Techinical question re FUP

I've been reading a previous post (which is now locked) regarding the 100GB useage limit. In this the moderators have mentioned some form of online useage monitor - which I have to search for myself.
In my household we have 4 computers (occasionally 5 depending on work needs), an Xbox360, Nintendo Wii an Ipod touch or 2 and now a TV which is connected directly for youtube/iplayer/internet etc. Oh I also believe that there is one of those PSP thingys which only has downloadable games.
Unfortunately, I have been unable to find any software that monitors useage across all of these devices and, from a purely technical assistance point of view, would be grateful if anyone could advise what I could use as a monitor.
Many thanks.

In general both the xbox and the Wii will not use too much bandwidth even if you use multiplayer on each of them.
Same goes for the Ipods, they will use a limited amount of data.
It would maily depend on your computers and how heavy each of the users are on all the computers, this would include your TV.
If all the computers use youtube regularly and stream some data then it would be possible to get upto the 100gb, but its still unlikely.
You would most likely get to around 60Gb or so.
To get above that means you would be streaming High Def content most of the time (1080i and above) youtube 720P files are not too big.
I have a youtube channel and put 720p videos up regularly.

  • Questions on FUP

    Hello,
I am utilising BT Total Broadband Option 3 and would like to know the details of the Fair Usage Policy. I am aware that it was 300GB, what I am looking for clarification on is whether the FUP has totally been removed for my package, as I have read somewhere that it was removed in April? I just wanted to make sure.
    Regards,

    Hi Sentrix and welcome,
    Yes it's been removed. Have a read - http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-Speed-Connection-Issues/BT-TO-SCRAP-300GB-LIMIT/m-p/191217#M76393

Q How do you convert Basic cubes to Transactional Cubes?
Q Diffrence between version Bw3.5 with other older version like BW 3.0, 2.1
Q what is Rollup, why we use it? (i Answered this one but not staisfactory accrding to the interviewer)
Ans To apply newly loaded data to aggregates you use rollup. You can maitain aggreegates in rollup.

  • Loading local content using AJAX in AIR

    Hello All,
I've got a techinical question regarding loading local html5/Css/JS files into AIR's HTMLComponent. I'm very much aware that Safari's webkit implementation can handle this effectively and AIR's Webkit Implementation boasts about having nearly the same implementation as Safari's, but there still is a sanbox violation when trying to load files locally with AIR using AJAX from the HTML component. Is there a work around for this?
One of the original ideas behind AIR was to lower the security violations between web applications and local files to make them feel more desktop-like so it really doesnt make sense if a component used to display webpages contain such restrictions.
Any form of help or advice would be very much appreciated

You don't want to use FileReference in AIR for what you are
doing. Check the documentation for the mx.controls.FileSystemTree.
There are actually a handful of AIR-specific controls for accessing
the file system. There isn't a "File Open" dialog per se; you can
build your own out of the controls given. I will say that the
controls will have the flavor of the OS (so on a Mac the controls
will behave similarly to the way a Mac accessses and browses for
    files).

  • Best Location for Wireless Router in 2 Story House

Hello. There was a similar post to this before, but it didn't quite address my concern. I live in a two story house. The router is currently placed in one half of the first floor. I am connected to with my dekstop wirelessly via an extended-range usb adapter. Everything else held equal, is it better to place the router in the highest location possible? In other words, am I more likely to get better reception anywhere in the house if I place the router upstairs (and as close to the center of the house as possible)? Most of the people in my house use their laptops downstairs while I am stuck upstairs with my desktop and wireless adapter getting a decent but not entirely desirable connection (it was very low and would turn off randomly, but I changed the router channel to 11 and now it seems to be consistent but at around 3 to 4 out of what seems to be 10 bars. Ideally, since I like to game and desire the highest speed, I would set up the router via ethernet to my pc upstairs while putting it in a location that will not severely limit the connection downstairs... that is why I ask if it is better to have the router upstairs; if it is, then I will have all the justification I need to try to reposition it.
Also, as something of a more techinical question. How does the radio broadcast from the wireless routers work? Does the signal shoot up and out from the antenna tips? Can it shoot down? Even if it shoots up, is it still better to have it in a higher location?
Sorry for the rambling, but I would appreciate any input. Thanks.

Your router will broadcast the signals in all directions(not just upstair or downstairs)...You should place your router in the center of your house...
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. In rare cases, Bluetooth devices can interfere. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers. The antenna (if external) should be vertical...

  • Method of Requesting\Approving Transports

    Hello,
Sorry for my simple (non-techinal) question. I was wondering what other companies are using for Change Requests for SAP Transports and what they are happy with. What software they are using for the Request and Approval process of SAP transports? We have used many diffferent types of help desk software which we have never been thrilled with. We do use Solution Manager but not for Transport Requesting/Approvals. Do many of you use Solution Manager or CRM for requesting transports changes or do most use other Help Desk software outside of SAP? What are advantages of using Solution Manager which I imagine there are many.

I really depends very much on how you are set up.
For small systems an Access MDB works well combined with organizational procedures. This is for dummies...
In HR, Treasury and other types of systems, transport management is almost daily in the team and you can easily add an ABAP workflow to it as well.
For complex SLD landscapes, components and business function management, going for a SolMan is probably the best bet IMO.
    Cheers,
    Julius

  • FUP change question - overlimit on Infinity Option...

I heard from @BT_infinity on twitter that the FUP on Option 2 is now
     - a 300Gb fair use limit
     - 30 day restriction if hit
     - restriction during peak hours
     - THE NEW BIT --- restricted speed is 4 Mbps *not* 1 Mbs
Can anyone confirm this change. If so I'm getting more tempted since my current speed is only 4 Mbps (and hitting the limit isn't that likely)

  • Please, help a newbie:  Question about animating expanding containers

    Hi All,
    Short Version of my Question:
I'm making a media player that needs to have an animation for panels sliding up and down and left and right, and the method I've been using to do this performs far slower than the speed I believe is possible, and required. What is a fast way to make a high performance animation for such an application?
    Details:
So far, to do the animation, I've been using JSplitPanes and changing the position of the divider in a loop and calling paintImmediately or paintDirtyRegion like so:
    public void animateDividerLocation( JSplitPane j, int to, int direction) {
    for(int i=j.getDividerLocation(); i>=to; i-=JUMP_SIZE) {
    j.setDividerLocation(i);
    j.validate();
    j.paintImmediately(0, 0, j.getWidth(), j.getHeight());
The validate and paintImmediately calls have been necessary to see any changes while the loop is going. I.e., if those calls are left out, the components appear to just skip right to where they were supposed to animate to, without having been animated at all.
The animation requirement is pretty simple. Basically, the application looks like it has 3 panels. One on the right, one on the left, and a toolbar at the bottom. The animation just needs to make the panels expand and contract.
Currenly, the animation only gets about, say, 4 frames a second on the 800 MHz Transmeta Crusoe processor, 114 MB Ram, Windows 2000 machine I must use (to approximate the performance of the processor I'll be using, which will run embedded Linux), even though I've taken most of the visible components out of the JPanels during the animation. I don't think this has to do with RAM reaching capacity, as the harddrive light does not light up often. Even if this were the case, the animation goes also goes slow (about 13 frames a second) on my 3 GHz P4 Windows XP if I keeps some JButtons, images etc., inside the JPanels. I get about 50 frames/sec on my 3 GHz P4, if I take most of the JButtons out, as I do for the 800 MHz processor. This is sufficient to animate the panels 400 pixels across the screen at 20 pixels per jump, but it isn't fast or smooth enough to animate across 400 pixels moving at 4 pixel jumps. I know 50 frames/sec is generally considered fast, but in this case, there is hardly anything changing on the screen (hardly any dirty pixels per new frame) and so I'd expect there to be some way to make the animation go much faster and smoother, since I've seen games and other application do much more much faster and much smoother.
I'm hoping someone can suggest a different, faster way to do the animation I require. Perhaps using the JSplitPane trick is not a good idea in terms of performance. Perhaps there are some tricks I can apply to my JSplitPane trick?
I haven't been using any fancy tricks - no double buffering, volatile images, canvas or other animation speed techniques. I haven't ever used any of those things as I'm fairly new to Swing and the 2D API. Actually I've read somewhere that Swing does double buffering without being told to, if I understood what I read. Is doing double buffering explicitly still required? And, if I do need to use double buffering or canvas or volatile images or anything else, I'm not sure how I would apply those techiniques to my problem, since I'm not animating a static image around the screen, but rather a set of containers (JSplitPanes and JPanels, mostly) and components (mostly JButtons) that often get re-adjusted or expanded as they are being animated. Do I need to get the Graphics object of the top container (would that contain the graphics objects for all the contained components?) and then double buffer, volatile image it, do the animation on a canvas, or something like that? Or what?
Thanks you SO much for any help!
    Cortar
    Related Issues(?) (Secondary concerns):
Although there are only three main panels, the actual number of GUI components I'm using, during the time of animation, is about 20 JPanels/JSplitPanes and 10 JButtons. Among the JPanels and the JSplitPanes, only a few JPanels are set to visible. I, for one, don't think this higher number of components is what is slowing me down, as I've tried taking out some components on my 3GHz machine and it didn't seem to affect performance much, if any. Am I wrong? Will minimizing components be among the necessary steps towards better performance?
Anyhow, the total number of JContainers that the application creates (mostly JPanels) is perhaps less than 100, and the total number of JComponents created (mostly JButtons and ImageIcons) is less than 200. The application somehow manages to use up 50 MBs RAM. Why? Without looking at the code, can anyone offer a FAQ type of answer to this?

