TC not issuing dchp address

Recently, i just configured my time capsule and everything was working fine until lately.  I have altogether 10 Mac/iOS devices.  2 days ago, my son noticed that his iPhone and iPad was getting intermittent or slow transmission from Time Capsule.  My own iPad had similar problem.  The wireless signal was strong though.  After doing turing the WIFI button on/off, restarting TC or ipad and Phones, it seemed like I managed to get my son phone/ipad to work normally.
However, my iPad continued to have problem where it detected the TC WIFI signal but failed to connect to internet.  After further checking, I now realised that it didn't manage to get a DHCP address from the TC.  I tried the to renew the DHCP lease as well but didn't work as well.  What can I do?    Thanks.
Regards
ray

What model TC and how old is it?? The actual model number will help, A1xxx from the base.
See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6324708?tstart=0 for how to find the number.
The firmware revision could also help.
And the network layout. Is the TC the main router in the network?
Screenshots help no end.
Simple solution.. start over. Factory reset the TC.
Please do not use apple recommended names.. use names that are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Use WPA2 Personal security and a pure alphanumeric password of 8-20 characters unless you are paranoid.

  • Not issuing IP addresses to all macs???

    Hi all,
Please help, our OSX server has stopped issuing IP addresses via DHCP to some of our macs. We have about 15 macs in the company and about 7 of them are not getting an IP address. If I put a manual IP address in I can get access to the server but no access to internet. All the other macs seem fine.
Can somebody shed any light on this as it's driving me mad!
I have never used OSX server before so I don't know much about it - sorry.
    Thanks in advance
    Brett

    Brett,
I am definately not an expert either but I had a similar problem... I have two ethernet ports on my xserve and I discovered I had indicated to the Server Admin / DCHP settings to use the wrong ethernet port to handle the distribution of IP addresses. Once I switched that the previously "lost" macs found addresses immediately.
    Hope this helps.

  • Clients not receiving dchp addresses from server

Our dhcp server (windows 2012) is failing to issues addresses to the pc's. Once the lease has expired on the pc (user goes on holiday for a week) the machine will fail to pick up an ip address on the users return.
The event viewer on the server reads "IP address range of scope is 95 percent full with only 7 IP address available"
I have gone through the dhcp scope of which there are 94 exclusions and i have a further 39 machines which require addresses.
On a class C subnet i should have far more than 7 addresses available.
Any thoughts as to what might be at fault here.

Just completed a major network upgrade... So decided it was time to stack some ofmy old switches! Can anyone date some of these things? And some before and after shots: The first one is of a distribution cabinet (2 x 10Gig Fiber link ag. to server room) on the other side of our site, the last two are of the core cabinet in my server room. Will take some more pictures later.

  • APs not getting IP addresses on Server 2008r2

Has anyone seen this?  We had about 30 APs drop off the network after a controller upgrade and had to be manually assigned an address.  We found that the APs are DHCP and have a reservation in the excluded range of the scope.  In the new version of DHCP in Server 2008r2, even with a reservation in an excluded range, DHCP will not issue those addresses to clients.  Deleting the reservation and letting the AP find a valid address in the range didn't work either.

Where are your APs?  Are they directly connected to your 2106, or are they connected to a switch like normal?
Assuming connected to a switch, the WLC config is irrelevant to an AP getting an IP address.  Whatever vlan your APs are in, they'll do a broadcast dhcp request and you'll need an ip helper-address or something to get it to your dhcp server..............
So do you see any kind of dhcp request make it to your server?
If this is directly connected APs, then perhaps someone else on the forum can share thier experience with this?

Is there really not an email address for tech support? ( I really do not want to waste time being put on hold on the phone.)
However, I have 3 Issues Regarding iPad 2 with IOS 7:
1.)  I can no longer open up the apps from the update page. (I used to be
able to & it was a quick way of making certain that I wanted to keep an app
    before I updated it.
2.)  I have many apps that I have updated since installing the new
operating system & they now have "open" symbols next to them, but I don't
know how to get them off of my update list (since that has already been
    done to them).
3.)  My iPad has gotten stuck or frozen more in this last week since the
new update then has in the last 2 years put together. (It seems to be stemming from the "Updates" page as sometimes  that page is just white & will not open, even though everything else opens & I have an internet connection.)

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • Apple ID will not accept email address

PLEASE HELP ME BEFORE I GO SPARE!!!!
Have updated my iPad to latest OS. When turning on for first time it is asking for my Apple ID and password. Enter these and fine to move on (noting that my Apple ID here is NOT my email address).
Next screen is called "Update Apple ID" and asks for an email address. I put in my email address that is linked to my account when using the "appleid.apple.com" website, but it now complains and will not let me continue. Error message is: "Try another Apple ID. This Apple ID is already being used. If this is your account, reset a forgotten password at iforgot.apple.com"
There seems no way around this. I have been through the reset password that was suggested, but only thing I've been able to achieve is now having a password that is different to all other ones I use and will now most likely get forgotten!  Even through the "appleid.apple.com" it will not let me change my Apple ID to my email address as it states that it is already in use (call me stupid, but I know it's in use, it me!!).
So I'm completely stuck in a closed loop with no escape. HELP!!!!!
"if" I had previously created a user with my email address, then surely the system would not have allowed me to set my email address to be the same as that other user. However, I don't recollect creating that user, and what's more, I cannot log in to that account as I can't guess the password. I've even tried getting the system to send me a reset password for that account, but it then simply resets MY password for MY account, which, as mentioned above, is beyond a joke.
Apple need to get their heads around passwords / email addresses / apple id's - if they have tightened up the security policies, then there are some loose ends that need correcting. I can't even see anywhere that would let me delete an unwanted apple id account.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks, a very very frustrated user!

Not trying to step on Philly's toes on this one - but If Philly's suggestion doesn't work, I would contact Apple. There have been a few reports of this Apple ID problem after updating the iOS in the past few days. Personally, I don't get it. If the Apple ID worked before the update, there is no reason why it should not work after the update.

  • Windows 8.1 will not issue a Domain Name Request.

I have a windows 8.1 system that will not issue a Domain Name Request to resolve a simple query such as www.microsoft.com.  It works OK in my Windows 7 system on the same computer.  I know this is happening because I run the Wireshark packet
trace on each system. Windows 7 issues the request; Windows 8 does not.  I can flush the DNS cache with "ipconfig /flushdns, net stop dnscache, net start dnscache".  When I try to do email,  Thunderbird can't find the server; when
I try to browse the internet, the browser(Opera, Chrome, Mozilla) can't resolver  the name.  ipconfig /all looks normal.  The Domain Name Server is hardwired (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4, or 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220).  Any ideas?

    Hi,
If you ping  the server with its IP address, could it work? If so, it should be your Windows 8.1 DNS components problem.
When this problem occures? If this problem just occures recently, it would be better to make system restore to revert your system to a former normal time point.
In not, firstly, try to reinstall NIC driver for test. Also check Event Viewer if it identify the problem.
As you said, you run Wireshark Packet. In my opinion, it would be better to run this tool to capture you network communication trace in Windows 8.1. This maybe could help you find the reason of the problem.
In addition, Network Monitor also a good choice to captuer network trace.

  • Create folder in Integration Directory - Can not be uniquely addressed

    Hi experts,
I have the following issue. When creating a folder in Integration Directory I get a warning info, like the following:
E.g. folder name should be "test"
"The folder test could not be uniquely addressed by the path /test/ because two or more folders share the same name"
I checked the repository for another folder with the same name but without success.
The point is, that I want to use the API to add objects to the folder. But without a unique address the creation will fail.
What makes this very strange is, that sometimes it works.
Is there any place in the repository where folder ids can be checked for uniqueness ?
    Thanks a lot.

  • IMac 6 issuing IP address's when plugged into the network.

