TC Restores FAIL after IP change?

ISP came to fix a problem with our PVR, and ended up switching out router as well as the PVR box. Along the way there were unintentional but nonetheless disastrous changes were made whereby the time capsule IP address was changed.
Since then I CANNOT SEE ANYTHING OLDER THAN YESTERDAY! All I get is black windows when looking in time machine mode! HELP! I have a similar problem with my MacPro which has all my 80,000 photos and it's now saying it cannot verify so I have to start over again???? What a gong show!

The actual work done seems irrelevant at this point, but I know that the DHCP assigned IP is different from before and that is the only thing that changed. Before when I've replaced my Mac hard drive, you basically have to start over from scratch and that makes sense to me. The unit is happily running steady green throughout.
Yes the backups from yesterday are OK, but the ones before that the slider on the right goes back to when I bought the laptop last year, but the corresponding windows come back black as night with zero inside content. I am sure if I extract the sparesebundle file I can see my data but I have seen this movie before and I hate the ending....

After sending the appropriate logs to the TAC I learned that even though the restore looked to have failed, at 80% the actual restore has been completed and what was failing was the node synchronization.   With this knowledge I was able to access the admin GUI and manually sync up the other nodes and have been running without issue.
As it turns out this is  documented issue, CSCur36983, and will be fixed in release 1.4.
Here is the reply I received from the TAC:
"Based on the logs sent, we're definitely hitting CSCur36983 which will be
    fixed in ISE 1.4:
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCur36983/
According to the bug details, when we reach 80% the restoration part itself
has already completed. What is failing is a sync with the rest of the nodes
in the deployment. Therefore, you can reload the ISE at this point and you
should have access to the admin GUI again. From there, you can force a sync up  with the other nodes."

  • Backup Restore Failed After iOS5 Upgrade

I did the iOS5 install on my iphone 4 yesterday and it went off perfectly.  However, this evening, I did the same on my wife's iphone 4.  Prior to doing the download, I did a Backup and a Restore Purchases. When the process came to the Restore point, I received the error message that the restore from backup had failed. Each time we plugged the phone back into itunes, it prompted us to complete the restore process but with the same message. Consequently, my wife's phone lost all contacts, photos, and apps. I manually re-entered her contacts, plugged back into itunes, and performed another backup. We then attempted to restore from backup once again with the failure message following. I'm almost sure that we cannot recover her photos, but if anyone on the forum has a suggestion, we'd appreciate it. Also, what is the safest and most surefire way to backup photos and contacts on the iphone 4 ?  JEFF

My husband updated my phone on the 15th... same identical thing happened. I've lost all photos, text messages, and contacts since the las backup. It did download 5.0, but I lost everything. I spent 2.5 hours on the phone with an apple advisor and they needed to research it further and would call me back......hasn't happened yet. If they find a way, I will post it. What error message did you receive... mine was (-50).

  • Time Machine restore failing after 08 MacBook Pro updated to Maverick.

    hi,
    I have a 2.53GHz processor intel core 2 duo. 4GB 1067MHz DDR3 MacBook pro, circa 2008, and running Lion since 2012.
I have been backing up using a 1TB time capsule for the last 2 years.
Now I have just had a clean install to Maverick OSX10.9.5, but cannot see any files in the time machine pre-dating the install.
when I enter the time machine, the date bar on the right shows all the old backup dates, and will 'scoot' back to them, but all the finder window images are black, and will not populate with any data at all.
I've tried restoring from applications - that doesn't work either.
I have tried using the migration assistant and that doesn't see any HD prior to the clean install.
its bugging and worrying me (lost baby photos drama)
notebook to notebook migration help page says something about the source OS needing to be Mountain lion or newer, but does this apply to time machine back ups as well?
I didn't have this information prior to the update. boo.
can anyone shed some light for me?

While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to restore.

  • Help -- iTunes Keeps Restoring Metadata After I Change It

I've spent a lot of time editing the metadata form my iTunes library.  Specifically, I erase the composer data for all albums except classical.
However, the data keeps re-appearing for some iTunes.  For example, I'll spend time erasing all composer metadata.  I'll sign on in a few days, and for about 5 or six albums, the data has re-appeared.  I'll erase the composer tag again or replace it with a "space", but in a few days it's bad.  It's odd that this always happens with about 4 or 5 albums.  And then some albums it happens randomly.  On one hand, all of these albums have been downloaded from iTunes.  But I've got many, many downloaded albums that don't have this problem.
I do have a subscription to iTunes Match, but I've turned it off on the computer in question.
This is driving me nuts.  Any suggestions?
(ETA:  Is it possible that Match is replacing the information on my iPhone and that is over-writing iTunes?)

