TC says "No disks found"

I've been using my time capsule for a few weeks now, but suddenly, backups always failed. When I looked at it in the Airport Utility, no disks are available under "Disks" anymore. Rebooted it, no avail.
Time to make a trip to the apple store?

According to the ASUS K8V SE DELUX manual from
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=K8V%20SE%20Deluxe
there are a few SATA BIOS options:
1.
OnChip SATA Boot Rom [Enabled] (or [Diabled])
Allow you to enable or disable the onchip Serial ATA ROM
2.
OnBoard Promise Controller [Enabled] (or [Disabled])
Allow you to enable or disable the onboard Promise RAID controller
3.
Operating Mode [Raid] (or [Onboard IDE Operate Mode])
This item sets the onboard Promise controller operating mode.
This item appears only when the Onboard Promise Controller
is set to Enabled.
4.
A "VIA RAID" configuration utility
5.
A "PROMISE RAID" configuration utility.
Option #1 & #4 are apparently for the VIA VT8237 southbridge
chipset. And Options #2, #3 and #5 are for the Promise PDC20378
RAID controller.
The VIA VT8237 southbridge chipset should implement the
standard PCI-IDE controller using IRQ 14&15 which Solaris x86
supports. But it seems there is no BIOS option to enable
"legacy IDE mode" for SATA disks connected to the VIA VT8237.
I guess the only way to install Solaris x86 to an ATA disk on this
box is to install a P-ATA HDD connected to one of the 40-pin
P-ATA connectors for the VIA VT8237 southbridge.

  • Solaris 10 installation gives error "No disk Found"

During the installation of Solaris 10 on dell XPS400, it gives error that says no Disk found:
I have already partitioned by disk in the following manner:
1st partition: 30 GB: NTFS (WIn XP installed)
2nd Partiion: 20 GB: NTFS (data)
    3rd Partition: 25GB: RAW
is there any special setting that I need to do for Solaris to detect the hard disk.
    Please help!

I do not think you need a driver for the disk.
... you need to reconfigure your system with respect to the DISK CONTROLLER.
Solaris 10 "doesn't do Serial ATA very well".
Search the forum, keyword sata and then read and read and read.
I believe you need to reconfigure something in the PC's BIOS.
However, that may have an impact on how well your current install of WinXP works.
So, I suggest you just go get an additional disk, a conventional IDE drive (not a SATA disk),
and install to that new drive instead.
Then you choose whichever device you want as the boot drive each time you power it on.
... or just go get an older, used computer and dedicate it to operating systems other than Windows. Leave the Dell system alone.

  • V440 No Disks Found Error

    Hey all,
I have 2 v440 with 2 disks in slot 0 & 1(in each node). I'm attempting to install S10u8, but I'm getting an error saying, "No Disks Found" during the initial install.
On the 1st node I was able to install it on one system, but it only saw c1t1d0 and does not see c0t0d0. I've done devfsadm and no go. I have the latest patches installed as well as the latest OBP and firmware/patch installed.
Also, the system does have the latest firmware-version for the v440 issues.
    prtconf -vp | grep 'firmware-version:'
    firmware-version: '1.03.11.01'
The 2nd node is the one that is giving me the "No Disks Found" error.
    Has anyone experienced this before?

    Hello,
On the 1st node I was able to install it on one system, but it only saw c1t1d0 and does not see c0t0d0.
Is this a typo (c0 and c1, should read c0t0d0 and c0t1d0) ? If yes, reseat the disks (as Martin already suggested).
Otherwise do you expect to see some of the internal disks on one controller and the remaining on the other ?
After reviewing the "Matrix of Recognized Device Paths"-InfoDoc, the SCSI backplane is attached to one channel of the SCSI controller. The second channel is the external connector on the back.
*Please post the output of probe-scsi-all or at least confirm that the disks are displayed at the ok-prompt.*
Alterrnatively review the disk status via ALOM, this allows to get the information even on production systems without bringing them down.

  • "no disks found"

I just setup my Timecapsule, and either its broken or I am missing something fundamental. It works as a base station and the LED is green. But Time Machine can't find it. Using the advanced setup function in the AirPort Utility, no disks show up in the "Disks" menu. Did I get a time capsule without disk?
I tried it with a MacBook and MacBook Pro, wired as well as wireless. Both run 10.5.2. Otherwise, the TC seems to work fine.

I'm having the same problem. Everything was working fine for a while, backups occurring hourly on both an imac and MBP but suddenly no connection to the time capsule harddrive. The router portion still works, airport utility still finds the time capsule but under "disks" it says "No Disks Found." I did a hard reset last night and set up time capsule from scratch and it all connected and under "Disks" it listed the time capsule disk. This morning, no connection and no disks listed. Any other possibilities than a bad unit?
    Thanks.

