TC not seeing devices attached downstream via a ethernet switch

I have a number of switches in my home network and for whatever reason the TC is not seeing the devices downstream. I assume the TC works like every other router in existence and should be just fine working with ethernet switches. The switches work great on my old buffalo wap/router and if I turn off the buffalo wap/router, move the ethernet cables to the TC (reboot TC, not reboot doesn't matter) all the network devices go kaput.
Any suggestions would be great. I've tried everything turning TC off/on. Turning switches off/on, turning switch attached devices off/on. Nothing works. Plug switch ethernet cables back into the buffao wap/router and everything shows up just fine.
Stumped.

There are some issues which have popped up with the TC and some routers.. particularly that the WAN connection is not working correctly.
Try using one of the LAN ports on the TC and see if that helps.
Also open the Network utility in the computer and run the netstat scan .. it looks like this.
Locate the TC on the computer that is having issues.
Then ping it.. use the full domain..
eg in terminal mine is ping tcgen4.local
I think you should rename the TC to all smb names.. ie short, no spaces pure alphanumeric as it simply works better.
Then if the TC shows up in the ping, mount the hard disk manually,
In finder, Go connect to server and type
AFP://TCname.local (use the full domain name of the TC from the netstat scan).. or use the IP you get when you ping it.. although that is going to keep changing unless you can lock it.

  • No laughing...  I have a Canon ZR 300 camcorder.  I can not see it when connected via firewire in system profile and iMovie doesn't see it either.  Any suggestions?

I have an old Canon ZR 300 camcorder that I'm trying to connect to my 17" MBP via 9 pin firewire (its a 4 pin to 9 pin cable as the MBP doesn't have a 4 pin firewire - figured it was backwards compatible).  Anyhow, iMovie 09 doesn't see the camcorder.  I checked under System Profile and then under Firewire and it doesn't see it either.  In fact I get some red letters about not seeing firewire devices.  I'm running Lion.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Should using mixed wifi and ethernet clients on a timecapsule work?  if so is it a feature I can use out of the box so to speak?
    Thanks
No a TC cannot do what you want.. it is now in dumb stupid wireless join mode.. and it turns off the ethernet ports.. in case you want to use the TC as a wireless bridge to multiple clients which is plainly wrong.. (only airport express is allowed to do this since it has only one ethernet port).
Welcome to Apple. (The plainly wrong above is a figment of Apple imagination.. of strict network protocols.. but unhelpful for a home device. maybe also to encourage sales of expresses.)

  • My solution to not seeing devices in Airport Utility & iTunes

Since I let Airport Utility upgrade to version 5.4.1 I have had all sorts of problems seeing devices on my wireless network. From the PC desktop where the upgrade took place, iTunes could not see remote speakers on an AExp and Airport Utility could not see either my AExt or my AExp. I tried eveything I could think of; resetting devices, reloading older versions of software, turning off the firewalls, etc.. I talked with a very knowledgeable Apple tech-supt person for a long time.
The overall configurations is deskyop PC w/ Vista; HP laptop w/ Vista; older IBM laptop w/ XP; Airport Extreme on 5 Ghz; Airport Express on 2.4 Ghz bridged to AExt. All PC were running NORTON 360.
The solution at least for me:
    1) Upgraded iTunes to version 8.1 because I ordered a new 4 GByte Shuffle. Not here yet, it actually shipped directly from China via FEDEX currently in Memphis.
    2) Then I noticed if I turned off NORTON 360 firewall I could see remote speakers in iTunes.
    3) Tried Airport Utility, with firewall off, I could see AExt & AExp. This despite with iTunes ver 8.0 I had tried the same thing without success. Yes I know I did, I worked for over 40 years in computer field, so when trying to diagnose / solve a problm I keep very detailed notes.
    4) Then started researching NORTON 360 and discovered a very new release version 3 had come out in last week or so. It got very good reviews in terms of new features and speed enhancements on the internet.
    5) The price was right, free if you have an active subscription for NORTON 360. I downloaded it and installed it. All issues immediately went away. Please read I am now a happy camper. Installed it on the other two laptops same result. They claim it will install in less than 1` minute. Not quite, but pretty fast. It also speeds many things up, like itunes loads in a reasonable time. It actually seems to be Apple aware.
    6) This site reviews 360 version 3 and points you to how to download. http://thetechangel.com/blogberry/2009/03/norton-360-version-3-out-now-plus-good -news-for-existing-users/
    7) Life is good! I have no affliation with Norton, just have used their products for a long time.
Try it, I hope it wqorks for you.

