Tecra 8000 notebook - display with almost ZERO luminosity

Hi all,
I have a problem with luminosity settings for my Tecra 8000.
I have lowered the luminosity to minimum values but now I am not able to bring it back to a "visible" level.
Thank you for any advice you may have.... it is just frustrating!

Hi
When the computer operates on power through the AC adaptor, the display screens image ill be somewhat brighter than when it operates on battery power. The lower brightness level is intended to save battery power.
If you start the computer with the AC adaptor plugged in and unplug the computer during operation, the brightness level wills not decrease even though the computer is operating under battery power. In this case battery operating time will be shortened.

  • Tecra M5-106: Display with 1024 * 768 resolution is not clear

    I buy Toshiba Tecra M5-106, it is 14.1" screen.
    When i set the screen resolution to 1024 * 768, every thing comes not clear... also the fonts is not good. Could be the sharpness or other?
    Any one see this before, or have solution for this?
    Solving this is highly appreciated.
    Ragards,

    Hello Bualim,
    The M5 is a really great notebook with very good characteristics. There are versions of this notebook with a NVIDIA graphic card (NVIDIA® Quadro® NVS 110M 128 MB DDR2) and others with an INTEL chipset. I don't know which one your model has unless you post the model code that is printed under your notebook.
    According to some research I made, the native resolution of your monitor should be 1400x1050 so you should leave your notebook to work in this resolution rather than something lower like 1024x768.
    You might say, "the fontsize is too small in 1400x1050", nevertheless you should NOT change into lower resolution (the common procedure done on the old CRT Monitor) but have the size adjusted through Window's "Appearance settings" on the "Display properties". This is the right way to go on a TFT screen (notebook): Always keep the maximum (your native) resolution and adjust the size of icons and fonts through software settings within windows.
    Ok, getting back to your problem now:
    =Have you all display drivers loaded into your system? (The correct ones for your graphic card?)
    =Is your Graphic card recognized correctly in the "Device manager menu" without any "yellow conflict" signs?
    You will find the most (Toshiba supplied) recent Display drivers in the dedicated upgrade section for your model. Here is a tiny-link to the Toshiba Display driver for your model. Make sure to choose the correct chipset (nvidia OR INTEL).

  • Tecra 8000 screen goes green

    I've got a Tecra 8000 running Win2000 with the latest drivers/bios, etc. It runs fine and everything, but has this peculiar problem. When first booting up, the display comes out fine, but then gets a green tint to everything. I can fix this by going into hibernate (or suspend) and turning the machine back on (out of hibernation).
    Likewise, if I run an app that changes res and goes to full screen (ie: MAME) the screen will go back to a green tint again, and won't go back to normal unless I hibernate->turn back on. Any ideas?

    Hi
    Did you try to connect the external monitor?
    If not try to connect the external monitor and check if this issue also happens on the second monitor.
    If not so I assume there is only something wrong with the display on the notebook but if this issue appears also on the external monitor so there could be a graphic card malfunction or also something wrong on the motherboard.
    Unfortunately I don't think that you can solve without any professional help.
    You should contact the Toshiba service partner in your country.
    Explain him the situation.

  • Display of leading zeros for a GL account in FS00

    Hi all,
    does anyone know is it possible to set something in SAP so that in transaction FS00 the gl account number is displayed with leading zeros? Now they are removed.
    Thanks!
    D.

    Hi Dusan,
    "Alpha conversion" is already implemented on the domain (SAKNR) itself. You can modify the system (take out conversion exit "ALPHA") from domain SAKNR but I'm guessing this might create inconsistencies in many other dictionary objects.
    I think it's better to consider alternavtives - like using character + number as GL account (e.g. A345999)..

  • Tecra 8000 - How to connect HDD to an other notebook?

    Hello, what kind of device do I need in order to connect an old Tecra 8000 hard drive to a notebook from an other manufacture?
    I just want to transfer some data but the ac connector on the Tecra no longer works.

    Hi!
    You can use an external HDD case with USB port for this.
    The external HDD case should be for 2.5 HDDs and with IDE interface. Thats all.
    Contact your local computer dealer. Im sure they will have such cases.
    Bye

  • Display numbers formatted with leading zeros or spaces.

    There are some cases where you might need to display numbers with leading zeros or leading spaces, or trailing zeros.  I experimented with several methods and came up with some examples.  This is a Console application, but the results can just
    as well be output to a listbox in a Windows form.
    Sub Main()
    Dim snum As String, inum As Integer = 56
    snum = inum.ToString()
    Console.WriteLine(snum & vbTab & " ToString()")
    snum = inum.ToString("D4") 'adds leading zeros
    Console.WriteLine(snum & vbTab & " ToString(""D4"")")
    snum = inum.ToString("F4") '4 decimal places with trailing zeros
    Console.WriteLine(snum & vbTab & " ToString(""F4"")")
    Console.WriteLine()
    snum = String.Format("{0,4}", inum) 'leading spaces
    Console.WriteLine(snum & vbTab & " Format{0,4}")
    snum = String.Format("{0:D4}", inum) 'leading zeros
    Console.WriteLine(snum & vbTab & " Format{0:D4}")
    snum = String.Format("{0:F4}", inum) '4 decimal places with trailing zeros
    Console.WriteLine(snum & vbTab & " Format{0:F4}")
    Console.WriteLine()
    snum = inum.ToString().PadLeft(4, "0"c) 'leading zeros
    Console.WriteLine(snum & vbTab & " PadLeft(4, ""0""c)")
    snum = inum.ToString().PadLeft(4, " "c) 'leading spaces
    Console.WriteLine(snum & vbTab & " PadLeft(4, "" ""c)")
    Console.ReadLine() Console.Clear()
            For x As Integer = 1 To 20
                snum = x.ToString("D4")
                Console.WriteLine(snum)
            Next x
            Console.ReadLine()
    End Sub
    Solitaire

    I would add that many of these methods also work with numeric types that are not integers.
    Note that the "D4" format string doesn't work for non-integral types (such as Double and Decimal), and the "F4" format string doesn't pad with trailing zeros, it rounds to 4 decimal places (which can lose information). PadLeft works with
    the entire string, it isn't aware of the decimal point.

  • Tecra 8000: No memory area available to communicate with PC Card

    I have a Tecra 8000 running Win98 SE and use a 3Com PCMCIA Card for my Internet Connection. I was troubleshooting my computer on another issue and in the process disabled the PCMCIA Toshiba ToPIC Cardbus Controllers. After enabling these again I am no longer able to communicate with the PC Card and therfore cannot connect to the Internet.
    PC Card Troubleshooting Agent states: 'Windows is not able to identify or use the inserted PC Card Device because there is no memory area available to communicate with this device. You must make a memory area available before this device can be used. Check your computer's CONFIG.SYS file for a memory manager that is excluding upper memory regions between A000 and FFFF'.
    My Cardbus Controllers are set as follows:
    1.Memory Range - 0C000000 - 0C000FFF
    2.Memory Range - 0C001000 - 0C001FFF
    My PC Card (PCMCIA) Properties are as follows:
    Card Services Shared Memory:
    Start 000C0000
    End 00FFFFFF
    Length 00001000
    Whilst the PC Card Modem is being recognised in the Port it cannot be communicated with and the error message is shown as follows:
    'Error 666: The modem is not plugged in or is out of service. Connect a modem to your computer and try again'.
    When I run Modem Diagnostics there is no response except for the following:
    'Open Comm: Couldn't open port'
    Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

    Hi Evan, I have had 2 PC cards damaged during bad thunderstorms in the past. Recently i helped someone to set up her Tecra8000 during another thunderstorm her new extension cable blew up silently! At first i didn't suspect it as the cable was brand new (cannot open port etc). Anyway, i tested the cable with a phone n it was dead and then i got a new extension cable for her from Argos the next day n it worked perfectly!
    If ur card is broken then i suggest u get a Phonic PC card V.92 from PC World. It's only 14.99 n the connection speed is surprisingly fast 112.5k ! (I used to pay for 50 !) faster than my new fancy laptop, the internal modem can only connect at 44k !
    Hope this helps. Let us know.
    PS I have since upgraded her laptop from Win98 to XP, it works rather well on the Tecra8000 (so far so good, she even managed to get her new printer working under XP without asking for my help!). if ur laptop meets the requirements, it MIGHT be worth considering upgrading it to XP.