You can comment out the lines that add buttons to the panels to see the behavior with empty panels.

  • Questions about IDoc to file scenario

I 'm confused, and have a few questions:
1, we need to define a product for it at least  , assign it to either of the systems?
2, we don't have to configure an IDoc communication channel, do we?
3, does the receiver system (file/ftp) need a logical system? and define it by t-code BD54, in XI or R/3?
4, at least define techinical system and business system for R/3?
Can you explain the sld configuration to me ?
    thanks a lot.

    Hi,
,1) we need to define a product for it at least , assign it to either of the systems?
Ans: Yes we need to define a product.
2, we don't have to configure an IDoc communication channel, do we?
Ans: Sender agreement and Sender IDOC communication  channel is not required as IDOC adapter
            resides on ABAP stack.
3, does the receiver system (file/ftp) need a logical system? and define it by t-code BD54, in XI or R/3?
Ans: For third party system from ID create the business system and use that Business system for File or
            FTP system.
    Business System.
1.Goto Business Landscape->New Business System->Name the business system.
    2. Choose the technical system that needs to be attached->WebAS ABAP->Technical System Name.
Business System have an entry in the SLD and Buiness Service do not.
Business Systems are used when you are sending data to and from an R3 system and can be of ABAP, JAVA and Third Party Types.
Business System is a logical representation of a Technical System.
Business Service is a abstract representation of a System. For instance, www.google.com have a several system working together and IPs of this machines change eventually. When we use a Business Services like google we reference a computer that we don't know the phisical implementation.
4, at least define techinical system and business system for R/3?
    Technical System
In SLD, click on technical landscape->New Technical System->WebAS ABAP.
Ans: Yes : Technical system is a phisical machine, it have a IP. Can be a BBDD, ERP, J2EE ......... a Business System is a logical term that we use into the Business Scenarios and represent these Technical System that we had created.
Can you explain the sld configuration to me ?
SLD is the place where u can define systems that are existing in ur landscape. using these systems u can transfer data from one system to another using PI.

  • Changes to Broadband Services - Billing Question

"Monthly usage limit – If you want to use more than the monthly usage allowance included in your broadband package, from 1 November 2010 additional usage will be charged at 5GB for £5 (instead of 1GB for £1)."
Does this mean that if you only go a little over your usage allowance you'll be charged £5.00 as you've used part of 5Gb, or that you won't be charged until a full 5Gb have been used?
Need an Admin response here please.

there are numerous posts on here looking for clarification.  If you go over the 10gb limit then it is £5 whether 1gb or 5gb.  Options 2 and 3 had the limits increased - option 2 up to 40gb and the FUP for 3 is now 300gb

  • Questions bout updates

Hi, I have a question, I am getting annoyed over my Laptops constant updating. Every second day its telling me to that there are updates and to log in to get them updated, and each update takes at least an hour in a half to two hours, because I Have to click up date at least six times before its fully updated. this is annoying and I really dont see why it needs to update that often. I have never seen a PC update that much or for that long ever. This has just started happening the past two weeks, before that it would update once a week and take up to two hours with six restarts and that was way too much and too long I thought. HELP whats going on with this, and how can I stop it. its ridiculous.  Also....I do not like the they have removed the contact techinical online support chat option in the HP help.

