Tebuchet screen rendering issues in Acrobat

I have created an information sheet using MS Trebuchet on the Mac in InDesign and exported to PDF. When viewing the PDF the font does not display correctly, some area looks bold. If you change the percentage zoom page size the font changes. It look fine at 130% but at 134% some of the sentences in paragraphs look bold?

I have been in discussion with a typographic designer who suggests it may be a combination of Trebuchet not being a ClearType font and therefore old technology and the text styling not being clean when the text is copied from Word into InDesign
Urm, both of those suggestions are gibberish absurdities.
First, whether a font is "a ClearType font" is just a question of whether the font's hinting is specifically optimized for ClearType. Non-ClearType fonts work fine under ClearType as well, and in any case Acrobat doesn't use ClearType at all—it uses Adobe's own font rendering technology.
Text styling is only an issue when the text is styled to a non-existent font. For example, you style some text bold, and there is no available bold font. This is only a problem in applications that allow such "faux" styles and try to "simulate" the bold or italic effect. But InDesign doesn't allow faux styles, hence there is no way that there could be a faux styling issue in a PDF made from InDesign. (I imagine there are ways to get faux styles into Acrobat, especially if the fonts aren't embedded, but I'm not sure I've seen it, aside from Acrobat's own substitution fonts. But none of that is relevant here.)
So I don't know what the problem IS, but I can tell you with some certainty that those are two things it IS NOT.
My first thought, like Dov's, was that it was some sort of transparency and flattening issue. But the details of where the text is and which text is affected make that seem less obviously plausible. Still, you might try as an experiment deleting the object(s) with the drop shadow on that page and seeing what happens. Or even copying that text box to an empty page.

  • InDesign CS4 - Serious Screen Rendering Issue

I just migrated from the CS2 Suite to CS4 Suite (I uninstalled CS2 Suite first before installing CS4 Suite) on my Windows XP SP3 system.
The first thing I noticed was that InDesign CS4 (ID) had trouble rendering its screens properly when doing common functions. When the issue occurs, only "parts" of the ID app screen will display (see attached figure), and the CPU usage (as shown in Task Manager) goes to 100% usage. At this point, my system grinds to a halt, and I don't know where I am in the ID application because the screen is not fully "painted". All I can do then is shut down ID using the "End Task" option of the Windows Task Manager. As soon as ID closes, my CPU usage immediately goes back to normal (5-10% range).
So far, I've noticed this rendering issue when:
    - I minimize the app to the system tray, then go to maximize it. This happens with or without an ID file open.
    - I am closing/exiting a file
    - any time a lot of screen repainting needs to occur when moving "in" and "out" of ID
This issue may not happen at every instance in the above circumstances, but often enough (90% of the time) to make ID virtually unusable to me. Sometimes, I am able to "jog" ID back to its senses (i.e., a proper repainting of the screen) by navigating through the ID menus. This works only sporadically, however, and the results usually do not last long.
This issue does not show up on any other of my CS4 apps (PhotoShop, Illustrator, Acrobat, etc.), nor on any of my Windows Office 2003 apps. My other colleagues in my department have not seen this issue with their CS4 ID, and some of them are running nearly identical systems as mine (everything but the Dell monitor).
What I've tried so far without any help:
    - used Adobe Updater for the latest CS4 updates (I am running ver. 6.0.2 of ID)
    - ran Windows Update and installed all the latest updates beyond SP3
    - deleted files on my hard drive to free up space (I have 20% free)
    - defragged my hard drive
    - updated my display driver
    - tried various screen resolutions and refresh rates of my display
    Specs of my machine:
    Dell Optiplex GX620
    Pentium 4 3.00 Ghz CPU
    80 GB Hard drive
    4 GB RAM
    Windows XP SP3
    Dell 1907ftp LCD monitor
    IE ver. 6.0.2900
    McAfee 3.6.0.608 virus checking
    Can anyone help?

One thing that is missing from your list of system components is the video card used on your system. And that may be the source of your problems. In general, though, we are not aware of any video problems particular to InDesign 6 as opposed to InDesign 4 which you previously had installed.
Many low-end computers from Dell and others take the low cost route by integrating a graphics display chip, typically from Intel, on the motherboard which does not have its own dedicated graphics memory. It shares memory with Windows. This has several ramifications (pun not really intended, sorry!). The first is that using main memory as video memory means that you have very slow video memory, very much slower than the memory on dedicated graphics cards. The second is that access to that memory competes with disk operations, CPU operations, and virtually everything and anything going on with your system. If in fact your system does have one of these integrated graphics chips in lieu of a real graphics card, there might not be much you can do assuming you have the latest video driver (you said you checked that) unless your Dell OptiPlex allows you to disable the motherboard integrated graphics chip and install a real video card. (To be completely fair, the integrated graphics display chips are perfectly fine for systems that are not running graphically intensive applications - Outlook, Word, and a web browser instance or two work quite well with those configurations.)
Other things that I would check would be disk space as well as fragmentation. An 80GB disk is not that big these days and if most or much of the remaining free disk space is highly fragmented (as it might be after uninstalling CS2, installing CS4, and perhaps doing a whole bunch of Windows updates including SP3), disk operations, including page file operations, might be excrutiatingly slow.

