Techniques for OverHead Micing

Could someone give me some input on advantages and disadvantages of OH mic?  I have seen a few threads on them, but pictures or links to articles would help me most I think.  Thanks guys in advance.

Hi there
Please rephrase your question. This forum is for discussion of Adobe Captivate and the Recording process. Are you referring to any specific Adobe product? If so, which one? If you can tell us I can move your thread to the appropriate forum.

  • Cost center planning for overhead calculation

    Gurus,
I have a doubt regarding the cost center planning for overhead calculation.
    My scenario is:
There is a service cost center from which a certain percentage I want to allocate to the products as overhead. Now while doing so I have created a cost center and a cost element of type 43 (internal activity allocation). This cost element is the base for overhead calculation. Also I have created one cost element of type 41 (overhead rates). I have defined the credit (of cost sheet) with the cost element of type 41 and the cost center as mentioned.
Now I am facing a problem while planning the cost center with cost element type 43 through KP06.The system is throwing the error message: 'Cost element xxxx can only be used for activity input'. My understanding is we must carry out the planning for the cost center to allocate a certain percentage to the product cost estimate. If I am not allowed to use the cost element of type 43 to plan, what should I use for the planning?
    Request your suggestion.
    Thanks in advance!
    Snigdho.

    Hi
Since you mentioned catg 43 cost element, I thought you are using Activuty Type
To apply overhead on the product during CK11N, you need not plan any value on the cost center... The values planned in the cost center can not be used as a BASE in your costing sheet....
    It goes like this
    1. Your cost estimate has BOM + Routing
    2. So, the cost elements that you would see during CK11N, can be broadly classified into 3 types
    a. Primary cost ele - Material Consumption accounts for BOM components
    b. Secondary cost ele (Catg 43) - If you use any actvity type in the routing
    c. Secondary cost ele (Catg 41) - These cost elements are parasites... They need some basis to calculate the overhead value... That basis can be either the (a) or (b) above.....
I think, what you are planning to do is Plan Primary cost ele in a cost center and trying to use the same as the Basis.. That wont work!
What you need to do is
    a. PLan the values in the cost center, say, 100,000 USD
    b. Absorb it on the basis of 2.a or 2.b
If 2.b is not applicable in your case, since you are not using activity types, then 2.a is the Only option left for you
    Hope it is clear....

  • What are the permitted compression techniques for PDF/A-1?

The PDF/A-1 standard does not specify how compression is performed. What are the permitted compression techniques for PDF/A-1?
The information I have gathered (not sure if all are true)
    LZW should not be used
    JPEG2000 may not be used
Few say, JPEG can be used but its a lossy compression. (PDF standard clearly states lossy compression can't be used)
Also, how to figure out whether a particular file is PDF/A-1a or PDF/A-1b and what kind of compressions are used in that file?
    Thanks in advance.

For better or worse, ISO specifications are written in a language from a parallel universe.    After dealing with ISO standards for a while, you learn what specific words really mean. I should know - I am chair of the ISO PDF/X task force and co-chair of the PDF/VT task force.
The word should does not specify a requirement. PDF/A does not prohibit lossy compression.
JPEG is always a lossy compression. There is a mode of JPEG2000 compression that is indeed lossless. Note that JPEG and JPEG2000 are totally different compression schemes. (I believe that PDF/A-1 as well as PDF/X-1a and PDF/X-3, based on older versions of the PDF specification do not permit JPEG2000. PDF/A-2 based on ISO32000-1 and PDF/X-4 based on PDF 1.6 do allow for JPEG2000.)
    ZIP compression is lossless.

  • When importing photos with iBooks Gallery widget, is anyone aware of a technique for simultaneously importing the photo's description (or jpeg file name) and writing it into the iBook Author caption field for the imported photo?

When importing photos with the iBooks Author Gallery widget, is anyone aware of a technique for simultaneously importing the photo's description (or jpeg file name) and writing it into the iBook Author caption field for the corresponding imported photo? I have 4,800 stills to import and can't imagine it's necessary to copy and paste the description for each.

As always, feel free to use the 'Provide iBooks Author Feedback' menu item for features you'd like added in the future, etc.

  • What is the best technique for resetting a view?

