TC set up when not connected to internet/using as a router

Hi,
I bought a TC and can't seem to get it to back up at a reasonable speed with an ethernet cable attached to my MBP. I have 180GB to back up, I've been getting 1GB in 3 hours, which is ridiculous, so something must be wrong. My suspicion is it's doing it wirelessly.
It's not set up as a router because I'm staying with friends and I can't seem to see in the instructions how to set it up to transfer the data by cable. Can anyone suggest how to move forward, I'm just feeling frustrated with it, and I can't have it tied to a desk for 540 days to do a first back up.
Anyone's assistance would be really appreciated - with the sparks out the back when I first plugged it in - I'm wondering whether I should just send it back... this has not been plug and play so far, but appreciate it not being connected to the net/acting as a router might be complicating things a bit.
Thanks
Ben

Hello benho. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

You did power all your networking equipment off before making any connections ... right?
You can configure the Time Capsule (TC) as either a stand-alone router or to join an existing wireless network in order to perform backups.
If your Mac has AirPort at the top of the network connections list, it will attempt to connect wirelessly first, and then, move down the list to the next networking option. If you want to "force" your computer to try Ethernet first, just move this option to the top of the list.

  • MBP upgraded to Yosemite and now will not connect to Internet using a Cisco router

I Upgraded my MBP mid 2010 to Yosemite and now it will not connect to Internet using a system that involves typing in my user name and password in an auto pop up window provided by Cisco security systems. Before, using Mavericks, it worked perfectly: boot up MBP and the Cisco pop up auto loaded. Typed it my password and hey presto, connected to Internet. Now, zilch. There is nothing wrong with the Cisco cos my iPad connects ok, as do both my iPhone's.
the problem is with Yosemite therefore. Please help. I tried all the usual diags, etc to no avail.

Sounds like there could be some kind of compatibility issue between ICS and this Bluetooth device of yours. Is there any compatibility info from the manufacturer about which Android versions that's being supported?

  • Voice  control when not connected to internet

Is it possible to use voice control with a touch 5 when not connected to internet?  when I hold down the home button or the mic on earpod remote all I get is a message that siri is not available and am instructed to connect internet.  Does voice control (for music for example)  not exist unless I have internet and this bloody accursed siri on?

Thanks I had already seen that but as I said I kept getting the message about Sire not being available.  I talked to AppleCare and the secret, if anyone else has the problem,  is you must disable Siri in settings before using the voice control.
    Thanks for your time.

  • How do you Sync Cals and Contacts when not connected to internet?

I Often take my macbook along with me to work. I cannot connect to the internet there. MacBook is set to use MobileMe. When I sync my iPhone 3G with my MB it wont sync updates I made on the laptop. When I go into the info tab in iTunes it states it will update by air. Is there a way to manually update these items when not connected to the internet?

I sync two iPhones and an iPad with one iTunes library on the same computer and each device has different content. Each device has its own sync preferences with iTunes. You can transfer the same music and apps to each device or different music and apps.
Are you sharing the same Apple ID or iTunes account?

  • Apple TV slow when not connected to internet

I have just purchased an apple TV for watching gopro hd videos while we are fishing.  The gopro videos play load and play almost instantly while at home and I have a access point for my router but when I bring the system to the camp (out in the middle of nowhere, does not have internet hookup) the system becomes very slow to load videos.  At home If i disconnect my access point from the router and try to set it up I get the same problem, Apple TV will see the router and stream it from the computer but unless the Apple TV component is receiveing from a router that is connected to the internet the connection becomes very slow.  Any suggestions.  The router is brand new top of the line and I have just updated all of my software.  This probem only happens when the routeer is broadcasting but not connected to the internet?
    thanks

Thanks for the response. I tried several different ActiveX applications like you suggested including: Microsoft Word 12.0 Objects Library Version 2.4,  Microsoft Internet Controls Version 1.1 Internet Explorer IWebBroswerApp, Microsoft Outlook 11.0 Object Library Version 9.2 Application, etc. The only one I could get to exhibit the same behavior as the Excel app was Microsoft Visio 11.0 Type Library Versionn 4.b, and thats because Visio itself opens when I run the Automation Open then Close.
I then tried opening both Excel and Visio seperately by double clicking their link instead of using LabVIEW and ActiveX with the changed TCP/IP settings , and the same behavior was shown; occassinally it would take about 12 sec to open. So it must not be an ActiveX issue but something with Excel and Visio and my computer (since you didn't see the same behavior on yours). I guess I'll have to go searching the web for an answer...
For completeness and to answer your questions, the environment does not have an internet connection (see first post, network created by a computer with a crossover cable to a VXI-11 instrument). Using Windows XP and Office 2003

  • Excel ActiveX slow when not connected to internet

    Using LabVIEW 8.5
I hope someone has some insight into this problem because I'm lost. I have a program that communicates with a VXI instrument using a direct connection (crossover cable). I have a subVI in the program that takes data already in the program and writes it to an exisitng Excel workbook using ActiveX. When I run this subVI by itself when I have internet access (DHCP enabled), the subVI takes <2 sec to complete. However, when I am conencted to the instrument using a crossover cable, the subVI occassionally (about 1 out of 3 runs) takes >13 sec to complete. As a test, I connected back to my normal network but kept the manual TCP/IP settings (so Local Area Connection shows a network connection but I can't access the internet). I got the same result, with the subVI taking >13 sec to complete at time. Can anyone explain this behavior? Any remedies? I assume Excel or ActiveX is trying to access the internet, but that doesn't make a lot of sense.
Perhaps a related issue is when I don't have internet conection LabVIEW has problems updating the Block Diagram (i.e. a right click on a wire takes several seconds to bring up the shortcut menu and causes LabVIEW to freeze). Any rememdy for this? I don't know if it is completely related to the issue above, because I created an installer of the subVI and it still exhibits the same behavior (unless maybe its a LabVIEW Run TIme issue?)
I've attached the necessary VI's. To test you'll need to create some Excel workbook and then change the File Path control in the subVI. Also change your TCP/IP settings to something random (I use 192.168.0.2, sub 255.255.255.0, gtwy 192.168.1.1, dns 192.168.1.2, alt dns 192.168.1.3). Any suggestions welcome, or even verification of the behavior I've described.
    Thanks
    Michael

  • Continuous "36888 Schannel Errors" in System Event Log when NOT connected to Internet

We are hoping someone will be able to assist with us this very strange issue please ?
We are using Windows 8.1 x64 Enterprise with Office 2013 and the latest Symantec Endpoint Proctecion v12.1.5 installed. They are managed using SCCM2012 in a large AD domain environment
When our workstations are NOT connected to the internet (only local intranet) the following errors appear in SYSTEM event log almost continuously (several times a minute).
    Event ID:36888  User: SYSTEM  OpCode:Info  Level:Error  Source:SChannel
"A fatal alert was generated and sent to the remote endpoint. This may result in termination of the connection. The TLS protocol defined fatal error code is 70. The Windows Schannel error state is 11."
The process associated with these events is "Local Security Authority Process"
When an internet connection is enabled for these machines these 36888 errors will suddenly stop !.
An event "Error 36887 "A fatal alert was received from the remote endpoint. The TLS protocol defined fatal alert code is 40." Is also occurring on these machines but only occasionally.
As a result, We suspect there must be a process continuously attempting to connect to an internet service and failing ?.
    Some of the things we have tried so far;
    - We have disabled all non-essential services (e.g. Windows Store Service) one by one but this didn't fix.
    - We have tried disabling Tile updates on Start
    - We have tried a bunch of different Group Policy settings to disable different combinations of TLS/SSL in IE config.
    - We have searched the internet forums and tried some suggested fixes but this combination of error state and error code seems unique ?.
It doesn't happen on our Windows 7 x64 workstations that have much same apps & configuration.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated !
    Thanks.

    Hi Makes006,
This Event ID 36888 occurs if a user tries to access a web site using HTTP but specifies an SSL port in the URL.
We can try clean boot to troubleshoot whether this issue is caused by a third party program .
How to perform a clean boot in Windows

If there is no sensible impacts on operating the machines ,we can try to disable this log by modify the following registry key value to 0.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\EventLogging

  • Detect other air applications (when not connected to internet)

    Hi,
we have a req to provide a link within our air app, click on it and the app should detect if another air app (from same publisher) is installed on user's machine. If installed launch it if not install it.
I used air browser api, it works fine. But only when the user is connected to internet, since the air.swf needs to be downloaded from adobe.
Is there a way to detect other air apps in offline mode ? (I tried copying air.swf to local, but doens't work due to security issues)
Anyone with thoughts on how to achieve this in offline mode ?
    Thanks,
    Brijesh

    Hi Brijesh,
As you've seen, hosting the air.swf locally (or anywhere besides airdownload.adobe.com) isn't supported or allowed.  I've seen this request come up a couple of times now, if this functionality is important I'd like to recommend adding a feature request on our ideas.adobe.com site.
I haven't tried this so I'm really not sure if it would work, but if your app was installed natively and you knew the location of the installed app, could you create a file object and check to see if the file existed?  If it did, try launching with openWithDefaultApplication().  If not, download the installer to a temp location, then launch the installer with openWithDefaultApplication()?   Basically duplicating what you need from the air.swf in your actionscript code.

  • TS2972 home sharing when not connected to internet

my old computer will not connect to the internet and it has all my songs on it.  can i still do home sharing?

I do not believe you can based on Apple Technical Support article TS2972.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
In Section 4 under the Resolution, it states:
Home Sharing requires a home network with an active Internet connection. All the devices you want to use with Home Sharing need to be connected to your home network.