  • Odd Screen Rendering Issue

    Hello,
My iMac is displaying an odd screen rendering error that I so far have not been able to resolve. There is a black line that runs over 2" along the bottom right corner of the display. It does not appear when on the grey Mac boot screen, but shows up after log in. I tried to take a screenshot using CMD+OPTION+4 and the line does not show up. If you look closely at the picture attached you will see that the mouse cursor renders over the line.
I have all the latest updates installed. This iMac is also out of the AppleCare Warranty period.
Any recommendations on how to solve this would be greatly appreciated. I work in IT, so don't hold back on the technicalities.
    Thanks,
    Ken

As others have said, this feature is called "screen zoom". Hold down the control key and scroll up or down on your mouse to zoom in or out. Right now you are zoomed in. This also works on the trackpad.
If you don't want that feature enabled you can go to system preferences>mouse and uncheck "screen zoom" there.

  • Adobe Acrobat X Pro Ver. 10.1.7 rendering issues

    Hello
I have rendering issues with Acrobat X Pro Ver 10.1.7.
When I zoom in to 100% and use the hand tool to move the image around, it moves about 1 inch then it freezes for 3-4 seconds, then I can move it again.  This happens at all zoom %, but it gets worse as I zoom in further.
This gets even worse if I add text callouts and text boxes.
Windows reports the size of the .pdf document at about 700 Kilobytes.
I played with the Preferences - 3D & Multimedia - Rendeiring settings, etc. to no avail.
I have 64 bit Windows 7 Enterprise on a DELL Precision  M4500-I 1.6GHZ CORE I7 QUAD CORE laptop with 8 GB of RAM and a NVIDIA QUADRO FX 1800M with 1 GB of RAM.  I also played with the NVIDIA Control Panel settings to no avail.
This gets very anoying, I need to get work done on these .pdf files and this issue slows me down, and irritates the hell out of me.
I thought my laptop is underpowered, but at this point I tend to believe it is an Acrobat issue.
    Please, any input appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello,
I am getting java error on screen rendering for all-11-otn4.js line no 12277 and 16073. The java script error I get is, *"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, open the script in debugger, or let the script continue"*. After this page stops responding, i have to close the browser and reopen it.
I have a table inside my screen. The table is added inside a af:panelCollection and have few toolbar buttons added inside the secondayToolbar facet. This error is commng due to the table toolbar buttons.
When i check the java scirpt using debugger, it stops at following java script at the bold line,

  • Small screen rendering bug

There is a very subtle rendering bug when overlapping text.
I'm not sure if this bug is worth fixing, as depending on how
Mars rendering is implemented, it could be very difficult to fix.
When overlapping to sections of text, the anti-aliased pixels
will compound between overlapping lapping lines. This leads to a
slightly "heavy" look at the point of overlap. This most affects
double-layered / slightly-offset text used for shadowing, as the
outlines of the two text areas match closely. It affects screen
    presentation and not print.
The easiest way to demonstrate this bug is to copy and paste
a text node multiple times into the SVG document. The rendered text
will darken each time, until eventually, the text has a hard,
jagged outline. The affect is easiest perceived with smaller font
text because the ratio of anti-aliased pixels to 100% "solid"
    pixels is greater.
The preferred behavior in this case would be to pick the
darkest color point for that pixel from among all the overlapping
anti-aliased pixels for each channel of color. The resulting
anti-aliased pixel layer would then need to be blended as normal
with any other overlapping layers... This could be tricky, but I
think it would increase the overall quality of screen
    rendering.

Unfortunately, this bug is pretty much beyond our control.
Pixel-level rendering issues like this are handled entirely within
the Acrobat core -- our plugin parses Mars SVG, converts it into
Acrobat-friendly data structures, and then hands everything 'over
the wall' for the Acrobat core to render.
We have some control over the renderer's low-level settings,
and I hope to exploit that in the next major release of the Mars
plugin to take care of some other pixel-level rough-rendering bugs
we've been seeing. However, this particular bug looks way too
subtle for us to address with the level of renderer access we're
    given ...