After a factory default reset, the AirPort will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN
Can your computer "see" this network? If so, be sure that you connect to it first before attempting to access it with the AirPort Utility.
If your computer can connect to this network, but it is still unable to access it with the AirPort Utility, try temporarily connecting the computer to the Extreme using an Ethernet cable.

  • Airport Utility does not see devices

Ok... this started because i noticed that iTunes was not seeing my remote speakers connected to the airport express... so i start looking into it. Mind you, the whole time i am connected to my wireless network. I have an airport extreme that is connected to the cable modem and an airport express on the other side of the apartment that has the speakers connected to it. My wife's laptop sees both devices, as does the iMac... when i run airport utility on both, no problems. However, when i run it on my MacBook Pro... nothing, i rescan and rescan.... and nothing.
Any ideas on what i should be looking at?

Me too- but I have a Leopard G5 tower that can still see the Airport Express (g) and I have a Tiger MacBook that can also see it. Both can see it via the utility and via iTunes. But my Leopard MacBook Pro cannot see it for either service, though my connection still works. When I restart the Airport, I can briefly see it in the Utility, but it never reads the config and just spins forever. I've reinstalled the utility, but no dice.

  • Time machine will not see USB attached drive

I am having some difficulty getting Time Machine to see a USB attached Lacie drive. I can get it to mount through the finder, but Time Machine will not see it. It also works fine through a direct firewire connection. I have all of the current updates. Any help is appreciated.

Well after much trial and error I figured it out. I had to enable file sharing with a disk password. Before I had it set up for accounts and it was not mounting properly.

How can I DOWNGRADE to itunes 11 ?

Yes. Reinstall iTunes. If that is the point at which you stopped trying the support suggestions then it makes sense to me, that you move on to the next suggestion and if reinstalling iTunes is the next suggestion, so be it.
However ....  I too have issues that arise out of the blue with my iPad being recognized in iTunes and what I always do and it eventually works is to quit iTunes, restart my MacBook, and reboot my iPad.
Rebooting the iPad is the last thing that I do and only if I have no success with quitting iTunes and restarting the Mac. It may take a few tries to work, but if you are that dead set against reinstalling iTunes, then give it a try.

  • Can you tell the IP address of a device attached to a 6500 Catalyst Switch

I have devices attached to a Catalyst switch, and I wanted to find out which device is attached where by checking the IP address of a specific device attached to a port. The ARP tables don't show any devices. Anyone know a quick/dirty way to do this?

The arp table on your switch does not show this as the switch does not talk to devices directly and thus does not need this information. Do this:
    - From the switch ping devices you want to find where attached to.
    - type "sh arp" on the switch. This time it will contain the information you need.
    Similar to this:
    switch6500> (enable) sh arp
ARP Aging time = 1200 sec
    + - Permanent Arp Entries
    * - Static Arp Entries
    10.0.0.1 at xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx port 1/1 on vlan 15
    10.0.0.30 at yy-yy-yy-yy-yy-yy port 1/1 on vlan 15
    switch6500> (enable) ping 10.0.0.20
    ----10.0.0.20 PING Statistics----
5 packets transmitted, 5 packets received, 0% packet loss
    round-trip (ms) min/avg/max = 1/1/1
    switch6500> (enable) sh arp
ARP Aging time = 1200 sec
    + - Permanent Arp Entries
    * - Static Arp Entries
    10.0.0.1 at xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx port 1/1 on vlan 15
    10.0.0.30 at yy-yy-yy-yy-yy-yy port 1/1 on vlan 15

