Taskbar icons not always showing up post sysprep

Hello,
I'm having an issue where I have icons pinned to the taskbar, in this case Google Chrome, and when I sysprep an image, upload it to our WDS server and deploy it the icon sometimes will show up on a user's taskbar and sometimes they won't depending on the image,
I'm using the same unattend XML file and I'm using both CopyProfile and DoNotCleanTaskBar set to True, I've tried using and not using audit mode prior to sysprep and the results the same, half the time it works, half the time it doesn't.
Now here is the strange part the first time someone opens Google Chrome on their profile and closes it, it will be pinned to the task bar without manually pinning it, so I checked the default profile's taskbar folder, there is indeed a shortcut for Google Chrome
but the icon isn't showing up unless someone opens Google Chrome first. Anyone else see an issue like this?

Hi,
As I know, <DoNotCleanTaskBar> value does not mean pinned items on taskbar. You can find its description in the link below:
DoNotCleanTaskBar
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff715708.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
And this blog mentioend that "Many of the settings that are lost are related to the Start Menu and the Taskbar " when using copyprofile
http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2010/07/28/customizing-default-users-profile-using-copyprofile.aspx
And as alternative way, we can use group policy to deploy the pined items. (similiar in Windows 8.1)
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/d172b4de-be7c-4149-8958-bebfe042ade1/forum-faq-how-to-deploy-windows-7-taskbar-pinned-icons-by-group-policy?forum=winserverGP
Or you can use the taskbarlink in unattend XML

  • CR2 file icons not always showing thumbnail image depending on view.

I have some CR2 files which behave oddly. Some show an icon which is a thumbnail of the image when in list view but a blank icon when in icon view? While others show a blank icon in both list and icon view?
Doing a get info and they all show a preview image and quick look displays the image, it is just the icons in icon view which are blank.
Is this something that can be fixed?
    Phil

Yes it can, as I have found out!
I opened the folder which contained files which were displaying a plain icon when in Icon View. I then selected from the View Menu 'Show View Options', it was here that I discovered the check box for 'Show Icon Preview' which in this case was unchecked. When I checked this box the blank icons changed to a preview.
    So problem solved.
    Thanks to myself.

  • Networked Macs Not Always Showing Up In Network In Finder - On One Mac

The problem is that awake and running networked macs do not always show up in Network on the Finder. Sometimes they do and sometimes they do not. The problem happens fequently on one machine. Very similar questions have been posted on this. I suspect many are dancing around the same issue. I am hoping to get to the bottom of this.
All the OS X machines are running 10.4.9. Two are networked by Airport. The Airport and the problem iMac, an older G3, are wired to a LAN. On the LAN sits a PPC 7200 running OS9 IpNetRouter serving up IP addresses for all the connected devices, including printers. IpNetRouter also provides an internet connection out through a second ethernet card. The PPC 7200 drive is always reliably available for connecting to in the Finder.
Each of the OS X machines are set for Personal File Sharing only, with Firewall running, and without Stealth Mode enabled.
The problem is noticed on the wired Mac. Perhaps that is the key to this. The problem is not two way. The Finder on the wireless Macs shows the wired Mac in Network when the wired Mac is not showing the wireless Mac. Sometimes only one of the wireless Macs shows on the wired Mac. When that happens it is always the wireless eMac instead of the wireless Intel Mac.
When this problem occurs, it is always possible to connect to the "missing" wireless Macs by using their local IP address reported by IpNetRouter. It is not possible to do the same using the computer name of the Mac that should be visible in Network or by using its DHCP client ID.

No Macs are sleeping, but they might have been in the past. They don't show up when they are sleeping. These machines are often on for days. All are updated on a regular basis, including in the past two days.

  • Notes always show in the inbox

In the mail program notes always show in the inbox as well as the reminders tab which is an annoyance as I do not want them to always show in the inbox.
Is there a way to only have them display in the reminders section.
Thanks in advance for any help, Kenneth.

Sorry but the answer came as related posts after I posted the question.

  • USB Drives not always showing Finder

I currently have two USB Drives connected through a powered hub and they do not always show in the Finder window. Also when I pug in a USB memory stick it does the same thing.
I am new to Mac, I love it but this really bugs me. is there a setting somewhere, what is happening? If I disconnect then re-plug in the memory stick it shows up. What is really funny, that doing this also causes the missing USB drives to show up......

I tried that, but still no go with a thumbdrive. I can go to "Computer", and the USB drive shows up under that. All my other USB external HDs, my iDisk, and even FireWire drives show up on the left pane of the finder, just not the USB stick.
    Any ideas?