Yes, others are seeing this. Something in purchased media (I am pretty sure this has only happened with purchased media) is periodically checking back with the iTunes Store and resetting the tags in the iTunes library file but not in the actual media files (metadata are stored in both). I haven't seen a truly systematic diagnosis of the issue (I use an old iTunes and have no iTunes account so I can't test anything myself). There are temporary workarounds but tags will still revert after a time. 2014 discussion about edited tags for Store purchases reverting to originals - https://discussions.apple.com/message/26077896 - edited tags are still present in the media file but revert to the originals in the iTunes library file. Workaround is to refresh tags so media file tags are re-read and used in library file. https://discussions.apple.com/message/26193185 Send feedback to Apple about this so they know it is an issue they need to investigate: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html Don't expect an immediate solution but maybe the next time they update the software it may be resolved.

  • Sudo fails after password change

I've been fighting with sudo for some while now. The cause is, it won't accept any password from accounts that I've made changes to it's passwords lately. Though, editing sudoers to gain root acess without passwords works ok.
I really don't know what to look for, tryed basic stuff like reinstalling sudo and messing with visudo, but nothing really promising (except for the "without password" bit).
Hope for some light from you, expert archers. (not those with bows and arrows )

Sorry for my lack of attention on this topic.
Until this problem I was using the whell group scheme, but then I tried adding my username to sudoers, but no change. Only if I activate NOPASSWD.
    Mu sudoers:

    # This file MUST be edited with the 'visudo' command as root.
    # Failure to use 'visudo' may result in syntax or file permission errors

Which authentication method do you use?
Not sure about what you're talking about, but I think it's PAM.
Are the computers standalone, NIS, ldap?
It's just one computer with 3 users... nothing complex.
When I (user adriano) try to use sudo with this method:
    $sudo echo ok
We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:
#1) Respect the privacy of others.
    #2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.

    Sorry, try again.

    Sorry, try again.
    sudo: 3 incorrect password attempts
    When NOPASSWD is activated:
    $sudo echo ok
    ok
Using Whell group gives the same result as both above
Before The password change, this "banner" would never show up if you had the right to use sudo.

  • Authentication on local SQL Server 2008 R2 Express server fails after Lan Manager authentication level changed to "Send NTLMv2 response only\refuse LM & NTLM"

I'm upgrading my organisation's Active Directory environment and I've created a replica of our environment in a test lab.
One medium-priority application uses a SQL server express installation on the same server that the application itself sits on.
The application itself recently broke after I changed the following setting in group policy:
"Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated"
    to
    "Send NTLMv2 response only\refuse LM & NTLM"
The main intent was to determine which applications will break if any - I was very surprised when troubleshooting this particular application to find that the issue was actually with SQL Server express itself.
The errors I get are as follows (note that there are hundreds of them, all the same two):

All of the documentation that I have followed suggests that the errors are caused by incorrect SPN configuration- I figured that they were never correct and it has always failed over to NTLM in the test environment (I can't look at production - we couldn't
replicate the setup due to special hardware and also RAM considerations), but only NTLMv2 has issues.
So I spent some time troubleshooting this.  We have a 2003 forest/domain functional level, so our service accounts can't automatically register the SPN.  I delegated the write/read service principle name ACEs in Active Directory.  SQL Server
confirms that it is able to register the SPN.
So next I researched more into what is needed for Kerberos to work, and it seems that Kerberos is not used when authenticating with a resource on the same computer:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191153.aspx
In any scenario that the correct username is supplied, "Local connections use NTLM, remote connections use Kerberos".  So the above errors are not Kerberos (since it is a local connection it will use NTLM).  It makes sense I guess - since
it worked in the past when LM/NTLM were allowed, I don't see how changing the Lan Manager settings would affect Kerberos.
So I guess my question is:
What can I do to fix this? It looks like the SQL server is misconfigured for NTLMv2 (I really doubt it's a problem with the protocol itself...).  I have reset the SQL service or the server a number of times.  Also - all of my other SQL applications
in the environment work.  This specific case where the application is authenticating to a local SQL installation is where I get the failure - works with LAN Manager authentication set to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated",
but not "Send NTLMv2 response only\refuse LM & NTLM".
Note also - this behaviour is identical whether I set the Lan Manager authentication level at the domain or domain controller level in Active Directory - I did initially figure I had set up some kind of mismatch where neither would agree on the authentication
protocol to use but this isn't the case.

Maybe your application doesn't support "Send NTLMv2 response only. Refuse LM & NTLM".

  • My status change to pass from fail after 40 days. Microsoft Exam 74-409 Score

    Microsoft update 74-409 exam.
My status change to pass from fail after 40 days..
Recived below email. is this possible ?
    Dear Valued Customer,
You recently took Microsoft Exam 74-409: Server Virtualization with Windows Server Hyper-V and System Center. After close evaluation of the exam, we have made some revisions that resulted in a change to your exam results. We are pleased to inform you that your
status has been changed to ‘PASS’. This update will be reflected in your official transcript within two weeks. A new score report will be mailed to you within two weeks.
Thank you for taking this exam and for your support of our program.