  • Performance Issues with Acrobat Reader 11.0.0.2 when secure mode is enabled

    Hello All,
We are experiencing sporadic issues with Acrobat 11.0.0.2 across our domain, users are reporting performance issues when opening PDF documents whether locally or from a network share.
We have found that turning off Secure Mode helps towards reducing this delay and in the cases it doesn't we are repairing the installation and/or reinstalling the application.
Due to the security implications we need to leave this turned on, I am wondering if anyone has encountered this issue and what steps were taken towards resolving it?
I also wonder whether the white list function in the new release 11.0.0.3 would be a solution to this issue?
    Kind Regards,
    Ryan McCarty

    No probelm, so....
We had no problems with Adobe Reader 9 and 10, we encountered the issues when upgrading to 11.0.0.2.
Initially we found that turning off the Protected Mode, helped but did not resolve the issue.
    We tried;
    1. Turn off protected mode - issue still present
    2. Clearing the recent file registry using the below registry path and deleting the keys underneath it.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\AVGeneral\cRecentFiles (this does not turn recent files off permanently). - works but needs clearing regularly
    3. Turning off welcome screen by creating -  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\FeatureLockDown\cWelcomeScreen - works to improve app open speed.
    4. uninstall/reinstall of 11.0.0.2 - works most likley due to the recent files being cleared.
    5. upgrade to 11.0.0.3 - issue still present
Following reboots the issue is still present.
When Adobe Reader is the only application open this issue is still present.
As mentioned I have no systems available which I could test this issue using 11.0.0.1 as we have fixed them, albeit temporarily using the reinstall method.
I am concious that this issue is going to reoccur once that cache (recent files) builds back up because the fix above (#2) is clearing the recent files cache NOT disabling it.

  • Images with Transparency Cause Rendering Bug in Acrobat

Try this at home: Export a file containing an image with transparency to PDF and open it in Acrobat (any platform, any recent version): the page containing the image will have all text rendered in what looks like bold or faux bold, depending on the font. The document looks fine in Preview and printed (even from Acrobat).
Can anyone else reproduce this? I get this behavior consistently.

Hi bdepaepe, I've had a look and I believe I have experienced the error you mean and solved it.
The reason this occurs some of the time, but not always is because the source code is not the same each time, as the adverts change every refresh. The error only happens when two of the < div> tags of class 'banneritem' which are on top of each other have a height of 84px each as opposed to 80px (although even if this is the case the rendering issue doesn't always happen).
The reason that some of the 'banneritem' < div> tags have a height of 84px is because inside them there is an <a> tag which contains an < img> tag, and the <a> tag has not been set to 'display: block;'. <a> tags are inline elements by default, so shouldn't be used to hold block level elements such as images unless the styles for the <a> tag include 'display: block;'.

  • Font rendering issue in Windows 7 with Aero

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and using Firefox 19.0.2. Aero is enabled, but the ClearType font smoothing is turned off.
At completely random intervals, text is rendered like this in Firefox:
    http://i49.tinypic.com/vgshv4.png
Sometimes it can be fixed as simply as hovering the mouse pointer over the affected parts. Sometimes I have to mark the text to get it rendered correctly, and sometimes it can be fixed by scrolling the page.
It can happen on any sites with any encoding, regardless of the font size and color, but I noticed it's extremely rarely happens with Japanese text. It never affects the whole page, only random parts of the on-screen text, and sometimes the interface text as well. Also worth mentioning that it never happens when Aero is turned off.
Is this a Firefox bug, or is something wrong with my system? Thanks in advance.

I had the same issue, uninstalling windows update kb2670838 fixed it for me. See also:

  • RX9800PRO 128MB Rendering Issues

I recently purchased the MSI RX9800Pro 128MB card from newegg.  On initial install of the catalyst 4.7 drivers everything was well.  I am upgrading from a Geforce 4 Ti4600, so it's should be quite an upgrade, yet I have 2 issues. (i did a full uninstall of the NVIDIA drivers before installing the new card).
    1. After about 30-45 minutes of playing a game, I get VERY wierd geometry errors.  Like suddenly walls are protuding outside into nowhere, textures are streched beyond what they should be, etc.  I have a screenshot of Starwars Galaxies if anyone needs an example.  This is the issue i care about.
    2. I don't really notice a speed increase, I don't have any benchmarking tools installed for before and after.  This issue could just be my imagination though. (you always think new purchases are ganna be a magical change   )
I'm running an Intel 2.4 Ghz, 1GB ram, on an Asus P4PE motherboard.  i'm using the onboard sound and ethernet.  I have a DVD-burner, floppy, and another DVD-ROM drive. 2 hard drives, 1 CPU fan, and 2 case fans, 2 fans are attached to the motherboard power, 1 fan is attached to PSU molex.  It's in an Antec case, with the Antec SL350 PSU.  (+5V/35A +12V/16A +3.3V/28A), output of 330 says the label.  I'm running Windows XP SP1, on the latest ATI 4.7 drivers.  Also i have the power connector from the card plugged into a dedicated molex out from the PSU. I hope that covers all the specs you'll need
So is this card defective or am i just demanding too much out of my PSU?  Would disconnecting the DVD's/floppy/fans help to determine this?
Thanks for any help in advance, i love this card thus far and would hate to have to return it!