I was wondering what is the best technique for resetting the initial state of a view?
I am creating a form and want to provide a reset button for the user.  I could write an initialize() method that my action handler calls, but I am wondering if the framework already provides this functionality in a more elegant way.
If I write an initialize method, then I have to manually populate my fields with my context mappings in my initialize() code to mimic what happens automatically by the framework the first time the view is called.  This seems prone to error since this is duplicating the mapping logic.
    Michael

    Hi,
Even though it boils down to the same logic, for consistency sake it is good to have the initialization logic coded in the inbound plug method and then to call the outbound plug on reset. This make more sense when you have multiple navigation possible to the same view through multiple inbound plugs.
    Else, have an initialization method.
PS: check whether the reset() method of IWDContext make sense. This is helpful when you have remove dynamically added nodes and attributes.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Techniques for New Product Introduction in Demantra 7.3.0.1

    Hi,
In Demantra 7.3.0.1 there are two ways for New Product Introduction:-
    1) Demand Planner: Member & chaining management
    2) Collaborative Workbench: Create Similar product
Can someone please tell me the pros and cons of each technique.
The new product introduction will be handled by our clients, so I wanted to know if all the required features can be handled by just one method so we can propose that to be used by the client. Or do we need to use both techniques for different scenarios?
As I understand with Chaining one can link one item to many sites at one go, while with CW the similar item is created linked to one particular location.
Also CW allows for adding cannibalization factor which is not accounted for in chaining.
Apart from this it would be really helpful if someone could throw some more light on the issue.
    Thanks.

    Hi Gaurav,
I personally feel that 'Create Similar product' is a much required improvement over the original way of NPI using Member & Chaining Management.
Also with CW as well, a new and similar item created can also be linked to multiple location, same as Source Item, depending on the filters used in the Worksheet from which the create similar product is invoked.
some of the PROS and CONS of the 2 methods are as follows:
Demand Planner: Member & chaining management
Pros: 1) Can be used to specify the time range for copying the history date.
    2) Can be used to specify the Percentage by which the source data needs to be adjusted while copying into the target combination
    3) An important feature is that this can be used to do chaining at an aggregated level.
Cons: 1) It takes a long time to setup a New Member, combination and Chaining relationship.
         2) High User involvement since user has to perform muliptle tasks and more error prone.
    Collaborative Workbench: Create Similar product
    Pros: 1) User-friendly
    2) Users needs to enter a few datapoints in single form and does not need to navigate through multiple forms/screens
    3) Ability to specify Cannibalization parameters as well as Launch dates
    4) Good performance.
    5) Ongoing Chaining
    6) When coupled with features like 'End of Lifecycle date', it provides a complete Business solution
Cons: 1) Can not be used for only performing Chaining.
    2) While it can be used to create a New Similar Product, it cannot be used to create a new similar Customer based on an existing item-location combination data. This, though, may not be a very common scenario.
    3) Apart from copying other Item attributes, the method also copies the same 'Item Description' level from source to the new similar product, which sometimes can be very confusing.
    Hope this helps.

  • New Enterprise Manager Book on Advanced EM Techniques for the Real World

    Dear Friends,
I am pleased to say my first EM book can be ordered now.
Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control: Advanced Techniques for the Real World
    [http://www.rampant-books.com/book_1001_advanced_techniques_oem_grid_control.htm]
Please let your colleagues and friends and clients know – it is the first book in the world to include EM 11g Grid Control. It is a great way for people to understand the capabilities of EM.
Oracle’s Enterprise Manager Grid Control is recognized as the IT Industry’s leading Oracle database administration and management tool. It is unrivalled in its ability to monitor, manage, maintain and report on entire enterprise grids that comprise hundreds (if not thousands) of Oracle databases and servers following an approach that is consistent and repeatable.
However, Enterprise Manager Grid Control may seem daunting even to the most advanced Oracle Administrator. The problem is you know about the power of Enterprise Manager but how do you unleash that power amongst what initially appears to be a maze of GUI-based screens that feature a myriad of links to reports and management tasks that in turn lead you to even more reports and management tasks?
This book shows you how to unleash that power.
Based on the Author’s considerable and practical Oracle database and Enterprise Manager Grid Control experience you will learn through illustrated examples how to create and schedule RMAN backups, generate Data Guard Standbys, clone databases and Oracle Homes and patch databases across hundreds and thousands of databases. You will learn how you can unlock the power of the Enterprise Manager Grid Control Packs, PlugIns and Connectors to simplify your database administration across your company’s database network, as also the management and monitoring of important Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and the nuances of all important real-time change control using Enterprise Manager.
There are other books on the market that describe how to install and configure Enterprise Manager but until now they haven’t explained using a simple and illustrated approach how to get the most out of your Enterprise Manager. This book does just that.
Covers the NEW Enterprise Manager Grid Control 11g.

