then.
My responses on Monday on that other site to a response by someone who claimed none of that was a problem:
Firefox, not Explorer. And whoever was here and turned everything on must have clicked on the Firefox button. It was 12:59 and the library was supposed to open at 1:00. Nothing that happened during those first 10 minutes was "normal".
Well, it just quit. It said "Firefox is sorry" but they didn't tell me how I could get a copy of this report that will be sent. And it destroyed the stuff I had saved. Oh, sure, they act like they're doing me a great big favor by restoring the session. But the email is GONE.
It would be great if I could see what happened, and maybe it would be a clue to what's going on with the buttons.

  • Two taskbar buttons when playing in Windows 7

I had an easy transition to Windows 7 32-bit, iTunes9 is playing fine...except it's the only program that when I launch it, it adds a second taskbar button at the end of the row, and plays from there. That second button is also the one that's highlighted. All my other programs simply go live from the existing button. A trivial issue, I know, but it's taskbar real estate I could use...is this a bug or another Windows "feature"?

    Hi
I recently did an upgrade from Vista to Win 7. And I have the same thing happening.
Maybe It's a bug in iTunes?.
Ok, It's not that big of a deal, but anyway. It takes up space having two icons.
You can however make it disappear when minimized by right-clicking the taskbar and go to the the toolfield/toolbar options and select 'iTunes'.
It then turns into the toolbar mini player when minimized.

  • ITunes Taskbar Buttons: No Functionality

I have the latest version of iTunes. When recently updating, I've lost the functionality of my taskbar buttons. I've tried Googling for solutions, and none have worked.
I haven't tried reinstalling iTunes, but from what I've seen that hasn't worked for others.
Is there anything else I can do? I do have it showing up in my system tray, and that's the only method that I can use to restore the iTunes window.
    Thanks in advance!

    I found this link helpful:
    http://grupenet.com/2007/07/14/enable-itunes-taskbar-player/
The key insight seems to be that you should UNCHECK the minimize to system tray icon button in "advanced preferences". Hope that helps!

  • Multiple windows/taskbar buttons

    Acrobat X, Windows XP ...
I previously had Acrobat 6.  When I would print multiple documents from another application to PDF, or open multiple PDF documents, they would all go to the same Acrobat display, and would be selectable in the "Windows" dropdown in Acrobat.
Now, in Acrobat X, when I print multiple documents to PDF, each one opens what looks like a separate Acrobat X instance, with a new button on the taskbar at the bottom of the Windows desktop ... needless clutter!  If I open ten docs, I wind up with ten buttons.
Is there a way to make all documents just go to the same place as before, not spawning new taskbar buttons?
    Thanks.

By the way, if you have Windows 7 I think you can tell it to group the separate windows into a single taskbar item, but they will still remain independent windows.

  • Firefox Windows Won't Come Forward When Taskbar Button Is Clicked (Solution)

I posted this issue once before, but the thread was closed, so I am opening a new thread so that I can share the solution.
My problem was that many of my Firefox windows wouldn't come forward when I clicked their taskbar buttons. What that meant was that the content of those windows was permanently lost to me since there was no way to look at them. Reducing the number of windows by closing the ones I could access didn't seem to work.
After complaining here in the forum, I discovered that I had a virus on my computer. I believe it was a root-kit virus, but I don't remember for sure (I don't think the type of virus will have much meaning to most people anyway). Blocking windows and programs from opening is a common behavior of viruses. In fact, many viruses will prevent your anti-virus program from opening, so there is no way for you to scrub the virus from your computer.
All the anti-virus companies (AVG, Symantec, McAfee, etc.) now offer a service where one of their technicians will access your computer remotely and scrub any viruses from your computer. The cost is in the range of $100 to $150. I paid AVG $135 (I found out later that other companies were cheaper). The technician was in another country (the Philippines, I think). Despite that, the technician was very competent and did a good job of eliminating the virus. Once the virus was gone, all my windows opened without a problem. After this experience, I called around to the other companies and found that some of them use technicians in India and some in the Philippines.
So if you are having the problem of programs or windows that won't open, this is the solution.

    Thanks for posting that solution!

  • Why does a LabVIEW executable generate two taskbar buttons on the taskbar?

When a LabVIEW executable is run, it generate two taskbar buttons (with the same name) in the task bar each of them pointing to the same window (panel). Is there a way to prevent it from creating two buttons?

Add the following line to your executable's .ini file
    HideRootWindow=True

  • Clear jumplist for some taskbar buttons

I have moved most of my documents to a network drive. How do I clear the jump list for the Word and Excel buttons on my taskbar?

    Hi,
Meanwhile, you can right click the Taskbar\Properties, uncheck the option"Store and display recently opened items in Jump Lists", OK, then the jump lists will be cleared, but this solution wil reset all jump lists for all programs.
If you want to clear a specific program, then locate to
    %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations\
Jump List history is stored in the location, you can open the file with notepad, then find the associated one, delete it.
For example: the following data history is related with SnagIt, so I delete this file to clear the jumplist of SnagIt, but I have to say it's a somewhat hard job to find the associated one.

  • [Desktop] Windows Desktop taskbar buttons

The desktop app doesn't support the media mouseover buttons like windows media player has. The windows API for adding taskbar mouseover controls is trivially simple. I would really apprecate the ability to mouse over the taskbar icon and see the album cover, current track name, duration, current position and most imporantly, Play/Pause next and previous buttons. It would GREATLY increase the friendlyness and useablilty of spotify desktop on windows 7/8/10 Thank you. Here is an example of what I am talking about, what windows media player on windows 7 does.ignore the album it was something promotional preinstalled to windows media player. mouse over the taskbar, you get a play/pause. We need this. For a $10 a month I just need a button!

