Teather shooting w/Canon5dMrk3 into LR4.1 using snow  leapard or lion

Why does it not work ?....still..??? I am using the latest Canon Firmware 1.1.3

Just a thought, did Adobe sell you your Canon 5D MK3?
Did you get software from your Camera Manufacturer that provides you with tether support on Mac OS X Lion?
If tether support for the Canon 5D MK3, from Adobe Lightroom was critical to the success of your buisness, then you should have ensured this was available, before making a purchase of the Camera or Adobe Lightroom.
The other option is to expect your Camera Manufacturer to provide you with software that does not require your dependencence on Adobe for tether support.
Nope ... Adobe didn't help me in any situation ... I don't own a 5D MkIII ... but it is the same story for the Nikon D800 and D4 units I do use (funny how the whole issue seems to be an utter failure for Adobe ... not just a single brand or model of camera) ... so rather than disappoint my clients when I need to shoot tethered ... I use Aperture 3 ... rather than spend my time making excuses for Adobe by proxy ... is that what Adobe invisioned when they began to offer the tether feature? I don't have a problem using other software options ... I would think it should be of the utmost concern to the folks that "know" something on the Lightroom team that I have to resort to other options and abandon Lightroom in the process ... which only leads me further away from Lightroom on each endeavor when I have to seek out something that DOES work ... I would think that should be a big old red flag for those decision makers in charge ...
... and just for the sake of discussion ... I don't buy software, computers or cameras just for the sake of having the latest and greatest ... sometimes you aren't given the choice to defer an equipment or software purchases when it is time to replace something instead of paying a stiff repair bill or from a fire, theft or other damge or loss ... why would you not replace it with the most recent introduction? ... Or if you have to buy a new computer to replace an older unit that is failing or has already failed, why not replace it with with what is current? I don't know about you, but when I invest my hard-earned dollars, I don't like living in the past ... it's far too easy to fall woefully behind in technology without really trying ...
What's really funny is ... in one thread the regulars here impart their wisdom of how you need to keep your hardware and OS current to take advantage of the latest advancements in Lightroom/ACR and current RAW file support ... then in the next thread lament that some folks jump the gun too soon before the support arrives ... Gee ... I wish I lived in the perfect world some others seem to call home ...

I have just transferred all my raw, jpeg & tiff files into LR4 and using the  opportunity to delete old raw files to free up disc space. How can i completely remove a raw file from my mac disc??

I'd be careful here: LR references files. It can copy them, like from an SD card to your hard drive, but it doesn't necessarily make duplicates. So when you say you "transferred" those files "into" LR it just means you referenced existing files. And if you delete those they're gone, unless you've made copies. LR does not import files by copying them into a managed library like Aperture does.

  • Import into LR4 using PV2010?

After trying LR4 beta for about a month as a LR3 heavy user, my conclusion is there are features worth the upgrade, BUT I prefer the earlier Process Version and Basic Develop panel to the new one.  I understand that I may choose not to upgrade the Process Version on photos in my present catalog as I import the catalog into LR4, thereby causing LR4 to look like LR3 for those preexisting photos.  However, I'm unclear as to whether there is a way to configure LR4 so that it will import all new photos using PV2010, thereby continuing to develop them using the LR3 Basic panel and other develop controls.  Does this option exist?

I used to shoot video in my Powershot S3 IS (Format MVI_.AVI) and load them into iPhoto, I used quicktime pro so I could convert for emailing to family members.  That was when I was running Leopard now with Mt. Lion nothing works.  Videos do not open at all.  Any simple suggestions, I am not real keen on iMovie Productions and not real certain how they compress for emailing attachments.  Something simple here that I am missing?  Thanks so much.  I am a grandpa trying to share with family members far away (quickly & simply).

I am surprised that Apple did not build a converter into Mt. Lion.
Apple does have a converter built into Mountain Lion. It is call "Quicktime." However, in order to use this converter, you must first make sure the compression formats are playback compatible with QT. Basically, there are three levels of QT compatibility. The lowest is "Playback." These file can be played by QT but may not be conversion or edit compatible with QT. The second level is QT "Conversion" compatible. These files are playback compatible and can be converted to other compression formats using QT. "Edit" compatible media files are "Fully" compatible with QT since the can be played, converted and/or edited by QT. The main problem here is that AVI is a "legacy" file format that has not been officially supported by Microsoft for more than 11 years when it was replaced by Windows Media multimedia file/compression formats. Many of the original compression formats used in AVI files have never been transcoded for the Mac platform, use beyond system 9, or use beyond PPC platforms. In addition, some commonly used AVI codecs are proprietary or use non-standard (hybrid) profile and level combinations. In short, there is little wonder that Apple has been distancing itself from this outdated file type as it re-writes and upgrades its own QT structure to support more standardized, more scalable, more modern high definition file types and compression formats. It is really unfortunate that users continue to use this outmoded file type simply because it is freely available, easy to use, or they are simply too lazy to move on to a more modern or more efficient file types and/or compression formats.
I tested Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate for the Mac, which seems to be the "state of the art".  I may be purchasing a new camera which might create a whole new set of variables.  This program seems to cover all bases and is great for novices.
There are many third-party apps available if you wish to search for them. Many are even available in the App Store. Most do their job well and it is usually a matter of personal user preference as to which is best.
HandBrake seems more suited to folks with more experience and knowledge.
I mentioned Handbrake primarily because it is free and easy to use when you employ the included conversion presets options. (The TV options can normally be used for almost any situation depending on the source file and output requirements.) It is also excellent for more experienced users, but has a somewhat limited choice of output options as it does not access the user's system QT codec component configuration.

