TC Won't Eject After Backup

My TC has always performed flawlessly. Recently I have noticed the backup desktop image does not eject after the backup is complete. I have to manually eject it under Finder. Any thoughts on this?

There is nothing wrong with this. Mine does the same thing occasionally.

  • Automatically tape eject after backup

    Hi Experts!
I'm currently evaluating Oracle Secure Backup (not the Express version) as a replacement for Legato Networker, for backup of our existing 10gr2 Oracle database.
My Question is: Is it possible to have the tape automatically become ejected after Database Backup using RMAN, so that the operator can change the tape?
At the moment we are using a jukebox which handles load/unload for us, unfortunately the hardware is quite old, and we can't swap our LTO-2 drives for newer ones. So we plan to buy just a new LTO-4 tape drive, and to control the tape drive directly through the Oracle Secure Backup solution.
Any hint would be much appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Joachim

What version of OSB are you using?
Could you clarify your tape device scenario? It seems like you have a library that can swap tapes but then refer to another drive. Do you need tapes actually ejected or just auto-swap? Do you want to unload tapes at end of every backup whether or not tape is full or only when tape is full?

  • Reasons for Time Capsule not ejecting after backup?

Running 2010 17" MBP, 8GB, upgraded to Lion.
After backups, the TC drive stopped auto ejecting sometime last night.  I can eject it manually, and as far as I can tell backups are still occurring normally.
After doing some searching I tried using the privacy settings to prevent Spotlight from indexing the TC data folder where the backup sparsebundles go, and rebooting.  Didn't help.
Anyone have some ideas on what might be causing this, and what I can do to correct it?
    Thanks in advance!

Okay. I guess any mysterious occurrance is potentially going to have an equally mysterious resolution. It just started ejecting the TC drive normally after backups. I've done nothing, changed nothing--it just started working again.
I think I'll have a drink now.  Thanks anyway!

  • The disk won't eject after Time Machine backup

Each time im doing a time machine backup, the external drive does not eject, the icon becomes pale, but remains on the desktop. But when I did not just make a backup I can eject it normaly.
My disc contains two partitions, one with the backups. When my problem occurs the first partition is ejected but not the Time Machine one.
I tried to reformat the partition but the problem persists.
My hard drive is a GDrive mobile usb 1 TO purchased at the apple store.
    Did someone has a solution?
    Thank you !
PS; sorry for my bad english

Actually i found a potential solution, in majority of time it solved my problem, but some times (less frequently then before) it doesn't work And the disk still not eject. In the timemachine Settings, did the principal switch button is on "yes" or "no" ?
I was backing up manually, and I had put the switch to NO, and i think that was what cause the problem... When I Switched to YES, my disk ejected correctly for 95 % of time.
Try to turn this switch ON , if she is OFF.
I dont think that the problem is the age of the drive, mine is a 2014 one and i had this problem too.

  • ML dvd won't eject after use

This issue has been happening ever since I upgraded to ML.
I insert a DVD and after I use the drive for any purpose then try to eject the disc it will not eject unless I reboot the machine. I have tried everyway there is to eject and the OS responds as if it did but it doesn't eject. I can't remount it either. The other thing to note is when this has happend Disc Utilitiy won't run at all.
I am on the latest ML version.
    Thank you!

This didn't help. My issue is I can't eject the DVD after it's use without rebooting so I am not sure what repairing volumes would do for that. I did try it thought on every volume but it operates the same.

    Gang,
OS 10.6.8. Nothing has changed with this set-up and about 3 weeks ago I noticed that my TimeMachine Icon no longer ejects when the backup is complete. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

  • Macbook 2009 won't eject disk

My Macbook won't eject my CD.  I've managed to get it in, but it won't eject, after trying pressing the eject button, holding it down while the computer restarts and the command prompt in Terminal.
Can any one help me please?

It's likely you'll have to get physical. This works but requires a few tries.
Take two playing cards. You'll use these as tweezers essentially. Use fairly stiff high quality ones.
Fish around gently and put one on top of the disk and one on the bottom of the disk.
Once in place keep sweeping in and pulling out as you hit the eject button trying to grab (with friction and sweeping motion) and pull it out. Don't fully remove the cards but keep sweeping in and out. It works on MacBooks and slot loading iMacs.
This is assuming your macbook still makes the eject sound like it's trying to push something out. I've gotten disks out that have had 2 disks stuck in as well as stuck disks from faulty drives.
IVe also also used business cards but playing cards work best.

  • IPod stops syncing after a while, won't eject and then crashes iTunes

Whenever I try to update my iPod Classic 80GB, after 1000 songs or so the iPod stops syncing (gets stuck on a song). Then the iPod won't eject, even when dragged into trash.
Then, when trying to eject iPod or quit iTunes, iTunes crashes and has to be force quitted with iPod cable removed.
When I check my iPod it says there is no music/photos etc on it.
I have reinstalled the latest iTunes and restored my iPod with the latest version, my OS software is all up to date too.

Actually at 1200ish songs the iPod hard drive starts making some severe clicking/clanking noises. I'm guessing it means the hard drive is screwed since it's the same symptoms as my last iPod
Why does this happen? Both my iPods were about 2 years old when the hdd's started clicking, surely hdd's last for more than two years?

  • My 4th gen ipod won't backup after it froze during a software update to 4.3.5. I had to cancel the backup at the start of the update and now it won't let me backup to my computer, freezes during backup or says my backup is corrupted.

I pressed 'X' during a backup after it froze during an update to software 4.3.5 and now it won't let me backup on my computer. Does anyone have any ideas? It either freezes during backup or says my 'backup is corrupted' or 'I cannot backup on my computer'. I have had to abort quite a few attempted backups since the initial problem, which I think has made it worse. I have already tried restoring my ipod, deleting the aborted backup from my preferences/devices in itunes and deleting it from my user/appdata/etc on my PC hard drive. Any ideas what to try next?

After hours of frustration I eventually decided to restore. I lost my apps, but i didn't have many and was able to reinstall them for free. During the restore it updated my ipod to the latest software 4.3.5, which i think may have caused the initial problem, but the backup issue remains. Sometimes it stops me from syncing and other times it allows me to skip the backup, but still says that i can't backup on my computer. I'm worried that it has done something to my computer as it took me six hours to do a Bullguard scan, which only normally takes about an hour. The scan didn't come up with any viruses, but it stalled at system32 for ages. The only other thing that i can think of is that a demo CD I uploaded may have caused a problem. iTunes couldn't find a track listing for it but gave me a few different options. i thought I had to choose one to continue, so did that then changed the track details to the correct tracks. I'm now worried that may have introduced an issue or caused a glitch in iTunes. How paranoid am I sounding?

  • After backup, TM cannot eject itself automatically, and then both my mac and TM get high temperature. why is that, I had the same problem twice.

after backup, TM cannot eject itself automatically, and then both my mac and TM get high temperature. why is that, I had the same problem twice. I re-start my mac, it doesn't work at tall, still the same problem.

Are you saying, right now that the TM refuses to work even after a re-boot?
Is the light solid green at least?

  • MacBook won't eject disk during multi-disk installs, or after an install

Oy, will the problems never stop?
I have a dual-core MB 2.66 machine. I just put a fresh 500 gig drive and installed a retail copy of Snow Leopard. That seemed to go fine. Now I'm installing apps. And what's cropped up is that the machine refuses to eject disks after the install is complete.
I had to run the Adobe CS5 install twice because of this problem; luckily it ejected disks as it was supposed to the second time around. However, with iLife, iWork, Quicken, etc., after the install was done the disk refused to eject, and I had to hard-quit and eject the disk during next startup. And now Final Cut Pro is acting the same way...I use the install disk, then put Audio Content 1 disk in...it churns for two hours adding those files, then asks for Audio Content disk 2...but WON'T eject Disk 1!
I'm at my wits end. I never had these problems with Tiger...

