TCS2: linked project FM9 & RH8, impossible to update new FM parag

In a linked project FM9 and RH8, everything works fine except the following update:
If I add a new paragraph label in the FM9 document and save it; then if I run the overall update from RH8 everything seems to work fine, but when I try to edit the styles (Paragraph with the FM_FMlabels list), the new added paragraph label has not been imported.
What is wrong in my procedure ?

You probably need to go into the RH to FM conversion settings on the project to map the new FM style to something RH understands.

Best way to Create New projects in FM9 RH8?

Hi, I just finished doing this exact project. I found that the
discrepancies between my old style sheet and the new one caused
strange font changes that I could not account for.
Instead, I copied and pasted the css from the old project into the new
RHStyleMappings.css file. I then saved the settings to a neutral place
on the drive.
Once this is done, I create a new project in RH8, do the project
settings first, importing the settings into the new project.
I then import the book by reference.
This seems to work best.
I still have some questions about this:
What does the FM template have to do with it? Where does this come
from? Can I link to any file, as long as it contains the most recent
styles? Why does the .isf save this template? Since it does, does it
also save the location of that template? If so, do I need checkmark
the link every time I create a new project and import the settings?
Finally, does the .isf file contain the RHSettings.css as well? Or
does the .css need to be co-located with the .isf?
I will probably find the answers out to most of these questions soon,
but if you have ideas I would like to hear them.

I would just like to talk about the possible usage of FM template
1. It is used to import all the style define in the FM documents and apply
that to any linked FM book/document
            It is equivalent to Importing Formats from the FM document used
as template into the linked FM book/document
but there is also a usage of this feature in an entirly different paradimn
2. We can use any Document(which is part of the whole book we need to
import/link or at least has all the FM styles used that will be used in the
mapping) as template in project setting dialog and then all the styles used
in the document will apper in the conversion setting dialog and you can use
thes eto define all your mapping or setting for these styles
            This is a workaround to enable style mapping and settings
mapping without linking/importing the actual document.
the location of the template used is not saved rather the actual template
document is saved in the setting.isf file
so the anotomy of settings.isf file is it contains
   a. All the settings or mapping that we defined
   b. the CSS file used for mapping (default RHStyleMapping.css)
   c. The FM template used .
and you need to check the check box after you import the .isf file if you
want to apply this template on the Linked FM book/document or any Import in
future !

Error linking to FM9 book

OK, we recently moved to Actually Adobe Tech Suite 2 and I was doing really well, until . . .
I have watched the videos and read what I can, and from this I have created a FM9 book titled onlinemanual. I have added all my FM docs and everything is good.
I open RH8 HTML, created a new blank project, called it OnlineManual, first topic Welcome. I then click file - Link - FrameMaker Document, and I find the book previously created and click ok. I then get the following error:
"The filename is invalid. The "" character cannot be used in a path."
I have not used any illegal characters in the filenames. The only thing I could think of was RH didn;t like the names of the folders I put the files in (??) so oI copied them to the Documents folder, rebuilt the book and still received the error.
What am I missing here???

Hi all
Personally I belive Peter is spot on. Windows 7 is extremely persnickety about allowing any sort of access to things located in the Program Files folder.
Will the help be deployed on everyone's PCs that way? If so, I'm thinking that WebHelp may not be your desired output type given this situation.

Displaying the TOC of a RH6 project in RH8

As a companion question to my other recent post re RH6 to RH8 TOC, specifically:
If I have a RH6 project which I open in RH8, how do I display the TOC of the RH6 project without creating a brand new one so I can view and edit it?

Apologies if I have misunderstood your question but just try double clicking on the TOC file that has been updated from RH6 when you opened the project in RH8. You'll find it in the Project Set-up pod.

The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You — not the previous owner — must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
1. You don't own another Mac.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. For early MBA models, you may need a USB optical drive or Remote Disc. You should have received the media from the previous owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
2. You do own another Mac.
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can boot from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
Once booted in Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.

=> No problem to install updates on CS5.5, but not on CS6

What's happened when trying : I get any error message. The Adobe Application Manager window is empty and when I try to update with the software a window opens with the following message "recherche de mises à jour..." or "checking for updates..." but nothing... I wait and wait...

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
- Next try the manual install method of:

Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
- Then try on another computer

Saving Dyanamically Linked Projects

Hi Fellows,
MY HISTORY: I made the jump from Adobe Video Collection on a P3 PC to, last year, CS4 Production Premium and now to CS5 on an i7 Quad with 4 1GB drives. What a hugh difference and an enormous learning curve. My problem with a Project slowing down on the i7 with CS4 after approx 5 rapid sequential operations appears to be solved with CS5. I imagine this was partly due to a synchronous problem as a result of switching and routing bit streams using 32 bit software on a 64 bit PC in addition to what may be a slower memory or drive component. I find that the tutorials are excellent.
My ROBLEM: I have looked but have so far been unable to find information on how to correctly save a dynamically linked Project and open all the linked programs correctly so all the updates are saved. I found reference to a bug in CS4 and an excellent tutorial on how to save time by not having to render all imported Projects into P.Pro CS5. Again, I wonder how I should save say 2 Projects from AE and Encore into P.Pro using these timer saving operations with the ability to recover where I left off. If my question has already been answered, please point me in the right direction.

