  • Touch technology for ABAP

    Hi,
As considering mobile and tablet is getting more market penetration and enterprise is more keen on adapting these technology for their employee.
Now seem like most developer are jumping ship to develop mobile apps for all kinds of businesses.
Someday, enterprise office application may go into touch technology, something like microsoft surface, or kinect.
Was wondering, will there be possible ABAP may come out with something that is touch technology enabled that could program like iOS or android platform?
Moderator message : Not directly related to ABAP development, thread locked.

you need to understand what is touch technology first. it basically means converting the mechanical touch to a screen event.. right? so thats the work of hardware.
ever heard of RFID technology?, in the RFID devices(handlheld) they do use touch screens(resistive touch). so its not abap which enable touch technology, its the touch driver which generates the logic to identify which part of screen is touched (pressed) and operates on that.

  • How can we benefit from WebDynpro for ABAP over Normal ABAP

    Dear Guru's,
Please guide me what are +Ves of WebDynpro over Normal ABAP. Once all Applications are developed how can we organize them. For Example In SD module there is sequence of Tcodes to be executed this is true for all modules . Is there any concept involved in this new technology.
For What purpose we can suggest someone to implement in an Organization.
    Many Thanks in Advance.
    Regards
    Ram

    Hi Ram,
Here Are some comparisions I made w.r.t Webdynpro for ABAP (also some benifits over Java):
1     "Pros:it will be easier to move your development project through the system landscape if both the UI and business logic are in the same development environment.(Update: This is is less of a concern now that CTS+ lets you bundle your WD Java UI developement with ABAP development objects into a single transport, with SPS13. )
2     tons of custom ABAP business logic is easier to access via WD for ABAP
3     WD for ABAP has a code wizard, so easy to build
4     SAP List Viewer and ALV handled better
5      The biggest thing is the NWDI. Most of the SAP customer have ABAP stack, but not everyone has the Java stack. To develop WD Java you need to set up the NWDI envrionment, like SLD, CMS, CBS, DTR, etc. which is a huge effort if you don't have them in place. While for WD ABAP, the environemnt is normally there as given for most of customers if they have the right version.
6     If your business is in SAP system, I would prefer WD ABAP. There are many WD components available in WD ABAP like select-option, Alv table, F4-help which are not available in WD Java. Beside in WD ABAP you can deal the context node in form of internal table which is much more performant than dealing with the contextelement which is the case for WD Java.

  • Other technologies for Process Composer applications

    Hi,
as I found out, the most appropriate technologies applications built with Process Composer are WebDynpro for Java and enterprise service invocation. I have to queations regarding other technologies:
    1. Is it possible to use other UI technologies like WebDynpro for ABAP, Visual Composer or Adobe Forms?
    2. Is it possible to make direct function calls like RFCs instead of indirect enterprise service calls?
    Thanks for your help
    Felix

    Hi Felix,
Regarding your questions, below are the answers:
    1. Is it possible to use other UI technologies like WebDynpro for ABAP, Visual Composer or Adobe Forms?
No, with current version (7.1.1) only Adobe Forms (online scenario) from above are supported. Some Others will be supported in 7.2
    2. Is it possible to make direct function calls like RFCs instead of indirect enterprise service calls?
No, not possible to make direct RFC calls. You need to use Services for this.
    Hope this helps!!
    Cheers,

  • There should be seperate forum for ABAP HR

    Hello folks,
I have recently joined SDN community. What I feel is that there should be different forum for ABAP HR. If I have to post a question or if I have to look what other members have asked in concern with ABAP HR then it is difficult to search in either ABAP or HCM forums.
    Please suggest.

    >technical ABAP issues could go to a new ABAP HR sub-forum
@Thomas - with much of the new HCM technology being delivered in WDA and associated techs (POWL, etc) many of the issues are cross application. Having another segregation would mean these questions getting lost or even more work for moderators to move posts across forums.
Tagging and being able to view all threads with a given tag (akin to the Google GMail labels for those needing a "real" example ) is the way to resolve these issues, but until we have a revolution in how SCN is organised, I'd be opposed to any further fragmentation. Perhaps I should set up an RSS reader and then going through multiple forums wouldn't be as tiresome, but I haven't got to that point, and I doubt most users have.
    Just my thoughts!
    Cheers,
    Chris

  • Additional instalation for ABAP Webdynpro

Dear Collegues, I'm on the way to decide which technology should I choose for company developing web application. I was wondering about PDK for .NET as the company has invested a lot in .NET technology so far. But I realized that it is possible to use Web Dynpro ABAP, as far as I know I have ECC 6.0 version of SAP on WAS 7.0 just installed, but as far as I know I can access Webdynpro for ABAP on SE80 level, but when I go there I do not see any possiblity to create Webdynpro components. Could you please guide me what should be additionally installed within ABAP Workbench enviroment. I know that for Webdynpro for Java I need Webdynpro Developer Studio (I was programing some time ago in it) but what about Webdynpro ABAP? Do I need any additional isntallation? Do I need any additional licence? Or maybe some components should be attached in installation of SAP Netweaver 2004s?
Thank you in advance for your help.

    Web Dynpro ABAP
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/db22242d-0701-0010-28a2-aeaa1fefd706
Hope that the following also helps you.
Web Dynpro for ABAP (WD4A, WDA) is the SAP standard UI technology for developing Web
applications in the ABAP environment. It consists of a runtime environment and a graphical
development environment with special Web Dynpro tools that are integrated in the ABAP
    Workbench (SE80).
Web Dynpro offers the following advantages for application developers:
The use of declarative and graphical tools significantly reduces the implementation
    effort
Web Dynpro supports a structured design process
Strict separation between layout and business data
Reuse and better maintainability by using components
The layout and navigation is easily changed using the Web Dynpro tools
Stateful applications are supported – that is, if the page is changed and the required
data remains intact so that you can access it at any time throughout the entire
    application context.
Note that stateless applications are not possible.
Automatic data transport using data binding
    Automatic input check
Automatic operation of the Web Dynpro application using the keyboard
    User interface accessibility is supported
Full integration in the reliable ABAP development environment
    Web Dynpro Architecture
    Definition
Web Dynpro is the SAP NetWeaver programming model for user interfaces (UIs).
The Web Dynpro model is based on the Model View Controller paradigm, and has the
following features that build on the classic dynpro model:
Clear separation of business logic and display logic
Uniform metamodel for all types of user interfaces
Execution on a number of client platforms.
    Extensive platform independence of interfaces
    Structure
    Metamodel Concept
Web Dynpro provides support for developing Web representation of a business application.
You use specific tools to describe the properties of a Web Dynpro application in the form of
Web Dynpro metadata. The necessary source code is then generated automatically and
executed at runtime. In addition to the events offered by the framework, you can also define
your own events for a Web Dynpro application. However, the event handling must always be
programmed in separate source code areas which are executed automatically when the event
    is triggered at runtime.
In Web Dynpro, each user interface is always made up of the same basic elements. These
elements of the metamodel can be statically declared using Web Dynpro tools.
It is also possible to implement elements of the metamodel at runtime and to change them or
reintegrate them at runtime. Using these implementations, you can make any changes or
enhancements to a user interface that has been created by declarative methods by
generating new interface structures at runtime.
This means that you can combine declarative processes and the implementation of source
    code.
    Graphical Development Tools
To support this declarative concept, both the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio and the
ABAP Workbench contain a range of Web Dynpro tools. You can therefore generate a large
proportion of a Web Dynpro application using the tools provided, without having to create your
own source code. This applies to the following parts of the application:
Data flow between the front end and back end
    Layout of the user interface
    Properties of user interface elements
The Web Dynpro tools enable you to create source text areas manually within generated
source texts. These areas are not changed if the source code is regenerated.
Separation of Business and Application Logic
Using Web Dynpro enables a clear separation of business logic and display logic. A Web
Dynpro application runs on the front end and has local or remote access to the back end
system via a service. This means that the display logic is contained in the Web Dynpro
application, while the business logic and the persistence of the business objects run in the
back end system. The following options are currently available for connecting Web Dynpro
    applications and the back-end system:
An interface generated using adaptive RFC, through which BAPIs of an SAP system
    can be called
An interface for calling Web services
    A self-generated interface
The source code required for connecting the Web Dynpro application can be generated
from a UML definition of the Web Dynpro interface. A UML definition can be imported
into the Web Dynpro tools as an XML file.
    Conversion of the Model-View-Controller
Conversion of the Model-View-Controller Programming Model
Every Web Dynpro application is structured according to the Model View Controller
    programming model:
The model forms the interface to the back end system and thus enables the
Web Dynpro application access to data.
The view is responsible for the representation of the data in the browser.
The controller lies between the view and the model. The controller formats
the model data to be displayed in the view, processes the user entries made by the
user, and returns them to the model.

