Tecra 8200 wireless question

Okay this is probably a stupid question but I have a Tecra 8200 .
Do I have to buy something else for the wireless connection to work?

Hi
This question is not stupid ;) because the Tecra 8200 was equipped optional with the internal minPCI WLan card. This could be a little bit confusing.
So in some Tecra 8200 units the WLan is already included and in some Tecras the minPCI WLan card must be installed firstly to use the WLan technology.
You should check your device manager if an WLan module is listed in Network adepter
If its already listed then you dont need an additional WLan card.
If its not listed, then you will have to upgrade the machine with the minPCI WLan card or with a USB WLan stick.
As far as I know the PA3070U-1MPC Wireless LAN mini-PCI card coudl be compatible with your notebook.

  • Not able installing internal Wireless Adapter on Tecra 8200

    Dear all,
    i've got a Tecra 8200
After installing WinXP Pro, the Wireless Adapter will only be found as PCMCIA MTD-0002.
I,m unable to install Drivers for the Adapter.
    XP is with SP2
    Bios is 1.60
Could anybody help me what to do, thanks in advance.
    Brgds,

    Hi,
if you have the Agere MiniPCI WLAN card installed, the system needs to install the following registry key with the driver for the WLAN card:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Pcmcia\Parameters]
    "IrqRouteToPciController"=dword:00000006
    I've found an installation instruction:
    1. Clean install Windows XP Service Pack 2 package
or Clean install the Windows XP Gold package and install Service Pack 2 update image on it.
    2. Copy the TICardBusIrqRouting.reg to the system, then click the file on the system.
    3. The following window will appear,
"Are you sure you want to add the information in xxxxx\DISABL~1.REG to the registry"
    Then select "Yes".
xxxxx is the location of TICardBusIrqRouting.reg
    4. The following window will appear,
"Information in xxxxx\DISABL~1.REG has been successfully entered into the registry."
    Then click "OK".
xxxxx is the location of TICardBusIrqRouting.reg
    5. Reboot the system
    Good luck!

  • Tecra 8200: I can't install Wlan driver for Windows XP

    Hello ,
i can't find wireless driver for windows xp. I have Tecra 8200. I try to install a lot of drivers of the official page of Toshiba for Tecra 8200 but the drivers do not work.
If anyone know how i can install wireless in my tecra 8200, please let me know.

    Hi
Firstly what I want say is the Tecra 8200 was not delivered with Windows XP and you will not find any Wlan drivers for WinXP on the Toshiba website.
I have checked it and there are only drivers for W2k, NT, and W98SE.
But as far as I know the unit was delivered with the ORiNOCO specification Wlan miniPCI Card Wireless LAN standard: 802.11b
In this case I would recommend searching in the net for such drivers.
Unfortunately, this is all what I can suggest.

  • Tecra 8200 Upgrade?

    Hi there:-)
I've just bought used Tecra 8200 PIII850MHz 20GB HDD 256MB RAM and Ia have a question - theoretically, if I flash the newest BIOS, what is the maximu CPU frequency that can insertend in the laptop ( will PIII 1,2GHz work with it, or maybe just 1GHz?)? How about HDD - will it work with 40 GB( or bigger) Toshiba HDD? Specs that can be found on Toshiba Website say about 30GB HDD's but I hope they are a bit outdated;-)
    Regards to all
    Michael Kornacki

    Hi MicKor,
the maximum CPU frequency is 1.0Ghz
and the maximum HDD memory is 30GB

  • Where can I download drivers and manual for Tecra 8200

Where can I download the drivers and manual for a TECRA 8200 (PIII 900/128/20/CD)

Take a look on this Toshiba European website:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
There you will find an Support homepage which contains different links to the drivers and manuals.
Then you have to choose the *ARCHIVE* in the download form!
This unit is an oldie and therefore all manuals and drivers were moved to the Archive.

  • LCD screen brilliance control on Tecra 8200

My Tecra 8200 PT820E has at some time been formatted minus the Tosh. control software. Hand book says go to Control Panel/power saving and alter screen brilliance there. That does not exist on my machine.
The problem is when on battery power the brilliance level drops to an unreadable level. Is there any other way to increase the brightness level?
    Thanks.

You can do this very easy by using FN+F7 to raise brightness level.
And I think it is supposed to be the Toshiba Power Saver where you have to look for that option.
This little utility can handle behaviour for power saving modes and there is an option how much display is darkened.

  • Tecra 8200 wont start (blank screen)

    Hi.
A friend of mine has asked me to help her with Tecra 8200 her notebook with WinXP/SP1 installed was sluggish. Being a gentleman, Ive accepted a call, and reinstalled WinXP Pro (originally, this model was shipped with Win98SE). Installation went right, but Ive noticed error entries in System Log regarding BIOS ACPI compliance (once, each time upon machine startup). I continued, installed SP1, successfully, but the ACPI problem remained. Everything else was fine (all HW detected, and appropriate (Microsoft/default) drivers installed). I was thinking of checking for a new BIOS release on Toshibas site, but I left BIOS update procedure for some other occasion.
Then, being intrigued with a problem, I have "cleverly" decided to actually test ACPI, so I put notebook in standby. And, that was it: now, machine doesnt want to start! The screen is blank, HDD is not spinning up, CPU fan is silent Power button is operational, but all I get is Power LED lit up Frustrating! I have tried to revive the machine with standard emergency procedure (switching off, and then back on, taking out battery pack, pressing various key combinations to enter BIOS setup) but accomplished NOTHING.
Searching posted notes on this forum, I have come only to one conclusion: "hardware malfunction take your notebook to ASP".
Is there anything else I could try?
    Thnks, in advance.

