TC keeps dropping Airport connection

I am using TC with a USB drive and a printer connected through a USB drive. Everything works. Frequently, my Airport connection drops, when I try to reconnect, I get a timeout error on the password. The only way to correct the situation is to un-plug the TC.
I think that this all started after the last software update earlier this week.

Have you tried changing the channel?
Have you updated your AirPort software with Software Update?
One or both of the above seems to fix this problem.

  • My mac mini keeps dropping wifi connectivity

    Hi Folks,
My new Mini keeps dropping wifi connectivity so I lose the connection to Apple TV and even just browsing on Safari seems painful hoping a page will load before losing connectivity. I reset my router, restart the mini and it intermittently keeps happening. Has anyone come up with a workable solution?
    Thanks

Hi Leo, this has worked for a few...
Though all of these steps may or may not be needed, I'm including them all.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

  • Why does my iphone 4 keep dropping wifi connection since ios5.0.1update

Why does my iphone 4 keep dropping wifi connection since ios5.0.1 update, it worked perfectly before, my wifes 3gs connects fine and stays connected while my £400 paperweight losses connection, thinking of going back to nokia! Sort it out apple!

If the "oh so Great Apple" were to monitor these forums then they might see all the problems
that the people who have paid good money for their devices are having, i suppose they can do no wrong
In your eyes, i just thought that if you pay a lot of money for a product that works fine, and you update
It with a firmware update that they kept going on about how good it was and it can do this and it can
Do that, then i think they should sort it out. I don't care if i "don't deserve to be an apple owner" or not,
The fact is i paid my money and it should do what its suppose to do, i moved from Nokia to Apple because
The N97 was crap and i put up with it for too long, and they didn't do anything to fix the bugs they just stopped
Selling it and basically said tough s**t, so now this is happened i hoped Apple whould be better but they seem
To be just like the rest.

  • My AppleTV2 keeps dropping the connection to itunes on my PC.

My AppleTV2 keeps dropping the connection to itunes on my PC
If i retstart iTunes or homesharing it starts up again but only for a few minutes.
This is hopeless and has been happening to many others- please can you give me a fix for this?

I have the same problem with my apple tv and itunes. Home sharing is on but it keeps dropping out every couple of minutes - really annoying! I noticed tonight that it drops out when i select the shows and music in my library on the TV with the remote that comes with apple tv, but when i play tv shows or my music by selecting clicking play from itunes on my laptop it works. There's definitely a bug but try this work around and see if you have any luck.

Have purchased a new airport extreme.  It has a green light for about 30 seconds and then switches to blinking orange then back to green.  Had a regular airport that worked fine.  No peripherals can connect.

  • Intel iMac keeps randomly dropping Airport connection

My Intel Duo core iMac keeps randomly dropping its Airport connection. It never used to do this until a few months ago. The Airport menu bars randomly show half grey, or all grey, and either I have to turn Airport on/off from the menu to get all the bars back to black, or sometimes they just come back on.
Logically, I guess it can only be three things, a problem in the (a) Intel iMac (eg. airport card), (b) my Airport Express Base station, or (c) my ADSL 2+ NetComm modem router. Now, fortunately I have a first generation white G5 iMac set up side by side to help diagnose the problem. When the Intel iMac airports bars go half grey or all grey, the Airport bars on the white G5 iMac stay black or at worst show one grey bar.
At face value, I guess this points to the Intel iMac itself being the problem? Or could it be that the Airport Express Base station is the problem, and the Intel iMac is more sensitive to the problem than the white G5 iMac? I'm sort of leaning to the Airport Base station as the problem because when the Intel iMac drops out, the white G5 coincidentally drops out albeit by only one grey bar generally.
Its quite annoying because its so unpredictable and intermittent. My Intel iMac has full Applecare, but I would feel stupid to haul it into Apple only for them to say I wasted their time and the problem must be the Airport Base station/modem router.
    All comments welcome!

Well, for what its worth, I'll give you the update to my problem. The Apple technician said during all their testing, my Intel iMac never dropped the Airport connection once - and the problem might be some interference between the iMac and the Airport Express unit. That didn't quite make sense because my white G5 iMac seems fine; the occasional variable signal but not a full drop out. Anyway, the technician said he applied a 'few software updates' - although I don't know what these updates were, especially since I always apply Apple public updates as they are released.
Now, when I got my Intel iMac back about a week ago, I am very happy to say the dropout/weak signal problem appears to be no more (touch wood). Thus, I don't know what was done, but it has seemingly fixed things so far.
Would anyone know what updates Apple might have applied - and I assume its something that is not readily available to the public, since I always keep an eye on public software updates.