  • Comparison between WebDynpro for ABAP vs. WebDynpro for Java ??

    Hi,
Can someone tell me when should we go for WebDynpro for ABAP and when WebDynpro for Java. Is there any link where SAP recommends the one for the other.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Mukesh

    Hi Mukesh,
Both are having its own strengths!! )
I think it all depends on your project requirement and the availabel resources.
If the developer is good in OOPs ABAP then he must go for Web Dynpro ABAP. But if anyone is good in JAVA then that person should go for Web Dynpro JAVA.
*In Short almost all Features supported in webdynpro ABAP are also Possible in webdynpro Java.
    1] Webdynpro Java
    Supports,
    webservice
    RFC Models
    Accessing Portal information in Java
    Easy sending E-mail
Strictly follows MVC architecture which seperate Business logic and Process flow.
Webdynpro Java is webbased programming model to develop SAP Applications.
    Easy to learn
Easy to integrate in Enter prise portals.
    Dynanamic Programming
*Easy access to R/3 Via RFC technology (Models)
    2] Web Dynpro ABAP
As the name suggests Web Dynpro for ABAP uses exactly the same meta model as its cousin Web Dynpro for Java. A Web Dynpro component, a Web Dynpro view, a Web Dynpro model, a Web Dynpro controller have the same semantics both for ABAP and Java. The main difference is the designtime environment, the development infrastructure and the runtime environment.
The designtime environment is properly embedded in the ABAP Workbench where Web Dynpro artifacts are simply a new category like BSP applications or classical dynpro based applications before. Also no surprises regarding the development infrastructure. The correction and transport system keeps track on all changes that are done, versions them and helps to propagate the Web Dynpro application from development to production like you would do with ordinary BSP or dynpro-based applications.
Last not least the execution platform is the ABAP server that produces application content ready to be integrated in the NetWeaver Portal seamlessly. Features like portal eventing can be used between applications written in ABAP or applications developed with Java.
Hope this helps and solve your Problem
    Cheers,
    Darshna.

  • What is used for WebDynpro for ABAP?

    hi all friends,,
what is used for WebDynpro for ABAP?
    Thanks,
    S.Suresh.

    Hi
Web Dynpro for ABAP - Getting Started
Web Dynpro for ABAP is SAP’s new standard UI technology for developing user interfaces in the ABAP environment. In the long term Web Dynpro for ABAP will be the successor of the traditional screen (“Dynpro”) based user interface technology which is based on the SAP GUI. Available with NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) Web Dynpro for ABAP provides the same declarative UI development paradigm as Web Dynpro for Java directly out of the NetWeaver ABAP Application Server. Web Dynpro for ABAP allows the development of user interfaces directly within the ABAP Workbench (SE80) and the Web Dynpro runtime environment is a central part of the ABAP server and can be used in any SAP solution based on NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) without the need of an additional server installation.
Web Dynpro for ABAP allows the development of user interfaces in a declarative way by providing a mighty framework which abstracts the rendering technology from the core UI definition tasks. The Web Dynpro developer declares the layout and behavior of the UI without caring about HTML, JavaScript, browser specifics or the HTTP protocol. Instead the focus lies on designing graphically Web Dynpro components based on the Model View Controller model, which enforces a clear separation between the UI layer and the underlying business logic.
This declarative Web Dynpro programming model enforces the developer to focus on the tasks of
Designing the layout of the visible views (where should the table be placed, do I need tabs, how should the button look?)
Declaring the flow and behavior of the application (flow between views, which event is triggered by which button click, etc)
Defining the data binding (which internal table is displayed in a specific table, etc)
Implementing the event handlers and controller methods.
Without making any assumption about the used rendering technology, like which browser should be supported or if the Web Dynpro application will be later displayed in a web browser via HTML at all or in another kind of client with completely different rendering capabilities.
The Web Dynpro Frameworks provides all important UI features directly out of the box:
All elements (tables, buttons, trees, dropdown list boxes, etc) necessary for state of the art user interfaces are provided by the Web Dynpro Framework in the form of predefined UI element libraries.
Complex features and behavior of UI elements.
Internationalization of the UI. All visible strings in a Web Dynpro ABAP UI are handled by the translation system and are translated in the same translation environment like other ABAP language dependent resources. All texts are displayed automatically at runtime, dependent of the user’s credentials.
Accessibility features are directly built into the framework and UI elements.
A unified rendering engine generates at runtime the data which is sent to the specific client application, which is not limited to browsers but includes the NetWeaver Business Client.
All this is available in the established environment of the ABAP application server and well known capabilities like the transportation and change management system, security environment, test and performance analysis tools or remote debugging can be used like in common ABAP development.