  • No disks found despite USB HD being connected

I have spent today my wifi network set-up with my MacBook & a PC. This works fine, but I can't seem to get the remote hard drive recognized. This is plugged directly into the USB port & powered via its own supply.
The AP Utility says "No disks found". This is the same both via the Mac & the PC. I have tried plugging the HD directly into both computers without problems.
I've tried powering-down both the HD & the AirPort Extreme a few times but it makes no difference.
The APE is running 7.4.2 software.
I'm not sure what else to try ... Any help greatly appreciated!

The first thing I would do is reformat the drive. Plug it into your MacBook, run Disk Utility, and erase it with MacOS Extended (Journaled) selected. If you really want to be thorough, before formatting, re-partition it using the GUID Partition Table scheme.

  • NO DISKS FOUND??????? on install

ya know i was hoping to leave MS crap and bloatware behind. but if i cant get this thing installed ill hafta stay with it.
this is as far as i got:
the solaris install console windows is showing it says in it
    "executing begin script "install_begin"
the cdrom light looks like its reading and installing SOMETHING. then after about 20 minutes it says this.
    "begin script install_begin execution completed".
and this window pops up and says
    "No disks found"
now i know this is and old machine "hp netserver LM"
it has 3 1GB hard drives and 96 mb of ram.
linux zips right along on the same machine

  • Solaris 10 - "No Disks found"

I have a Sun Ultra 60, and I recently downloaded the four ISO images for Sun Solaris 10. The installation begins without problems, but after I select the installation media (CD/DVD), I get an error that says:
"No Disks found. Check to make sure disks are powered up."
I know the disk is powered and connected (I can hear it), OBP can see it, and when I type "probe-scsi," it returns my hard disk and cd-rom drive.
What should I be doing differently?

    format keeps giving me
    Segmentation Fault.
Format in Opensolaris sees the disk as a single partition, but returns seg.fault
The disk is formatted with ext2.
I tried making up a Sun Label partition (=the whole disk) with fdisk on a Linux, but the result with Opensolaris format is the same.
    I tried
    boot -s
    fdisk <what device here???>
Does fdisk in Linux remove everything or is it that having formatted my disk with ext2 has destroyed the good Sun Label.
Is it possible to erase everything. What would format do then?
Why booting the flash-update on a cdrom and usb-key doesn't work? Why is that OBP-image twice the size of a floppy disk, so that I cannot use floppy to boot it?

download songs to my computer. I burn them to a cd but when I insert cd into car cd player it says no files found. Have had this happen in two seperate vehicles.

Reboot your mac and hold down the mouse button to eject the CD-R in the drive. Then you could try it again or use another CD-R.
Slot-in drives always report the tray open if no media is recognized, nothing unusual in this case.

I know many have this issue but i can't find a solution to the problem. i get message saying insuffisiant disk space in the volume iPhoto library and i have plenty of space available. i have the new macbook pro with retina display. i have never seen this message before and i have 2 other macbooks and have had many other also. i am assuming this is a problem with the new macbook retina. does anyone know the exact fix to this issue? i have seen many sugestions to try to fix this issue but none have solved the issue for anyone that i can find in the Apple Support Community. thank for looking into this in advance.
    ******A true apple fan********

Actually your suggestions are the ones that i have tried. i have seen that you have tried to help others with this issue and the only one that i could find that said they found the problem said that it was an ilife update issue and it fixed it and i have no available updates. i know it has to do with something in photo stream because it happens when i create a new library and it is loading the photos but i get the message before i reach the maximum 1000 photos. so i've tried updating, new library(first backing up photos and then deleting them from iPhoto), reinstalling OSX many times, running disc utilities. I called Apple the first day i had this issue and i was the first person to call them for support with the retina display and i actually had it escalated to a senior advisor and we thought we fixed the problem but we did not. i am pretty fluent in dealing with troubleshooting these type of issues and this is the first time i'm reaching out to the community. i figured now that the retina has been out some time now that there would be an obvious answer to this issue. thanks for the quick reply.

  • Finder says Home Disk  is full, utilities say I've only used 93Gb of 232Gb

Earlier this evening I all of a sudden got an alert that my disk was full, 232Gb. 0Gb remaining.
It said I needed to renove some files. I tried. I removed about 10 Gb, but it didn't give me any more space.
I booted from my Clone to to see if I could run dik utility repair. It came up saying the disk was fine.
Repaired Permissions. Everything came up OK there too.
I ran Disk Warrior from it;s disk and it came up stating that I was only using 93Gb of 232Gb. (Which is what I remembered and was about how much my recent Carbon Copy Clone added up to)
I tried WhatSize and it said the same. I'm currently waiting for a license for Tager Cache Cleaner to see if it will help. None of the utilities is finding any hidden large files.
I've also tried backing up the mail folder and removing Envelope Index, but, of course, that made Mail crash since it's being told there's no room on the hard drive. I'm totally stumped.
I imagine there's some corrupt file somewhere, but I'm not getting a fix on it.
Recent changes to the drive - I upgraded to 10.4.9 a few ays ago. Had to install a third party driver for my HP PSC 2175 - hpijs-foomatic-2.0.2.
Printer stopped working earlier today and I had to reinstall CUPS and then the driver again before printer would work. Sortly thereafter that I got the error message about disk full.

I just found this discussion at the MacFixIt forums. You might read it carefully, and also take a look at the MacOSXHints article mentioned:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070319143243249
I have a batch of those job history files as well so thought I would try removing them and see what happened. I first got myself a root shell:
    NoobiX:~ francine$ sudo -s
Hit return and entered my password, hit return again, then changed directory:
    NoobiX:~ root# cd /private/var/spool/cups
Hit return and ran a list command:
    NoobiX:/private/var/spool/cups root# ls -al
    total 304
    drwx--x--- 41 root lp 1394 Mar 26 21:59 .
    drwxr-xr-x 7 root wheel 238 Aug 3 2006 ..
    -rw------- 1 root lp 3571 Aug 24 2006 c00001
    -rw------- 1 root lp 3574 Aug 24 2006 c00002
    -rw------- 1 root lp 3505 Dec 8 00:24 c00003
    ....and so on.... down to
    -rw------- 1 root lp 3531 Mar 26 21:59 c00038
    drwxrwx--T 2 root lp 68 Dec 21 22:37 tmp
Which verified I was in the right place. I tried removing just one of the files:
    NoobiX:/private/var/spool/cups root# rm c00001
which worked fine. I then decided doing this would be tedious, so tried this:
    NoobiX:/private/var/spool/cups root# rm -r *
There is a space between the rm and -r and after -r before the * (a wildcard). That was probably a mistake since it not only nuked the history files but also the tmp directory. I should have probably used something like rm -r "c*" (since all the history files begin with c that should have got them and spared the tmp folder). I tried recreating the tmp folder with this:
    NoobiX:/private/var/spool/cups root# mkdir tmp
    Which seemed to work:
    NoobiX:/private/var/spool/cups root# ls -al
    total 0
    drwx--x--- 3 root lp 102 Jun 7 12:00 .
    drwxr-xr-x 7 root wheel 238 Aug 3 2006 ..
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root lp 68 Jun 7 12:00 tmp
But being a suspicious sort I ran Disk Utility to Repair Permissions and it did indeed report an error on the /private/var/spool/cups/tmp folder, but it did repair the permissions on the folder successfully, so I'm assuming all is now OK. Of course, I haven't actually tried printing anything yet...
If you choose to try this after you finish type exit and hit return to kill the root shell, then quit Terminal.

  • Downloaded Mountain Lion from App Store, but it says by disk is locked and won't let me choose the hard drive for installation

I'm struggling to get Mountain Lion installed on my machine, but what is worse is that it has essentially rendered my computer useless (and of course I need to use it urgently). After downloading and installing from the App Store, I have run into some significant problems.
On install, when prompted to "select the disk where you want to install OS X" the hard drive is greyed out and a message comes up that says "The disk is locked."
So when I back out of the install, I am given the option for Disk Utility, Reinstall OS X (same results as before)  or Restore from Backup (not backed up).
On the Disk Utility, I can hit Verify Disk and it names an error and says to hit Repair Disk. The error is an "Invalid Sibling Link. The volume Macintost HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired." Unfortunately, Repair Disk is greyed out and I can't hit it.
What I want to do is just forget the entire process at this point and scrap the upgrade until I have time to figure out what is going on. Is there a way to abort at this point?
    Thanks for any help!

    Your welcome!
You should always have and keep an up to date backup.
Sounds like you need something a little stronger than Disk Utility. At this point I have no way of knowing if Disk Warrior can or will help.
    Depends..!
If you do format and install, then Yes it will.
If you reinstall OS X, then No it will not.
Problem is that according to the Disk Utility message, I don't think that you will be able to install either 10.6 or 10.8.
Those are very good questions. The only bad questions are the ones you have to ask yourself.
