Tecra A11 Fan Problem

TECRA A11
PTSE3U-0C9TM6
Windows 7 Professional  6.1.7601 Service Pack 1
BIOS 3.20
Hi
My computer has a fan problem, sometimes fan speed up to maximum speed and the computer lockup. So I have to restart the computer. I have installed firmware updates but problem remains.
Someone have had this problem? Any solution?
Regards

Hi,
This issue had nothing to do with heat at all in my case. What you need to do is goto device manager, and then go under Universal Serial Bus controllers. From there you want to goto the properties of each Hub and Root Hub and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in the Power Management tab. Do this for all the hubs and root hubs.
I am not sure what causes this issue, but this has been a fix for us.
I made an account just to let you know! This issue took me a good week or two to narrow down.

  • Re: BIOS version 3.30 Tecra A11/M11: Problems with Ubuntu systems?

I just got the invitation to update to BIOS version 3.30 on my Tecra A11/M11.
I'm still running Win7 right now but plan to add a dual boot with Ubuntu when the next LTS hits in April.
Is anyone having trouble with the new BIOS?
Should I upgrade, or leave 3.20 intact?
I find no evidence of trouble with 3.20.

Why to upgrade the BIOS if everything is OK?
Furthermore as far as I know Toshiba does not support the Linux OS and I doubt the new BIOS would improve any Linux performance so if you are happy with the v3.20, stay with that

  • Tecra A11-11N does not boot after CPU upgrade

    Hi,
I would like to do a processor upgrade for my Tecra A11 11N from the i5-430M to a probably much faster i5.I thought the i5-580M would do, but the laptop did not boot when i installed this processor.
I reverted back to the 430M, did some research on the internet and found out that the 580M has a very high FSB speed and that is what probably made it not to work/incompatible with my machine.
    http://ark.intel.com/products/43537/
    http://ark.intel.com/products/49653
    http://ark.intel.com/products/49652
    and also at http://ark.intel.com/
Now i went back to the computer shop, returned the 580M and got an i5-560M as i compared it's specs and saw it would be compatible as it has the same FSB speed with the 430M.
I then later on in the day tried to install this cpu as an upgrade BUT alas!
    It STILL WON'T BOOT ALSO.
I was left dumfounded.Processors in the same familly line are supposed to be compatible with one another provided:Lithography, FSB and socket type are similar.
Or what am i missing here?
I have done processor upgrades in many instances for both desktops and laptops and this is the first one that has left me with no words to say!
    please offer some help/advice.

I solved this processor upgrade problem on my own.
I did some little research on what limits processor upgradability on computers and i
found out that BIOS was one of the factors that play a key part.
    So,i went on a mission
to see if i could upgrade my BIOS and whether it would solve my problem.
I found this link to be very informative:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=66624
I then downloaded the latest BIOS version for my laptop from this link:
    http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_bios.jsp
The following link gave me proof that the BIOS update would not bring any problems to my
machine and that there is already someone who had done it and not encountered any problems.
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=62459
Just to make sure that you are on the safe side, before carrying out the procedure to update
your BIOS,make sure you have a fully charged battery in addition to the AC plugged in.A power
outtage during this procedure would instantly kill your machine.
The BIOS installation took less than 3 mins.I copied the executable on the desktop and run it
    from there.
On rebooting, the new BIOS was installed. The new BIOS version was 3.40 dated on 05/18/2012 while
the older one was version 2.0 dated on 04/03/2010.
    From Intel's website,the i5-430M was released on Q1 2010 while the i5-560M and i5-580M were
    released on Q3 2010.
It is pretty obvious that by the time BIOS version 2.0 was release, these two newer processors
had not been released and that explains why they were not being recognized when i installed them.
I finally swapped the 430M with the 560M,assembled back the machine and powered it.
Voil!,the machine booted to it's new life.Everything is as was before!
So far i have not seen any problems even to do with overheating or the cooling fan spinning any
faster that before. It is all the same as before. There is considerable performance gain with the
uprade.I am a software developer and my various development enviroments including compilers,
debuggers, database and deployment servers have all been running way way faster than they were!
I believe the 580M can also work but unfortunately i had returned it back to the shop.
There is no reason for buying new machines when we can upgrade the ones we have. What will
happen to the older ones? This means more electronic waste and so does new machines.Let us try
to make better use of the ones we have a in turn,SAVE OUR ONLY PLANET EARTH FROM GLOBAL WARMING!