There is only one way to save, with or without Dynamic Linking involved.
You initiate the Save command, either with a keyboard shortcut or through the menu. There's no trick to it, nothing special because there may be DL elements in the project. Any changes made to the base project will just show up automatically in the DL'd project.
Opening those projects is also accomplished in the normal fashion, nothing is different about it.

Impossible to update my subscription . ID Spanish but Currently in the UK

I´m trying to update my plan to become a basic using form central. I have my ID but apparently I cant go forward the webpage , as they say my ID is Spanish and I am currently living in the UK.
Any ideas?

The point is that I do have UK credit card, but apparently my ID was " issue" in Spain. I do have an Spanish credit card as well, so this shouldn´t be a problem. The thing is that I´m not able to upgrade because my ID is Spanish and I´m in the UK.
This doesn´t make sense at all to me. Any other ideas?

The billing address associated with your Adobe ID must be in a Formscentral supported country. Additionally the credit card must be issued from a supported country. Can you please check that these are both true for your Adobe ID and let us know if you still have a problem upgrading?

Unable to open project after 6.0.2 update

Hi:
I updated FCP Studio2 to the latest software (6.0.2) on Wednesday. I edited and worked without any issues on Thurday & Friday.
Today, when I opened the same project I get the following message: "File's format is too new for this version of the application". There's an OK button and nothing more. FCP stays open and I can create new projects, sequences, etc. The problem seems to be with my current project. BTW, when I open this project, FCP starts to read all the related files and at 48% is when we get the message.
Any clues???

I was able to figure out the problem. I have 2 FCP icons, one on the desktop and another in the dock.
When I open FCP using the desktop icon, it runs ver. 6.0.1 and when I click the icon in the dock, it runs ver. 6.0.2 and my project opens fine.
Being fairly new to Macs, I did not know you can have 2 versions of the same program. In Windows, when you update a program, it updates the icons no matter where they are.

Project Professional 2010 and pwa hangs when opening a linked project from PWA on Project Server 2010

When I open a linked project in Project Professional 2010 from PWA, Project Professional 2010 hangs with the "Links Between Projects ..." dialog box open. Unable to move or close the dialog box. Unable to move or close Project Professional
2010. The PWA tab on internet explorere is frozen and unable to access although other tabs in IE are accessible. End up having to reboot to close down project or force the process to end. I suspect a hidden dialog box is the culprit maybe
the scheduling conflict dialog box but am unable to access or switch and cannot confirm that there is another dialog box.
Has anybody else experienced this problem?

I have seen it hang when trying to open a project schedule even with no external links.
Project 2013 Pro, Link to schedule is on a PWA on a Project 2007 server.
If Project 2013 is open before clicking on the link, there is a long delay and the project schedule opens up in the web tab where the link was selected. If Project 2013 is not open, it just hangs and has to be shut down via the task manager.
No idea why. I can create a link to the shared volume and that works OK. But if I actually try to open MS Project by clicking on the link to a .mpp file it never opens in MS Project.

This happens when you both use the same Apple ID for iMessage. To fix this you have two choices:
On one of the phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID. Note: you can still share the same ID for purchasing in Settings>iTunes & App Stores; or
On both phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and uncheck the email address(es) shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at". Also uncheck the other phone's phone number, if present.

For some reason if I click a link that needs to open in a new window, the new window is blank. This just started happening when firefox updated itself last time

I should bring your attention to the fact that your user agent says you're using Firefox 3.6, not 3.0. I will remind you that Firefox 3.0 has been discontinued and is no longer supported. Furthermore, it has known bugs and security problems.
As for your problem, you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

Linking Projects

I have published five small captivate 3 movies and linked
them by bot the last button on the page and by the project
preferences at end of project open URL or File and I have connected
to the skin.swf of the appropriate file. To no avail. The next
project will not open. Thinking that perhaps it was because
Captivate 3 publishes to a new file, I dumped all of the out put
files into one big folder. This did not work either. I am stumped
and would greatly appreciate some help.

Ok. I don't get this because MY settings are correct but
anyone accessing the project gets these.
So, I tried it using Flash 9 setting. When linking two or
more projects together, it just stops at the end of the first one
and doesn't continue.
Any suggestions?

Tracking of Masks created in linked project in Speedgrade dissapear in Premier Pro

I have a sequence in Premiere Pro which I am grading in Speedgrade.
I am using masks in SG and track them to follow the subjects face.
However if I go back to PP, the mask is there, but the tracking is gone.
No problem I thought, I just render it in SG (no my preferred option but ok).
However since this is a linked project, SG tells me to render it in PP.
Which means I am stuck.....
The keyframes are preserved if I go to PP and then back to SG, however, PP seems to ignore it.
Am I missing something, or is should this functionality that should have been disabled in a linked project in SG like some of the other features.

Just checking... does your premiere project involve clips with scaling ? Speedgrade CC currently has a bug where masks do not function properly when your premiere clips involve scaling. I've run into all sorts of problems because of this. Here are some related posts:
