TC as only storage

How smart and easy is it to just make TC my central server for my laptop and desktop to draw from and connect an external hard drive to TC to make a back up. Is it possible to connect an external HD to TC and from my MacBook, wirelessly back up the data from TC.
I want to buy the apple router and for seemingly another 100 dollars for an additional 500 GB of storage space seems like a good idea. I just don't know how smart this is or how feasible. My idea is to keep all the iphoto and itunes on the TC and access them from my MacBook wirelessly. Will it be incredibly slow?

In your case, the files would appear like any other disk drive. You can open, edit or copy them like any other files. Someday in the future, you may want to start to use the Time Machine feature to make backups. At that point, you'll be happy that you have a Time Capsule, since (at least today) you cannot use an AirPort Base Station for Time Machine.
Ok, my last question. Since I don't have TC, please be patient. How easy is it to access TC wirelessly from my macbook in order to copy the centrally stored iphoto / itunes library to an external HD to back up and put in a safe? Easy or somewhat difficult, and can you describe how to briefly? Thank you sooo much again.
It's very simple. Just copy the files just like any other files.

My Mac Pro (Late 2013) with an Apple SSD as the only storage will not restart

I have a Mac Pro (Late 2013) with an APPLE SSD SM0256F as the only storage. When I restart all I get is the spinning bars. I have to manually hold the power button down to force shutdown. I have let it try to restart for as long as 30 minutes. It will start just fine from a shutdown. I am running Yosemite 10.10.2 (14C1510). I have used Disk Utility with no errors. The only time I need to restart is after a system upgrade. I have tried, as others have suggested, selecting the drive from the Startup Drive preferences with no difference. Any help is much appreciated!

NOT ON ITUNES ONLY STORAGE DEVICE

My ipod will not go on itunes. only comes up on my computer as a storage device. I troubleshooted for two days following all directions nothing worked. I have three other idops and just got this on ebay brand new from japan. did not know that this was coming from there. Hope it is not broke.

Two things to know:
1. Any instructions that tell you to enable "Audiobooks" in the Preferences > General section are a couple releases old. Apple changed "Audiobooks" to just "Books" when they launced the iBooks Bookstore. Just make sure Books is checked, and both your eBooks and your audiobooks will appear in the Books source list.
2. You probably need to turn on sync'ing for your audiobooks. Connect your device (here, the iPhone 4), select it in the DEVICES section of the iTunes sidebar, then select the Books tab in the sync configuration area. You'll have to scroll down to the Audiobooks section, because eBooks and audiobooks have separate sync settings.

Picking quantity from a different storage location during batch split??

Hi Gurus,
Have an issue with doing batch split in a delivery with batches from several storage locations.
Have delivery XXXXXX where I want to pick batches from several different storage locations.
I click on the batch split button and select the different batches and quantitys.
The issue here is that I would like to have the different storage locations entered automatically based on the selection of the batch I have made.
The only storage location that is entered here or possible to be entered is the defaulted storage location that is in the first screen...
My question is why can I get the storage location where the batch is located and acctually exists when I do select the batch in the batch split...
The table LIPS and LGORT is not filed with the storage location so I do not know how I could fill this field with the correct storage location data...

you have not jet got an answer -- here my suggestion.
You have to use the Userexit Mv50afz1. Here you can do some checks and you can do a popup, where you can sign the LGORT, where the batch is.
In any case, you need an ABAPer
In documentation, there is signed, that you should not change database other as Save_prepare - and that's too late.
In one solution at my company, i show in a message the right information. In an other solution, i made a modification of table lips.
But dont change the index of the current lips/xlips. That may have the effect of incorrest LIS - System.
If nessesary create an ylips- Line of the position.
Use an assign-command to avoid the change of the index.

Creation of new storage pool on iomega ix12-300r failed

I have a LenovoEMC ix12-300r (iomega version).
IX12-300r serial number: 2JAA21000A
There is at present one storagepool (SP0) consisting of 8 drives (RAID5).
HDD 1-8 (existing SP0): ST31000520AS CC38
I have aquired 4 new Seagate ST3000DM001 drives as per recommendation on this forum:

I want to make a new storage pool with these 4 drives:
HDD9-12 (new HDD and SP1): ST3000DM001-1CH166 CC29
I have used diskpart to clean all 4 drives and the IX12-300r can see the drives just fine.
When I try to make a new storage pool, naming it SP1 as the only storage pool is named SP0, I get an error: "Storage Pool Creation Failed"
Please advise as to how I can get these drives up and running.

I have pulled the 8 hdd from storage pool 0.
Then I rebooted with the 4 new hdd in slot 9 - 12.
Result: http://device IP/manage/restart.html, with the message: Confirmation required. You must authorize overwrite existing data to start using this device. Are you sure you want to overwrite existing data?k [yes] / [no]
I then answer yes four times anticipating that each new drive needs an acceptance, but the dialog just keeps poping up...
Then I shut down the device and repositioned the 4 new drives to slot 1-4 - but the same thing happened...
Any suggestions?

Need Help with Backup and Storage

Over the past few months I have been making the transition from PC to Mac. A "clean install", if you will.
In addition to iPhones and iPads, we now have a new Mac mini which serves as a HTPC and general home computer, 2 laptops (Air and Pro), all connected (some wirelessly and some wired) through AirPort Extreme and extended AirPort Express.
The one missing piece of the puzzle is backup and storage. I have no backup (which can't continue) and the only storage is on the hard drives in the various devices themselves.
After spending days pouring through this forum and others, I am now thinking about getting a 2TB Time Capsule for backup and a 6TB G-Raid for storage.
The G-Raid, I'm assuming, will have to be connected directly to the mini by Firewire. As it will largely be used for storing our DVDs and CDs, I don't think that's an issue but wonder if it will be easy to move files between it and the other devices?
Are there any flaws in this plan? Is there a better way of doing it?