  • Tecra A11-1EG - cannot access BIOS after setting supervisor password

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help ?
We have just started to put a supervisor password onto our Tecra A11 laptops so our pupils cannot set passwords on the hard drive etc.
To get into the BIOS and set a BIOS password, we press F2 as the machine starts.
We then go into the security option, then supervisor password.
Having entered the password we want to use twice, we press F10 to save etc.
The machine starts ok and goes in to windows without a hitch.
The problem we have now is that we cannot get back into the bios at all.
As the machine starts we press the F2 key as before but unlike previously the screen just remains blank and the 'Toshiba leading Innovation >>>' screen no longer appears.
If we keep our finger on the F" key or keep pressing it the laptop just restarts without ever getting to the BIOS screen where I assume we will get asked for the supervisor password we set earlier?
Is there another key we should be pressing as the laptop starts ?
I should add we have added a supervisor password for the BIOS security screen on three of our laptops and all three have the same issue.
    Thanks
    Steve

I think this should be useful for you:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB0B032D0000R01.htm
In some cases you need to press the "INS" key while Toshiba logo appears.
Then a prompt for the Supervisor Password would appear and if the password is certified then the BIOS could be entered by pressing the "F2" key.

  • Tecra A11 - No Video via mini DisplayPort

    Hi There,
I've recently aquired a Tecra A11 through my company that has two external video ports: VGA and mini DisplayPort.
With my previous laptop I ran two External displays while the laptop was closed and I would like to achieve this with my new Tecra A11. In attempts to achieve the same setup I have purchased a mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable from MonoPrice.com.
Unforunately when trying to use the mini DisplayPort->HDMI cable with the HP monitor I cannot manage to aquire a signal or get anything to display. This happens both when trying to run dual monitors miniDP/VGA and when I only try to run a single external display with the mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable.
I have downloaded the latest Video Drivers for the Tecra A11 but it still cannot see the External Monitor through the mini DisplayPort. Is there something special I have to enable in order for the mini DisplayPort to pump out a signal? or am I missing something here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I greatly miss my large monitors.
    Regards,
    Lando

    Hello Lando,
I have exactly the same problem with an S11-160 Tecra laptop. Did you find any solution ??
    Thanks

  • Tecra A11 - LED backlight issue

I have big pain in my eyes after day of work with Tecra A11 BIOS V1.7 = newest BIOS update. Wenn I bought it there was BIOS 1.4 the same problem with eyes, LED backlight killing my eyes, big pain after day of work. V1.5 and 1.6 are much better (no pain) but new BIOS 1.7 is the same eye-killer as 1.4.
Who is going to help me? Users of this forum?
I want Toshiba people to help me, they sell 1/2 ready product, absolutely bad work! No contacts to Toshiba just this user forum. Is Toshiba interested in my problem with his bad Tecra A11 notebook and stupid BIOS updates? I am really angry, never had such problems with so expensive notebook. So excuse my emoutions I start to hate Toshiba for the extremly bad experience with this Tecra A11. Why should some users of this forum help me? I paid a lot of money to Toshiba, so I want Toshiba people to tell me what they do in their BIOS updates, what stupidity kill my eyes with LCD backlight. How many BIOS updates will be needed to make Tecra A11 working properly for 800 EUR? I will never more buy something from Toshiba.

    Thanks Xardas,
One week and we have BIOS Update 1.9 !! = aproximately one update a week. On one side very nice to see that Toshiba takes care of the problems. On other hand why are so many updates needed? Was this Tecra A11 is sold as final product with 1/2 unfunctional BIOS? Wenn I bougt it I had BIOS 1.4 and I tell you there were mistakes even when you went through the menu, so if someone tested it in Toshiba he could see it. So I have really feeling that Toshiba didnot test BIOS properly. That is maybe why they need to update BIOS so oft. They use users as testers, what is for some rare problems OK, but not for common bugs!
Why does not Toshiba describe what exactly is updated in new BIOS version? Where can I find this information, e.g. what is changed between BIOS 1.6 and 1.7 and so on.? I need this information because I really do not know what is going to happen if I update to 1.9 now. I do not want to spend another day with playing with bios, and in worst case to kill my eyes with bug in LED Backlight. So where can I find what is new in BIOS 1.9 ?
My LED Backlighting problem is in BIOS 1.4 and 1.7. You cannot see that something is happening, but after day of work (8 hours) I cannot look at Tecra A11 monitor any more, because of pain iu my eyes. I thing this happens because LEDs in Backlight are too strong and maybe Toshiba uses some kind of pulse modulation to control LED brightnes. So you see brightnees is low (no strong), but in reality maybe you get a strong flasshing LED light into your eyes whitout brain sense for it. So you see normal backlight, but mayby you become very short time strong impulses of LED full intensity into your eyes what you do not notice, only as pain after many hours. This is my explanaition but I didnot measured it. Toshiba sold notebook with Bios 1.4 and immediately updated to 1.5 where this problem was solved. Thats why I was thinking that they know about this problem and they just solved it for ever. But in V1.7 problem ware back, and my eyes took 2 days to recover from pain. So it is really angry bug and I do not know if to stay by Bios 1.6 or to try update to 1.9. I want Toshiba to describe what is going on in BIOS updates.
Maybe this is problem of only my notebook so I will try to contact authoorized service provider, but I would be really positively suprised if they know what to do with it. We will see. But please if you know, answer me where is information what is new in BIOS Updates from Toshiba. Thanks

  • Tecra A11 - No Video via mini DisplayPort

    Hi There,
I just recently purchased a mini DisplayPort -> HDMI cable to be used with my Tecra A11 Notebook. My intention was to run two external displays by running a VGA cable to my LG W2242 Monitor and run the mini-DP to HDMI cable to my HP 2509m Monitor. Unfortunately I cannot get my HP monitor to recognize the Video Signal from the mini DIsplayPort.
I have downloaded the newest drivers for my laptop, but still no luck. Is there anything special I need to do to get the mini DisplayPort to send a Video Signal?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Landon

The Tecra A11 I have purchased (the A11-00N) only has two external video ports; A mini DisplayPort and a VGA.
I am currently running the Tecra A11 hooked up via the VGA Port to my HP 2509m Monitor. When unplugging the VGA cable and attempting to use just the mini DisplayPort to attach a SINGLE external Monitor I still have trouble getting a signal.
@Andrej - I'm currently attempting to attach 2 external monitors while closing the lid of the built-in display. In any case this should work as the laptop would still be only running 2 displays total.
What troubles me is that the mini DisplayPort doesn't work in a single display setup. I am going to attempt using the cable with a MacBook Pro later today and hopefully it will help in pointing to the root of the problem.

  • Tecra A11 - Serial port not working

    I have a Tecra A11 running windows 7 professional (32 bit).
My serial port does not appear to be operating as I am no longer able to connect to industrial automation PLC's which require connection to the serial port for programming.
Some of the software I am using is RSLinx, Easysoft and the like.
Any assistance with this matter will be greatly appreciated.

    Hello
I assume you need the notebook at your company and normally in every company there is a local IT-Support that you can ask all questions if you have any problems.
So I would recommend contacting an administrator. Usually the guys know how to connect the computers to all important industrial components/computers and how to configure the port for that.

  • Cannot open locked files using fingerprint on Tecra A11-17H

    Hello,
    I have a Toshiba Tecra A11-17H - PTSE0E 03402EFR
Operating system is Windows 7 64bit
    Here is my problem :
I locked files (image, text) with fingerprint, while I was running Windows XP Professional.
I copied my files without unlocked on external hard drive, then uninstalled XP and installed Windows 7.
After the reinstallation, the fingerprint reader has stopped working.
I had to download the drivers and software from the Toshiba website.
I then put my transferred to the external hard drive on the computer but now it is unable to open the file.
Extension has been changed (automatically), a fpl . came to added after the original extension .
I tried deleted fpl but nothing happens.
When I do right click, I do not have the option "unlock, but rather "to protect the file".
I understand (reading the forum) that fingerprint technology TPM consists of a chip containing a decryption key unique to the computer.
Theoretically, it would be possible to unlock my files, since it is the same computer ...
    Help me please ....