  • Airport keeps dropping xbox connection!

HI all, My son has an xbox 360 hooked up wireless to my airport extreme. We have security set to wpa/wpa2 personal. He gets in a xbox live no problem, then after a few minutes or so the xbox drops the connection. We also have other Mac's, a Wii, and a Playstation3 all hooked up with no problem. The funny thing is this just started about 2 weeks ago. We have done everything to try and resolve it including replacing his xbox with a new one under warranty. We even tried a direct wired hook up to the airport with no success. Does anyone have any idea's? I'm about to pull my hair out!

I did wire the xbox directly up to the modem, and that works, unfortunately I can't leave it like that because there is only one port on the modem. This proves that the issue is with airport and nothing else.

  • Wrvs4400n keep dropping wireless connection

    hi there,
has anyone got problem with  wrvs4400n keep dropping the wireless connection? i tried to find out anywhere but not much hints are given how to solve the issue.
i have 1.1.03 firmware installed, and currently running on
    b/g/n mixed on channel 9
    wpa2 personal mixed security
the rest of the settings on default
i had the router running for about 3 months and most of the time i have to either restart the server to get the wireless working again. normally the wireless works ok until few days when suddenly I just can't access the internet using the wireless.
once i replug my computer using cable, the wireless router suddenly can give me IP address and the wireless return back to normal.
    i have tried to use
    different channels
changing to G/N, and B/G mode
    change key renewal frequency
    reduce RTS Threashold
accessing the wireless router from 3 different wireless network card
none of them really works, normally after few days, 1 week top, i suddenly lost wireless connection again. the SSID still there, i can authenticate, somehow the wireless just won't give me IP address
checking the website, it seems like i'm on the latest firmware from linksys and they don't seem updating the firmware anymore, is this product not supported anymore?
anyone knows of the same problem ? or has already solved the issue?

    Hey Stewey,
I have a similar problem with my iMac G5. My roommate, who has an HP, bought a Linksys WRT54G when we moved in to our place and it gives me trouble with Airport sometimes. We use G only and WPA Personal. I updated the firmware in February and I swear it got a bit better, but it still goes out sometimes. If I move it just a few inches in any direction, generally it will start working again. Resetting it also helps sometimes. I don't know if its the fact that it doesn't say it's compatible with any Mac on the box, but it's annoying as all ****. My roomie rarely has problems with it (our rooms are the same distance away from the router), but my friend brought his PB over to do some work and he had trouble in my room as well. Is it Linksys, or is it Airport? I have no idea. Our router is out in the living room, next to the TV and Xbox 360, so it might be interference. If possible, try moving the router to higher ground and away from other electronics.
I tried looking up your router online to see if I could find anything else out. Didn't find too much info, but it says that you get free 24 hour tech support. You don't see that too often. If you can't figure it out, give them a call.
    Good luck!

  • MacBook keeps dropping Airport signal

My new MacBook keep loosing ist connection with the AirPort Express.....i'm not sure if its the Express or the MacBook....there is only a few feet of distance between the two and all updates have been added to the MacBook. After 3 bad Pro's and one bad MacBook I really want to keep this unit and any help you guys could give me would be great.....i'm a new mac user. Cheers.

I had the same issue with my new MacBook and thought it was the notebook.
Here's my story: I went back to the Apple Store where I bought my macbook and told them that there is something wrong with my AirPort card inside the macbook that is "defective" because it kept dropping signals. I would get a connection for a few minutes or seconds and then lose the signal the next! The manager had NO CLUE why that was happening and asked that I show proof by reproducing it inside their Apple Store! I told the manager I would like a new one and she was nice enough to exchange it for me at no cost.
After doing my own research, I discovered that the problem was not with my MacBook, but rather it was with my Linksys wireless DSL router. Luckily, all I had to do was update the firmware on the Linksys DSL router and....I have not lost signal since!
My suggestion is to update the firmware of your router (e.g. Linksys, Belkin, D-Link, etc. All I had to do was go to Linksys' website and download the updates and run it through my router system) and see if that fixes the problem. Good luck!

  • Time Capsule keeps dropping network connection

I recently got a Time Capsule to replace a dead external drive and my AirPort Express. I was able to set up the Time Capsule as a router with little trouble but using it as a Time Machine backup drive is driving me crazy. Each time I start a backup the Time Capsule eventually drops my network connection before it can finish. I have about 200GB on my internal drive. Could this be too much to transfer over Wi-Fi?
I never experienced a dropped network connection when I was using the AirPort Express and my second Mac (a G4 iMac) never looses the connection. Any ideas what could be going on here?

