Tecra 8200 Boot and os install !
I have a tecra 8200, cd player didn't work anymore so i bought a new one ... The diskette driver was also broken but i just bought a new external usb floppy driver. Everything works fine in windows but i want to reinstall my OS, but i can't seem to boot from external floppy drive or cd drive ... How can i solve this problem ? I edited my bios to boot from fdd, cdrom and hdd , but he doesn't boot, cd is bootable etc ... How can i solve this ?
Hey,
when you changed the old into a ew drive, was it the same model or a better one? Like SD-R2002 or
PA3014E-1DVD DVD Drive Kit
PA3015U-1CDD 24x CD-ROM Drive Kit II
PA3068U-1CD1 CD-R/RW Drive Kit
PA3073E-1CD2 CD-RW/DVD-ROM Drive Kit
These drive are supported by the Tecra 8200 series. Other Selcet Bay drive can also fit!
It can also help to do a BIOS update unless the newst one wasn't installed!

Trying to do pxe-boot and kickstart install on sunfire x4150 using NET MGT
I am trying to do pxe-boot and kickstart install on sunfire x4150 using NET MGT port. Is this doable? The eth0 port works fine, but the NET MGT port does not seems working. It gets the IP, gateway, mask and other info, but would not start the install. I heard that the NET MGT port is not capable of doing pxe-boot, please let me know if this is true.
Your help is appreciated.
ShengThe NET MGT port is for the ILOM. That interface is not visible to the Host OS so no it cannot be used for host communication including PXE booting...

Tecra 8200: I can't install Wlan driver for Windows XP
Hello ,
i can't find wireless driver for windows xp. I have Tecra 8200. I try to install a lot of drivers of the official page of Toshiba for Tecra 8200 but the drivers do not work.
If anyone know how i can install wireless in my tecra 8200, please let me know.Hi
Firstly what I want say is the Tecra 8200 was not delivered with Windows XP and you will not find any Wlan drivers for WinXP on the Toshiba website.
I have checked it and there are only drivers for W2k, NT, and W98SE.
But as far as I know the unit was delivered with the ORiNOCO specification Wlan miniPCI Card Wireless LAN standard: 802.11b
In this case I would recommend searching in the net for such drivers.
Unfortunately, this is all what I can suggest. -
Boot and OS install issues with K8T Neo2 F
Can anybody shed light on my difficulties?
Assembled a new computer yesterday. First power-on produced nothing except 3 (2,3,4) red leds on d-bracket. After reading several postings, tried the following:
Swapped around memory modules;
Did repeated JBAT1 data clears (NB if you happen to get a board with the V1.0 user guide, note that the JBAT1 diagram appears upside down - pin one is closest to the SATA slots (page 2 - 24). The MSI downloadable user guide (V1.2) has that error corrected (page 2-25)
The only memory config that doesn’t produce three red leds is with one 512 stick installed in channel 3 (green).
Can now get to the point where Windows XP boots to the point where install is about to start, and then advises me that it can’t find a hard disk!
Have dis/reconnected the sata cable (using different cables) and checked the bios setup but can find nothing strange except that setup refers to the hard disk as BBS 0 (RAID) ST3120827AS - the reference to “RAID” worries me.Paul, there have been people here that have had to strip their system down to the bare minimum hardware to get windows to complete the install, so try that. I had trouble completing my windows install as long as I was trying to install the RAID drivers at F6. So I ignored the prompt at F6 and windows installed fine. Then I installed my RAID drivers afterward.
These things are extremely sensitive when it comes to memory. I had the same problem you are having. Mine was cured by a BIOS upgrade to ver. 3.3. The simplest way to do it is to use "Live Watch". It will locate BIOS ver 3.3 for you, and download it to a floppy along with the flash program, and make it bootable all in one easy step. Then all you have to do is boot from the floppy you just made, and follow the instructions. Very simple.
I've read all these stickies and posts now going way back, and IMHO anyone who wants to use RAM thats not on the list should do so at their own risk. Interestingly enough, the recommended list from MSI is not the same as the list from AMD. And the memory manufacturers have their own lists of RAM that they say will work with this board. I'm using 2x 512 sticks of GEIL from the MSI recommended list.
Check out these links to see what I mean. By the way, if you haven't noticed, most of the older posts about memory problems are with respect to the K8T Neo FIS2R which is a socket 754 single channel board, so although they are similar, they're not the same. My point is just because his K8TNeo FIS2R works fine with brand "X" RAM doesn't mean your K8T NEO2 FIR will.