    Please read this:
[Cannot access fingerprint-protected files after recovery|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9802O50000R01.htm]
    _Issue:_
A user cannot access his fingerprint protected files when backing up these files on external storage like e.g. a network drive and performing a recovery or reinstallation of the operating system on the machine where the files were protected.
    _Summary:_
The AuthenTec fingerprint software provides a feature called "protecting files/folders" which gives the user the ability to protect files regardless if stored locally, on external media (USB flash memory) or network storage with either a password or the stored fingerprints. After protecting the files, they cannot be moved/copied/deleted anymore until the user unprotects them.
The root cause of the above mentioned scenario is because of the fact that the "Authentec" fingerprint software is creating a connection between the installed fingerprint hardware and the filesystem on the HDD which acts like a key. This connection is removed after formatting or deleting the harddisk of the computer. Without this connection, the files cannot be accessed anymore and the user will not be able to unprotect them since there is no "key" which could unlock the file-protection.
    _Resolution:_
To prevent data loss caused by such scenario, *the user needs to unprotect the files before storing the files on external media* for backup/storage purposes and afterwards reinstalling the operating system.
Users should generally make sure to keep an accessible backup on an external storage media in case of data loss and data corruption.

  • Tecra A11 - keyboard space key issue

Just wonder, if someone with an A11 has similar issues or if my keyboard needs to be replaced.
When I am typing, very often the space key is not accepted. Very annoying when you type without looking at the text all the time.

    Hello
Im not Tecra A11 owner but on my other Toshiba notebooks I never had a problem with the keyboard. Every key will recognized properly if I press it.
I assume your Tecra A11 is pretty new and so its still under warranty. Therefore contact nearest authorized service provider. The guys can replace the keyboard because there are no single keys available.
But dont be worry about this, this is covered by warranty. :)

I have an issue with the operating system, Windows XP SP3, it doesn't recognize a device from the laptop and shows the Hardware wizard from Windows XP.
The computer worked without problem since the purchase but now ocurred this issue.
We have tried the automatic install provided by Windows with no avail. Windows didn't install the driver.
In the Windows device manager, we see a device with a exclamation mark, as "Unknown device".
In the properties dialog of such device, Windows reports that it have no driver installed.
In the Details tab, the system shows de Device Instance ID: ACPI\IFX0102\4&375529C7&0

  • Tecra A11-19L PTSE0E: totally freezed sometimes

It happens sometimes that my Tecra A11-19L is freezed and shows no reaction to any user interaction.
After a few seconds I hear that the fan goes up to the highest speed - so I assume that the CPU is running in a infinite loop.
The only way to get out of this state is to hard shut down the whole notebook.
Can anyone give me a hint how to solve this issue, or how to locate the faulty component?
    Regards,
    Widi

Do you have an installed fingerprint software?
If yes, its strongly recommend to update your Toshiba Fingerprint Software immediately to version V1.0.2.32 or higher.
    I found this recommendation in this Toshiba doc;
[Intermittent hang up or freeze of your machine (with possible high rotation FAN) under Windows 7 - 32 Bit / 64 Bit|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB0C032L0000R01.htm]
Additionally you should check if your BIOS is up to date.
In case new version is available, try the update.
    Good luck

  • Recovery original WindowsXP after installing Windows7 in Tecra A11

I want to make a multiboot system in my Tecra A11, with Windows Xp and Windows7, because I need XP to run an aplication incompatible with W7. The problem is that I format the HD to install the 64bit W7 with the recovery media (that came with the note) to explore the full capacity of the system memory. How can I get the XP instalation files originally installed in the note and make a dual boot with W7? Thank you in advance

    Tell us all about it.
Which Tecra A11? Which part number? Which country? Which Windows 7?
Do you have the Windows XP recovery discs?
Are you prepared to pay for a second activation key?
Can you enable hardware virtualization? If so, XP Mode is probably your best bet.

  • Tecra A11-1EJ - more detailed specs help

Tecra A11-1EJ, might be my next notebook. but as an audio pro related hardware compatibility i need info. which USB controller is installed (example intel ICH10)?
This info is essential for time critical low latency audio hardware connected.

thanx doc, but the same pdf I have.
NAME of the controller? CODE? An example: dell precision, nice design, rough pc, has it all. inside it`s all chinese chipsets, a pc worth 400eur. sold for 2500eur. not bad. but low latency audio forget on chinese chipsets. right now my Satellite P200-1BA still goes and on all texas instruments chipsets, any audio hardware works like on a desktop, no wonder why. Good job toshiba here!
But the problem is here, I am a customer that do not mind paying 200+eur, but give me the best, I need less than 4ms latency here! I need a workstation, and I do not mean design, I meand brand chipsets, best hardware. Without this we have no performance guys.