    Hi Igor
All you tried was right but if there is no possibility to enter BIOS something is obviously faulty.
Sorry but it can really be some hardware problem.

  • Pcmcia usb controller doesn't work with Tecra 8200

    Hi,
I have an old TECRA 8200 notebook (Intel Pentium III, 847 MHz, 512 MB RAM) OS: WIN XP with latest patches. For it has no USB 2.0 I have bought a PCMCIA USB Controller (Chip NEC). The controller has been recognised but XP is asking for a driver. The controller hasn't been delivered with a driver.
Does any one has an idea how I could get the controller up and running.
    thanks
    regards
    Fred

I mean, independet from the fact that this is not really a toshiba related problem, could you please post the name of the USB PCMCIA device?
I mean the manufacturer or something because if XP asks for a driver then there should be one available, or?
Please, give a feedback and what you could do additionally is to google for the PCMCIA device. The best way is often to search for the chip (in your case NEC).
    Regards

  • Tecra 8200 - Which notebook Model number do I have?

    High all
Can anyone tell me how to tell what the model I have? I am trying to download the drivers for my machine but am not sure what series / model it is.
I have the following information on the base of the machine:
    TOSIBA Tecra 8200
    Model No: PT820E-05WQT-E
    Serial No: 61276516G ST820-0
It is a Pentium 3 machine but is it an: A / M / R / S series? Then what model do I select after that please?
    Thanks.

Your Tecra is simply Tecra 8200 and there is no other model number.
Drivers you can find on Toshiba download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads but under Product type you must choose option ARCHIVE.
Then you will find option for Tecra 8200.
    Good luck!

  • Tecra 8200 Identity?

I want to update this NB as I have only just got it second hand. Info on the label doesn't seem to correspond to what Tosh. are asking me. Model Number: PT8200E-05WQP-GR. P3 750Mhz. I dont know whether it is a A2 A3 A8 etc etc. Ta.

The reason why you cannot find your machine is because youre searching in the wrong section.
Your machine is a little bit older and doesnt belongs to the new generation of toshiba notebooks. To find the drivers and the BIOS update, you will have to choose Archive in the Drivers Download section.
Heres some short description to find your machine in the drivers section:
Go to the Drivers Download section and choose:
    "Product type" -> Archive
    "Family" -> Tecra-Archive
    "Product series" -> Tecra 8xxx
    "Model" -> Tecra 8200
    "Short model number" -> PT820E
Afterwards choose the operating system where you need drivers. The BIOS update is included in the driver list.

  • Tecra 8200: drive will not read DVD-R or DVD+RW

    I have a Tecra 8200 running on Win98.
It has an SD-R2002 Rev A combo drive with firmware 1324.
It reads commercial DVDs OK, but will not read DVD-R or DVD+RW (booktype set to DVD-ROM) disks (I don't have any other types to try).
Is this correct or is the drive faulty?
If it is broken I would like to replace it with a DVD writer. Is there a writer that will fit this laptop?

The drive is not faulty. It is just DVD-CDRW drive, as Gipsy said.
I didnt find any info about compatible DVD burner for this unit. Problem is that this unit has no firewire or USB 2.0 ports and you can not even use external one. Maybe if you use USB 2.0 PCMCIA card.
The unit is about 5 or even 6 years old and you maybe expect too much. ;)

  • Tecra 8200 Boot and os install !

    Hey,
when you changed the old into a ew drive, was it the same model or a better one? Like SD-R2002 or
    PA3014E-1DVD DVD Drive Kit
    PA3015U-1CDD 24x CD-ROM Drive Kit II
    PA3068U-1CD1 CD-R/RW Drive Kit
    PA3073E-1CD2 CD-RW/DVD-ROM Drive Kit
These drive are supported by the Tecra 8200 series. Other Selcet Bay drive can also fit!
It can also help to do a BIOS update unless the newst one wasn't installed!

  • Tecra 8200: Question about screen 14.1 replacement

Hi, my screen only shows the left hand side, a line goes down the middle and the right hand side is blank. If I hold the screen outer tightly on the top left hand side, the whole screen lights up as normal. I have attached a remote screen and this works fine. I have been told this is a screen fault.
The screen part No is LTM14C438, they are very expensive. I can get a different screen number (LTM14C433), which is a 20 pin toshiba from a TE2000, and I am told it will work.
Can anyone confirm this, thanks, Allan

Thanks for reply. I saw a screen on Ebay and asked the question, the reply was that he did not know for sure, however if it was a 20 pin connection and the conection was in the same place, he was sure it would work. I was just trying to confirm. I rang Toshiba, they gave me 3 compatibale Part No's. They then informed me a new screen would be about 284. I am persisting with a remote screen until I find out one way or another. Thanks again. Allan
