Technical Communication Suite Download

I have made several attempts (since Jan. 15) to receive the trial copy of TCS.  Has anyone received the trail DVD?  I have made serveral calls to Adobe and no one there seems to understand anything.  I have filled out requests to receive the trial DVD and still nothing.  I'm sure this is something we will purchase, but I would like to try it fist.  Just curious if anyone has had similar problems.  Thanks

Try this site. It's an official link with Adobe.
http://www.runaware.com/clients/adobe/techsuite/
You can run TCS on their servers so no installation required.
You can download it.
You can order the DVD. - Maybe they deliver it.
If you do install, don't do so on a machine with RoboHelp already loaded.

Does the Technical Communication Suite have an installation application similar to the Creative Cloud Suite? If so, how do I get it? If not, how do I upgrade from version 4?
Thank you.

Not sure what CCS has that you’re referring to, but TCS5 is out and can be installed via subscription or downloaded installer.

• Adobe Presenter in Technical Communications Suite 5?

Is Adobe Presenter 9 included in Technical Communications Suite 5? I just downloaded a trial version of Tech Comm Suite 5, but did not receive Adobe Presenter (only Adobe Presenter Video Creator).

Yes, Adobe Presenter 9 is a part of Technical Communication Suite.
Have you ever install Adobe Presenter 9 on your machine ?
Please check the version of your Microsoft PowerPoint.?
Please check this document for tech specs and installation instructions.

• Adobe RoboHelp 7 and the Adobe Technical Communication Suite have just been posted

Hi, folks.
The long-awaited Adobe RoboHelp 7 and the Adobe Technical
Communications Suite have just been posted on the Adobe website.
There are 30-day Trial versions that can be downloaded here:
http://www.adobe.com/ap/products/robohelp/
Follow the link that says "Download the trial". After you
sign in, you can download either the RoboHelp 7 standalone release,
or the Technical Communications Suite which contains these
integrated products: RoboHelp 7, FrameMaker 8, Adobe Captivate 3
and Acrobat 3D.
If you or members of your team use both RoboHelp and
FrameMaker, I'd strongly advise you take a look at Tech Comm Suite.
It's more than simply a "bundle:" of products. There is real
integration among the apps. Here are details:
http://www.adobe.com/ap/products/technicalcommunicationsuite/
For some screenshots and information, check out Peter
Grainge's website
http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/rh7/rh7.htm
I will also be posting some Adobe Captivate movies of the new
interface on my website in the next day or two.
http://www.hypertexas.com
You can also read more on the Adobe Tech Comm Blog
http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/technical_communication/
These are exciting times. Two releases in one year! I don't
think there's any doubt about Adobe's committment to RoboHelp now
Thanx,
John

The first thing I looked at was the upgrade price, which is I
think is pretty reasonable. I may not have made it clear in my
other post that I installed the RH7 trial with RH6 still installed.
I'm pretty sure management will spring for an upgrade, and I don't
intend to use RH6 simultaneously at that point--only while I'm
doing the trial.
The main thing I'm checking out is the double-byte character
support. One complaint I have there is that in HTML view, Japanese
characters are showing as squares. If I open the same topic file in
Notepad, the Japanese characters show up there, so I know RH7 isn't
really messing up the characters, it's just not displaying them in
HTML view. This still makes it difficult to manipulate Japanese
text in HTML view. Does anyone know if there is a way for these
characters to display in HTML view properly? Should I start a
different post? Thanks,
Ben

• Application Manager fails to initialize (Technical Communication Suite 4)

I am going round and round in circles with this problem, and am unable to find any help specific to Technical Communication Suite (although I feel it's probably the same problem as reported for the Creative Suite software mentioned elsewhere).
When Application Manager launches, it finds a whole raft of updates for Tech Comm Suite 4. Then says the first thing it has to do is update itself... but this fails with an extremely unhelpful error message:
"Adobe Application Manager
Some internal error occured during installation. Error Code: U49M1P1"
I've downloaded the FrameMaker 11 patch manually, but unless I'm missing something the Captivate one just directs me to use the Application Manager!
Another suggestion is tho use Adobe Support Advisor - but it's own blurb says it relates to Tech Comm Suite 3...and I have absolutely no idea HOW I'm supposed to use it once I've switched off the automatic stuff (which says there are no problems)! And again, it directs me to customer support...
I'm using Windows 7 32-bit with 3GB of RAM; Tech Comm Suite 4.
Just in case it's relevant, had an issue installing one component of the suite as had previously (a few months ago) had a trial of the software on this machine. Took an hour of chat with someone remotely taking control to install it.
I also do have FM9 installed on this machine, and (running on a VM) Captivate 3 and FM 7.2. I'm hoping I don't have to lose all of these as I will also lose the corresponding clients!
Do I really need to uninstall all Adobe software?
Alison

Dear Alison,
Apparently a network adapter named "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" is preventing Adobe Application Manager from reaching Adobe update servers.
I found a document on the internet explaining what to do:
http://dasongoh.blogspot.nl/2011/12/how-to-fix-adobe-application-manager.html
Hope it helps.

• Solved: Technical Communication Suite 2 Installer Crashes

I was repeatedly getting a crash installing Tech Comm Suite 2 in Windows XP from installation files I downloaded to my hard drive. The crash happened in the preinstallation phase, right at the beginning even before a serial number was requested.
The Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2 Installer would freeze then crash with a message, "Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2 Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I had the correct specs and resources for the installation and had turned off all the stuff I could think of. FM8 and CS3, including Acrobat 8 Pro, were installed but not running.
I found a workaround to this problem in the Adobe Knowledgebase and it works under light testing. Though, FM 9 is not outputting fonts correctly using Acrobat 9 (though Word and FM8 do not have this issue), but all seems functional.
I'm a little nervous because it does not look like the TCS 2 installer did a complete removal of Acrobat 8 when it installed Acrobat 9, but I have not yet run into a gotcha.
Here's what I found that worked to get TCS 2 installed:
1) Access the KB search http://www.adobe.com/support.
2) Search for "Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2 Installer" in the product "Technical Communication Suite" and select the "Product Support" checkbox.
3) Many results are for Vista--so Vista users presumably could run into this, too. Look for "Troubleshooting system errors and freezes (Technical Communication Suite 2 on Windows Vista) (kb408338)."
4) Pay attention and try step 4.: "4. Run Technical Communication Suite 2 while no other applications are running" as follows
To disable startup items and non Microsoft services:
1. Quit all applications.
2. Choose Start, type msconfig in the Search text box, and press Enter.
3. Write down all unselected items under the Startup and Services tabs.
4. Click the General tab, and choose Selective Startup.
5. Click the Startup tab and select Disable All.
6. Select any startup items that are essential for testing the problem. If you are unsure whether an item is essential, leave it deselected (disabled).
7. Click the Services tab, and check Hide All Microsoft Services.
8. Select Disable All then re-select any services that are essential for testing the problem. If you are unsure whether an item is essential, leave it deselected (disabled).
9. Click Apply, and restart Windows for the changes to take effect.
Note: Upon restart, you'll be notified that the System Configuration utility has made changes to the way that Windows starts up. Click OK. When the System Configuration utility appears click Cancel.
10. Right-click icons in the Notification Area and close or disable any startup items that are still active.
Then, try to re-create the problem:
* If the problem no longer occurs, one of the startup items is the cause of the problem.
* If the problem recurs, startup items are not the cause of the problem and you can re-enable them:
1. Choose Start, type msconfig in the Search text box, and press Enter.
2. Click the General tab, and choose Normal Startup.
3. Deselect any items that you wrote down in Step 3 of the previous section.
4. Click Apply, and restart Windows for the changes to take effect.
Read the options carefully - it doesn't mess with the CS3 components.
Quote: "The Adobe CS4 Clean Script is designed to not interfere with
existing Creative Suite 3 products, but it allows you to specify if
you wish to remove them as well."
For the font issue:
Check the settings in the Adobe PDF printer instance:
Printing Preferences > Paper/Quality > Advanced... button - should
have Download as Soft Font for the TrueType option enabled
Printing Preferences > Adobe PDF Settings
Do NOT have the "Rely on system font only; do NOT use document fonts"
option enabled!
Properties > General tab > Substitution table - except for Symbol and
Courier, there should be no substitutions allowed.
Also, check your Distiller options to see if the font location is
correctly specified and if the Fonts section of the joboptions in use
does not have a "Never Embed" setting for some of the fonts.

• Will there be a new Technical Communication Suite when CS5 will be released next month ?

Dear Forum,
will there be a new Technical Communication Suite when CS5 will be released next month (April 2010) ?
We are close ordering the Technical Communication Suite 2 - will there be a grace period to get the
new version without getting charged again ?
Greetz from Europe,
Speedtriple

I'm wondering about that too.
I've been stuck before when I bought TCS, then tried to upgrade just Captivate when v4 was released, and couldn't do it.  Took months to get my money back for the CS4 download.
Seems that anyone who buys a suite gets penalized for it.  Surely it's in Adobe's best interest to upgrade users who invested in the more expensive product?

• Lot of question about technical communication suite 5

I have a Mac, Parallels with Windows 8 for simulation, Creative Cloud 6, Technical Communication Suite 5. I use the Mac except when an application is available only for windows.
Is there a way to import in Frame PhotoShop and Illustrator documets with automatic link when those programs reside on the mac? (or do I need to install them on Windows)
Creative Cloud allows 2 computers. Is it the same for Tech Comm?
Can the programs in tech comm use the cloud?
Captivate in tech comm can work on the mac. Is there a way to install it there?
Tech Comm install a lot of programs on windows. Are they documented somewhere?
Is there some good tips about docummentation?
Is there a way to reinstall an application? Acrobat did not install corectly on windows (I have it as part of creative cloud on the mac)

The TechComm Suite is Windows only and is blisfully unaware of the Creative Cloud. It does have connectors to Photoshop and Illustrator for the FrameMaker component. As per all other Adobe products, you can have two activations on a product.
You need to run all of the TCS apps in a VM (Parallels, Bootcamp, etc.) if you want any interactions between them.
Consult the Help for the available documentation (there are downloadable PDFs of the User Guides). However, to learn the applications it it recommended to refer to third-party resources.
The TCS version of Captivate is Window only.
For TCS purposes, install the Acrobat version from the TCS in the virtual enviroment.

