TCP vs IPC  for  DBLINK

Good Morning to all ;
MAY i know some details about TCP vs IPC connectivity (for DB LINK).
My Questions are ,
When we use TCP connectivity ? and
when we use ICP connectivity ?
IS this right ?
IPC connection does require listener ..

"A session is a logical entity in the database instance memory that represents the state of a current user login to a database. For example, when a user is authenticated by the database with a password, a session is established for this user. A session lasts from the time the user is authenticated by the database until the time the user disconnects or exits the database application."

  • TCP/IP settings for airport card

ok, first off...please take it easy on me...i'm a windows guy but am close to purchasing a mac for my girlfriend and also have an iPhone so please understand that i love macs, just don't know too much about them..yet
i have a need to set TCP/IP settings for an airport card when the mac connects to a specific SSID (Peanut Gang). the problem is due to the fact that when macs connect to a linksys WRE54G wireless repeater, they do not obtain the TCP/IP info. you can go into system prefs -> network and renew the lease and it obtains the info but i've been asked to "automate" this process.
ok, i'm not sure if it's possible but when i saw the "automator" section here i thought i would ask. i know how i could do it through scripting on a windows machine but i digress, ha!
    thanks

You may want to ask this over in the "Networking" group.
Also clarify whether you're having these issues with a mac you have, or just what.
Might want to specify what kind of mac is having this problem, too.
And be ready to explain just what you're asking when you say:"need to set TCP/IP settings for an airport card when the mac connects to a specific SSID"

  • Missing TCP/IP settings for iPhone tethering (Bluetooth and USB)

Is it just me or Apple has completely disabled the TCP/IP settings for BT and USB connections for iPhone tethering (and possibly any other mobile devices)?
I can now only set the IP addresses and DNS server. No Proxies or WINS settings tabs.
I have also noticed that if you setup a USB tethering connection in Leopard and upgrade to Snow Leopard, the settings are still available, but NOT if you make a clean install of Snow Leopard and create a new iPhone USB tethering connection.
I always use a SOCKS5 when I'm using my tethering connection for security and better/faster connection with my manual proxy server setup. I find the new "options" in SL very limited, not only for my usage.

I got this to work again (in fact, I'm tethered right now
Here are the steps I followed:
    1) Upgraded to iTunes 9
    2) Upgraded iPhone to OS 3.1
    3) Removed device from Bluetooth Devices list on my MBP
    4) Removed Bluetooth PAN from Network preferences
    5) Restarted iPhone and MBP
    6) Set-up iPhone as a Bluetooth Device on MBP
    7) Enabled tethering on iPhone
    8) Connected to iPhone network via the Bluetooth icon on my MBP menu bar
    9) Verified that the blue "Internet Tethering" bar was on the iPhone
    10) Manually added Bluetooth PAN to my MBP network preferences (connect show as yellow, "IP cannot be assigned" message)
    11) Opened the Advanced pane and clicked the "Renew DHCP Lease" button
    12) IP was assigned!
I'm not sure if the first two steps contributed to the solution or not, but these are the steps that worked for me.
    Good luck to you all...

  • Problems installing eLink TCP 3.1 for Tuxedo

HiI'm trieing to install eLink TCP 3.1 for Tuxedo on an NT-server.I have Tuxedo 6.5 installed already and it's working. When I try to install eLink it just says that I have to have Tuxedo 6.5 (or 6.4 or WLS) installed before I install eLink. But I do ??? How do I get around thisproblem ?Regards,Kirsi

    Hi Kirsi,
Please check the installation directory where Tuxedo was installed. If you
took the default on NT, it would be installed in something like "c:\Program
Files\tuxedo". Unfortunately the space between Program and Files causes a
problem with other products correctly locating the Tuxedo installation. If
you reinstall Tuxedo into a directory such as c:\tux65 everything should be
    fine.
    Good luck.

  • Any alternative communication for dblink a 9iR2 and a 10gR2 on same unix?

I want to access tables of a 9iR2 with a 10gR2 sql function(ora_hash). is there any better alternative for dblink access in performance perspective?
or is there any tricks to create the dblink for two instances on the same unix?
    thank you.

At what point are you going to to do the validation?after complete sync of databases we were given 2 hours of downtime for validation, parallel to some configuration on application servers and some user acceptance tests Justin.
If the hash doesn't match, what are you going to do? You can't go back to the old system without losing transactions made on the new system. And you can't easily figure out which rows don't match (and why) from a single hash value.we will be doing MINUS ALL over dblink to see the details of the difference, hashing is like a boolean flag, so we will be only interested for the ones that have a false flag with hashing.
what is the back-out plan? we are not letting go the platform A databases until everything is validated successfully. they will be opened restricted and read-only. another important point is when there is a need of going back after some hours or days on the platform B, for this purposes we will be again capturing the changes on the target databases in order to apply them back to the source databases in any unexpected case may occur after some time we opened the customer channels.
Do you really need a hash that combines every row? Could you not pick a reasonable and representative sample of rows to verify that the changes came across (i.e. by forcing updates to Dummy Customer A-Z records at various "interesting" points during the transition and verifying that the changes come over)?ora_hash is fast, it runs on SQL engine, we can generate count and hash values within an hour for over 10 TB of data with our hardware for now. So we didn't need sampling yet.
Obviously, you can do the validation in the lower environments because you don't have to run 24x7 there. Is that level of validation not sufficient? If something works in dev, test, and staging, do you really need to do the full validation in production?as always dev. and test environments are not %100 representative for a production, we are doing tests but I am nearly sure that we will see new things when we go for production :)

  • Does Anyone Know the Standard TCP Port number for "itpc" Protocol?

    Hello,
I am trying to determine if the TCP port number for “itpc://” protocols is 3689 (iTunes Music Sharing), 443 (iTunes Store), 548 (Personal File Sharing, Apple File Share), or another number. Searching through this form and referring to “Well Known” TCP and UDP Ports Used By Apple Software Products Tech document help point me in the right direction, I have no way of confirming any of the numbers as the standard.
I have attached the URLs to documents that go further in depth on what I am talking about.

    Hi Howard,
is this your first usage of BWA? Normally this config is done by the initial installation normally from your HW vendor.
Please use the python standalone tool trexadmin to setup this RFC connection:
    1. Log on with the user <sapsid>adm.
    2. Enter the following:
    cd <TREX_DIR>
    ./TREXAdmin.sh
Go to the tab 'Connectivity' and create a new RFC connection.

  • TCP Syslog output for routers and switches

I am installing a Log Correlation Server at a Customer site whom is very heavy Cisco.
I have a 3825 at their Border, ASA boxes on both sides of the DMZ, and 40 + cisco Switches in the Infrastructure routing between Production VLAN's.
One of the features fo the Logging Server is the ability to accept TCP connections for Syslog.
Does this functionality also exist on the 3825 Router? How about a 3550 switch? Or a 4500 switch?

You can create synonyms for objects over the database link. Or you can create a second database link with a different name that connected to the same remote database as the same user. But I don't believe you can create a synonym for a database link.
