Tasks disappeared in iCal

I just encountered a problem where my tasks suddenly don't appear in the task view. I contacted Missing Sync and they said this is a known issue they have reported to Apple. They have no idea when there's going to be a fix. I'm going to have to resync all my ical entries from Entourage using Paul Berkowitz's script which takes hours. But this is a fatal flaw in the app. Its not the first Mac app to have major flaws - or so I've found.
I'm seriously now thinking of reverting to Entourage even though its not Universal Binary. In the 3.5 years I used it, it never created a problem. It doesn't match fields as well as Missing Sync does with its conduits and iCal and Addressbook but it works and is stable.

Events Syncing, Then Disappearing from iCal

I first noticed a strange thing, in that an event I'd put in several days ago had disappeared from iCal but still appeared in MobileMe and on the iPad, even after running a manual sync.
While thinking about that, I entered a new event on a different calendar but in that same weekly view. It was entered normally, all seemed fine. A few minutes later I once again was looking at the iPad, saw the new event had already appeared there and then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw something on the iMac screen blink. When I looked, that event had now disappeared from iCal! Again, it still existed in MobileMe as it should have done.
Two perhaps significant facts:
The two which disappeared were the last two events I had entered, and
all prior events seem to be still present everywhere as they should be.
As for testing in real time while writing this, this is what has happened so far:
Entered a test event into iCal, failed to sync to anywhere are all despite auto & manual tries. It has failed to show up elsewhere in all the following testing.
Tried a second test event, on a different day, and it did sync normally.
In addition, one of the two originally missing events now popped back into view on iCal, momentarily blinking off and then back on on iPad.
Several subsequent test events all quickly synced through as they should, but the first test event has never appeared elsewhere and the second of the original events to disappear from ical remains missing.
Beyond " .... ain't working right ...", I don't have a clue. Hopefully it's just a momentary hiccup, but I thought I'd pop this out in case anyone else was seeing anything similar.

Initially I suggest you quit iCal and delete the calendar cache.
Choose Home from the Finder's Go menu.
Open the Library folder. (If you are using OS X Lion, you will need to hold the Option key while clicking the Go menu in order to access the Library folder.)
Open the Calendars folder.
In the Finder, delete the Calendar Cache files, including any that also display a -1 (or -2, -3, and so forth) directly after their filename.
Open iCal and wait for the calendars to be rebuilt.
Let us know how this goes.

Exchange tasks disappear from Outlook when they appear on the Pre

I am using EAS on my pre, with Outlook 2007 (and Exchange Server 2007). In Outlook, I use the calendar weekly view which shows the tasks at the bottom on the day they are due. My pre has synced without any trouble. However, when the reminder for a task shows up on my pre, the task disappears from my calendar in Outlook. It is still in my master task list and to-do bar, but doesn't show up "on the day it's due". Once I've completed the task, it shows back up on the calendar, marked as completed. I see all future tasks on the calendar as usual until the reminder shows up. I was trying to see if I could sync via EAS, without syncing tasks, as a possible solution, but haven't found a way to do that. Has anyone else encountered this?

Could the emails be deleted via OWA and not displaying in Outlook?
Please try to create a new profile and set it to online mode, then test the issue and see if it still appears in OWA.
If it doesn’t work, I’d recommend you contact with Exchange admin for further troubleshooting.

iCal won't take data. All events disappeared from iCal. Help!

I have the same issue. Recently upgraded to iTunes 11 and now have the problem.

Datebook and Tasks Disappeared

Please help my tasks disappeared, however my calendar was okay. After I synced the files, I then lost the datebook data as well. Every since I downloaded the most recent version of Palm, I've had numerous problems. How can I restore my files? I've imported the archived files and my most recent files were still missing. Also, I've changed the dat and bak extensions as mentioned in previous threads. Please help me!

I answered your other post with the instructions on recovering data.
When you renamed the .bak and .dat files, were those in mydocuments-palmOS desktop-username folder? This is where the files are located for 6.2 Palm desktop.
For Palm desktop 6.2 there are a few things to consider when using this version. When you are not using the program, close it. Do not leave Palm desktop open while any updates are being downloaded, this includes windows, virus software, etc. We have seen this cause data loss.
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.

Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.

Tasks in mail/ical in exchange.

We have started to assign tasks to other people in the office using the tasks in exchange. What I see on my mac side is the task e-mail showing up in mail, and nothing in iCal. Is there some work around for fix for this to have those show up in iCal and hence exchange tasks? The reason I ask is because we are testing this for our phones and since the task was never accepted, it doesn't show up on my phone to complete it.

TS4000 Tasks Disappear on Outlook 2007 (Windows 7) when added on iOS 6 device. They appear for a few seconds, then disappear.

I just installed iCloud for Windows on my Windows 7 PC, running Outlook 2007 and IE9. I have been dealing with an annoying issue for years with my iOS 6 devices, where I enter a reminder (which is sync'd to my MS Exchange server), and the reminder doesn't show up in Outlook until the day after the due date. I thought installing the iCloud control panel might help this issue. Now the task shows up for a few seconds, then disappears (from Outlook Today screen). It shows up in the task list if I click it, but not in my Today view, which is what I use to track my tasks. Any ideas why this disappearance may be occurring?

Go to the "View" option at the top of the page and then move down to "Go to" and see if Task is an option there. If it is, then select it to see whare it takes you. It may repopulate your task view, but only the trial will tell.

Why does the Send button disappear on iCal invites?

Just to premise this post with the fact that this is from our networked work server, all running Macs on 10.6.7 and using iCal 4.0.4. I'm writing this on behalf of a colleague.
When she goes to send invites to events like Board/Committee meetings in iCal, the "Send" button often disappears. The title is there, there's a day/time and location, and the contacts are pulled from her Mail/Address Book contacts. Sometimes the send button stays as it should, and other times it disappears after a few seconds, with no way to bring it back up. So sometimes she tries to add a group of contacts and immediately hit Send before it disappears - but this often leads to typos or mistakes due to her rush.
Although I've used a Mac as my primary computer for years, I've never really used iCal much, so I didn't know how to help directly.
Any reasons why the Send button would not be showing? I was thinking perhaps it was an issue with the contacts, but they come directly from her daily Mail/Address Book. I saw her go through the steps - it doesn't appear she's missing anything. Any help would be great.

Some events disappear in ical

I have noticed recently that some of my events disappear. Once, an event came back, but most of the time they don't. We have mobile me, so I don't understand how this can happen.

Anyone who has information on a computer / digital device which they care about needs a backup. If you are not currently backing up, consider starting ASAP (like right now is a good time): http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553. If you don't understand how to backup after reading that article or have questions, please ask. I can't stress enough how important it is to have a regularly updated backup. If you already have a backup, kudos to you for being prepared.
To check the version of the iPod Touch, just plug it into the computer and then look at it's summary window in iTunes. You can click the "update" button in iTunes to check for any updates that might be available for it.
Lets find out what is / is not syncing over the air:
iPod Touch / iPhone:
Tap settings > Tap Mail Contacts Calendars > Tap MobileMe account / MobileMe email address if present
Check to see if the "Calendars" switch is in the "ON" position -- If so then you are syncing calendars over the air with MobileMe on this device
iPad:
Tap settings > Tap Mail Contacts Calendars > Tap MobileMe account / MobileMe email address if present
Check to see if the "Calendars" switch is in the "ON" position -- If so then you are syncing calendars over the air with MobileMe on this device
Are the calendars you use in iCal on your Mac under the "On My Mac" section on the left hand side or under your MobileMe email address on the left?
Troubleshooting:
1. First make an iCal backup: Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal 1 at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
3. Launch iCal and then see if events stay around.

Is there any way to add a task/reminder from iCal or Mail besides adding flags that have no date reminders?

Am I missing something? Is there a 3rd party software that does this? I came from Outlook with the ability to add tasks to my daily to-dos and give them start/end dates. Where can I do this with OSX 10.7?

Thanks for the feedback Kip - I did see this option in iCal, which BTW is not optimal at all as you have to retype the action item and due date. I was looking for a way to add to dos and reminders with due dates directly from Mail as I did with Outlook. I get a ton of emails that I want to follow-up on, but want to chhose when I get reminded, and actually have a remider pop-up when it is due/overdue. Hope that makes sense.

Appointments and events keep disappearing from iCal

I put appointments and events on iCal and they keep disappearing. The ones that were added up until a few weeks ago are still there, just not the newly added ones. They will be there for maybe a few hours or a day and then vanish. I'm not techie at all. Please bear with me. I have an old MacBook, that runs Mac OS X, 10.6.8 and desperately need help!

Try a reset: Hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go.

Data for Month of April 2009 suddenly has disappeared in iCal!

When I click on April 2009(one of my busiest month`s this year)in iCal ALL the entries under all my Calendars-Events/Work/Birthdays/etc. have disappeared.
Every other Month is fine except April-where have all my Entries gone?
I can`t retrieve this month`s data from MobileMe because at some point Sync has replaced the MobileMe iCal April with the same empty month off my computer!!

If you look a bit lower, i have the same darn problem. It only happened once i started using mobileme to sync, too.
It's odd, my ical will do a few things- sometimes it will flash the calendar like it's fine and then turn blank. Other times, it only shows two of my various different calendar groups. I don't get it, and it's ticking me off, too! I also heavily rely on my ical...

Birthdays disappeared from iCal. New iTunes?

I installed the new iTunes today and my birthdays disappeared from my MacPro iCal, but still show in my iPad and iPhone4.
In iCal I found Prefs > General > Show Birthdays Calendar which I never had checked before, so I checked to troubleshoot and the birthdays appeared but instead of having the usual little red icon to the left of the birthday text as before and still in Calendar on my iPhone and iPad, there is a lime green background under each birthday in iCal only.
Also there is now "Subscriptions" in the left iCal column after checking Show Birthday Calendar which I never saw before.
So I don't seem to have a problem, just wondering if iTunes changed these things above?

For some reason I was getting the red gift icon in iCal until I downloaded this last lastest version of iTunes, then I got the green backgrounds.
Perhaps it was a bug or something related to the fact that I had birthdays in two places. Some via Addressbook and some created as independent events within iCal?
The gift icons only showed up for the birthdays created from Address book and imported into iCal. It was that way from the first time I added a birthday in Address book. I know it was in this way on my computer as the Addressbook birthdays had the icon and the iCal birthday events had a blue background because I set them as all day since there wasn't a time associated with any of them.
I also had the same icons in my iPad and iPhone, again just for the Addressbook entries.
But now that I've deleted all the iCal birthday events and have all birthdays input into the Addressbook Birthday field, all birthdays are being read and imported into iCal and Calendar so no gift icons show any more in my computer's iCal, but they continue to show in Calendar on my iPhone and iPad.
