TC to receive internet from Mac !

My Mac Mini is connected to the Internet through USB SIM Card router.
How can I configre the TC AirPort to do the following:
1) The TC to receive Internet via an Ethernet Cable from the Mac Mini?
2) Backup my Mac Mini via Ethernet Cable on the TC?
3) The TC to provide Internet Connection via an Ethernet Cable to my DVR?
Nothing seems to work as I keep getting all types of errors that I had to reset my TC to factory settings and delete my backups
I'd be very grateful if one can guide me through to accomplish all the above.
Thank you all in advance.
PS I don't have the latest vertical TC, I have the previous model.

what OS are you running on the Mac Mini??
Did your 1. work??
I would say that is the key to this. ICS for mac OSX will perhaps depend a bit on the version.
Just google for it.. but be warned it is not 100% and it fails fairly often.
http://osxdaily.com/2012/01/05/enable-internet-sharing-mac-os-x/
Once you actually get ICS (internet connection sharing) working on the Mac then you set up the TC in bridge mode.. remember the mini is now the main router of the network and the TC will be a dumb AP, switch and backup disk.
The TC should be able to connect to the DVR.. but it is the mini that does the routing.
It is hugely easier, better, superior, without doubt buy a proper wireless router. Do not use your mac as a router. It might do for the occasional desperate need but never use it for dedicated use that a $50 box can manage as it was designed to do.
You can then plug the TC into the computer and use it for backup or whatever.. wireless routers seldom come with ethernet but if you can find one then buy it.
You can also btw buy a router with USB and get a third party firmware to support it.. sometimes.
Anything but use the Mac.

  • How to share internet from mac to windows

Any one helps me how to share internet from mac to windows? I have created an internet sharing on macbook, a Mac can connect to internet, but windows pc can't connect with this sharing. I don't know why?

I am not a Windows guru. However, in XP there is a Wireless Network icon at the lower right side. Click on that, select the network you want to join, insert the password and that's it. Any issues speak to a Windows guru.

  • Cannot receive mail from .Mac account on port 143

I use my laptop at work. I used to have a 12" Powerbook G4 running OS X 10.4.3. I had no problem receiving mail from my .Mac account. Now, and all of a sudden, I can no longer receive my .Mac mail using the Mail app. The error I get is:
The server "mail.mac.com" refused to allow a connection on port 143.
I called AppleCare about this issue last night and they told me to perform the following steps:
    1. Choose .Mac in System Preferences and delete my username and password from the Account tab.
    2. Move com.apple.mail.plist and the Mail folder from my ~/Library folder to the desktop.
    3. Restart the Mail app and re-import the Mail folder from the desktop. I was told not to directly copy the Mail folder from the desktop into the ~/Library folder.
    4. Go back into .Mac in System Preferences and re-enter my account information.
According to AppleCare, things should now work. But there's a little problem with this "solution." I spoke with my network admin and he told me that incoming traffic on port 143 is blocked. That being the case, I fail to see how any of the above steps will solve my problem. It seems nothing more than an issue of trying to get my network admin to open port 143 and he seems reluctant to do that.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Richard

I've solved this problem. Well, actually, I didn't do anything other than:
    1) Rebooting my computer, then...
    2) Following the instructions at the top of the following thread to re-create my email accounts (I had two):
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1598309#1598309
Not sure what this fixed, and how I got into this issue in the first place.
I had four or five days worth of email to come in... it took...
    ...a...
    ...long...
    ...time...
But its looking like its working.
A few things I tried, and although they didn't have an immediate effect to fix the connection refused problem, they might have kicked something to start something working again:
    1) Created a new 'test' user on the system, restarted, logged in as that user, and started Mail.app setting it up with .Mac settings (it was after this everything worked)
    2) Changed SSL ports in the accounts settings (no difference)
    3) Turned firewall on and off (no difference)
    4) Attempted to use Thunderbird to read .Mac email as IMAP mailbox (didn't work)
Hope this rather obvious help helps anyone else

  • Cannot go to the Internet from Mac OSX, and Fedora Core 5

All Windows users (XP, 2000, Vista Beta) can connect to the Internet no problem on WRT54G with Firmware v4.20.6 (may 26, 2005). But odd enough, though getting the right DHCP assigned IP addresses and DNS server address, MacBook Pro (OS 10.4.1) and Fedora Core 5 cannot go to the internet at all using Safari and firefox browsers: the message keeps saying that your computer is not connected to the internet. Tested with BOTH wired and wireless connections, no luck to the internet. So, it's not about the wireless settings and setup. It doesn't work even if I directly connect the CAT5 cable to the router port.
Tested at wireless hotspots, at work where we have Cisco access points, and at a friend's place where there is netgear wireless router, MacBookPro is just working fine connected to the internet.
Any suggestions? Linksys doesn't support Mac and Linux PCs at all?