  • "Splotchy" Nikon .NEF imports into LR4

    Hi,
I am a new LR4 user.  I have the latest 4.2 update.  My camera is a Nikon D7000 and I have noticed something rather odd since I've started using LR4.  When I import raw .NEF files into LR4 any area of the image that would normally be smooth has a "splotchy", textured appearance to it.  Even at ISO 100, this textured appearance is visible on blurred, normally smooth portions of the image when zoomed in at 2:1 or 3:1.  When I open the same image in Capture NX2, the same portions of the image are smooth as expected with no noise or otherwise weird appearance.  To avoid this, I have to open the image in NX2 and save as a .TIF, then open in LR4.  Then, everything looks okay.  I have tried all the various profiles under 'Camera Calibration' but nothing gets rid of the annoying textured appearance.  Anyone else noticed this, or am I doing something wrong?

Thank you for  your response.  I think you hit the proverbial "nail on the head".
When getting the screenshots ready, I paid attention to the settings on the 'Detail' panel.  When I changed the default Sharpening amount from 25 to zero, the images looked almost identical at 300% zoom.  I also noticed on the NX2 'Camera Settings' panel that a small amount of noise reduction was automatically being applied upon import.  When turning that off, the images looked the same.  When sharpening is increased in either program to where artifacts are present, the two images start to differ in appearance, but I assume that is due to the different sharpening algorithms used in the different programs.  I will probably continue use Photoshop for final image sharpening.  I haven't found anything else to compare to it for final sharpening.
Thanks again for helping this 'newbie' to Lightroom!

  • LR3 cataloques into LR4

I have a huge LR 3 cataloque, which was imported to a trial version of LR4. I was not quick enough to order LR4 upgrade before my trial period was over. I returned to LR 3 for some time before I got my own licence of LR 4. When I got it I removed the LR 4 trial and installed the LR 4 upgrade. The installation went OK, but importing the LR3 images that had been imported into LR3 after stopping the use of LR4 trial version was not asked during the installation process. Neither they were there. The LR4 cataloque was exactly the same as it was when I stopped using the trial version. How should I proceed to get the part of the LR3 cataloque, which I worked with in between the Trial LR 4 and the "proper" LR4 into LR4. I would not like to import the raw images again and start from the scracthes with each image.
    yours Kari

Filter your post-4-trial LR 3 catalog by date.
Select all photos that occur after the date where you stopped using LR4 trial.
Take that selection and "Export as a Catalog" to a temporary catalog.
Open your LR4 catalog and import the temporary catalog using the Import from Another Catalog function.

  • Problems converting / importing PSE9 catalog into LR4

Im having problems converting / importing my PSE 9 photos into LR4.  I went through the "File / Upgrade PS..." without success.  It seems to work...ie LR4 closes down and then creates a new catalog but then a box appears saying that the photos could not be imported because they are missing or damaged.  I then thought that my PSE 9 catalog is not set up right BUT LR4 tell me that the 27023 photos could not be imported for the reason stated.  In other words LR does see the PSE catalog because it give the correct amount of photo's.  I then did a small test by dragging some photos from my PSE 9 into LR4 and that seems to work.  All the keyword tags move across. Is there a problem or dont I understand the process?

If I remember properly, it will not be an onerous task. What Exiftool will do is transfer the notes to some other metadata field that LR uses ... and I believe it can be done as a batch job, thus one execution of Exiftool does this for your entire photo collection (assuming its all under one parent folder).
Here is the method (see post #12 in this thread): http://forums.adobe.com/message/2148552#2148552

  • Does LR3 catalog roll automatically into LR4 on installation?

I installed LR4 and now have LR3 and LR4 catalog in the path: Mac HD>Users>me>pictures>Lightroom.  Do I need to keep the LR3 catalog. I'm not sure how to tell if it is redundant or not?
My question: Can I delete the LR3 Catalog? Is the LR3 catalog  automatically brought into LR4 upon installation?
    Thanks,
    Rima

I would keep the Lr3 catalog for a while until you are sure that everything is OK in Lr4.
As long as Lr3 is not un-installed, you can use it to check things out as they were in the Lr3 catalog.
Lr3 cannot read the Lr4 catalog, so as long as you have the Lr3 catalog you can check things out in Lr3.
But refrain from doing any work in Lr3 because it would be saved in the Lr3 catalog while Lr4 works with the Lr4 catalog. So your Lr3 catalog should be "read only" - only for checking things.
Once you are sure that everything is fine and accounted for in Lr4 you can delete the Lr3 catalog and un-install Lr3.