I have an iMac 6 that I have on a Business Network, when I plug in the network cable it starts issuing IP address's which is creating havoc.  I have disabled Internet sharing.

Presumably you are using DHCP on your iPad and router to allocate local network IP addresses?
If so then your router has not given your iPad a valid IP address when the iPad requested it.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power to it for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), MAC address filtering being used, etc.

  • Cisco 891 not getting IP address with DHCP with latest IOS

    Hi,
I have a few Cisco 891 routers that are configured as DHCP clients on the WAN interface.
For some reason when I boot the router with a late IOS, the router is not receiving an address.
It works just as expected with the older IOSes.
    Any ideas of what changed?
This is how the interface is configured:
    interface FastEthernet8
     ip address dhcp
     no ip redirects
     no ip unreachables
     no ip proxy-arp
     duplex auto
     speed auto
     no cdp enable
    This IOS does not work:
    c890-universalk9-mz.154-3.M2.bin
    While these do work:
    c890-universalk9-mz.150-1.M7.bin
    c890-universalk9-mz.151-2.T2.bin
    c890-universalk9-mz.152-1.T1.bin
Doing a "show ip interface brief" shows that FastEthernet8 is unassigned with the affected IOS.
With the older IOSes there is an IP address.
I had to downgrade two routers due to this issue, and did not have  plenty of time to troubleshoot.
Both of the routers are connected to DSL from the same ISP...
Anyone seen anything like this  before?

Add another one to the list.
I have a MacBookPro3,1 that connects to WIFI no problem. It used to connect to ethernet when I originally bought it, however I've been using WIFI exclusively for the past 2 years.
Recently I had a need to connect via ethernet and it wouldn't work at home (apple airport router). I next tried connecting via ethernet at a friends house using a linksys WRT54G, no dice either. I have the computer in the lab today (University Network) and I get the same error. 3 different locations, 3 different routers, all same problem. It used to connect to home and university networks ethernet right away.
    IP address assigned is 169.xxx.xxx.xxx - subnet - 255.255.0.0
no other info. It's showing up as connecting to the network, but unable to communicate with DHCP. It does work if I enter all of the information in manually.
At first I thought I had messed something up in networking preferences as I tend to play around with things alot. However I did a complete system format, and fresh install of OSX Lion and I still have the same problem, without any of my meddling around to confuse things.
    What gives?

  • 5Th Gen AE Does Not Assign IP Address in Bridge Mode

I have three AEs in my house...two of which are 4th gen and one is 5th gen, and two of which are set up as bridge (a 4th gen and a 5th gen). The 5th gen does not generate ip addresses reliably...everytime I go to the room where the 5th gen AE is I have to turn off the wifi on my device and turn it back on to get an ip address. This happens 100% of the time. I have tried my MBP, as well as my iPhones (4s and 5.) I also noticed the ip address that is being assigned for the bridges is of totally different denimination. The 4th gen bridge gets an ip of 10.0.1.4 where as the 5th gen gets a 192.168.1.76...the DHCP address range for the main is 10.0.1.2 through 100 and it should be assigned one of those ips. I'm kinda suspecting this is why the bridge is not working properly. I just don't understand why this unit is acting this way. Any input to help solve this mystery will be greatly appreciated. CHEERS:-)