Thank you very much All (devildance, and Frank).
Seems like it is working fine now...
I reset the router as factory default, and reconfig the wireless setting(disable broadcasting SSID, configure TKIP PSK, and MAC filtering). Directly connected CAT5 cable from the router to my MacBookPro Windows XP. Working fine. Switched to Mac OSX, working fine. But, when I disconnected the LAN, and attempted to connect wireless, I couldn't go to the Internet using Safari and Firefox: keeps saying that your computer is not connected to the Internet.
Still could ping to 4.2.2.2 and 207.232.22.25, but getting errors "could not resolve the host name" when I pinged with the hostname bearshare.com.
Connected the wired CAT5. Working fine. Unplugged and used the wireless, could not get to the internet.
Checked the NICs settings on both LAN ethernet and wireless airport. All seems the same and correct: IP address, subnetmask and gateway address, and NO DNS entry. The same settings, but works on LAN cat5, and not works with wireless. So, for the sake of it, just manually added the DNS server IP addresses and domain names on wireless NIC. And Wala...it is working fine with wireless. Still strange the fact that Ethernet LAN NIC still doesn't have any DNS entries and working fine, but required DNS entries on wireless NIC.
For Fedora Core, could ping and resolve names without changing any settings. But when going to the Internet, got the error saying "comcast doesn't support this platform/OS" and another error "Welcome to Comcast High speed Internet....registration currently unavailable" when attempting to go any websites. Notieced that we pinging cnn.com, bearshare.com, or any websites, got ping reply from the same IP address which appears to be one of the comcast DNS server IP, 68.87.64.132.
So, I think it is a comcast issue not supporting Linux or something else which I would need to call to Comcast about...
But, thanks...looks like I can go to the Internet on Mac OSX, and Fedora core now with Linksys WRT54G. Thanks so much guys for all the suggestions....

  • Can't share Internet from Mac to AirPort Extreme via Thunderbolt Ethernet

    Hey there!
I'm trying to essentially use a 2013 AirPort Extreme as an AP for the network. It's connected via WAN to a Mac via a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter.
I'm having a hard time telling OS X (10.10)/ OS X Server that I want it to take the Internet from "iPhone USB" and share it with "Thunderbolt Ethernet". With or without OS X Server's DHCP/DNS "help". I've been experiencing issues with Internet Sharing for years on OS X, so the fact that I'm having an issue today is no surprise, I'm just hoping someone out there has a solution.
If I go back to Internet Sharing in System Preferences, the "share Internet connection from" combo box is blank, rather than showing "iPhone USB".
Also, I'm unsure as to whether I should be using OS X Server... I know it's not necessary for simple Internet connection sharing, but I'd like to use DHCP and DNS services with this setup at least eventually.... Obviously just getting Internet to the AirPort is first-priority.
    Any ideas?

    Hello Kevin,
Let me try to get this straight, it seems like you want to bridge the fee-based wifi network and your home wireless network using your MB.
I don't know if you have done the following steps already on your MB:
    1) Choose Apple > System Preferences, and then click Sharing.
    2) Select Internet Sharing.
    3) Choose a network service from the “Share your connection from” pop-up menu, AirPort in your case.
    4) Select a networking service to share your Internet connection from the “To computers using” list, ethernet in your case.
Sorry, yes indeed it is straight from Mac Help titled "Sharing your Internet connection." and it sounds like you have done the sharing part already. You wrote about something wrong with your MB. It might be helpful to write what is wrong with your MB, AirPort Extreme, or your "other computers." Preciseness can definably help us help you.
    May you solve the problem.

