Teathering iPad2 to iPhone4S doesn't work

When I teather my iPad2 to my iPhone 4S with WiFi, the iPhone reports 1 connection.  If I turn off WiFi and go with BlueTooth, it also reports 1 connection.  If both WiFi and BlueTooth are on (and the BlueTooth is paired), the iPhone reports 2 connections.
However, I cannot access the web with the iPad!!
I've called my cellular provider (Fido in Canada) and they do support teathering and my data plan allows it.  They tell me that since the iPhone is reporting the connection, as far as they're concerned, it is working.  They tell me to contact Apple for any further help.  SIGH
I've reset both the iPhone and iPad.  I've gone through the trouble-shooting steps on the support board.  Nothing is helping.
When I try to access a page on the web using Safari on the iPad, the progress bar at the top of the screen moves forward about a half inch and then stops.  Eventually I get the message: "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding."
What could be wrong and what should I do?

The problem is now solved...  Something was set wrong at my cellular provider and after two calls to their tech support and a visit to a local Apple store, someone in customer serivce at my provider (Fido in Canada) found that they'd set up my account wrong.  And within minutes of them fixing it, teathering was working.
So...  IF you are getting the 1 (or more) connection message on your iPhone and it's paired to another device and you cannot access the Internet, check with your provider to make sure they have properly enabled your account for teathering.

    But
    - I checked with several USB audio devices, from different providers. The issue is the same.
    - I checked with several applications (Winamp, MediaPlayer, ...). Same issue.
    - I checked these devices with different laptops (tried 3 different models) : I have NO PROBLEM.
    - The USB devices I use do not need external power supply. I tried EDIROL UA-25 which works perfectly in any case, but not with my TOSHIBA M40.
    - I agree that some application can disturb audio management. But in that case, I would like to know which one from the standard installation is the cause, so that I can fire it. It's anyway curious to see that switching from ACPI to Standard mode fixes the issue, as all applications are still there. I would say the applications are not the issue, then.
    - All Microsoft updates have already been installed
    - I think I tried everything that could be done by closing applications, changing power management modes, system cache, ...
    - I have no other hardware device connected/installed (printer or whatever)
    - RECORD works perfectly. So if some application layer was disturbing, I would bet it would bother in Play and Record as well.
    CONCLUSION : Unless someone can prove it (and I'm ready for some testing), I still believe there's a harware/driver layer that is faulty in the Toshiba management.
    And I don't need to contact the manufacturer, as I AM one of them :)
    If you are part of the Toshiba support, let me know. Maybe we can investigate together.

    Are you outside with a clear view of the sky? The first time a GPS device tries to acquire the GPS satellites it could take several minutes. Subsequent acquisitions will be faster.
    And as already asked, does your iPad have GPS?

  • The buttons on the left side of my Iphone4s doesn't work.

    I've had my phone for over a year. What should I do? the volume isn't working I have to turn the volume on the settings. and if I put my phone on vibrate mode it still doesn't work. I just discovered this problem today.

    Are the volume controls enabled?
    Settings > Sounds > Change with Buttons > ON
    Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved. 
    If the above does not resolve the issue, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

    The camera on my iPhone 4 isn't working and hasn't for quite sometime. I have updated the phone to IOS 6 and it hasn't made any difference.
    When you use the icon that appears at the bottom of the screen or the camera icon on the main screen all you see is the camera shutter.I have tried to restore the camera and that hasn't made any difference. I have spoken to Apple support and they sent me a support site to check out, but there isn't any specific solution for my problem. Has anyone had a similar problem and is there a solution?

    The repair of your unit is not covered by the warranty due Repaired by third parties. We have made this conclusion because the barcode sticker in the phone is not the same as in the software of the phone.

    Because of this conclusion they want to charge me 561,67 euro for replacement or 13,95 euro to get my broken Iphone back!
    I would like to clearly state that the device was never repaired either by owner or any third parties. It is logically unreasonable, as the device was bought and it has 1 year warranty.
    I don’t really understand how that can be. How can I really change it, if I would like to do this? Isn’t is a Apple production fail, and why I have lost warranty due to this?

    There is nothing wrong with the cards.  I enter .jpg files from them into I-Photo by connecting my camera to the IMac via USB cable. 
    What I'm trying to do is to is to get the SD card reader to work. I understand from a conversation with an Apple tech this afternoon that the card reader is, in fact, a two way device, so I could use it to write on the SD card with pix files downloaded from my desktop.  I want to do this in order to get my .jpeg files to a local lab for printing instead of using CDs that have much less capacity (700MB vs 8.0GB).

    This is really weird but my Iphone4 doesn't work in the dark. It works fine during the day but when it gets dark (e.g if I turn the lights off at night, in the movies, in a dark club) it stops working - When I push the home button or the on/off button the screen flashes normal and then just fades to black?? Can anyone shed some light on this?

    Can you keep it closer to your body, to use body heat to help keep it a little warmer? All phones, iPhones or others, have operating temperature range. You would have to try and locate a more ruggedized phone that was built to operate in those temperature extremes.

    Additional things to try.
    Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

    Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

    Yup - nothing happens.  I then took the same VGA cable and plugged it into my friend's iPad1 and it worked perfectly when she opened Keynote.  My understanding is that the iPad2 mirrors the entire screen, so no need to go into any specific application in order to project to the screen, right?  Do I need to download any specific app or change any settings in order to be able to project the screen using VGA?
    Sorry - novice at this.  Not very tech minded either...

    In most cars with built-in BT hands-free systems it is the car's system that does the speech to text conversion and lookup, not the phone's. so there's nothing that can be done in an iPhone forum to help you. Try the customer support site for the car. You can tell it's the car system if the contact list is downloaded to the car and displayed on the car's screen (if it has one).

    Is there any activity you have done on the iPad recently that is out of the ordinary? Or even an update?
    Check to see if any apps have updates that fix the problem.
    First, I would recommend doing a reset. No data will be lost. Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears.
    The next step (if not fixed) is to restore in iTunes. First try restoring from a backup, then you may have to set up as a new iPad if that doesn't work.
