TechMon in several clients

Hi,
Does anyone have any experience in setting up technical monitoring in multiple clients in one SolMan?
We have a partner that implemented monitoring in client 100, but they want to see less then we do.
So we want to setup monitoring for ourselves in an additional client (i.e. 200).
Will that provide any complication, or do you expect it to run smoothly?

Unfortunelty i never did that and i dont have system now to check, butI feel it will be smooth since we also define the Clients configuration Seperatly in Manage system configure and have RFC assigned and activated seperately and also the Agent logic.
But i am thinking load if its just a Alerts or the Graphs , then can we not twick a bit in Template managent where we can go to Alert Metric level and restrict the alert trigered rather then creating the setup for other client it self, So restrict alerts to certain ppl or groups and allow to some? may be by going in CONFIGURE MANAGED OBJECT.
Not sure the info given is helpful for you but just thought will leave my thoughts anyways.

i have an aplication that consist in an waveforms analizer, with a main front panel and few sub panels, where data comes from *.tdms files in pc memory.
I want to develope a remote monitored and controled project that could be used by few clients simultaneus, where they can load their own files in to the programm. It´s possible to run more than one instance of the VI at the same time.
i´m checking the WEB UI Builder specifications, but i´m not sure if this is possible.

Hi, Ángeniero,
it is possible to control an application running on a server by several client computers simultaneously. There are two factors: licenses and reentrant execution. You can read it in the following document:

As regards reentrant execution, this functionality is added from LabVIEW 8.2 and higher, as you can see in this parragraph:
"LabVIEW 8.20 introduced Reentrant Remote Front Panels which allow multiple users to simultaneously control a VI remotely. For more information on this reentrant functionality, see the Web Event in the related links section."
All you have to do is marking your VIs as reentrant (File >> VI Properties >> Categoty: Execution). Every client computer will access to a different copy of the VI located on the server memory, so client computers can manage different data in spite of the fact that the server application is the same. Publishing Serial data from CFP to several clients

Does anyone know how I can share information I am getting off of one of
the RS 232 ports on the CFP 2020 with several clients. Since my
application is embedded in order to communicate with the serial ports I
can only seem to access the embedded VI one client at a time.
How can I share this info?

Datasocket is very simple way to share information between several LabView applications, running on PCs or (c)FP controllers.

Second way is to run on the cFP 2020 a stand alone .exe file which will read the data from RS232 device, and publish it to many LV clients , see this link:

Third, you can also use TCP/IP read / write commands to build your communication with any LV applications.
Surely, all the PCs and controllers should be connected on a same subnet.

Time synchronisation (between several clients)

I am trying to build a test suite to make some performance measurements. I need some way of getting several clients (say 10-100) to synchronise with each other and begin performing operations against a server simultaneously (or as near as possible).
Can anyone help please??? I have some Java experience with RMI, which I think will be a part of the solution, but I don't know how to time sync.

Setup all the clients to use Network Time Protocol
(NTP) (this has nothing to do with java).
And if you search the forums you will find someone who was promoting their product to do something like this a while ago. You will however also find many free implementations on the internet.

Running a single program on several clients

Hi,
I'm making a program which is going to be put on a server. The users will have this server mapped as a network drive (say, P:). For the user to run the program, she/he will run a bat-file (which sets 'PATH' to include JRE (which is also on the server) and starts the program with javaw).
The program takes input from the user (both by reading from user-specified file(s) and by getting data from a JTable edited by the user), generates information in a (temp) file, may save the file, and may send the file to another server.
Storing of files is done on each user's own computer and not on the server (specifying "C:\TEMP" places the file on the computer running the program, not on the server).
My question is this:
When several users run the program at the same time, how will the program act?
What happens if a couple (or more) users try to do the same thing at the same time, i.e. access the same methods at the same time? (For example generate XML from the table or send the generated file.)
I've tried 'playing server' by sharing my program on the internal network and running it on other computers, and it all seems to be working well.
Is there something I should be aware of?
Should I use Threads and/or synchronization?