If I understand you correctly, you have two disks with Tiger and you installed a new disk on which you install Snow Leopard & apps.
Personally I would not have done this project that way. I would have used CCC or SuperDuper to clone one of the Tiger disks on to the new disk and then test to be sure the disk is working correctly first. A clone is a bootable copy of a system disk that contains everything from where the device used to make it.
Then and then I would install Snow Leopard. After installing Snow Leopard, you could use Setup Manager to copy over your data from the Tiger disk.
With the problemas you are currently having it might be easier to start over this way.

I have managed to get into my computer through the OS X install disk but now my wi fi hardware is gone. Ie no airport.
When I try to re install the airport extreme wi fi base station software  it tells me it can't be installed as this version of Mac OS X (Lion) on is volume is not supported.
Not even an Ethernet cable gets me on line. In system preferences when I do a network diagnostic all I get is the spinning disk. Again, any ideas how to get around this?

  • I purhased an apple usb cd/dvd and I have a cd disk that won't eject even after going into controls and selecting disk eject any ideas how I can take of the issue?

I have a cd disk stuck in my USB super drive, it won't eject even after going to control and selecting eject disk

    Hi BCservant,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that it can be concerning when you cannot eject a disk from your external drive. There are a few troubleshooting steps that I would recommend to help you get this situation resolved. Please use the attached article for troubleshooting information.
Get help with the slot-loading SuperDrive on your Mac computer - Apple Support
Doesn't eject discs or discs eject slowly
If the drive ejects discs slowly or appears to be struggling, insert and eject a single disc several times. Check the disc to see if it has a label or other material stuck to the disc that increases the thickness. Remove the label if possible.
If the disc will not eject, try pressing the eject key on the keyboard. Some older keyboards may use the F12 key to eject discs.
If the disc will not eject, try dragging the disc icon to the trash.
If the disc will still not eject, try holding down the trackpad or mouse button after restarting the computer. The Superdrive should attempt to eject the disc.
If the disc continues not to eject, reset the System Management Controller (SMC) and try steps 1-4 again.
If the disc still does not eject, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional assistance.
    Best regards,
    Joe

  • Windows 8.1 Pro laptop won't sleep after unattended WSE2012 backup session

    Hello,
I have a new Windows 8.1 Laptop, a Puget Computer V560i laptop using a Clevo W350STQ motherboard.  The laptop is part of a Windows Server Essentials 2012 domain.  I have the latest BIOS and drivers installed, including graphics drivers.  Windows
8.1 Pro was installed native (not an upgrade).
The WSE2012 server wakes the sleeping laptop every night between 4 and 5 AM to perform a client backup.  This works fine.  The problem is that the laptop does not go back to sleep.
The laptop is normally connected to power and sleeps every night---so the server can wake it up.  The laptop is set to go to sleep in 30 minutes via Control Panel | Power Options | Balanced | Plugged In.
If I test the laptop during a normal session and don't interact with it, the laptop goes to sleep in 30 minutes fine.  Asking the laptop to sleep manually also always works fine.
Note that other client machines on the domain go back to sleep after backup.
I exposed the "System unattended sleep timeout" setting by updating the registry.  This timer is set to 2 minutes for ac and dc, the default (as expected).
After a WSE2012 backup via WOL, the laptop does not go back to sleep.  I can always manually put the laptop to sleep.  This morning, at 9 AM I tried various things:
From cmd (admin), tried powercfg -requests to see if anything was blocking sleep. Nothing was blocking.  I expected this given I can manually put the laptop to sleep.
Examined the event log to see if any events indicated blocked sleep.  No events present.
Tried to see if the system would go back to sleep on it's own after manual user intervention.  It would not sleep this way.
Manually slept the system, woke it, and then tried to see if the system would go back to sleep on it's own.  It would not.
Rebooted the system and then tried to see if the system would go back to sleep on it's own.  It slept this time.
So, my working theory is that a WOL session somehow blocks unattended sleep until the next reboot.
For a while, if the laptop had not gone to sleep on it's own since the last reboot, it would sleep after the server backup.  If the laptop had gone to sleep at least once on it's own since the last reboot, it would not sleep after server backup.
This behavior has changed---the laptop now never goes back to sleep after server backup.  It will go to sleep on it's own during a normal user session.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the laptop to go back to sleep after an unattended server backup session?
    Thanks.