  • Tecra 8000 will not boot-up

    My Tecra 8000 will not boot-up (was previously working fine).
    1. The red "TOSHIBA" icon comes-up and then it just "grey screens" on me.
    2. I can boot up to the A: drive using a boot disk, and I can see the hard drive (C:\) and it looks OK.
    3. I checked the BIOS settings (ESC, F1) and they look OK.
    4. I have Windows 2000 installed.
    Any suggestions? Thanks, Neil

    Hi
    It seems that the notebook passes properly the Toshiba screen.
    In this case there should be no problem with BIOS or hardware.
    Did you switch possibly to the external screen? I would recommend connecting the external display to check if something will appear.
    But if it doesnt help so possibly the corrupted HDD could be responsible for this issue.
    Did you try to boot up from the CD? Can you see something?

  • Tecra 8000 on XP pro ... how to adjust brightness

    Hi
    I have recently purchased a Tecra 8000 with XP Pro installed.
    Unfortunatly the LCD appears too bright but I can find no way of adjusting it.
    I understand that there is a display utility for adjusting toshiba laptop brightness.
    Can someone tell me if there is one for XP and if possible direct me to it
    cheers
    Michael

    Hi
    Usually the key combination FN+F6 and FN+F7 decreases or increases the display brightness.
    But this works only if the Toshiba drivers are preinstalled. So check firstly if you have installed all necessary drivers and utilities on your notebook.
    Do you know where to find the necessary drivers on the Toshiba page?

  • How to get sound working on W2k on Tecra 8000?

    Is there any way to get the sound to work on a Tecra 8000 using windows 2000 pro? I just upgraded from win 98 and the audio driver installs the Yamaha opl3-sax, but there is no sound. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling different drivers, but none seem to work.

    Hi
    I would also recommend checking the device manager. If there is no yellow exclamation marks near to the sound card so I would say the sound driver was successful installed and there must be something wrong with the audio settings.
    Did you check the sound and audio devices in the control panel? You should check all the sound controller if they are set to the higher level.
    Furthermore I would recommend checking the volume controller at the notebook side. Sometimes peoples forget to set it. ;)

  • Dimming Display Brightness to Zero

    Hello All,
    I have been having a problem with the display brightness adjustment for a long time. Basically, the display of my 17" 1GHz G4 cannot be dimmed to black. From the System Preferences the display brightness can be lowered with the slider. In the final third however dragging the slider further to the left not only does not reduce the brightness it actually slightly increase it, and the display start to flicker.
    Any ideas what could be the cause?

    That model doesn't support dimming the display brightness to zero, except through Energy Saver (which may not work with all third party USB devices), or a screen saver that has a picture that shows nothing but black. Some third party hacks dim the display, but they are not necessarily that reliable.
    Only Apple's notebook displays dim to full black.

  • Video Out - Tecra 8000

    I have a Tecra 8000 with Windows XP Pro installed.
    Everything works beautifully I have updated the BIOS to v9.3 - BUT I can't get the video out connections to work.
    I have tried the RCA plug on the back, and also connected the SVGA dongle to the side jack and used the composite video out on that, but no signal seems to come out of either of them.
    I have tinkered with the various different BIOS settings, used the Fn+F5 key all to no avail.
    I have read in the forum here that others have the same problem, so I'm adding a plea for help with this one too. Can I ask, has ANYONE managed to actually get a composite video signal out of their Tecra?

    Hi Peter
    If your Tecra is preinstalled with Toshiba Recovery CD all drivers and tools should work properly. In this case there are, in my opinion, two possible reasons why this not works. Either is notebook the cause for this issue or there is some problem with the TV and TV setting.
    Using FN+F5 key combination you can switch to external device. It will be interesting to know if this works properly with external monitor. It is not the same port but the tool is the same. You can also try to connect your notebook to another TV. It is sometimes not easy to say what the problem can be. If there is no way to have some success you need some professional help. Maybe the service partner can make a short check of composite video out port.