The one issue you will have is that you have multiple
iDevices, multiple computers and multiple users. If
you are using iTunes to manage your media, you
will need to put the media storage on a computer that
will be running all the time and have iTunes running on
that and set up for Home Sharing. Then, on each device,
you can select what material gets copied to the device
and what material will stream only.
As far as backups, I personally maintain clones on portable
drives for each of my computers and, depending on the data,
backup data on USB memory sticks or additional portables.
As for my media, I have a pair of 2TB drives connected via
USB to an Airport Extreme Base Station and have my media
files stored there. One is the main and the other is a backup.

USB storage devices not being recognised

Issue:
- macbook unable to recognise USB storage devices.
- can be found on disk utility but 'greyed out'.
- cannot be found under devices in finder.
- tried restarting laptop, no effect.
- additional storage via Nifty + 64gb micro SD is working fine.
- apple products (iPod/iPhone/iPad) and printer/scanner working fine, only storage devices appear to be affected.
- USB-ethernet adapter appears to be working w/o problems too.
- last technical thing done to the computer was SMC reset 5 days ago for power cable light not working properly (fixed with reset).
Hello everyone,
I seem to having some issues with my macbook and the ability to use USB storage devices. The SD card slot appears to be working fine as I have a nifty device attached on. I'm not sure exactly when this started to happen but it was working last week for sure.
I've put some succinct notes above for anyone who is willing to help out and is able to use it to determine the problem but I don't think it's a hardware issue. Maybe it's a bug with the new OS X update over the weekend?

I ran kext utility 2.6.1, restarted my computer and everything was working again.

I would not do it... I mean hunting for Storage Server is pointless. For a reason: built-in restrictions make it unusable for anything else except storage management (what it was initially designed for).
(there are other important restrictions like being not able to be an Active Directory controller but they are irrelevant in the context of this topic)
Running more then 2 VMs is not supported. Having full-blown x64 server doing only storage and spending 1% of CPU time for that is... a bit questionable investment. System would be insanely resource over provisioned. Very bad ROI. See:

When i executed a query... In a storage location column we are plant and storage location code simultaneously... but we are selecting only storage location.. cannot we seperate bothe if yes how... please kindly help me...

Storage location is compounded to plant. => A/01, B/01 and C/01 are unique values for storage locations.
Therefore the system is behaving correctly by showing you 01 thrice in the F4 help of Storage location - once for each plant.
Is there the same text for all the three plants - A/01, B/01 and C/01?
If not, then you could set the display to "key and text" in the infoobject settings, to avoid confusion.

You will have to modify the template of the standard checkin page. Alternatively, you could define Rules and Profiles for all but admin users and disable access to the standard checkin page. Read Bex Huff's book, chapter 9 how to do it (both).

Are you sure your launchPopupListener is being executed? Any error?
Try debugging your application by setting the breakpoint in the lauchPopupuListener code and see if the where clause is set properly (or the bind variable) and the query is executed successfully.

Looking for some advice on a Golden Triangle Storage setup.

I'm an IT technician at a school where we currently have a 600 computers and are now getting many requests to integrate our Macs also into our system. I've used Macs for a while and have tried and researched to get this query sorted but with no avail.
We have our students/staff log into the Macs with Active Directory authentication and then they access their windows folders from there. The problem we are having is with programs like Logic and other Music Technology related programs the allocated storage is getting filled up rapidly.
We have now bought ourselves an external hard disk for use only with Macs and we would like to have that allocated to users. So our ultimate goal is to have users being able to log into the Macs, access their windows areas and save their mac files to the mac only storage. We're not sure where to start and if we were pointed in the right direction we don’t mind researching and learning-by-doing if needed it's just the first step we're not sure of!
Server: MAC OS X 10.5.8
Macs: Most on Snow Leopard some on Leopard and a couple of staff on Lion
Windows: All XP except for a few staff on Windows 7

Storage Location Default for Components in IW31

When I add a Non-stock item to the Work Order under the Components tab, I want it to default in the one and only Storage Location we have.
I read where I should be able to do that by going in SU3 under the parameters tab and inserting LAG along with the value I want (TH1). I did that part successfully, and exited and logged back in. However, now when I add a component to the work order, it still comes up and asks me to enter a Storage Location. It's not defaulting the value I put in.
Is there another step to make this work?

When ever you use 'N' type material, the storage location defaults from material master, if maintained in 'Org data'.
If you use 'L' type, system will not be able to decide the storage location, if multiple storage locations are maintained. If the field is mandatory, you have to select the location, otherwise order can be processed without the same.
However, when material movement is done through 261, storage location will be asked.

iCloud Photo Library is not designed to be a cloud-only storage service. The photos kept in iCloud Photo Library are also on all of the devices where you have turned iCloud Photo Library on and any photos added to or deleted from one device are automatically synced to iCloud Photo Library and to the other devices. You can reduce the storage space required on your phone (and also on any other devices) by going to Settings > Photos & Camera and placing a checkmark in front of Optimize Storage. More details in iCloud Photo Library FAQ - Apple Support
Apple does not offer any cloud-only storage options. If that is a requirement there are 3rd parties that do. You could also make the suggestion to Apple at https://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html
