I'm trying to add tasks to my ical... I can't get the window to come up when I click on More Info... nothing happens and I can't assign due dates. Help! What am I doing wrong?

For some reason, once I created a task in entourage and synced it with ical, the pop-up menu started working. Problem solved... although I don't know how!

Whether the solution is the problem? since it is very inconvenient.
I like I bring to contact children's birthdays, anniversaries, date of death, and so on.
And I want to make it all displayed in the calendar.
Then the meaning of the item in the contacts if it can not be controlled?
It turns out a half-measure, and those with no no value, not to speak about the practicality!

If the old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your devices, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

How to make tasks in iCal repeat?

This might be a stupid question, but I'm trying to make tasks in iCal repeat on a regular basis. For instance, instead of having to set a task to repeat every Monday at 10am, I just want to set a task for Monday at 10am and then have it repeat every Monday at 10am. Am I missing this setting somewhere?

appearing after a number of times or after a specific
date from the "end" pop-up menu.
You can also quickly change when the event stops

the event, and then choosing "Stop Recurrence" from

Hi, thanks for your response. I don't have a repeat occurrence pop-up menu when inserting new tasks, which makes it all the more confusing - I have that menu when inserting new calendar events, but not tasks. Thoughts?

For all of the wonderful and awesome things Apple has done and is doing (including winning me over from the Microsoft camp) there are certain things they absolutely are failing at. Syncing is one of them. If you want/need Exchange tasks synced with iOS 5 Reminders, USE OFFICE 2011 on Mac OSX Lion instead of iCal, Mail and Address Book and then LIFE IS WONDERFUL!!! Works beautifully... Exchange notes work great on Mac in Office 2011 but doesn't yet sync to iPhone notes (hopefully that will eventually get there too). Pass this around, I spent hours to figure this out...

TS2654 added tasks to iCal on iPad but iTunes10.7 will not sync with iCal on Mac

I added appointments and tasks to iCal on my iPad. When I try to sync it with iCal on my iMac, iTunes states an error message that the calendars did not sync.
I know in iTunes that I can have it update the iPad with what is on my iMac. I don't want to do that because the iCal on my iPad has the most up to date tasks, meetings that I have created.
Thoughts?

Thanks. There is another thread that shares a solution that involves deleting ical Library cache files and Preference files. I"ll see if that works. ICloud shouldn't be a factor in my case since I don't use it and it's "off" in Preferences. I am encouraged that I don't need to use it to fix this issue based on other's experiences, but we'll see!

Importing tasks into iCal

Does anyone know if it's possible to import tasks into iCal? What format would be needed? Would it just use the Import function or is there another trick?

Any tips on managing reminders = tasks in ical?

I have Palm on my Dell. I'm moving to MacbookPro. I got my contacts to Address Book using Vcard. I don't have tons of calendar entries so used the Vcal option to move them one at a time to iCal. Now I'm down to moving Palm tasks to my Mac. In terms of hardware I only have the Dell and the Mac. In terms of S/W I don't see much on the web that will really save me a lot in moving my 100-125 tasks to the Mac. So it will probably be re-enter them one at a time.
Now the question - iCal seems to have only one place holder for what I call Tasks. That seems to be Reminders. Does anyone have any feedback, tips, etc. on doing task/reminder management using iCal?

I haven't used iCal on Lion (10.7) yet, but on earlier version Tasks were assigned to calendars, and colour-coded accordingly. You could have special calendars for eg Urgent tasks, Work tasks etc. I suspect that remains the case in Lion's iCal.

I love the fact we have VCF as a standard for exchanging contacts and ICS as a standard for exchanging schedules, but I'm perplexed why there is no standard for tasks. To that end, does anyone in this forum have a notion why Apple chose to embed tasks within the ICS XML definition? I'm not challenging it. RTM (remember the milk) seems to do the same thing. Is this common practice? Just something that RTM and Apple are doing?
Does anyone have pointers to more info?

Do you mean ToDos when you refer to tasks? If so, they are part of the iCal standard (RFC 2445)

Entourage Tasks and iCal "To dos" have disappeared during sync with .Mac

All of my “tasks” (both completed and incomplete) in Entourage and "to dos" iCal have disappeared, apparently during a sync with dot Mac. This problem has happened twice in the past two weeks (the first time I lost all of my Entourage “notes” too, but I haven’t put any back).
The tasks show no problems for a week and then all of a sudden disappear from both Entourage and iCal. My calendar and address book (which I also sync) seem not to be affected. Entourage doesn’t seem to offer a way to sync the calendar without syncing the tasks as well.
Here are my questions:
Why did my tasks disappear?
How do I prevent their disappearance again?
has anyone else experienced this problem?
My Entourage database is fine. I’m running Entourage 11.2.3 (which rencently added a feature "sync services" that allows syncing with .Mac and iCal).

I had the same problem and I got my To Dos to appear when I clicked on the To Dos by Priority column header and checked/unchecked the Hide Items outside Calendar View option. (Doesn't seem to make any difference whether it is checked or unchecked ... it displays all of the items ... at least until restart iCal ... then it is a bit unpredictable.)
I also have intermittent problems when I create or change a new Event. Sometimes the change does not appear until I move off the page that I am displaying and come back (e.g. move forward a week in week view and then back.)

So I have this little problem here. In Os10.7 I managed to get my gmail calendar in iCal, but the delegated TASKS are not showing in the Reminder.
I somehow have the same problem no my other computer, with Mountain Lion.
Is it simply impossible, or am I just forgetting something? This is crucial, because I have little interest in using iCal & Reminders if I cannot sinc with google (reason is, I am also using a PC)

Also, be aware there is software that will run fine in Mt. Lion but fails to function properly in Mavericks. Logic 8 is apparently one example of this phenomena.
Snow Leopard, if it will boot and run on your iMac is probably your best option; even over Tiger or Leopard. Be sure to install the optional Rosetta (and IMHO, QuickTime 7).
You have a computer that is running 10.9.x Mavericks and put in your DVD drive your old install disk only to find a line crossed through it? The universal "no" symbol meaning it won't run?
This is usually a sign of PowerPC software which should run in Snow Leopard with Rosetta installed but not in Lion or thereafter without virtualization of SL.
I would not want to run this (CAD) software under any form of emulation mode - that would really kill its performance.
If virtualization becomes your only option: Do not forget that your older software will have better performance running on today's more powerful CPU's (i5, i7, etc.) in emulation/virtualization than they did on the older G4, G5 PowerPC CPU platform.
That being said CAD may have complex graphics that do not work well in virtualization.
You're just going to have to experiment and find the best operating environment for your software.

How to import Outlook Tasks as iCal To Do's?

My wife is moving from a PC to a Mac. She used Outlook on the PC. We've used O2M from Little Machines to successfully convert all her email, contacts, and calendar from Outlook. But that utility doesn't convert Outlook Tasks. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to import her large Task list into iCal? Thanks for any pointers.

What is the best way to manage tasks. I have moved from a pc with outlook and have lost 'tasks' in that programme. Do I have to rely on ical or can I download an app to manage business tasks?

iCal does have reminders but its implementation of tasks is pretty wimpy. There are a number of programs that are better geared to the job. I was a level 4 procrastinator until I discovered Getting Things Done and for me Things is perfect. It lets me handle projects which are dependent upon multiple tasks in a no-nonsense easy fashion. Much less expensive and really not much more than a list maker is Wunderlist. Thankfully there's a ton of shareware offerings - check out MacUpdate.com and see what works for you.