  • Files do not always show in finder when accessing server

When I access our server(PC) files do not always show up in the finder. Sometimes it shows and sometimes it does not. I have to go back and start over. I recently updated to Snow when this problem started happening. Example. If i'm in illustrator and want to open a file on the server I will go to server than to the folder on the server. once the folder is open there is not any files showing. If I go back and start over they will be there. Sometimes I have to do this several time to show files. There are multiple type of files in the folders and none of them show. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When you are viewing the tracks on the hard disc, did you then click on "Import CD"?  This is needed to initiate the importing process that will add the tracks to your library.

  • Album art does not always show.

I posted this question before, but never found an answer.
Album art works most of the time, but not always.
After ripping a CD, I highlight all songs, get the info dialog, and drop the album art on the info dialog. This works most of the time. But not always. Sometimes, there is a song on a CD that does not appear to have any album art at all. Sometimes it shows the incorrect album art that iTunes had automatically downloaded.
For example, I'm just listening to my "Ultra Dance 02" album on my iPod. I remember that after ripping, iTunes incorrectly added album art for "Ultra.iDance 05". I fixed that by select-all, get-info, and drag-and-dropping the correct art. After syncing with my iPod, all songs show the correct "Ultra Dance 02" artwork, except for track 6, which still shows "Ultra.iDance 05"
What's going on? How do I ensure that the changes that I make stick? And how do I fix such an error?
Also, is there a way to associate album art with a whole album, rather than each song individually?
    -Ron.

Even if iTunes recognized it, you cannot use iTunes to transfer from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store). You need to use a third-party program. Here is an article on that topic.
    http://lifehacker.com/394046/copy-music-from-your-iphone-or-ipod-to-your-compute r-for-free
However, if your hard drive's data is in bad shape, it may be difficult to recover all of your songs files.
Note: The hard drive may have data corruption, but the iPod may work better after you use the Restore button in iTunes. The Restore process erases the iPod and initializes the iPod's software. It won't fix a hardware problem if the drive is becoming faulty. But it may fix the problem if it is only data corruption.

  • AirPort signal not always showing

Hello there, I have the last 12" ibook to come out. I have had it since late February 2006 and this is the first time that this has been happening. The last couple of days, the AirPort signal has not been showing sometimes when I start up my ibook. I have to restart it, sometimes twice, to get the signal to pop up. When it wasn't showing up, and I would open up the Internet Connect and the AirPort wouldn't even be an option to select to connect to the Internet. Please give me any advice you can. Thanks.

    Hallo.

  • My battery icon does not always show in panel (multiple DEs)

I've been meaning to ask this for a while. I kind of asked in passing not really looking too hard for an answer. And from what I heard others aren't having this issue, but then again I didn't ask very in depth.
On my laptop if I plug in my power cable I can see my battery icon in the panel, then when I unplug it I can see the battery icon. However, after a certain amount of time of being unplugged the icon in the panel disappears until my laptop gets really low on power. Then it reappears. If I plug in my power cable and then remove it I get my panel icon back immediately, but only for a short time.
I was using XFCE and thought it might be a problem with the new Power Manager. Whenever the icon would disappear I could go into the Power Manager settings and it was never wrong. It always told me correctly if I had a line in or line out.
So I tried with GNOME and the exact same thing happens. i haven;t tried with any other desktop environments. Has anyone seen this issue?

    No, I've not seen it.
Look at the pseudo files in /sys/class/power_supply.  On my system, these are the interesting ones:
    ewaller@odin ~ 1048 %ls /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0
    alarm capacity_level charge_full_design current_now device model_name present status technology uevent voltage_now
    capacity charge_full charge_now cycle_count manufacturer power serial_number subsystem type voltage_min_design
    ewaller@odin ~ 1049 %cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/voltage_now
    12467000
    ewaller@odin ~ 1050 %cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/charge_now
    3670000
Ensure that these files are not appearing and disappearing.  Also, check their contents and see if the data are rational

  • Airplay not always showing on ipad or iphone

Ok, so i have an AppleTV and a Yamaha receiver and they both have Airplay activated. AppleTV is connected via WiFi and receiver is via LAN.
I have gotten these units to play from my iphone 4 and my ipad 4, but usually the airplay icon just does not show at all.
If i use airfoil from my windows computer the option to stream to ATV or receiver is always present and working as they should, wich leads the suspicion to my iPad and my iPhone. They both run iOS6 btw.
Anyone know if this is a common issue? Is it bound to be a conflict when running multiple airplay units and multiple i-devices on the same network?
(My receiver is a Yamaha RX-V473, also with the latest firmware installed)

    Hello there, vikram80.
Sounds like your app is stuck downloading on both of your iOS devices. You can try tapping on the application icon to resume the download, as outline in this featured discussion:
App updates won't download on my...: Apple Support Communities
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4111336
Try tapping the App, so that it changes to Paused instead of Waiting, then tap it again to resume the install.
Make sure you don't have any paused downloads in other apps either, like the App Store or iTunes Store.
If that doesn't do it, try resetting or restoring the iPhone.