    Hi,
Sounds like those updates failed elsewhere that why they come back again and again. Now please try:
    (a) Hold down Win key then press Q,
    (b) Type Windows Update in Search box then open Check for updates,
    (c) Please update one at a time to see which one failed
It's a pain but Windows 8 and 8.1 do not give much information about Update history like Windows 7 or Windows 10. You can change do not use auto update and manually check say once a week or Choose other update options.

  • A question about lightweight component.

I read a definition about lightweight component of swing:
A lightweight component is one that "borrows" the screen resource of an ancestor (which means it has no native resource of its own -- so it's "lighter").
I don't understand what the specific resource a lightweight component borrows from its ancestor?

I don't understand what the specific resource a lightweight component borrows from its ancestor? Its not important that you do understand this to program using Swing.
If you have a programming problem where this is causing a problem then post a question.
There are several tutorials on this site as well as techinical articles. Search the site and do your own research if this if vital for you to know.

  • Have BT Updated their FUP?

Hi guys, I've just checked out the FUP page on the BT website: Click Here
"BT continuously monitors network performance and reduces the speed available to very heavy users (typically less than 1 per cent of all customers) during a given month to ensure that the service received by other customers is not impacted through extremely heavy usage by a minority of people.
Customers who are classified as very heavy users will experience significantly reduced speed at peak times (typically 5pm-midnight every day but these times may change depending on the demand on the network) for a period of 30 days, or for as long as very heavy use continues. This applies to customers on all Options.
BT Total Broadband Option 3 and BT Infinity Option 2 allow unlimited downloads and uploads within the monthly rental price, so customers on these products will not be charged for over-use. However, this does not preclude BT from reducing your speed if you are a heavy user in order to protect the experience for the rest of our customers.
We may need to vary the policy from time to time to ensure the best possible experience for all our customers. This site will always be kept up to date with the latest information."
Does this mean that we can download as much as we like now out of peak times or does the "BT continuously monitors network performance and reduces the speed available to very heavy users (typically less than 1 per cent of all customers) during a given month to ensure that the service received by other customers is not impacted through extremely heavy usage by a minority of people." Contradict that?

It reads to me that all usage is measured, but that restrictions for heavy users are only put in place during peak hours. Just like it's always said, I think.

  • BT total broadband option 3 general questions

Potential new customer here but got some questions after speaking to BT customer services who have totally confused me so not exactly a good start.
I am looking at bt total broadband option 3 for 19.99 a month for 3 months and 27.99 there after and would love it if someone could clarify the following.
    1. Does this package really come with unlimited wifi (openzone, fon) as BT customer services told me this is extra?
    2. If I take out the mobile broadband option with 1gb is that a one time offer or do I get 1gb free each month?
    3. If I ever go over the FUP of 300gb is it true my broadband will be throttled for 30 days?
Hopefully someone can clarify these questions for me.

    Hi,
I received an email today informing i have 'spent more than £10 on my account since my last bill' so i decided to check what the hell was going on as i have no idea what this could be.
So i look at my phone charges and they are worth £4.24, i thne checked my broadband usage monitor and its not over the 40gb limit, its under half way. However on my account it says there is a £20 FUP charge for 20gb!
How can there be a £20 charge this month when i havent gone over, i paid last months bill in full so can someone please tell me whats going on?
The last time a warning about usage was sent out it was on the 22/3/13 and informed me of a charge that was paid on a previous bill, so why is there a FUP charge now for 20gb shortly after i paid my bill when i have not gone over my usage limit since?

Current usage is irrelevant? Then what is the point of it?
Im basing this off of billing cycle dates that i've paid for and what i've used since.
Ok my previous billing cycle runs from 19/2 to the 18/3 - i paid the bill for that period on the 19/3
My billing area says: usage since March 19th (the date i payed my last bill) £24.24 (£20 of it is a FUP charge)
Yet with thre FUP charge it says:
    All usage from 01 Mar 13 to 12 Apr 13: £20.000
I paid a bill that covered up to the 18/3 and since then have not gone over usage so why is there a charge for fair usage now?
I'll contact support but if anyone has a good reason for this i'd like to hear it.
the current usage is irrelevant for the current charge a usage is calendar months so from 1st April whereas the charge you have incurred will related to the last usage period which ended on 31 March
usage is calendar months but your billing period is as you have said totally different