  • Advanced Development Techniques for Oracle Portal Components

    Hello friends,
I have the following problem. I have a report and a form (on a

the form is refreshed with the values associated to the selected

    Oracle Portal Version: 3.0.9.8.0
    Thanks in advance.
    This is my code:

You can make the report with a procedure from which you may call to a form by means of a link. It is a possibility, no??
    It is better a example:

              sentencia := 'SELECT rowidtochar(rowid), campo1, campo2 FROM A';

              DBMS_SQL.DEFINE_COLUMN(v_cursor,1,rowid_pref,18);
              DBMS_SQL.DEFINE_COLUMN(v_cursor,2,v_campo1,20);

  • Technique for importing DV directly into iMoviwithout using import function

For those who don't want to spend extra time importing DV files, I offer the following technique which I deduced, tested and find very useful.
I recently developed a very simple technique for getting DV clips into an iMovie06 project without importing them directly. First, I transform the clip, whatever the underlying codec, into DV and name the DV files in the order I want them to appear. (Use of free MPEG Streamclip is recommended)
Then I create an iMovie06 project with the correct aspect ratio (4x3 or 16x9). Then I save and close the project in the same folder as the DV files.
Then in Finder I right-click the iMovie06 project and use "show package contents" to reveal the contents of the project.
I double click the Media folder and then select and drag all of the clips into the Media folder.
Then I double click on the iMovie project. When it opens, it will announce that there are items in the trash. Those items are the clips which were just added to the folder prior to opening the project.
Open the trash and systematically drag each clip into the clip menu spots in the sequence in which you wish to view them. Save the project and close the empty trash.
The project is ready for further editing.
This saves a great deal of time and seems to improve the video quality by avoiding a lengthy, second import process.
    Cheers.

Yes, I have been using this with any longer import:
    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/~shmhav/iMovieHD_6_bugs.html#quick_DVimport
Just remember to take care that the .dv clip you are dropping in the Media folder is REALLY a plain DV stream .dv clip and that it is of the same video standard (PAL/NTSC) as the iMovie project.
Some gotchas: iMovie HD 6 accepts even DV-encoded .mov files or wrong video standard .dv clips straight to its Media folder, but adding titles to such clips produces colorful artifacts to the rendered clip. Also notice that iMovie 4's Full Quality DV export preset exports a file with the .dv suffix but it is, in fact, a DV-encoded .mov if the source iMovie 4 project has chapters in it (this is not an issue with iMovie HD's Full Quality DV export anymore).

  • "Case use" technique for SAP implementation?

    Hello all,
has anyone used "case use" technique for SAP implementation? I mean for standard process, not only developing.
    Any recommendation about it?
Thanks in advance and best regards,
    Adolfo

It would be helpful to go through the help document of ASAP Methodology.
The following information may clarify some doubts/requirements you have.
Generating the Project IMG through ASAP:
After you have set the project scope, the next step is to generate the Project IMG. From the Business Process Master List (BPML), you can directly access the IMG activities relevant for configuring each process.
BPML: The Business Process Master List, along with the Business Blueprint, is a key result of the second phase of the Roadmap. Microsoft Excel tables contain the SAP scenarios, process groups, and processes that have been set in scope in the SAP Reference Structure, and are crucial for configuring your SAP System. In Realization, the third phase of the Roadmap, the BPML provides the basis for monitoring and steering test activities and for configuring your SAP System. It contains the titles of the structure items, and displays the status, the owner, links to documentation and links to the SAP System. Amongst other things, the BPML allows you to:
    1) Set your baseline and final scope. These are used for baseline and final configuration.
    2) Access the Project IMG and specific IMG activities assigned to structure items.
    3) Access integration test plans, which help you carry out all required integration tests.
The Prerequisite is you have set the project scope.
Process Flow to use the Business Blueprint as a basis for configuring your SAP System:
    1) Set the project scope.
    2) Generate the Project IMG.
    3) Generate the BPML.
    4) From a specific processes in the BPML, you can go to the relevant IMG activities and make Customizing settings.