  • Importing into LR4

Hello, I have downloaded the LR4 trial. I'm not sure yet if it's the best way, but I have existing photo folders on the hard drive, so decided to import from there into LR4 using the 'add' methos, then convert to DNG afterwards. I wanted to keep the same file structure, and have the photo's just 'referenced' by LR4
In Martin Evening's book it states: 'The add option is the one I suggest you use mostly here. With an "add" option you are telling Lightroom to "reference" the files where they are located on the computer.'
When I saw the 'reference' word I thought that LR4 would not 'take over' my folder system. But after importing one folder, I realise that although I can view the folders I haven't yet imported into LR4 with the Nikon View NX software I have been using with Capture NX2, View NX will now not read the one folder that I have imported into LR4.
This suggests to me that LR4 has indeed taken over my file structure - can anyobe suggest what I should have done (I would like to keep my existing structure and open files from it in LR4 AND any other program I wish). Also, after I have imported all folders from my hard drive, it might be worth then importing direct from card. Can anyone give me the basic pointers to doing this and keep the same 'referenced file' structure.
I'm a bit of a novice, and although I'm sure Martin Evening's book is very good for experienced people, I find that it just doesn't make things easy to understand for those like myself - I have order Scott Kelby's book and hope that is easier for me
    Thank you

    Roy,
You're on the right track. When you import into LR using Add, all it does is put pointers to the imported files in its database. Absolutely nothing happens to the files on disk. They are still in their original folder, available to any other program that is able to open them. (Although if you're using LR to its full potential, you probably won't need to access any of your images directly.)
I don't know what your problem is with View NX. What is it telling you?
Ahh...Richard probably has it right. If you converted to DNG, of course your Nikon software won't be able to deal with the images.

  • How to sync the album and track info that I entered into a CD using iTunes with the actual disc?

    Hello,
I recently recorded some cover songs, and I imported them into iTunes. So, after entering the track info (track names and album art) into each track using "Get Info", I burned them to a CD. I was completely shocked that the track info and album artwork did not get inputted onto the CD. So, I entered the track info, but could not add the album artwork.
How to add the album artwork is not as important a question. But it's one of my 2.75 questions.
My other issue is that the info that I put on the CD using iTunes is only visible within iTunes. Therefore, I cannot get the track names elsewhere.
    My 2.5 questions are:
    1) How do I get the track and album info to display in Windows Explorer and Windows Media Player (and the touchscreen CD Player in the car)?
    2) How do I add digital album artwork to the CD (so that it shows on the touchscreen CD Player in the car - if iPods have the artwork and it shows on the car's screen, a CD should be able to show the artwork on the car's screen, when talking about limitations of the car)
2.5) How do I make that artwork display across everywhere I plug that disc into?
2.75) How do I ensure that when others import my CD, my artwork, track names, and album name also import from the CD?
I have already burnt the CD, so I would prefer a way to tweak the properties of the already burnt CD rather than burning a whole new disc.
    Thank you!
    -Royce

    1) Metadata visibility in Windows Explorer and/or Windows Media Player depends on OS version and file type. The mp3 format has the widest support. As for the touchscreen CD Player in your car who can say? If it can play data discs the results will be better than with audio CD. If it can display CD text then this option should be selected when creating an audio CD.
    2) Artwork cannot be attached to the tracks on an audio CD. If your car system supports it all then it will be with data discs. Check the specifications of the system for the media types it can support on a data disc.
2.5) Simply ensure the artwork is embedded in the tag.
I have two scripts that can help with this, CreateFolderArt and EmbedFolderArt.
The scripts have a slightly different purpose.
CreateFolderArt ensures that every album folder ends up with a Folder.jpg image which is the art that iTunes already knows about. Side effects are that if artwork has been updated in iTunes the folder art should be updated also, and if any track from the album doesn't have embedded artwork it gets embedded.
EmbedFolderArt was actually written for someone who already had various artwork images stored in the folders and wanted them added to their tracks, but not if iTunes had already downloaded a better quality image.
2.75) Again, use a data disc format. Note that you should not be giving away copies of copyrighted material.
Audio CDs are finalized, you cannot change any properties of them unless they are on rewritable media in which case you can erase the whole disc and start over.

  • Please help, I am trying to split a HD mp4 video into two parts using Quicktime 10.2

Please help, I am trying to split a HD mp4 video into two parts using Quicktime 10.2, running Mountain Lion. I use trim then export but it doesn't give the movie option as a format. What would you suggest i do?

I'm not sure why you're using a FAT32 drive, but using ExFAT instead of FAT32 would be a better overall choice as it doesn't have the 4 Gig limit.