Did resetting to factory help this issue?  I'm having the same problem with my  5th and 3rd gen AE's.  I've added a new router (pfSense) and only need the AE's for access points.  The following is the result on some problem tracking:
Working on my network ip addressing issue.  I shut everything down.  I brought up my internal wired network of  pfSense router, internal switches, appleTv units, printers and a couple of computers.  All Addresses were correctly assigned.  I released/renewed the ip addresses to check if the address assigned would remain correct, and this test passed.
I then connected my cable modem to the internet, which connected with no problem.  I then again tested release/renew of addresses, and this test pasted with no problems.  And I had internet access.
My internal network follows the 10.0.1.xxx address range.  I leave 20-99 open as my dynamic range, and assign my AppleTv, DirecTv, SlingBox, and MacMini server to static addresses via MAC reservation.  All these are functioning correctly.
Final test.  I add my Airport Extreme 5th gen, which is in bridge mode, with no guest network, and the light turns green.  I open up my MacBook, connect via WiFi, and the address is 192.168.100.34, not correct.  I turn WiFi on my MacBook off, then I turn it on,  after three cycles I get a correct ip address.
I confirm via airport utility my settings.  I see nothing to change.  I replace my Airport Extreme 5th gen , with my older Airport Extreme 3rd gen, and I once again get a 192.168.100.22 address which is not correct.  I cycle the WiFi setting in my MacBook and after a few cycles, I get a correct address.
My DHCP server is an older Dell system running the linux based software pfSense.  I made this change after I started getting bad IP addresses from my Airport Extreme 5th gen.  My cable modem is a Zoom 5431J DOCSIS 3.0.  But my first test was verifying the assignment of addresses from pfSense, without the cable modem.
I've powered off both Airport Extremes and have checked the settings.  Not sure what else I might try with these Extreme units.

  • WRT610N V2 wired as 2ndary router to wired router, does not give IP address wirelessly

My WRT610N V2 is wired as 2ndary router to a wired router but it does not give IP address wirelessly to connected PCs.
It is getting DHCP IP address in the 192.168.1.xxx range from the 1st router, on its internet port, and issuing properly an IP addresses in the 10.10.1.xxx range thru its LAN port  when wired to a laptop.
But if I connect to its 10.10.2.xxx wireless network with another laptop, the wifi adapter utility software shows the laptop is connected, but the laptop is not receiving an IP address.  Please help in correcting this, as I need to use this router to give internet access wirelessly to guest laptops.
I know DDWRT does this kind of bridging with secondary DHCP when both routers are connected wirelessly, but it seems to me that if the 1st and 2nd router are wired together, DDWRT shuld not be needed for 2ndary HCP to take place.
And 2ndary DHCP is indeed working for those laptops wired to the 2ndary Cisco router: seems to me it should be able to do it also wirelessly.

    good day collegues
has any of you come across the following issue:
my switch (after upgrading to the newest firmware 1.3.5) does not assign IP addresses to some of the hosts.
after a couple of hours I managed (do not even how) to force my switch to assign IP addresses only to some of the hosts.
still some of them cannot get the IP address and remain with "funny" IP address like i.e. 169.254.100.100
    additional info
    1. if I boot my switch with the previous version of firmware (1.3.0.6) everything is OK. all my hosts get correct IP addresess
    2. the hosts which do not get IP address were perviously entered in stat host table - now removed, ARP cleared, etc, everything many many times rebooted.

Hi Andbor, please make a backup config of your file, factory reset the switch.
After this, manually configure a DHCP scope without any other configuration.
    Just something simple like this
    ip dhcp pool network GUESTS
    address low 10.10.14.1 high 10.10.14.254 255.255.255.0
    lease infinite

    default-router 10.10.14.254
    dns-server 10.10.10.1 62.233.233.233
Verify your machine receive IP address with no other configuration.
In some ways, I'm afraid some of your connections black listed due to the arp inspection.

  • HH5 won't issue DHCP addresses to new devices

My HH5 has stopped issuing DHCP addresses to new wifi  devices. It not a problem on laptops etc, as manually entered addresses work but it's a no go for smartphones.  Existing wifi devices continue to work ok.
I've reset to factory settings twice with no luck but trying another router linked to my old white VDSL modem works fine.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks, Roger

This is not a large scale deployment.
If you want to test & see the difference you can create DHCP pool either on your DHCP server or WLC connected switch.
It does not make sense defining DHCP at different places if you have a proper DHCP server. (typically WLC DHCP use for guest services where WLC placed in a DMZ where no direct connection with other corporate services & from security perspective you do not won't to mix these traffic with your corporate traffic)

One way though to eliminate the issue (although not a very good way) is to restore the phone as new.