[SOLVED] Cloning boot and var partitions to a new drive for booting
Ok first of all here's my setup:
fakeraid (dmraid) / and home on an OCZ Revodrive
boot with GRUB on a flash drive (since fakeraid doesn't support grub)
var and downloads/media folder on a 500GB WD Caviar drive
When I originally installed Arch I had the Caviar drive in my home server in a RAID5 array, so that's why I opted to install boot and grub on a flash drive simply for booting. Now that I have the drive in my desktop I've cloned the flash drive's partitions and MBR using dd:
#dd if=/dev/sde of=~/MBR.img bs=512 count=1
#dd if=/dev/sde1 of=~/boot.img
#dd if=/dev/sdc1 of=~/var.img
I then backed up my downloads/media partition, then removed the partition table, then used dd to put the img files on the Caviar drive.
#dd if=~/MBR.img of=/dev/sdc bs=512 count=1
#dd of=~/boot.img of=/dev/sdc1
#dd of=~/var.img of=/dev/sdc2
I also created labels for the filesystems and put those in fstab.
I'm able to mount both partitions, however I can't boot from the drive. I get a 'grub hard disk error' (no error number) when I put it as my first drive in the BIOS.
I can still use the flash drive as the first hard drive in the BIOS and boot from it, then it mounts the dmraid root partition and boots successfully. It is also able to mount the var and boot partitions in fstab.
Basically the only problem is that the MBR is somehow wrong. I then tried booting back into an Arch live USB and installing GRUB from the prompt:
grub
grub>setup (hd4,0) (in this case the Caviar drive's boot partition was /dev/sde1
So essentially what I'm asking is how GRUB handles the MBR. Is it specific to the partition table of the drive in which it resides when it's originally installed? For instance, since I had an 8GB flash drive with 2 partitions when I installed GRUB, is the backed up MBR no good for a 500GB drive with 3 partitions?
I have everything backed up so I can start with a fresh /boot and /var if need be....I'm just not sure where to start.
Thanks in advance.
Last edited by DarksideEE7 (2011-02-13 23:25:31)Sorry, I forgot to mention that I tried to install GRUB from the GRUB shell in a live Arch USB. It failed on a few non-critical parts, and succeeded on the last part. I'm going to try again shortly, possibly I did something wrong. GRUB is able to find the stage files using:
#grub
grub>find /grub/stage1
grub> find /grub/stage1
(hd0,0)
(hd5,0)
grub>
(hd0,0) is the desired boot drive, while (hd5,0) is the current bootable flash drive with /boot and GRUB installed.

I'm using dmraid, so just to be clear I've configured the raid using:
#modprobe dm_mod
#dmraid -ay
Then I saw the array stored in /dev/mapper/silXXXXX. I then created partitions for /boot, /, and home. At that time I was hoping to get GRUB working with the AUR package grub2-dmraid. I wasn't able to get it working for some time, so I just went ahead and installed boot and GRUB to a separate USB flash drive.

Also I don't have a /proc/mdstat. That's only for mdadm RAID setups, right? It's been quite some time since I've used mdadm so I can't remember.
EDIT:
So I booted into a live Arch USB and entered the grub shell. I ran:
#grub
grub> root (hd3,0)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
grub> setup (hd3)
Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists.....no
Checking if "/grub/stage1 exists.......yes
Checking if "/grub/stage2 exists.......yes
Checking if "/grub/e2fs_stage1_5 exists....yes
Running "embed /grub/e2fs_stage1_5 (hd3)".....25 sectors are embedded.
succeeded
Running "install /grub/stage1 (hd3) (hd3))1+25 p (hd3,0)/grub/stage2 /grub/menu.lst".......succeeded
Done.
Last time I recall more errors than this, then it reporting that one was a non-critical error, so I think the problem may be solved. More to come.