Very interesting. Been working this problem from every angle. Noticed two kickers.
    1) Transmission would refresh to fast when opening and closing menu bar airport icon.
    2) Transmission never fades when running iStumbler which is continuously interrogating Time Capsule.
MacPro software seems to be forgetting that it is hooked up and drops out. It is a software thing.
I am starting iStumbler for each session automatically now and am having no drop outs. It is keeping Time Capsules attention. It is not required for all computers in the house but certainly is for the MacPro from which I control everything.
Amazing. Can one of the FanBoys bring this to the attention of the right person at Apple? Also, I need work and have many stories of trouble shooting successes. Tell them to hire me. It would save you guys a lot of time.

  • 2012 MacBook Pro Intel i7 (purchased May 2013) constantly drops airport connection. My 2006 MacBook Pro has no problems connecting and staying connected.

I received a 2012 MacBook Pro INtel i7 for my birthday this May 2013. It constantly drops my airport connection. My ancient 2006 MacBook Pro has no problem connecting to airport, nor staying connected. I've had to write this message several times as I keep losing the airport connection and have to reconnect. BTW: I am less than five feet from the airport base.
    Thanks for help.

After trying all of the above the suggestions, the problem returned as before. However, after digging some more I discovered that the issue appears to lie with the 10.4.10 version of the Mac OS; when I checked the software log under the system profiler I noticed that I had installed that update at about the time my Airport problems began. Apple then quietly released a v 1.1 combo update to 10.4.10 on July 2nd, which once installed appears to have resolved the problem. You can find the download at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10410comboupdatev11intel.html
What's curious is that originally Apple listed that the v 1.1 combo update resolved some issues with RAW image data, and some sound problems, which don't seem to have anything to do with Airport.

  • HT1349 my macbook pro 13" retina keeps dropping wifi connection

I'M using airport to connect this macbook pro retina to via wifi to the internet with excellent signal. It keeps dropping the wifi network on/off/on & therefore sometimes web pages take ages to dsiplay. If you click on wifi indicator, it says "looking for signal" & then "on", its happening for about 2 months. My other devices (iphone & ipad dont have any isssues & work 100% via wifi from the same airport.

If the troubleshooting suggestions here don't help you, and if your other devices work 100% when they are at exactly the same location as gives problems with your MBP, it sounds to me like a hardware problem with your MBP.

  • WRT320N & IBM T42 laptop keeps dropping wireless connection at key times

I have an IBM T42 laptop whihc keeps dropping the wireless connection at what seems to be the same time windows each day.
I have my cable modem connected to my WRT320N.
My wireless it set up as follows :
    Manual configuration
Wireless Band = 2.4Ghz (Think it needs to be this for the T42 wireless).
    Network Mode = Mixed
    Channel Width = 20Mhz only
    Channel = 2
It seems to be that at approx 8pm each night when using the latop downstairs, the wireless connection will drop and then fail to reconnect for a period of time. I reboot the laptop and it will then begin to work again. The wireless connection does seem to keep trying to connect but it cannot maintain the connection to the router.
    Any ideas?

Well I've pretty much given up trying to get this router to work so have spoken to the supplier I bought it off who said it's now discontinued by Linksys - all support is through them now. Took it up with them went through all the steps I've done to try and troubleshoot it (helps to be an IBM engineer as I logically follow procedures through).
I've RMA''d the router and hope it's replacement works better. I've just unbricked my old WRT54GS to make do whilst I wait for a replacement - back down to 100mb traffic - I'll miss my gigabit switch for a while!

  • L875D-S7332 keeps dropping wireless connection

    HELP!!!
I have 4 Toshiba laptops that will not stay connected to the internet. They keep dropping the wireless. My latest one L875D-S7332 has Windows 8 which is the the biggest PITA yet.
All of them drop the internet though. I have reset the Yubi router, updated all of the drivers, have unchecked the shut the device down checkbox. Nothing works.
I am seeing this is almost a recall issue for Toshiba. I even called Toshiba and they had no help. They were going to escalate to Level 2 but I never received a response.
Anyone have any other thing I can try.
It is in device mgr and it says it is working fine.
    Thanks
    Jack

It is the power saver setting. I realize the original poster may have already given up or moved on but for the benefit of others you want to make sure your power setting is on high performance. The easiest way to do this is to click the battery icon at the bottom right of your screen. Go into the settings or advanced settings and simply change to high performance. Yes, it will cause your battery to have less life but you won't be tempted to throw your laptop out the window for dropping your wifi continuously.
