Techno functional material

Hi friends,
I am new to this forum. I just read few discussions and thought I would get some solution. I am not able to find elearing/eclasses in core ABAP like PP or SD or WM modules. Could you please tell me where I can find the proper documents to gain knowledge in functionality.

I do not think you can get techno functional documentation specific to any functionality. If you do find something like that let us know.
You might want to look at Functional documentation and Technical documentation both at http://help.sap.com
Also look into SAP Best Practices if you want to get indepth knowledge of any specific functional area.
Blending technical skills into functionality depends on each individuals ability and would get better with experience.

Dear Jagrut,
Well there is no separate section for technofunctional people like ABAP SD. I think it wil not be an easy proposition also to have a separate section. Regarding the documents, I have posted lot of queries on technofunctional aspect of SD and I have got good responses from the SD forum. So you can try it here.
A small search on SDN SD forum most of the times will help you to answer your query.
I will suggest you to visit http://sap-img.com/sap-sd.htm. It will give you the overview of SAP SD module.
Moreover there is a separate section of FAQs with answers which will help you in great deal.

Considering your experience, it is better to get into SAP as the market is growing a lot...eventhough you have functional experience, in order to materialize with Functional Consulting, you will have to undergo classes...SAP themselves conduct classes using various business partners and you can join them to understand the configuration bit...For pursuing your goal, first step would be to join a class on understanding the indepth knowledge on SAP...Since the market requires lot of consultant, but still the requirement is majorly for expereinced consultants and for achieving that you will have to work hard to gain that experience in SAP...At the time of doing the course please ensure that you keep continuing with your existing job.

According to my personal opinion,
1. The only advantage is of personal satisfaction.
2. Salary wise nobody will get extra money for
   having such extra knowledge.
   (Bcos, a person is appointed in a company
    for handling his technical work of abap,
    he won't be RESPONSIBLE for customization
    and other things of functional area ;
   that responsibility will be of some other
   functional consultant)
3. Other minor advantage is that abap development
   quality and time gets efficient if we know
   a little about the functional side also.

Hi,
As an ABAPer, you should work with other functional modules like SD,MM or others.
ABAPer have a chance to move to so many functional sides like CRM,SRM, EHS ,FI,HCM and etc. That is based on our experience and interest.
If you worked on CRM system, then better to move to CRM functional. It is a good option.

Oracle Techno Functional module career path suggestions

My educational background is BE(Computers) and MBA (Banking and insurance). At present I am working as QA lead and have 5 years of work experience in QA. But I want to switch my career path from QA to Oracle techno functional consultant with oracle finance module. Can anybody please suggest what will be my future prospects or career path for this. I wanted to sign up for a oracle techno functional training but before this wanted to get some expert advise if this will be beneficial. Any help in this matter will be deeply appreciated.

I was an accoutant by trade 1991-1999 and started learning DB concepts and reporting in general. I was able to get a job writing crystal reports for Solomon accounting package. That led to support for the accounting package. That was in 2000.
Our company purchased the Oracle ERP suite in 2003, so i was able to go to train and be here for implementation and go live. I was lucky in that i was able to get training. You have a good business background, which is very important for functional analysts. The tough part is too get a foot in the door in a company that uses Oracle.

Its clear that there are consultants with a shameful behavior, overselling themselves. But, in the other side that Jeyakanthan
tell us (an ABAPer with strong functional skills). If you are a functional with 10/15 years of experience, with 2 or more modules and you have ABAP skills (not all, of course, you develop your own enhancements/BADI/BTE, your ALV lists, perhaps you have problems with smartforms -ie: you are slow in the development of forms-, a little bit of ABAP OO, you are able to do traces and check bottlenecks...) ¿How do you sell yourself? ¿How do you improve your possibilities in the market?

Techno Functional Consultant

Well, the question of doing a supporting module with BW was taunting me too, well i am new to BW, but want to do CRM, is it in demand and as it is a functional module, would i be able to get a certification without taking up a course.
If no, what else could i take up and if i manage to clear it, could i call myself as a techno functional guy, please explain.

Yes, you can become a techno functional consultant.
You can start by learning Debugging. That is a very important tool. And being a functional consultant it will be a boon for you. And I think this is the only thing you need to learn as far as ABAP is concerned.
Try to get familiar with ABAP transactions like SE38, SE80, SE11, SE14, SM30 etc.. etc....
Gradually you will learn to use them.

I have 6 years of experience in SAP HR. Have started my career as ABAPer. Efficently worked in BSP.
For past 4 years i have been in eHR project ( SAP HR ABAP, ESS, MSS, eAppraisal - Configuration and development in BSP,elearning,EP ( Content and user Admin). For past 1 year i have been in SAP Payroll (Schemas,payroll functions,wagetypes). Currently doing payroll post production support.
Though my role is senior sofware engineer, i have worked efficeintly in functional side for eAppraisals and SAP Payroll (schemas, fns,features and wagetype configuration.
Wht role i can go for? Which will be good for my future? Which role has more openings?

Some companies didnt short list my resume, as i have only 2.5 years of exp as functional. though am confident of doing functional role, seems technical door is wide opened.
How about openings for SAP techno-functional? Heard only small companies have techno functional positions and most of the MNC's have separate positons for technical and functional.
I am in dilemma, which one to go for. anyone had simillar experience?

Question about SAP "Techno Functional" label

Hello all,
I am going on my 4th year of SAP BASIS. I am in a very small basis team (3 people) and have experience with implementation and administration of Netweaver 2004s (BI 7.0, ECC 5, CRM 5.0) Yes, not the newest, I know. I also do DBA administration with Oracle 10g, and JAVA due to CRM dual-stack and EP.
My training and focus is on Authorizations and I have quite a bit of experience from projects helping our BA's with both MM and FICO. So I have had a lot of experience on that side from the functional perspective, as well as the BI Analytics and Analysis Auth in our portal.
So I do "a little bit of everything." I have spoken with some contacts who claim I am "techno functional" and should list that. I just wanted some advice on whether this is true, and I should list that, or whether it would be misleading? I know this is generally sought after by smaller shops.
Also, it was suggested that since I do not have much interest in learning ABAP programming in depth, I look more towards PMI training to sharpen my project management skills on the functional side. I am not sure whether PMP or CAPM would be beneficial versus further SAP classes/certifications.
Thanks and hopefully someone can give me an idea whether I can be labelled as "techno functional."

Role of SD Techno-Functional consultant.

Am an ABAPer with one and half years of experience and have an opportunity to learn SD.
Can somebody tell me What exact role i will be performing as a technofunctional and does it make sence markewise(i mean does it add value to salary).

The Basic responsibility of a CRM Functional Consultant are
1. Understand the Clients Business Process
2. Mapping the Business Process with SAP CRM Process
3. Collecting the requirements of the client
4. Analyzing the requirements with respect to SAP CRM
5. Configuring the SAP CRM system according to clients requirement.
6. Co-ordinating with technical tem members to reach the technical requirements.
Precisely as a Functional Consultant, one has to interact with the client very often to map the business requirements with SAP CRM business Process.