Hello Vivek,
Thanks for the announcement.
It is nice to know that anyone that now purchases the
Technical Communication Suite 1.3 as an upgrade will get Adobe
Acrobat 9 Pro Extended for the same price I paid in October 2007
for the Tech Comm Suite with Adobe Acrobat 8. Had I only waited
until this month to purchase the Technical Communication Suite I
too would have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat but alas, I will
have to spend an additional $300US to upgrade to TCS 1.3. Which
means I will have paid 30% more for the TCS than anyone purchasing
it now.
Sometimes it just does not pay to be an early adopter of a
product and have to go through the pain of wondering why RoboHelp 7
was so slow (among other bugs)...but I digress.
I understand you likely have nothing to do with the pricing,
but I felt I had to say something.

• Strong DITA integration into FM Technical Communication Suite

My motivation to vote for a strong DITA integration is that I can imagine the FM Technical Communication Suite as an very appropriate tool to support the DITA Learning and Training Content Specialization in a smart way.
That's important as on April 1, 2008 the DITA Technical Committee has approved Design Proposal 12058 for inclusion of the DITA specialization for learning and training content in the formal design plan for DITA 1.2.
My long-term vision for the FM Technical Communication Suite is, for example,
* write your quiz is FM and use it in Adobe Captivate
My short-term vision the for the FM Technical Communication Suite is
* improve the usability of the DITA plugin for technical writers
Looking forward to a user-to-user discussion about which smart DITA integration into the FM Technical Communication Suite.

b Smart Language Identification
GOAL
FM DITA plugin uses the xml attribute for language identification
to set
Proposal
The language identification attribute is
xml:lang
see
http://www.w3.org/TR/2000/REC-xml-20001006#sec-lang-tag
A scretch of an implementation:
Change the entry for the attribute xml:lang in the related EDDs from
Name: xml:lang String Optional
to
Name: xml:lang Choice Optional
Choices: en-US | de-DE
Default: en-US
Note: en-US means language(englisch)-country(USA)
A smart integration would
* language-country codes for all combinations supported by FM
* May be the drop-down list of
ParagraphFormatting/PropertiesFont/Language
can view the lanuage-country codes, too
* TextFormatRules similar to this one are necessary
If
Specification Concept[xml:lang="de-DE"]
ParagraphFormatting
PropertiesFont
Language
Deutsch
Well, my current workaround is I add a version of the above TextFormatRule to all elements which are specificied in the 'info-types' variable of the topic.edd
Any smarter workarounds known?

• Installing Technical communication suite

Folks
I am trying to install Technical communication Suite (mainly
for Captivate at the moment - the rest I'll use later) . I am
running Windows XP, Pentium 4 etc and have a licenced version of
Captivate 2
I keep getting the error message Error: Unable to Load
Product Information as soon as click on the first button on the
initial screen (activated by autorun)
I have worked through the troubleshooting doc on the adobe
site to no result.
The installation process starts up OK on my old steam powered
PC - but I want to install this on my better Pc
any suggestions?
Regards
Steven Knight

Hi Steven
Unfortunately, almost all of us here already have the product
successfully installed.
First, I'd try what is outlined in
this link.. If that
doesn't help, I'd strongly encourage you to contact Adobe support
and see what they have to say.
For what it's worth here, Adobe has changed the installation
method for most of their products. This means that installation
issues aren't problematic with only Captivate. There are issues
with many of the products.
Cheers... Rick

• Technical Communication Suite 3 - Install Location Correct?

Hi All,
I've just installed the new TCS3 upgrade from TCS2.5 on my XP Pro SP3 machine. The installer on the DVD seemed to work fine, but I just noticed that it didn't create a \Technical Communications Suite x\ folder like other TCS versions had. It placed all the components (FM10, RH9, etc) in the \Program Files\Adobe\ folder. Has anyone else seen this behaviour? I just found it odd that it seems to have performed a "standalone" component install with the added functionality of the suite.
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
This is the as per the new design of TCS 3. In earlier version all the suite products were placed in TCS folder but in TCS 3 you will not see any TCS folder but all the individual component will have separate folder in "C:\Program files\Adobe"
Thanks,
Sameer

Hi There,
Looking at the log files indicates that you already had "Reviewer" and "Quiz analyzer" installed on your machine from the previous installation of Captivate. "Adobe Captivate Reviewer" and "Adobe Captivate Quiz Results Analyzer" are installed as a separate component when you install Captivate. Even if you uninstall Captivate then also you need to uninstall these two separately. I think in your case you already had Captivate before on this machine. If that is the case then you can ingnore these errors and continue to work. You can also verify by launching the above two components separately and see if they are working.

Mayank