Yes its possible, but its also possible that its a scam trying to entice you to provide information that could be used for identity theft.  I would wait a couple weeks and then check your transcript on the MCP site.  If the exam shows then it was
for real.  If it doesn't then it was probably a fake message.
The reason it might be for real could be that someone challenged the clarity of one of the questions in their comments and Microsoft decided after looking into it that some question was misleading.  This might have lead them to accept more than one
answer or to throw the question out.  That could have modified your score in some way and promoted you above the Pass line.  It is possible, but not likely.

    Hello Tychos,
I am able to make a sqlplus connection, but your hint send me in the correct direction. I had a special character "@" in the password and I think that was the reason for my problems with RMAN.

  • Restore Desktop Icons after Resolution Change

I often give talks using a projector. The projector has a lower resolution than my display. This causes my desktop icons to pile up in a jumble. Worse, when I return to the standard resolution after the talk, my desktop is still in a mess!
I seem to recall earlier versions of Tiger/Leopard could remember the locations of the icons and restore them after switching back to the native resolution.
Is there a solution for this? Possibly I have a preference set wrong so that the restore does not take place?
Sorry if this is already answered but I didn't see it come up searching the forums.

I never tried it, but if you have one Space for your presentations and another for your usual work, will the unseen desktop still get the icons "mangled?" I would think the resolution change would only apply to the Space that you are using. Maybe not.
Consider this, then - create another user just for the presentations. My rhetoric question would be, would the icons of the original user still get "mangled" if you used the new account for the presentations?
If neither of these solutions work, then the alternative terminal solution would work. You would simple restore the original .DS_Store file. You could write a simple script to do that.
I'll follow your ideas shortly, thanks .. and they make a lot of sense.
BTW: are you a Nero Wolfe fan?
    Yes
I've got them all, I think, been reading them for over 20 years, and re-read them every couple of years or so.
I have the entire corpus, the A&E shows, including widescreen double-length European versions and all the OTR shows. Guess that makes me a fanatic
I also look for the "Pastiches" .. I've got 6 of Goldsborough's but haven't found others.
Nero Pastiches have not interested me, but I have many of those of Holmes' plus the Sacred Canon, the Brett TV series, almost every movie, the Russian series, OTR, etc.
Believe it or not, I learned a great deal of computer diagnosis from these stories. Their value greatly transcends their genre. You get to look past the obvious.

  • JWS Desktop shortcut fails to update after JNLP change in 1.6.0 update 18

Has anyone else noticed the desktop shortcut fail to update after a change to the JNLP with the latest Java 1.6.0 update 18 release?
Here are the steps we've found to replicate the issue on Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 using both IE and Firefox:
    1) Download a JWS application and allow the desktop link to be created
    2) Inspect the desktop shortcut and notice the path to the JNLP cache entry
    3) Modify the JNLP at the server
    4) Run the application via the desktop link - at this point the application will download updates and execute without issues.
    5) Close the application - upon close, JWS will remove the old JNLP cache entry if the JNLP contained the security/all-permissions directive
    6) Inspect the desktop shortcut again - notice that the path to the JNLP cache entry will remain unchanged
    7) Launch the application again using the desktop link - JWS will fail with a cache exception if the JNLP contained the security/all-permissions element or will just run from the old JNLP
I've submitted a bug but just wanted to confirm that others are encountering the same issue.
    Thanks,
    Troy

    Thanks for confirming.
This issue seems to continually creep into the Java releases. In the 1.6.0 releases, the issue is resolved in update 7 through update 11. Update 12, 13, and 14 all had various JNLP issues but I did find this specific issue with update 14. It was fixed again in update 15 and remained fixed through update 17.
I submitted two bugs and provided a simple sample application on our production site to use for testing with a url to update the last modified time. If bug is accepted, I'll post it here for others to vote for a fix.

I was reading that if boot.properties file is present, the start/stop scripts do not ask for the weblogic credentials. I could see the boot.properties file under the domain directory but the contents are encrypted. How can we resolve this? Any help is appreciated.
    Regards.

    the simplest solution is
    - either delete the boot.properties; weblogic will ask you the credentials at the next start
    - or edit manually the boot.properties, inserting non-encrypted values; weblogic will encrypt the password at the next start

  • HT201263 After forcing iPad into recovery mode and choosing Restore, restore fails and returns a 1600 error. What is my next step? Can you force a restore?

iPad has blank screen.  Screen froze and went blank.  Have not been able to get any response.  Forced in to recovery mode, but restore fails with a 1600 unknown error.  Has anyone had any success in reviving an ipad in this state?

These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
    Error 1600, 1601, 1602
Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for  details on troubleshooting security software.