There is nothing in the above discussion that suggests that a client server architecture is in use.
There is a computer A which has application code. And a computer B where the code runs. The fact that there is two computers is irrelevant to the question. From the point of view of this architecture the code just a well live on computer B. It makes no difference.
A JTable is a GUI component. Even in a client server architecture a JTable will ALWAYS be independent for every client.
Now the resources that a JTable displays might not be independent but nothing in the above points out that any resources, at all, are shared.
Now if there WAS a server component then that would mean there was an application RUNNING on the server. That is not the same as the application code being stored there.
Now there might be a shared resource in the above when the OP says "send the file to another server." But that is the only possibility of a shared component (as server application.)
Presumably if the OP has a server application (which is NOT what is being discussed here) then they need to provide more information about that. The client, as it is, does not do anything that involves shared resources.

Using Info@ to distribute or forward to several clients

Yes, and you have several options to do this:
1) Get a second 802.11 AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) and reconfigure it to extend the wireless range of the existing one. In turn, you can connect the wired devices to the 2nd AEBSn.
2) Get a 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) & an Ethernet switch. Configure the AXn as a ProxySTA and connect the Ethernet switch to the AXn's Ethernet port. In turn, connect the wired devices to the Ethernet switch.

Several clients in CRM PCUI. Problems reusing the same iView for ValueHelp

Hi, all:
We are implementing a new scenario with PCUI (based on Case Management) and using the client number 400.
The problem is that this is the second scenario because there is an already customized scenario using client 200 of the CRM server and the same EP.
These are the symptoms:
a) Launching the application from the SAP_GUI (like a CRM BSP Application) the main screen and the value helps (pop-up windows) are working correctly.
b) Launching the application from a newly create BSP iView, the main screen appears correctly; but the pop-up windows are not working. These are the issues i have seen:
1.- The system object with the system alias SAP_CRM points to client 200.
2.- The iView that is called when the value help is clicked has the value SAP_CRM as the system alias. And it is accessing client 200 even thought the URL parameter sap-client=400 is passed to it.
I tried a workaround copying standard iView located in:
pcd:portal_content/com.sap.pct/specialist/com.sap.pct.crm/com.sap.pct.crm.roles/com.sap.pct.crm.core.defaultservices/com.sap.pct.crm.core.valuehelp
to another location in Portal Content and changing the parameter system alias to SAP_CRM_400 (which is a correct system object pointing to client 400). But i don't know how to configure the search to use this iview instead of the standard one.
Can anyone help me with this workaround or with other solution to this problem?

How to connect several clients to a server?

Hi, i'm currently developing a client server based application. The problem i'm facing now is that i can only add one client. But i want to add every client that connects to the server. Do i need to assign each input and output stream to each connected clients?how do i do that? and will it be possible to add the connected client's name to a JList?

Several clients showing up in admin console w/ SCEP disabled

I've got jut over 40 computers that show up in the SCCM admin console as having SCEP disabled, but if I log into those machines and check, SCEP is running just fine.
How do I get them to report the proper state back to the site server?

Please check the Endpoint Protection policy in Client Settings to see if the policy allow SCCM to manage SCEP clients on these machines. If the management of SCEP clients have been allowed by policy, you could try to set "Manage Endpoint Protection
client on client computers" to NO, refresh the machine policy on these clients. Wait for a while, set it to Yes, refresh the machine policy.

One DPS Suscription for several Clients?

Hello all,
After I read many topics related to Dps Subscriptions and so on. I still have two more questions which are unclear.
Is it possible to have different Multi-folio apps for clients using only one subscription? For example, I have one Professional DPS subscription and 3 Clients, can DPS give me customized Multi-Folio apps for each of the 3 Clients?
The second question is related more about the payment system which Abobe uses.
If a Client that has Multi-Folio app deployed and has one magazine edition available for download, how can the Client take payment for such Magazine/edition download even if the download of the Multi-Folio App was given for free or not? To put it in another way, does the Multi-Folio app have a payment mechanism through which the Content owners (Clients) can receive money for their magazines? What is the complete flow for this?

You can have as many as want. Besides the DPS Pro or Enterprise license cost, you will have to pay per download to Adobe and 30% of your sales to Apple.
All multi-folio apps are capable of in app purchase and subscriptions.

Master Data modeling with data from several source clients

Hi people,
We have a modeling issue at hand..
From several R/3 sources, separated as Clients (eg. client 100, 101, 102 etc.) we will load data (transactional and Master Data) to one BW system.
Now, I am wondering what is the best way to avoid Master Data issues here, when data can be different for the same objects in the various source systems (clients)
Example:
In source client 100, 0MATERIAL 1000 = PLASTIC
In source client 101, 0MATERIAL 1000 = WOOD
I have tried to understand how compounding with 0SOURCESYSTEM works, but I can't see how that will work for us, since we may have several clients on the same sourcesystem (e.g. client 100 and 101 can be on the same system). This would not help me separate the masterdata.
- Does anyone have experience with this they could share?
- Is it a possibility to add 0LOGSYS or something to our InfoObjects that we will load?
- Do we then add the InfoObject to the cube in the end?
Any inputs that can clarify this is appreciated. Points awarded ofcourse!

Donot go with one server to define it as a source system .I mean ,Even though you have only one R/3 server . you have 3 clients in it. So go with Clients to define the source systems.
So in BIW You must have 3 different source systems in Source system tree. Am I irght?
So all of them has different logical system names.
So use 0LOGSYS as compounding characterstic.

VPN Client and Terminal Server

We have several clients that allow us to vpn into their systems and it has come to the point that we are getting software incompatabilities. What I am trying to do is set up "compatable" connections on a Terminal server box and let our people access this from their workstations. The problem is when the acuall connection thru the vpn client is made they loose connection to the terminal server. I have tried putting in 2 nic's into the terminal server and am able to allocate one for the terminal server but can not find a way to allocate the other to the VPN CLient. Is this possable or is there another way to accomplish this?

What I have is one machine with 2 nic's
NIC #1 = Terminal Server Access (local lan only) Locked in via registry settings to use ONLY this NIC
NIC #2 = I would like to "LOCK" the Client software to use ONLY this nic (has a dynamic IP for local lan and access to the Inet via a router.
Problem: When you connect to the T-Server all is fine UNTIL you start up the client software to access our clients systems via the web connection to the T-Server on the local side stops and gives the appearance of a frozen screen.
manualy disconnect person from the T-Server and kill the cisco client software then you can re-connect to the T-Server (and it all starts over again)
The Cisco software acualy makes the connection to our clients system but we can not tell because it want BOTH the NIC's for itself and stops access via NIC#1 to the T-Server.

Open Directory conection for Client inconsistant

Hi,
Been working setting up several labs during the summer and have come across a new problem. When joining the computers to Open Directory the comptuers connect to the Replica and are added to the Open Directory list. However, at the login screen the signal for the status of the directory connection keeps changing from Green to Yellow and never activates my preferences for the computer.
Anybody run into this before or have seen a solution to this? Have tried to connect to other replicas as well as the master and have run into the same issue.

Ok, I got it.
But what if I want the OD user to have some configuration data on the local client?
Let me explain that a bit better. The configuration I would like for my network and users is as follows: the server works only as an authentication server, I do not want roaming profiles or homes directory on the server; I just want the server to authenticate users when they log in to several client machines amongst the lan.
For documents sharing, in fact, I much rather prefer using Dropbox, which allows my users to share on a WAN-instead-of-LAN basis.
But a home local directory is needed for OD users to keep libraries, preferences files and so on.
Back to the old Windows server (PDC) time, I used the server as a name server authentication only, still the client created a local profile for the user of the server.
Does OD works this way too or am I missing something?

How do I find the MAC address of a CLIENT ACCESS POINT created from the FILE SERVICES ROLE

I have several Client Access Points created within the clustered File Services Role. The only way I seem to be able to determine the MAC address of each of these, is by visiting the DHCP server.
Does anyone know if there is a way of reporting on this from the server (active node) itself? I have tried ipconfig all, checked the properties of the CAP in the FCS console etc.

As far as I know there have no original option for query all the CAP MAC address, may you can create a PowerShell command then filter the configuration result, you can ask

Client-Server - SOA.... Is it really a transition or a big development ?

In all sources related to SOA/ESA by SAP, it is said that, transitioning from Client-Server Arch(CSA) to SOA is the same as transitioning from Mainframe systems to Client-Server Arch.
If we think about Mainframe and CSA, it is obvious that there had been big differences in that transition. Such as, the INTELLIGENT CLIENT concept had appeared to replace the DUMMY CLIENTS, so this had changed the way of IT Business. There would be a main application providing several functionalities(server) and other applications which want to use those functionalities (clients) would connect to the server using some functionalities on its own (that means a client appliction should also have some functionalities in order to at least connect to the server, so that made them different from the DUMMY clients of the mainframe era)
Now, when I look at the differences between SOA and CSA, I cannot see that incompareble differences.Why ? Let me explain :
- One of the most important differences between SOA and CSA is, SOA is vendor and platform independent, so that any application can call any applications functionality as long as they are using Web Services. That is true. But the question arises here : It is still the case that someone is calling some others' functionalities (services), so there is still a client/server mentality, isn't there and We will still be using several client/server programming languages in order to realize the main functionality of the web services but this will be transparent to the user and the integration. The main difference is, SOA is vendor and platform independent. But I don't think this can be commented as a missing feature of CSA. Because the aim of CSA was to make the clients more intelligent and not to make them vendor/platform independent. And also architectures like CORBA and DCOM have also tried to achieve that independency (even though they have restrictions compared to Web Services, one of the main reasons for this is using Web as a transport/communication protocol) but they are still treated as some extensions on top of CSA because they are using CSA beneath. But if we compare Mainframes and CSA, even though I haven't seen manframe ages, I think it is clear that CSA does not use any architectural functionality of Mainframes. They are completely different.. But is SOA and CSA completely different ?
I agree with all reasons why today business needs sth more agile, more flexible and it is becoming clearer day by day that SOA and Web Services provides this environment, BUT, I still cannot make it clear, WHY it is accepted as a transition from CSA and why it is not treated as a big development over CSA while using the main features of it.

Good point..Actually those are the things clearly known but it becomes a bit confusing to build clear sentences when it comes to declare the differences. Anyway, here are my additions :
- Mainframes were centralized systems which had their own hardware architecture as well. All processes/applications were running on 1 central DB/system and everyone in the company had to use the same functionality and interface.
- In time, as a result of business demand, people needed different functionalities/applications regarding different business needs. This could either be done by extending the higly-costed big mainframe systems/softwares OR a new approach had to be developed in order to solve those problems. At this point, (thanks to IBM,Macintosh and Xerox) PC and ethernet concepts had emerged. That was a completely different hardware architecture which allowed less costly systems and also distributing the process load and/or applications to different systems in one landscape (app servers, intelligent clients - 2 tier, 3- tier arch.). Thus, while those were happening on harware side, new communication and programming models/languages emerged on software side. As a result, people started using different applications on different systems according to their needs and thus an efficient solution had been provided to the business need (described above).
To criticise, this was really a big transition. Not only software concepts but also hardware concepts are also changed drastically. Actually, it is not wrong if we say, developments on the hardware side, allowed changes on the software side
- What happened next ? Companies started using so many different applications by different vendors with different business logic and programming models (thanks to CSA). But in times, this has emerged the biggest problem of the CSA era : Integration.
We all know the rest. "Web Services" concept emerged with SOA as well. So that, the boundaries between the systems began to disappear.
So, is this a transition ? Well, yes it is.. The point that made it confusing (at least for me) is that this time there is no hardware transition (yet) but only a transition in software side. But I still insist that the IT transition during Mainframe->CSA was like a revolution (forget what you've left behind) but from CSA to SOA; it is more likely to be an evolution (the next best thing)