I definitly dont have the time or patience to reformat, nor should i have to, nor do i think it will help.  I think it is related to heat issues, yet the card never gets hot as i think it could.  I can still touch the heatsinks, granted it's very hot, but it won't burn me.
But the reason i think it's related to heat is because games will be fine for some time while i play them, then suddenly i'll start to see a patch of messed up pixels all throughout the screen, then the geometry rendering issues start to appear on new loads of levels/characters.  I've even tried opening up the case and putting a external fan right on it, I still get the issues.
It's odd tho, nothing ever locks up, and 2d always works fine.  Might I have a defective card? i have done endless searches and cannot find one other person who has this same issue.

  • Captivate 6 rendering issues when publishing flash only

    Hello,
I wanted to ask if anybody else is experiencing the same issue as I am experiencing when I publish my captivate 6 projects:
    Issue:
Project consists of 46 slides.  No advanced actions.  Multiple rollover images and text captions are on several slides. software capture
When publishing to a USB or my desktop then previewing I get rendering issues and these vary from parts of the software that I am capturing not appearing at all to my master slide templates disappearing.  Whenever this happens I try publishing to flash 10 and ctick the force republish of all slides - sometimes this fixes the problem sometimes it does not.  So I try publishing to flash 9 force republish of all slides sometimes this fixes the problem sometimes it does not.  It is just so hit and miss I have to publish 4 to 5 times before I finally am successful.  So of course this is extremely frustrating when I have to make changes to the project and republish.
Also notice that viewing in web browser has the same issue.
Think I am going to have to go back to captivate 5.5, which is such a shame as I really love some of the new features in 6.
Does anybody have any ideas as to why this may be happening?
I have attached two screen dumps - one where the screen is rendered poorly and the other where I have crossed all of my fingers and toes and republished and the screen has been rendered correctly:
    Thanks
    Ali

    Hello Sankaram,
I am experiencing the same problem as Ali, where my master slide randomly disappears in my published project. I tried the options you listed above. I also deselected "Use Master Slide Background" and "Project Background" on each slide.
Also, I have a button on each slide (next button to move through the slides) and sometimes disappears as well. However, I can still click in that region where it should be visible, and it will progress to the next slide.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Jackie

  • T400s Screen Color Issue

Anyone have a color-mismatch issue?  T400s screen is at factory default but the colors are definitely different from desktop screen rendering.  Have tested photographs on different screens and the T400s is much cooler (less red).  Also, hypertext links are a lighter blue on the T400s vs. more blue/purple on the desktop monitor.  This has been tested on a Samsung desktop monitor, a MacPro laptop, a Dell desktop monitor.  All are the same except for the T400s.
    Any comments are appreciated!

  • IPad Game Rendering Issues

I just downloaded Infinity Blade today, and about 10 minutes into the game, I realized my character and any opponents I faced have rendering issues. Their shading an color is of, and the colors sometimes flicker. This happens in every single video, battle and screen. I've restarted the iPad three times, and completely shut down the game & other apps. I also noticed that when I turned the iPad back on, the screen flickered right before showing the lock screen. What should I do? Is this a problem with the A5 processor?

Try a reset of the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Outlook 2013: Memory smudge, or screen rendering problems due to laggy?

    Hi,
I am observing a strange occurrence among some of my users with Outlook 2013. When they open a few new emails, whether they minimize or switch to another emails to read, there is some portion of the previous emails left behind. It is like a digital
smudge of the previous screen left hanging there. It will go off after awhile
This guy has the same issue as me:

I don't have a screenshot yet, but I was wondering
if this is due to lack of memory.
    Thanks.

The answer given in the link you referenced is the most likely solution to your issue as it is often caused by the graphics card driver.
Make sure you have the latest driver installed and if that doesn't solve it, disable the hardware graphics acceleration.