    Hello!
That's kinda weird, since it should actually show up those buttons.
At least on Win 8 and Win 10 they pop up for me when I hover over the task icon. Win 7 should work too.
Could you post a screenshot of what shows when you hover over the Spotify icon?
Also what OS are you using and which Spotify version are you running?

  • Firefox windows no longer "combine" under taskbar button.

    Upgraded to Firefox 4.
Firefox browser windows no longer "combine" or group under Firefox icon on the task bar.
(Basically means that all of the same types of windows - FF, IE, Word, Windows Explorer - stack or group with each other under their respective icon in the task bar instead of having many icons spread out across the task bar.)

    Hi Cor-el,
Thank you for your kind attempt at fixing this problem.
I performed both of the fixed suggested above and still no pictures within the buttons. I closed FF and restarted and no joy.
Can you PLEASE keep scratching your brain and think up something eles?
As described...when looking at my email web page there used to be in the "reply" button a left pointing arrow and the "forward" button had a right facing arrow. Now there is nothing but a very faint box around where the button is (almost cannot see it). It is the same with other web pages as well.
If I hover over the button the "Reply" cloud-ey thing pops up.
Without the pictures in the icons it makes the email page almost useless.

  • How do I keep the "Open all tabs" button from just suddenly appearing on my taskbar?

There is a weird glitch that keeps happening in my Firefox browser. It involves my taskbar and happens almost every time I use Firefox. Not sure when it started, seems like after I upgraded to FF 11.0 but don't hold me to that. Anyway, here is what I see, behind my open windows and apps buttons on my taskbar, I can see part of another button that is labled as "Open all tabs". Every so often, the button actually shows infront of my other taskbar buttons. I have my OS (Windows7 (64bit) set to run with best performance and in classic view if that might make any difference. I'm also noticing more frequent times of FF becoming non-responsive, when I open taskmanager and close FF, the dialog says there are 3 windows open when I only have 2 browser windows open.

  • How do I get rid of embedded adobe reader process windows and taskbar icons?

In the lastest versions of Adobe reader I've come across the issue of finding an adobe task bar icon and a small adobe reader process window for each PDF document that I have open witin an Internet explorer tab. This is driving me crazy. At first I thought it was jut an issue with the machine that I'm on, but I have now seen this happen in multiple computers. Anyone have any ideas on how to keep these from clogging my screen and taskbar?
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Internet Explorer version 10.0.9200.16686, and Adobe Reader 11.0.4.

Group similar buttons on the taskbar
Taskbar buttons represent open programs on your computer. When you have several programs  open at once, the taskbar might seem crowded with buttons. To help organize the taskbar and save space, you can group similar taskbar buttons so that all of the open files from one program are grouped into one taskbar button, like this:
    Grouped taskbar buttons
Open Taskbar and Start Menu Properties by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Taskbar and Start Menu.
Select the Group similar taskbar buttons check box so that it is checked. (To turn off grouping, clear the Group similar taskbar buttons check box.)

  • BUG: Double click on taskbar will not restore LR

Only right click+"Restore" brings LR from its minimized form. Click as well as double click are being ignored. Using Win XP pro.

    Thomas you are right,
most applications accept a double click in the taskbar when the window is minimized. However the agreed intention of the Taskbar UI Design is at least to my knowledge to make a simple click to hide or to restore a window. Just take any other application and try to double click on the Taskbar button when this application is not minimized. It will close and instantly opens again.
So you are right that LR behaves different compared to other applications but I think that LR sticks perfectly to the taskbar UI design which expects single clicks for restore and minimize and not double clicks. I think a document which describes the double-click behaviour does not exists. This is "no man's land" so to say.

  • Cs5 multiple documents taskbar

I put this query in the subject into the search and got two posts, one gave me some answers one was unrelated, I might of put in the wrong search keywords and it might be in this forum somewhere, if I duplicated it I'm sorry but I need to word it in my way so I can understand it. Thanks.
What I want to know that in Windows 7 Photoshop CS5 unless all of your open documents are tabbed they appear as separate documents in your taskbar. In CS5 with XP or CS3 with windows 7 this behavior is not present. Is this just a CS5 with windows 7 behavior? Is there anyway to turn this off? I work with multiple documents in Photoshop and having an extra 5 or 6 extra documents in the taskbar is not something I want to deal with. If you like this great but this is a deal breaker for me. I upgraded to CS5 for all the new features, some of which I use.
If there is no way to turn off this behavior I am going to go back to CS3 which doesn't have this or use my XP partition which doesn't use this behavior on the taskbar with CS5.
I have used some of the suggestions I have found on the web but none of them stop the behavior they way CS3 and CS4 behaves.
If you need any other info please let me know.
    Thanks in advance!

Great attitude, NightOwl041, and in the spirit of my contributions to this thread as well!
I did want to make a minor correction:

CS4, the actual predecessor to CS5, "was" coded for WIndows 7 and [unlike CS5] behaved itself when opening multiple documents.
    Nope.  This is not correct.
Photoshop CS4 released well before Windows 7 did, and even before a beta version of Windows 7 was available.
Photoshop CS4 Released:  October 2008, developed in 2007 and 2008.
Windows 7 Released:  October 2009, public betas available starting December 2008.
Note that there is no overlap here.  Photoshop CS4 was targeted for use with Vista, not Windows 7.  Vista did not have TaskBar Live Preview Thumbnails, though it did offer some "hover over the TaskBar button" thumbnail support for running applications.  I don't believe there was any capability to put an arbitrary image in those thumbnails, however - that's what Windows 7 added.
