Tearing my hair out trying to install a HP all in one printer

Hi there I have a HP all in one Deskjet f2280 and I keep getting an error
"an error occurred while trying to add the selected printer, error -50"
I can't add a printer and I've installed and reinstalled the software???
I contacted Hewlett Packard and they've said it was an apple problem, does anyone know what I can do?
thanks

Welcome To  Discussions Jellybean100!
If you installed the driver/software, from a CD, uninstall it, then download & install from here HP Deskjet F2280 All-in-One Printer, instead.
There are tips & FAQ at that site as well.

  • After trying to install 6500 Wireless all-in-one on my 3rd comp, it ceased to work

While trying to install my (less than 2 year old) HP6500 Wireless all-in-one software on my 3rd networked computer, the software installation went into a loop and would not complete the installation.  After about an hour or so of waiting, I physically had to unplug the printer & eject the CD. Upon doing so, the printer became next to useless. The printer key pad no longer functions except when I first plug it in, and I can no longer access it from the other 2 original computers, even with USB.  The HP solution center says it’s on line, until I go to print via USB, then it says it’s offline. I can hook the USB up on the Widows 7 unit and force it to print Word Office documents, but when I try to print documents on it from either Internet Explorer or Fire Fox it wants to send a Fax??? I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software 3 times on my Windows 7 unit now to no avail. Is it my printer, the printer Firmware or what?  I have downloaded and run all the HP & Microsoft troubleshooting tools on the Windows 7 unit to no avail.  However; HP downloads will not successfully complete on my XP unit.  What should I do? Should I start over with a new wireless printer?
    Totally Confuzed

    Ref: 02-23-2012 08:53 AM
12:38 AM 2/24/2012 UPDATE ON WHAT I HAVE TRIED AGAIN:
    1. Power Reset on the Printer: Power off the printer. Unplug the power cable from the back of the unit. Wait 60 seconds. Replug the power cable to the printer and power it on. DONE
     2. Print a test page: Follow this document to print the test page. PRINTER SCREEN SAYS IT'S PRINTING AND THE POWER LIGHT IS FLASHING LIKE IT'S BUSY, BUT NOTHING IS HAPPENING. ONLY WAY TO USE IT NOW IS TO UNPLUG IT AND START OVER. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME NOW. IT WILL NOT PRINT TEST REPORTS.
     3. Create a copy of the printed test page. CANNOT DO NOW - (PRINTER FREEZES UP WITH A BLINKING POWER LIGHT)
     4. Print the Wireless Network Test Report (To check if there are any errors) CANNOT DO
Press the Setup button ( ). DOESN'T WORK EXCEPT MOMENTARILY...NOT LONG ENOUGH TO MAKE A SELECTION BEFORE IT HANGS AND FREEZES UP...
Press the Right Arrow button ( ) to select Network Setup, and then press the OK button. CAN'T GET IT TO DO ANYTHING PRESSING THE OK BUTTON.
Press the Right Arrow button ( ) to select Wireless Network Test , and then press the OK button. The Wireless Network Test Report prints. CAN'T GET IT TO DO ANYTHING PRESSING THE OK BUTTON.
If you did not encounter any errors while performing the steps above then I think the hardware is OK. Test the software next. Let's use Windows 7 as the test platform. I DON'T THINK THE HARDWARE IS OK.
    1. Download the driver from HP.com. Once it gives you the option to either Run or Save make sure to select Save and then select Desktop as the target location where it will save the file. This is just to make it easier to find it. Once it finishes downloading the file, double click it to initiate the installation process. Follow the on screen instructions until you reach the "select how you want to connect the printer" window comes up. I ALREADY HAVE 3 COPIES ON MY DESKTOP & NONE OF THEM REACT ANY DIFFERENTLY.
     2. At the "select how you want to connect the printer" window select USB and then click Next (I think there is a next button). It should asks you to connect your printer but we are NOT going to do that. Place a checkmark on the option on the bottom of the window that gives you the option to bypass the connection phase of the installation. Click Next to proceed. Once the the installation process completes, restart your computer. I HAVE DONE IT BOTH WAYS BEFORE AND CANNOT GET THE INSTALLATION TO COMPLETE ON ANY OF THE 3 COMPUTERS NOW.
If you did not encounter any errors at this point then it looks like the software installation process is good. Proceed to the next test. END OF TEST FOR TONIGHT. THANKS
    1. After the computer completely boots up, connect the USB cable to the printer and to the computer. The computer should detect the printer and initiate the HP installation process for it. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the install.
    2. Try printing to test functionality.

  • Trying to install an HP All-in-One

    Morning all...
Well, I'm a recent converted Windows user and I'm about to pull what's left of my hair out. I purchased a used PowerBook G4 a month ago and everything w/ printing has been great until this last weekend. I purchased a new HP Photosmart C6150 All-in-One in December 06, mainly for the wireless capabilities. When I bought the G4, it connected right away w/ Rendezvous (didn't even know what that was at the time, still don't really know) and everything was working perfectly. THEN I moved this weekend, re-setup my wireless and now the printer won't print, the G4 recognizes the printer via Rendezvous, but won't connect stating 'Driver not installed'. I HAVE managed to work around it after uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers several times to get the system to view the printer in generic form (don't ask me how I did it but I did) but try to print and it won't connect. I went into the printer and re-established an IP address and was able to find it through IP w/ the HP setup, but that won't print either. Bluetooth doesn't work either. I even hooked it up via USB (which works) just to see if I was losing my mind...
Any suggestions? Do you need more info? I'm at my wits end at this point... Hooking up the printer via USB defeats the purpose, if you know what I mean...
    Thank you in advance...

    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I had a similar problem a few months ago. I also have the PowerBook G4. I was trying to install the HP Photosmart C7180.
My printer was new, so I called HP Tech Support. (HP has really great tech support for Mac users.) It seems that they had quite a number of wrong installation cd's shipped with their printers for the Mac. The cd's are labeled correctly, but they are not actually the correct cd's as labeled.
One way to tell, is during the installation. If I remember correctly, there is a prompt which asks which printer you have from a drop down menu. As I recall, my model was "Exactly" on the menu. But, I chose one from the menu which I thought was close enough. This was one indication to HP tech support that it was the wrong installation cd.
In any case, you can go to HP's website and download the the latest, correct installation.
    I would try that.

I need something that doesn't require a disk for setup.

Based upon your criteria an HP 100 Envy all in one would fit. The drivers are downloaded from Apple.

  • HP Deskjet F2120 all in one printer driver not installing after upgrading to Windows 7

I have a HP Deskjet F2120 all in one printer. I was working fine in Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
Once I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit the driver is failing to install.
I have tried all the solutions provided on the HP website but none of them worked.
I also wrote a mail to HP support but they replied that its out of warranty hence they will not be able to help.
If some genius can help me I will pray for him/her that all his/her wishes come true.
    Thanks you in advance.

I just got my HP Deskjet F2120 working in Windows 7.  Here's how:
Insert the setup disk in your CD/DVD drive.  Choose to view the files in Explorer.  Scroll down to the file "Setup," which is identified as an application.
Right-click the file and select "Properties." Click the "Compatibility" tab at the top of the resulting window.
Check off "Run this program in compatability mode for:" and choose "Windows Vista" from the pop-up menu.
ALSO check "Run this program as administrator" at the bottom of the window.
    Press "Apply," then "OK."
Now you can double-click the "Setup" file and run the software installer.
    It will 100% work inshallah...

  • Installed a new harddrive in my macbook pro. cannot connect to hp photosmart all in one printer!!

I, recently, installed a new hard drive on my MacBook Pro Laptop Computer (2007 model).
Now, I cannot print out anything on my HP Photosmart  C7180 All-In-One Printer! They don't
seem to be connected, as the printer icon shows up on my computer,  and then, immediately, evaporates
    into thin air.
How do I connect my HP Printer to my laptop, now that I have a new harddrive installed?

    Hello Lady22:
When you received your printer you should have received two insulation disks one is for Windows computers and the other one is for Mac ( Apple Computer) If you have the disks please install Mac disk.  Apple computers do search and down load the parcel software so you can do basic printing commands. You need to find the program that is some where in your computer that allows you to hook up Pinters and Devices. Ounce you find this open it up then connect the printer cable to the lap top. The computer program will list HP's printers yuo need to select your printers model number. Then it will down load the drivers for it to run basic commands. Ounce they are download run a test to make sure it is working right. Contact HP's store and asked them to send you a new set of insulation disk. Your old disk may have fine dust film on them. Clean them off pior to inserting them If you use glass cleaner and fine cloth make sure they are dry off before you insert them. If you used them before maybe a speck of dirt blocked out parcel program that caused it not to install correctly . frrw

  • Problem with installing Solution Center for a HP Photosmart Premium All-in-One Printer - C309g

    Hi folks,
I've searched many threads and found some directions to remedy this, tried them and have had no luck.
I'm running Windows 7.  All updates are current.  When I bought the printer I installed the software (on Windows 7 OS) from the disc and everything was fine.  Fast forward a year and Solution Center stopped working.
Uninstalled all HP software to reinstall.  I was only able to reinstall HP Update.  I was able to load the basic drivers for print and scan, but not the entire software suite including Solution Center.  The installation stops abruptly after "installing updates".
I even downloaded and tried "PS_AIO_06_C309g-m_USW_Full_Win_enu_140_175" and got the same result as the original installation disc.
What can I do with my printer (HP Photosmart Premium All-in-One Printer - C309g)???
    Thanks,
    Alex

  • Installing HP PSC 1350 all-in-one printer/scanner

In the past, I could usually solve the "Offline" or "Not Connected" problems by unplugging my printer for a few minutes, but that no longer works. So, I decided to buy another one. However, just before clicking on the BUY button on Amazon, I decided to try to fix the problem one more time. Part of the "fix" was deleting my printer from the computer and then reinstalling it. This is where I'm now stuck. I deleted it, but I can't reinstall it. I get to the ADD window, but everything is grayed out. So, how do I install my printer? I might add that the HP instructions that I was following (OSX v. 10.9 Mavericks- Installing and using the printer on a Mac) are what got me this far.

Have you installed the v10.9 Mavericks compatible driver yet >>  Software & driver downloads HP PSC 1350 All-in-One Printer | HP® Support
After you download the driver, open System Preferences > Printer & Scanners > Print
Delete the current printer by selecting it then click -  (minus)
Then click + to add the printer back in.
That should load the driver for you.

  • HP 3520 All-in-One Printer Falls Out of Wireless Network Periodicially

We have an ongoing problem with our HP 3520 All-in-One Printer. We set it up for wireless printing and it works....for a while. Periodically, we find that it falls off the wireless network and will not print except when plugged into the USB cable. The problem is that my husband has an Ipad Air as his main device which he cannot plug into the printer and needs to have wireless working...and the main reason we bought this printer was to have wireless capability. We *think* that it may be falling off the network when we have a brief power outage or Internet outage, which happens occassionally for a short time. Also, on my laptop, although the wireless set-up to this printer has worked in the past, now I see that I can either connect my laptop to the Internet network OR the printer, but not both at the same time. How strange is that?
I have printed out the Wireless Network Test Results AND the HP Network Configuration Page, in case that information can be useful as we attempt to troubleshoot this problem.
Note that the printer is no longer under warranty.
I have reviewed numerous HP product support pages and feel as if I am running in circles. The help information is confusing to us and we have spent so many hours trying to troubleshoot this issue that my husband has completely given up on that printer and I am doing my best to try to save it since it is only about a year old.
We appreciate any help you can give us to remedy this ongoing problem.