  • Setting Internet from .mac to new address

Should be easy. Anybody know how to change pop up email? You know, if your on a website and you click on a tab to email the company directly. When I do this, the computer automatically opens .mac, which I am not a memeber of. I would like to change this to setting to open my Internet accout. Searched through Safari preferences and Network Settings, to no avail..

    You're welcome.
If I am understanding you correctly, it is not possible to link my Comcast email through Safari, because it is a web address.
Correct if you are accessing the email account thru webmail only using Safari or another browser and this is the same with Windows also.
You don't use an email client such as the Mail.app to access your Comcast email account and if so, why?
You can try selecting AOL as the default email reader which is done via the Mail.app at Mail > Preferences > General but you can also access an AOL email account with the Mail.app or another email client which I believe will be easier in this situation.

  • Sharing Mobile Internet from Mac to iPhone via WiFi

    I am using a Macbook Pro, OS X 10.9.3.
I am using the internet via a mobile USB stick that I bought today. The set-up worked perfect and I have no problem accessing the internet on my mac! Earlier today I chose to share the connection so I could use my iPhone & iPad. I then went away for 20 min, and when I came back I couldn't share my internet connection anymore.
I've tried closing and opening the internet, choosing to share my connection via bluetooth, but nothing helps. I've set it to share the connection via HUAWEI Mobile (which is the name of the USB) and to computers using WiFi. The exact same settings I used before, when it worked. And now it doesn't
I've tried using the "create network option", but when I choose to join the network on my iPhone it says that "the computer isn't connected to the internet" -even though I am!
What happens when I try to share my connection: The "shared connection symbol" (arrow in the wifi symbol) shortly flashes up, but then it seems to be searching for another wifi connection, doesn't find it (the reason I bought mobile internet: There is no wifi here) and then the symbol is just light grey (= no wifi).

    No.

  • Share Internet from Mac thru Ethernet to apple tv

Since the apple tv has no browser I can't login to the secure network at a condo.  Best answer that makes sense is to use my laptop to connect thru wifi then use Ethernet to give Internet to the apple tv.  I can't find the share on the apple laptop. Does any one know where the needle in the haystack to allow the share?

    I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) and using iphone6 with IOS 8.1
    1) I am on the same wifi and subnet
    2) signed in on the same Apple ID both on Mac, Mac FaceTime, iphon6 and iphone6 FaceTime
    3) enabled Cellular calls on iPhone and from mac
    4) Handoff turned on, on both devices
    5) Restarted everything more than twice
    6) firewall allows connections
But STILL CANT MAKE CALLS or RECEIVE CALLS FROM MAC..... its says "iPhone Not Available, Your iPhone and Mac must be on the same Wi-Fi network"
    Anyone knows whats going on???

Call your carrier, my daughter's phone stopped working one Saturday night and it turned out our AT&T account had been hacked by someone somewhere  in the US at a Walmart.  They bought a new phone, upgrading from her phone knocking out her number and sim card.  AT&T told her to go to phone store Sunday morning and they gave her new phone.  We followed through with the theft report.  About a weel later the Visa we pay the phone bill with was attempted to be used at a phone store in Sacremento.
Anyway, your carrier will restore service if it nots working for any reason.

  • Not receiving texts from iPhone contacts when I'm not connected to wifi or cell data. I can't send and receive regular SMS texts with non iMessage users but iMessage users message are not being converted to text when I don't have internet connect

I can send and receive to any non iPhone user. I can send a message as a text to an iPhone user but if I'm not connected to cellular data or wifi I do not receive messages from iPhone contacts. From what I understand these message should automatically send to me as texts instead of iMessages but since the update it's not functioning properly. Please help. I've tried turning iMessage off and I still don't receive the messages until after I reconnect to wifi.

I have the same problem! Before the upgrade, if I wasn't connected to the internet, any messages sent to me from an iphone would convert automatically to a text message. I have payg tarriff, so I turn cell data off, as it costs too much to use it. I have wifi at home and work, but if I'm out and about, I don't receive texts from iphone users until I'm on wifi. I get them ok from non iphone users. There was never any problem until ios7

You are attempting to download the picture to your computer not uploading photo to the website if I am understanding you correctly.
To change the download direction, you must do so through your browser's Preferences.  If you are using Safari, hopefully, someone who uses Safari will help you and/or post over in their forums.  I do not use Safari.