Tecra S1 doesn't boot and hangs at (boot) splash screen
Tecra S1 Model PT831E-107EQ-GR
Problems started a month ago. It randomly didn't booted. After some power off/on tries it finally booted and worked properly. Because it happened more often I've bought a new hard drive (Toshiba 40 GB). I've had Acronis True Image and planned to make a disk clone to the new drive. The problem is that a notebook now doesn't boot anymore so I cannot boot it from A CD nor hard drive. It stops at "In Touch..." logo with "Press [F12] for the boot device selection menu" text and doesn't react any key. I tried to boot with no CD, no hard drive - the same. I also connected internal HD using ATA-To-USB adapter - the same. Does it mean that's not a disk problem but motherboard or other components? Is it possible to enter BIOS before boot selection screen?
Regards,
JacekProblem solved. There was a broken PCB under the CPU socket. I've found that pressing with my finger and holding CPU while booting allowed to startup the system while releasing the finger caused system hanging and its total crash. Our local service tried to repair it but with no success. Finally two days ago we've found a working motherboard (a used one) for about 200 USD and now I'm waiting for installing it in the laptop. Th regular price for a new one (about 400 Euro) is too much, but 200 USD is OK. I do like the laptop because of its ports (LPT, RS232). It's used for programming and controlling some older devices. Newer laptops have no LPTs nor RS232s and it's not easy to find a working USB adapter because the software we're using is even from DOS times and has hard-coded IRQs for those ports.
Anyway, I hope it'll back from the service fresh and new, and of course working ;)
Thank you for your tips.

Not able installing internal Wireless Adapter on Tecra 8200
Dear all,
i've got a Tecra 8200
After installing WinXP Pro, the Wireless Adapter will only be found as PCMCIA MTD-0002.
I,m unable to install Drivers for the Adapter.
XP is with SP2
Bios is 1.60
Could anybody help me what to do, thanks in advance.
Brgds,
ThomasHi,
if you have the Agere MiniPCI WLAN card installed, the system needs to install the following registry key with the driver for the WLAN card:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Pcmcia\Parameters]
"IrqRouteToPciController"=dword:00000006
I've found an installation instruction:
1. Clean install Windows XP Service Pack 2 package
or Clean install the Windows XP Gold package and install Service Pack 2 update image on it.
2. Copy the TICardBusIrqRouting.reg to the system, then click the file on the system.
3. The following window will appear,
"Are you sure you want to add the information in xxxxx\DISABL~1.REG to the registry"
Then select "Yes".
xxxxx is the location of TICardBusIrqRouting.reg
4. The following window will appear,
"Information in xxxxx\DISABL~1.REG has been successfully entered into the registry."
Then click "OK".
xxxxx is the location of TICardBusIrqRouting.reg
5. Reboot the system
Good luck!

This computer used to boot up in about 30 seconds, now it's minutes, programs are starting to freeze, or take a long time to boot. I suspect it's bits and fragments from programs that I have used and deleted over the years, but are still floating around inside my iMac. I really don't want to re-format and re-install OSX but the lack of performance is finally starting to irritate me. (Haveing switched from windows in 2009, I can tell you, I used to reformat and re-install windows about every 3 months because I liked that fresh fast boot up feel.) Any advice is welcome. Here's a printout from a program that lists everything using my system.
Thanks.

I installed a samsung 840 pro SSD to my primary slot and relocated my 1.5 TB HDD to a data double where my optical drive was. I transfered my apps and Mac OS X to my SSD for fast boots and all my itunes movies, music, Iphoto etc to my HDD. I rebooted off my SSD then seen all the data on my HHD itunes movies, music, iphotos etc i cannot view on my SSD. So my question is how do you view all the content on both the ssd and hdd on the same screen with having to boot off one or the other?
No, what I'm saying is that once you boot into OSX, you should be able to see both drives listed. If you don't then either OSX is hiding the other drive because it sees it as a boot drive and is trying to protect the contents from novice users or there's another problem. If it's the first thing (i.e. it's a protection thing), then your only option would be to boot into the old drive, copy off all your personal data to an external backup drive, then reboot into the SSD and go into Disk Utilities and wipe/reformat the second drive so that you can see it as a regular secondary drive. Then when you see it as that, you can copy your data back to it.
Be carefull poking around in Disk Utility as you can easily lose your data. It's possible the Mac just isn't mounting that second drive because it sees it as another boot drive. Whatever you do, don't accidentally erase it without getting a copy of your data off of it because you obviously don't have that on your SSD now. -
hey, I want to install windows on my mac, I have mac osx lion and I'm soon going to get mountain lion. If I use Boot camp to install windows do I need a windows disc, will i lose all my data, etc. If so how to I save them. Can I switch back to osx after I install windows. ( can I switch between Windows and OS X as many times as I want.) thanks for answering.

So I came to this problem a while ago. M ycomputer basically froze so I was forced to shut down by holding the button down. When I started it up I got the flashing folder with a question mark. I started it up holding down the command and r keys which brought me to disk utility. Although my computer doesn't read that I have a hard drive to start it up. When I click on the disk utility app, I cannot verify or repair anything either. The buttons won't allow me to click on them. It also shows "Mac OSX Base System" which shows I have files and what not saved. I had been told that I need a new hard drive so I bought and manually installed a OWC SSD 240GB drive and when i booted the computer up it booted up yo the operating system fine with all my files and what not on there. After about twenty minutes, it froze again. I forced a shut down, restarted and the same thing happened. I am not able to choose my SSD to boot up, although thats probably because it doesn't have an operating system installed on it??
i have a Macbook Pro 13" 2011
any help would be great, I'm overall confused.ryansaint11,
this isn’t Apple support; this is a user-to-user forum. We’re just fellow users of Apple products here.
If you want to boot from your SSD, then you should put the SSD where your HDD currently is, and put the HDD into the optical bay. (That setup will also get you the best performance.) At the moment, you’re still booting from your HDD. Note that you will need to format your SSD in Disk Utility [with the “Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)” format] so that you can install OS X onto it.
Since you have an Early 2011 model, it might or might not have originally come with grey installation DVDs. You will be able to find out whether it did or not by trying to use OS X Internet Recovery to install OS X onto your SSD. If it does not work, or if the installed OS turns out to be Snow Leopard, then it will have originally come with the DVDs, and you should purchase a replacement pair of DVDs from Apple or iFixit; those discs will have your MacBook Pro’s Apple Hardware Test and its iLife apps. If the installed OS turns out to be Lion, then it will not originally have come with the grey installation DVDs, and your Apple Hardware Test will be installed along with Lion, and your iLife apps will be downloadable from the Mac App Store. -
I Mini with an i7 processor. I would like to use Boot Camp to install windows based CAD software on my MAC. Would it be better to use a plugin external hard drive to load my software on and if so what hard drive would you recommend?
Thank you for your quick response. I can then use a ZIP drive for data storage. I want to keep as much of my hard drive free of data as possible.

When will Windows 8.1 be supported on Boot camp 5? I have a new Mac book Pro 2013 and cannot install. Do I return the Windows version and try to download 8.0, or wait it out until it is supported? New to Mac's.
Apple please advise.Apple does not respond in these forums except occasionally an Apple employee will stop by. If you want to contact Apple, use the contact us link at the bottom of this page.
With respect to your question "When will Windows 8.1 be supported on Boot camp 5?" you are asking us to speculate as to when Apple will release their drivers supporting Windows 8.1. We do not know, and we can not speculate as to when. From the terms of use of this forum:
"Unless otherwise noted, do not add Submissions about nontechnical topics, including:
Speculations or rumors about unannounced products."
The planned dates of production or release of Windows 8.1 drivers are speculation about the drivers.
With respect to your other question, "Do I return the Windows version and try to download 8.0, or wait it out until it is supported? New to Mac's.". I answered you. -
Lion iMac won't boot and can't re-install OS as disk locked.
Hi, my iMac was purchased in 2011 and is running Lion, Mac OS X 10.7.5.
On Monday it stopped booting and gets stuck at the apple logo and spinning thingy.
I have tried to Verify and Repair the Macintosh HD disk but both fail. Next step I wanted to try was to re-install the OS which I understand will keep my settings and data. When I go into this option the disc is greyed out and it says "The disk is locked".
Do I need to unlock the disc, if so then any ideas how I do this ??
What other diagnostics should I try ??
Many thanks in advance for help. When you try to install and check your hard drive, and you starting the computer from the recovery partition.
Restarting your computer by holding down the command + R, Additional if you have access to DiskWarrior you should give that a try to repair your hard drive.
Take a look at this link, http://www.apple.com/support/imac-harddrive/