  • What techniques for storing high quality & low size songs in iTunes

I use iTunes with an 80gb ipod for music on my Home Theater system. For this, I'd like to use Apple Lossless files (higher quality & I can afford the big files).
For the family iPods, I'd like to use 320kbps (good enough for iPods & small file size).
What are good techniques for keeping both size files on my iMac? I'd like this to be as simple as possible.

This is often asked and there is not any simple technique. The choices are to either keep two separate libraries (that would be my preference), or to keep separate playlists within a single library.
Note that once you get set up, any new files you add to the library will have to be manually handled to make sure that the 320 version gets added to the additional library/playlists.

  • Is There a Technique for Improving Rental Movie Experience?

I attempted to watch “The American” on my 2nd Gen Apple TV two nights ago. I was told it would take four hours to be ready, so I just left it alone and did something else. Last evening I found that it was ready to watch, so I did. It was fine for the first hour, but during the second half it stopped three times for several minutes to re-buffer -- a very annoying experience for movie watching, particularly when one is paying for it.
My Apple TV is connected wirelessly to my home wireless system. My home system always measures in the 15 to 20 Mb speed range, and my router is a brand new Airport Extreme (2.4 and 5 bands simultaneously). My Apple TV shows four (out of five) bars on the system info part of the menu. When I run the Apple TV’s own network speed test, there is no indication of a problem there either (although some feedback one way or the other would be better).
So, is there a technique for making this better, using the 8GB of memory in the new Apple TV? Movie watching was always flawless with my old 1st Gen Apple TV because you could download the rental to its memory. Is there some tip which will allow me to do the same with this new 2nd Gen Apple TV?

Thanks to vazandrew for prompt response. Yes, that's the way I understand the situation too. I was just wondering if anyone knew how to make better use of the cache to store more of the movie so we could prevent stoppages.
Frankly, the 2nd Gen Apple TV is a step backword from Apple's "it just works" philosophy. Yes, one can experiment with direct ethernet connection, look for wireless interference, etc., but the old First Gen. Apple TV simply wasn't that finicky to get a good movie watching experience (I've owned one for 2 1/2 years). And best of all it is a wonderful house music box where I keep all of my music, control it with my iPhone or iPad app, and don't have to have my computer on to do it. The only thing it lacked was Netflix streaming which is also spotty from time to time.
I plan to suggest to Apple that they develop an "Apple TV Pro" or Apple TV II" that contains memory like the 1st Gen did, but solid state this time, and also allow Netflix and other internet streaming. Yes, it would cost somewhat more, but it would perform much better. I wonder if they will pay attention to my voice in the wilderness?

  • Techniques for a synchronous long-life data acquisition

    Hello All
I have a digitizer, which needs to run at a constant rate for ever. When some condition occur (reading exceed treshold level), other data processing must take place.
The data processing last for much longer time that the successive sampling, which means that I can not fit data processing in the same thread as the sampling process.
It looks like I need some kind of buffer, which will be filled and keep track of the sampled data, and another thread for data processing and analizying.
Can somebody give me a link, or advice about this kind of problems. What are the techniques for long-life data acquisition.
    Thank you in advance.
    Pawel

Indeed a challenging application! Here is what has been done successfully in other applications:
    1) to separate the DAQ task from other tasks, put the data into a Queue. This creates a second software buffer for your data.
    2) for large buffers, so you can extract pre and post trigger data, use two files (a double buffered file buffer) and stream the data to each file successively within your DAQ VI.
    3) when you detect the threshold trigger in your DAQ loop, note the block number and pass this as part of the queue

  • Block cost center for overhead account

    Dear Experts,
My user would like to block the cost center for overhead account, gl account number 3xxxx.
My question is, should the cost center blocked to be changed to other account? If yes, where to change the setting/configuration for overhead account to cost center? And what is the effect for this changes.
    Kindly advice.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
In KS02 you can block the cost centre for secondary postings only, if this is what you mean by 'overhead' accounting. In OKB9, you set a default of a cost object for G/L account. If you want to block the postings to cost centre completely, obviously, you will have to change the default to other cost centre. Otherwise, you will be receiving errors when trying to post to the account in question. The impact of the change will be, that every new posting to this account will be done with a new cost centre.
    Regards,
    Eli