  • ITunes 10.2 Upgrade fix temporary. Fix to iTunes 10.2.2 by uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support and install AMDS from 10.0. Worked only to fail in 5 days. iTunes back to very slow to open and will not see device (iPhone) connected. Sorry

I was one this site for 20+ Days and found a fix for 10.2.1 when it failed. I Uninstalled all, following other attempts that failed, then installed latest Version from Apple iTunes 10.2.12. I then uninstalled Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS) and installed AMDS from the older 10.0 version of iTunes. Success it worked. Today, I am now back to old problem, iTnes takes very long time to open and fails to see my device when connected (iPhone). I really only have iTunes for my iPhone no extensive library a few hundred CD's in music location and no podcasts. I have less than 6 moveis and want to update them now. I am willing to lose all in iTunes library if need be just to get computer to see G3 iPhone with iOS 4.2 and let me synch once again. I like security of backup too. It older iTunes may now not support, that too is OK. I still want to get the 3GS (no 4G desires, yet) and do not care if any of it is the latest from Apple as long as it works.

    Hi Erik,
Your basic suggestion actually worked for me. But this is what I did for others who are having issues removing/installing etc.
    1. Download the latest iTunes 8.2. You should end up with a file iTunesSetup.
    2. If you dont already have WinRAR, download free copy from http://www.rarlab.com/ and install.
    3. Right click on iTunesSetup and choose "Extract" to somewhere you know. eg C:\itunetemp
    4. Open up folder where you extracted iTunesSetup and double-click applemobiledevicesupport.msi
    5. It should ask you if you want to repair or remove... choose remove.
    6. REBOOT your PC.
    7. Go back to where you extracted iTunesSetup and double-click applemobiledevicesupport.msi and go through the install.
    8. Plug in your iPhone.
If all is well iTunes should automatically start and start syncing your iPhone.
    Goodluck all!
    Cheers.

  • Approve room booking BUT not seeing the attachment

    Hi,
Is it possible when setting a room for individual approving to NOT let that approver see any document that the organizer might have attached? We have request from users here where they want to set all their rooms to be approved by front desk staff and they
don't want them to see the agenda that are also included in the booking.
We are using Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2007.
    Best regards,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
Agree with Amit. Based on my knowledge, I'm afraid that there is no built-in feature in Exchange to hide the meeting request attachment to the approver (front desk staff) only.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • My iMac can not see my mini Mac via Airport extreme using host name, only via IP address. What am I doing wrong ?

I have an iMac and a mini Mac attached to the same Airport extreme. It would appear that Bonjour works because I can see the hostname of the mini Mac server in Finder on the iMac.
But if I type in the host name (myminimac.private) in the Safari browser at the iMac it can not find the mini mac. However if I type in the IP address of the mini mac server it can see the see it.
It used to work but I must have done something to mess it up.
    Anybody any suggestions ?

You have the wrong card. You need the original AirPort card for your G4.

  • Macs not seeing Time Capsule connected via Ethernet to router

Just bought a new Time Capsule to replace one where the hard disk failed.  I have a fibre router which is my primary WiFi network and the Time Capsule is connected to that by Ethernet.  The Time Capsule shows up in the Wired connections of the router so I know that the router can see the TC.  I have the Time Capsule set up to supply a separate WiFi network under a different SSID for legacy purposes as I have devices that are configured to that SSID before I got my new router.
The new TC will not backup successfully unless the Macs are connected to the TC SSID, failing with the message that the Backup Disk cannot be found.  This is different from the behaviour of the last TC where the Macs would see the network drive even when connected to the router SSID.
I'm sure there is a simple setting that I'm missing that would just make this work, but I can't work it out...

There are some issues which have popped up with the TC and some routers.. particularly that the WAN connection is not working correctly.
Try using one of the LAN ports on the TC and see if that helps.