  • Alternative for web dynpro for abap

    Ok,
After a previous question we found out that if we want to use web dynpro for abap, we should upgrade to NW2004S.
Now, are there alternatives for web dynpro for abap?
    currently (WAS 6.20 - R/3 4.7)
    Thanks in advance,
    Tom

    Hi Tom.
On 6.20 you can use BSP. But this is not a real alternative to WD4A when lookin at the comfortable development. But a alternative as web application technology.

My code is like the following:
    TYPES: BEGIN OF t_type,
                CARRID TYPE sflight-carrid,
                CONNID TYPE sflight-connid,
             END OF t_type.
Data:  i_struc type table of t_type,
      dyn_node   type ref to if_wd_context_node,
      rootnode_info   type ref to if_wd_context_node_info,
      i_node_att type wdr_context_attr_info_map,
      wa_node_att type line of wdr_context_attr_info_map.
          wa_node_att-name = 'CARRID'.
          wa_node_att-TYPE_NAME = 'SFLIGHT-CARRID'.
          insert wa_node_att into table i_node_att.
          wa_node_att-name = 'CONNID'.
          wa_node_att-TYPE_NAME = 'SFLIGHT-CONNID'.
          insert wa_node_att into table i_node_att.
    clear i_struc. refresh i_struc.
select carrid connid into corresponding fields of table i_struc from sflight where carrid = 'AA'.
    rootnode_info = wd_context->get_node_info( ).
    rootnode_info->add_new_child_node( name = 'DYNFLIGHT'
                                       attributes = i_node_att
                                       is_multiple = abap_true ).
    dyn_node = wd_context->get_child_node( 'DYNFLIGHT' ).
    dyn_node->bind_table( i_struc ).
    l_ref_interfacecontroller->set_data( dyn_node ).
I am trying to create a new node. That is
    CONTEXT
    - DYNFLIGHT
    CARRID
    CONNID
As you see above I am trying to create 'DYNFLIGHT' along with the 2 attributes which are inside this node. The structure of the node that is, no.of attributes may vary based on some condition. Thats why I am trying to create a node dynamically.
Also I cannot define the structure in the ABAP dictionary because it changes based on condition

  • Using the Execute Preloaded Option for ABAP Dataflows in SAP BODS

    Hello All,
This is regarding the use of Advanced Option in SAP Application Type (ECC) Datastore settings in SAP BODS 4.2, where there are two options to select from for ABAP Execution Option property: (1)Generate and Execute and (2) Execute Preloaded. Since our ECC client is often locked by BASIS team even on DEV environment, we would like to make use of the second option 'Execute Preloaded' so that we could extract the data from ECC tables without having to ask the BASIS team to unlock the ECC client every time before extraction.
The problem is that we are getting an error upon generating and uploading the ABAP program to ECC client. I have searched the blogs and so far I have only found that there are certain ABAP programs or function modules that come with SAP BODS which need to be installed by BASIS team on ECC side to allow the ABAP dataflows to be generated and uploaded to ECC server. I would appreciate it if anyone could provide a list of which function modules BASIS needs to install on ECC or a blog that provides details around using this option.
So far, from the SAP BODS designer, we are performing below steps but getting an error upon generating and uploading the ABAP dataflow program:
    1. Create a test ABAP Dataflow using SAP ECC datastore. Provide the ABAP program options.
    2. Right click, select Generate ABAP Program.
    3. Once the ABAP Program Generation Dialog box appears, check the box "Upload Generated Program".
    4. Upon clicking OK, we are getting the following error:
    The ABAP program <ZRTEST01> for ABAP data flow <RT_TEST_R3> (datastore <R3_DS>) was not uploaded: < RFC CallReceive error <Function /BODS/RFC_ABAP_INSTALL_AND_RUN: RFC_ABAP_MESSAGE- Exception condition "NOT_SUPPORTED_BY_GUI" trigger[SAP NWRFC 720][SAP Partner ### ][clientname][servername][accountname][4103]>. >.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Rizwan

    All,
The BASIS team reviewed steps provided in the BODS document and attempted to install the Function Modules but now none of the BODS jobs would work. All BODS jobs are being terminted with the Syntax Error error when extracting data from ECC using ABAP dataflows:
