Technical Name of Existing InfoObject

How can I change the technical name of an existing InfoObject? Thanks

I think this is not possible...you have to create another one as copy (but this will not allow you to replace the old with the new one in all the objects in which these objects are contained as providers, query and so on...)

Rename Technical names

Hello people,
I would rename technical names of infosources, datasources...
I see 2 ways :
- rename in a table the technical name of this infoobjects
- copy the infosource, with template the infosource to change.
In the first one, i don't know if this table exists.
In the second way, i create a new infosource with template the old one. i try to assign as datasource the old datasource (not connected to the old infosource, because <i>a datasource can be assigned to a only one infosource</i>). But i don't success. I don't see this datasource in order to assign it. And it seems i can't create a datasource manually with as template the old datasource.
Can you help me to resolve this problem??

You will have to create the transfer rules again - when you select a template - only the communication structure will get copied ..
Also even if you do fins out the table where it is stored and get to change the same - the background values are GUIDS or 32 character strings and that would still not change and you would have all sorts of problems transporting the same.
You would have to re create the transfer rules..

Virtual infoobjects: technical name in source and target systems

Hello Everybody,
actually I got a problem: I´ve created a virtual characteristic which is working fine on development system.
However after transporting to target system the BADI implementation containing the virtual infoobject dumps:
assign component 'Z____723' of structure cs_data to .
Is there any other way to avoid using these technical names 'Z____723' and use e.g. 0customer instead?
I would have expected, that the technical name for the virtual characteristic in my case 'Z____723' for 0customer will be the same in dev as in prod.

In my case I need to copy a Production Client (say 900) to a Test Client on a test machine (say client 700), what I came to know was that this is basically a client copy, but since the size of data involved is to the tune of 500GB +, it is System Copy.
Client Copy and System Copy are two different method to transfer the data and process are toatally different.

No. It will be client copy which is not possible as your Source/Target system are on different Support Pack level.
Or if I copy the client 900 to the existing client 700, is this a System Refresh ???
No. It will again a Client copy. You have confused between System Copy and Client Copy. I would suggest to to read first what is the difference between these two and the process to do that.

While saving Bex query with Technical name, it says Query already existing

Hi,
I am facing a problem. While saving a query withy its technical name (for example ZQYZMPR_01), it says that query is already existing. But when I search for the query in all tabs like Favourites, Roles, Infoprovider It is not found.
I also checked a view V_REP_JOIN. In this view I find Query (ZQYZMPR_01) in MODIFIED version.
I want to use my previous query instead of creating new one.
Suggest, how can I retrieve my previous query that I am unable to search for.

Searching with descriptions may lead to confusion as there may be similar descriptions to a query but just one technical name. Check the query 'where used list' you may find answers.
Can you check the query in RSZCOMPDIR ? If the query exist here, it must be there in the system. Do the search with exact technical name ZQYZMPR_01 or ZQYZMPR*, you should be able to find. Do not search in specific areas like roles etc..search directly by inputting the tech. name.
Ferdinando - you can delete the query in RSZDELETE transaction. While doing so, it will prompt for removal from all areas like roles, workbooks etc. Say 'yes' and delete, you will be able to assign the technical name to another query.

Hi,
Check in metadata repository for that infoObject.
If you are still not able to identify, goto RSBO tx and press F4.
You will get the list of Infospokes available.
Go in each and chk from the General Tab, if the infoObject is available in the source system.

Technical names of infoobjects in infosets

Hi,
I have create an Infoset through several ODS and cubes. System automatically generates technical names starting with F, at design screen for each infoobject in ODS or cubes. But i want to see and use original tech. names of objects especialy on the BEX design screen. F names are confusing me.
Is that possible ?

Technical names are assigned sequentialy.
You can enter in Infosets definition and push the button of technical names (the most right one)
In BEX i think is not possible.

Multiple Infoobject with same technical name

Hi All,
I have a very basic question which confuses me a lot.
I have installed a BI content info cube 0SD_C03(Sales overview) and it is installed in Info Area - ERP Analytics -->sales and distribution analyses. I checked the dimensions of it and 0customer( master data attr) is linked as a dimension. I created a copy of 0SD_C03 and the new Infocube name is ZSD_C03_T. It also has the same 0customer master data attr as a dimension(obviously!).
Now both the infocubes have different technical name(0SD_C03 and ZSD_C03_T) since they will be storing different sets of data(lets say). but the technical name of the master data (0CUSTOMER) is the same for both cubes.
ques 1: Is it since its a master data and contains the same set of master data for both the cubes, it has the same technical name?
If I search the Info provider section for "0CUSTOMER", i get two entries: One within my info area and another within another info area. And also i can keep doing (Right click Info area--> Insert Characteristic as Infoprovider) on every other info area and insert 0CUSTOMER in every other info area.

ques 3: if i search for 0CUSTOMER in InfoObjects section, i get 5 entries in different infoareas. How can there be diffferent Infoobject with same technical name be present in different info areas?

A. same 0CUSTMER you can use the different places it holds same data.
source is the 0CUST_ATTR -> target is 0CUSTOMER.

it has the overwrite function.

A. you triggered the 5 times for specif DTP means you will 5 entries for different info areas.
finally i will say you use the 0CUSTOMER no of places where you required and no need to create the ZCUSTOMER.

How to identify the technical names in infoobjects inInfoset

I want to design the query based ob infoset(SAP BW). Infoobjects shown in the infoset have different technical names.
There are 4 infoobjects in query designer having same descriptions. How should I identify technical name of infoobjects and differentiate between them?

Click on the Technical names button in query designer, it will be in between context menu and table display.

Copying an existing Variable with change of technical name in Qery designer

Is it possible to copy a variable and save it with diffrent technical name on same IO.
I understand before BW 3.0 there was RSZV (Maintain Variable) but what is the alternative for the same in BI 7.0.

In the filter the value of text variable is not shown, only technical name.

We have some odd behavior of text variables in the filter screen of key-figures.
After entering values in the variable screen, the report is executed.
Within the report all text variables are filled, with the values entered in the variable screen.
I say all, because we use both sap standard variables &0T_FPER& as customer specific &ZFSCYR&.
When i want to change the key figures showned, i press the filter icon for key-figures (BW 3.5)
In the list shown: existing filtervalues, the textvariables of SAP standard are filled with the value entered in the variable screen. However the customer specific is shown with the technical name (&ZFSCYR&) and not the value.
Has anyone experience with this behavior or even better a solution to prevent this?

Hi Rene,
If ur custom text variable is not getting populated then you need to check out the code that u have written in there in CMOD for this and ofcourse if ur using this text variable after report execution then it will definately be in i_step 2.
So best way is to debug your code and check that using code RSRT.

Display the technical name of the last level of the hierarchy

I have a report with hierarchy. Each level of the hierarchy uses different infoObject. I want the report to display the technical name only for nodes from specific infoObject. For example if the infoObject uses 0cust_grp1 (for the first level), 0cust_grp2 (for the second level), 0cust_grp3 (for the third level) and 0customer (for the last level) and I want to show the technical name only for the 0customer infoObject. I know how to do it in WAD reports. Is there a way of doing it in the Query Designer?

Check the below possibilities.
1. You can do that in a workbook.
2. Create a copy of the same hierarchy and for the 0CUSTOMER object and nodes give tech names as text also.

Is It POSSIBLE to change the Technical Name of Z-version Query

For queries, by using rszc , i was changed to Zversion,Now again is it
possible to change the Technical Name of Zversion Query ?

This may be the reason you are getting an error.
The target InfoCube, the InfoCube for the query copies, must contain all the InfoObjects of the source InfoCube (InfoCube of the original queries).
The another reasons may be the copying of queries within the same cube shouldn't be done by RSZC.
It's better to approach the Bex Query designer.

Can I change the technical name of an ODS and the queries that are built on it? If so how? Thanks

Hi Niten,
As said by others it is not possible to change the technical name of any BW Object as there are too many complexities involved. However a possible option is create another ODS/cube and queries as the copy of the existing one and then transfer all the data.

When we go into the manage of a target for diplaying the content of the object say active data table of ODS, I can only see the technical name of custom objects( infoobjects) like /bic/zcust but the technical name of the business content Infoobject ( like /bi0/material) is not seen instead I only see the description, How can I see the Technical name in the Selection screen of the data browser