  • Thumbnails of files not always showing

In Leopard I like to have all my icons in the Finder set to 100x100 because almost all files have a nice preview-like thumbnail image, for instance .mp4-files that in Tiger they were just showing as Quicktime icons. But... it's not working properly I don't think. Sometimes it takes forever to get them showing, other times they won't show at all.
Any one else experiencing this and/or know what to do?
    Thanks

Would be elegant if Finder could somehow remember the previews so it wouldn't have to locate them each time though.
I suspect this isn't done to conserve file space: if all the possible previews were permanently cached somewhere (including the jumbo one seen in the "Get Info" window's Preview section), it would add substantially to the file system overhead. It might even end up being slower than the on-the-fly rendering now done if the device storing the file system was slow or bogged down with other file-intensive operations.
I think that the way it works is that a temporary cache is created that persists only as long as the window is open. Sometimes, if I open the Get Info window, I can see the clock-face spinner briefly, signifying that the OS is building the preview. But if I then close the info window & open it again without closing the Finder window or switching to another directory, it appears immediately. Something similar happens with a Finder icon view window: once the preview is created, resizing the icons with the Display Options icon size slider is likewise immediate.

  • Bug: JList does not always show the right selection

I have a JList (Navigator model!) on my form which contains the data of a certain view. The view consists of several attributes but the navigator model always only shows the value of one field. The field I have choosen hasn't an unique value but that's no problem for what I want to do with the JList.
When I select another row in the view object useing it's key the row is selected in the view object (which I can check looking at the primary key attribute of the currently selected row), but in the JList sometimes the wrong row is selected. I noticed that if there is another row with the same value for the visible attribute (in my case an attribute called "name") as the row which is selected in the view object sometimes this wrong row is selected in the JList. This occurs if the wrong row with the same visible value (name) is at a higher position in the list. So it looks like the BC4J framework checks what the value is of the visible attribute of the currently selected row in the view object and used this value to select the first row in the JList that has this value. This doesn't necessarily mean it's the right row!!!
    E.g.
    The initial view object:
    PK | Name
    1 | test
2 | another test <-- currently selected row
    3 | test
    The initial JList:
    | test |
    | another test | <-- currently selected row
    | test |
Now I tell the view object that I want to select the row with primary key value "3".
Now my view object looks like this:
    PK | Name
    1 | test
    2 | another test
    3 | test <-- currently selected row
But my JList now looks like this:
    | test | <-- currently selected row
    | another test |
    | test |
I hope this is sufficient information to trace the bug, if not feel free to contact me (by sending a response to this message). I'm useing JDeveloper 9.0.3 preview!
    Regards,
    Peter

Well, how should the list resolve the difference between two "displayed values" that are same?Well, if I select a certain value in the list the connected record in the ViewObject is selected. In other words the JList seems to know enough about the ViewObject to select the correct record (it doesn't select the first record in the ViewObject with the display value!). So if "it" knows how to do it one way, why not the other way? When you select by index then the object corresponding to that index is selected and that means the right row (if you are able to figure out which row by simply having the knowledge of the row index though even though the displayed values are duplicate - but I won't say that's realistic). The other way, it only has a value - string that it has to match with a set of values in the list and that logic has no clues which of the "duplicate" entries would be the right one.
To resolve such conflicts you could add another "displayed attribute" in the list which is going to make the attribute-set unique in the list.I did do that already, but then my list becomes read-only (not selectable) because the attribute I added is a primary key attribute which is a DBSequence field what may not be changed once it has been inserted. The weird thing is, you can't change the value when you select it from the list, so why does it behave like this? (In other words why is a list with a read only display attribute also read only? because selecting something in a navigator list doesn't mean something get's changed in the selected attribute value!). I'd chase this one. This definitely sounds like a bug. Readonly-ness should not be derived from "displayed" attributes but "updateable" attributes.

  • Some web sites require you to type words presented in a strange form (Captcha?). The 'Captcha' does not always show up on my screen. How can I fix this?

I do not know how to make this any more clear. The strange, 'squiggly' words are meant to protect a web site from computerized log ins (I think). If the words are interpreted and entered correctly, you can log in successfully. But since the strangely formed words do not show up on my screen, I cannot continue the process. This does not occur all the time, on some sites the strangely formed words show up, and I can continue the process. Is this a problem with Firefox, my computer, or the web site I am trying to log into?

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.
*Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
*Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
*Check the exceptions in "Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions"
*Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images with the cursor Down key).
If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.
Make sure that you do not block third-party images permissions.default.images

There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
